Chapter 7: Don't Give Up
'Max, Justin, and Harper, all made it up to Alex's room in a hurry. What's going on? Justin asks his parents. I don't know Alex locked herself in her room and I'm hearing strange noises coming from in there. 'Banging on door' Alex! Are you OK? Here step back "NO LOCK OR CHAIN CAN HOLD ME DOWN BLAST THIS DOOR STRAIGHT TO THE GROUND" Oh My God Alex.
Oh, No! 'Max go to your room, Harper says to the youngest Russo' OK! 'Max nods his head in agreement' it was the most horrific sight any of them had ever seen; Alex laying in a pool of her own blood dying. Everyone was in shock, Justin not wanting to lose his little sister, took off his shirt ripped it in half and covered Alex's wrist to stop the bleeding. 'The way Alex cut herself she managed to cut into an artery and was bleeding out too fast. Justin picked Alex up and carried her down to the Lair.
Justin set Alex in their Dad's chair put the recliner up and started looking for something to save his sisters life. Stumbling around in his bloody t-shirt looking for something anything a potion a spell anything.
'Justin breathing heavy' Dad help... help me look- Yeah of course. Anything? 'Justin asks is father' nothing you? Maybe come look at this this is a "Healing Paste" we have everything we need to make it. Here stand back! "MY SISTER DYING IS NOT AN OPTION TURN THESE INGREDIENTS IN TO A HEALING CONCOCTION" Alright rub it on her wrist and it should work.
Please work! OK that's all of it! Is... isn't something supposed to be happening? Dad? I... I don't know I've never used this before. Is... is not working, Dad Its not working what do we do? I Don't Know? She... she isn't breathing, No, no, no, no, no this can't... I... I can't. 'Justin collapses to the ground with his hand covering his eyes; his breath trembling, sniffing trying his hardest not to cry.
'Alex takes a breath' Justin look! Pl... please Dad j... just stop. No Justin look- She... she's breathing it worked! 'A smile meets Justin's face, soon met by laughter, I can't, I can't believe it! She's alive! 'A universe of relief comes over Justin, and Jerry' while Jerry goes upstairs to tell everyone that Alex is OK, well for the most part Justin stays and looks after Alex just like at the hospital.
'Alex is out for a long time; everyone comes in and out for a visit, Theresa, Jerry, Harper, even Max, Alex eventually wakes up and sees Justin sitting next to her just like in the hospital. Déjà vu. Huh? Déjà vu- Alex hey, how are you? Oh, you know! That's not funny! Alex what were you thinking?! Oh, no please I don't want the lecture right now. Well too bad you're getting it.
Alex what you did was one of the most, Stupid! Reckless! Dangerous! Selfish! Stupid! You already said that- things you have ever done. How could you do something like this?! It wasn't that hard- Seriously?! Do you not care about how your actions affect others around you? You were going to leave Mom and Dad heartbroken; you were going to leave your best friend behind; you were going to leave Max without an older sister, you were going to leave me.
You were going to leave me Alex, what am I supposed to do with that?! I don't know? I just don't know; but one thing you are right about is that I've stopped caring. I just can't care; I don't have it in me anymore- Oh, Alex- come on let's go back upstairs. Even though you're going to face the wrath of Mom and Dad? Yeah, honestly its Harper's wrath that I have to worry about.
'Alex and Justin come up the stairs covered in blood. Alex expecting to get an earful from her parents prepares herself; Alex's mother starts walking towards her like she is about to kill her. Mom... I 'Before Alex can finish her Mom hugs her so tight that she stops thinking about the pain. Mom you're not mad? I'm too happy that you are alive and standing in front of me too be mad.
Just please never do that again! My heart can't take losing you; any of you- OK Mom. Harper I'm sorry; I would hug you but I have blood all over me! I was never mad at you Alex I'm just glad you're okay. And Justin I'm sorry to you too- Alex you don't have to apologize to me I'm just happy you're okay.
Come on let's go get that blood washed off of you! 'Harper says to Alex' that would be nice! 'Alex and Harper go up to Alex's room.' 'After Alex is done in the shower she walks into her room and Harper helps Alex get dressed.
I'm happy Harper is here to help; unlike my Mom I don't mind Harper seeing me naked we're best friends we've both seen each other naked before; with my Mom it's just weird. 'Harper Gasps' Oh, Alex! That's right this is the first time harper has seen my body at all after what happened "That Night" Oh, Alex this is horrible! I didn't know it was this bad I'm so sorry. Its OK Harper it's not your fault at all; and you shouldn't blame yourself either, come on let's go.
2 Weeks Later...
'Yay school had started back up again; and guess where I was. Ugh I don't want to be here! Alex come on its not that bad- everyone is staring at me because I still have this stupid cast on "Though there is one good part about school!" Hey Dean! Hey Russo, Finkle- Dean- hey so uh what happened to you? She was in an accident over the summer and broke her arm; any other questions? Nah I'll see you around.
'It's been 3 weeks since that night, It still haunts me. I'm relatively OK now except for when someone asks about what happened to me, I clam up; luckily I have Harper. Hey Russo! Hey Dean! Look now that I have a minute alone with you there's something I got to tell you- what is it? We have to break up.
What? What do you mean why! I'm moving away? Far- Far, were? Sorry Russo got to bounce- Dean wait... 'So, after that bombshell it was a little later in the day 5th period. 'Alex runs straight past Harper into the girl's bathroom and locks herself in a stall; Harper can hear Alex sobbing in the hallway. Alex! Alex come out, talk to me! Hey Harper what's going on? I don't know Alex just ran into the bathroom crying- what? Alex hey it's Justin, come out and talk to us please! 'I'm going to go in and check on her, Harper tells Justin. 'Alex's cry's fill the bathroom' Alex its Harper, why don't you come out and we can talk.
G... go... go... away- Alex don't bottle this up; you promised that you would talk to me about this stuff, remember. D... dean... he... he... was kissing another... girl. Oh, hon I'm sorry; look I don't know much about relationships but something I do know is you don't have to go through it alone. 'Alex unlocks the stall door, Alex's face is red, redder than Harper has ever seen it before, come here 'Harper hugs Alex and leaves the bathroom with her arm wrapped around her best friend.'
