It had been a few hours since he had given Caroline some of his blood. It appeared that she would soon be waking up, well he assumed that's what her tosses, turns, and sighs meant.

About an hour passed before she was awake enough to understand what he was saying.

"Care, how are you? Do you feel alright?" he asked carefully.

"Who are you?" Caroline asked him with a vaguely European accent.

"I'm guessing my blood didn't work, then. Some weird hallucinations."

"Hallucinations? What are you talking about?"

"You got a werewolf bite."

"Sure I did," she dismissed. "Where are we? And could you tell me the year, I- I just couldn't be sure."

"It's 2010. In Mystic Falls."

"That dreadful town? What does everything eventually bring me back there?

"How long have you been a vampire?" he assumed that this was some fantasy of Caroline's, being an experienced vampire in the future.

"One-thousand and nine years, give or take a few months. So, if I'm in Mystic Falls, who else is? Anyone I might know?"

"You really don't remember me?" Surely, her ideal world wouldn't be one that she didn't remember.

"I'm sorry." Caroline did seem apologetic. She truly didn't recognize him. How could Caroline forget about him?

"I'll take you to Klaus, he'll stop the hallucinations."

"You know Klaus?" He couldn't quite figure out if she was hopeful or doubtful.

"I thought every supernatural being was supposed to box before the Original Hybrid every time he was mentioned."

"He would love that you called him that, but he would hate you. You know him, he does hate you."

"Thanks, so much Caroline," deadpan clear in his voice.

"Well, are you taking me to him or not?" Caroline asked him, her smile betraying her knowledge of his suffering when he eventually would go to Klaus.

"I'll take myself if you could point me in the right-" she was unable to finish her sentence before falling to the ground unconscious.

"Well at least you won't torment me on the way there," he muttered under his breath.

November 1998

"My name is Caroline Forbes, my mom is the Sheriff, and I just turned six."

"Thank you, Caroline. Everyone, make sure to welcome our new student," her new teacher told the class. She returned to her seat in the front of the class.

"If your mom is the Sheriff, why didn't you come here before?" one of the kids beside her asked. She later learned his name was Matt.

"My dad used to be able to take me to a school further away, but he works further away now. So my mom drops me off here before going to work."

"Really? Where does your dad work?"

"He was transferred to Richmond."

"Cool."

"Where does your dad work?"

"He's um- he left."

"Moms are the best, aren't they? I mean, mine drops me off at school every day!" she tried to cheer up her first friend at Mystic Falls Elementary.

"Moms are great," he seemed relieved, yet honest.

"I like you," she stated.

"Wanna be best friends?" he asked her.

"Really? I've never had a best friend before."

"I have."

"What were they like?"

"He was awesome, but when my dad left he just stopped hanging out with me. Now, he says he's best friends with Jeremy Gilbert, the four-year-old. I'm five."

"That's so mean. I won't do that. I promise."

"I promise too."

2000

"So, I brought a bunch of toys for us to play with." She dumped one of those reusable grocery bags that her dad had bought a few times onto Elena's bed.

"I pick this one, it's the cutest," Elena claimed.

"That is not the cutest, this one is," Bonnie claimed while taking the doll to play with.

Caroline chose from the remaining dolls, she liked all of them as she had picked them out.

"My parents just got me this amazing dollhouse for us to play with!" Elena enthused.

"Ruby goes around the house and finds a beautiful pet dragon."

"Caroline! There are no dragons in this game," Elena explained.

"How would someone have a pet dragon?" Bonnie asked.

"Ruby goes up the stairs and finds Emerald with Laurence," Elena explained the actions of Caroline's doll toward Bonnie's.

"Ruby runs down the stairs and finds Diamond. 'You won't believe what Emerald is doing!'"

"'What?'" Elena as Diamond asks.

"This game is getting boring," Bonnie complained. "I've sat here for ten minutes while you two argued."

"Let's play a new game! How about would you rather?" Elena suggested.

"Okay," Bonnie and Caroline agreed.

2010

"Are you finally conscious?" he asked Caroline who was muttering in her sleep. He couldn't quite tell if they were nightmares, but regardless he hadn't been able to wake her up.

"I think so," Caroline responded drowsily. "Where are we?"

"About 30 yards from Klaus's house."

"Well, are we going in?"

"I thought you should be awake. What were you dreaming about?" he wanted to know if they were nightmares or not.

"I was remembering meeting Matt, playing dolls with Bonnie and Elena."

"Ah, the good old days."

"Yes, when you were the annoying hothead I have carrying me today."

"I could drop you, you know."

"I'd kick your hybrid ass."

"I wouldn't be so sure." It seemed like the conversations they used to have, back before their mess of a 'relationship.' "I'm really glad we're friends, Caroline."

"The headache is starting to get bad again. You should take me in to see Klaus."

"Right, sorry."

"I'm really glad we're friends too." He honestly wasn't sure how she got all of that out before passing out again, but she had. He really needed to get her to Klaus.
