Synopsis: Justice and revenge, what exactly is the difference? Two ideals so closely overlapped with one another who can really tell them apart as what separates them is one very thin gray line of morality.
For hope has not been completely extinguished as Yuki had not given up her search. But when she finds the one responsible will she punish them in the name of justice or revenge?
Justice
Standing on the deck of a small boat Yuki enjoyed the salty night air of the ocean. At least she would have loved too if not for what was about to happen.
For weeks she had been climbing up the food chain interrogating numerous people concerning the location of the diclonius that were taken. As she was racing against the clock she didn't have time for nice and easy as she needed credible information. Thus phasing her vectors into their heads she pressed against certain regions of their brain making them life like zombies forcing them to do do as she wished. However after she was done with them they would suffer from permanent brain damage as there was nothing she could do about it.
Of course she could have done the same to the guards at the interment site. But at the time she was far too angry to make it easy for them.
Not that it mattered to her as these humans saw them as less then people. But with the string of broken humans she left behind she needed to work fast as there was no doubt someone was catching on to her actions. As such as she got higher her targets were more well guarded making it difficult to approach.
But with the current world as it is she needed to gain a few skills of her own. Some of which were military tactics, knifes, and marksmanship. As she learned the hard way in her younger years she couldn't depend on her powers all the time. Thus why she got some training from uncle Bando, an old family friend of her parents.
With a few well placed traps and shots she had isolated her target as she got to work taking what she needed from them. From this target, she got what she needed. On an undisclosed island a couple of miles from the coast of Japan was a detention facility where captured diclonius were kept to be experimented on. It was there where her grandson had to have been.
Though she would have wanted to gather more information about the facility she needed to act immediately. With the man she interrogated there was no doubt that the enemy would be on high alert the moment they learned he was compromised.
So gathering as much equipment as she could on such short notice she jumped on a boat as here she was now.
Learning caution from experience the boat was purely propelled by her vectors while moving at moderate speed. As that same time she had some of her psychic limbs feeling he waters ahead to make sure there weren't any mines. Now within range she saw the facility ahead as she scoped it out with binoculars. Sitting back down she went over one last equipment check as there was no telling what was going to happen. For all she knew this might be her final resting place.
Going over her final weapons check and counting her ammunition, "I won't allow you to go alone".
Yuki could only sigh as a woman identical to herself was sitting right across from her. Though they still had a few differences between them such as facial features and hair styles. But putting it bluntly she was her twin sister Nyu. Just as bluntly she wanted to leave her out of this. But in order to get everything together as quickly as possible she needed help. Frankly she was the only one who could at such short notice. "No, the moment I depart I want you to take the boat and leave. I'll find another ship to escape from".
Nyu shook her head furiously at this. "I refuse! I won't let oneesan go alone!"
The elder diclonius couldn't help but scoff. She still referred to her so cutely considering how old they were. However she really didn't want Nyu to come. Like herself, her sister also helped find lost diclonius and guide them to the promised land. But for her sake, she never let her stare into the void. Never once did she allow Nyu to kill as she would personally take that burden upon herself only sending her to places with low risk. Though she herself had killed many along the way, it was something she would never get used too nor ever wanted too.
Seeing her sister about to refuse, "you know I can't walk away from this either. Kohta is my family too. You have already shouldered so much on your own".
"I can't . . . . Not this time because where I'm going . . . . There is a good chance I won't be making it back".
"I know" Nyu smiled solemnly. "But if we go together I know we can do it". Taking Yuki's hand into her own, "we've always been strong when we're together. If oneesan is my sword then I will her shield".
The elder diclonius could only sigh seeing the adamant determination in her sister's eyes. "I just can't win an argument with you".
"Not since we were kids" Nyu chuckled softly.
Both closing their eyes they aligned their senses syncing up their actions. Taking this moment of silence Yuki started to recite her mantra. "Close your eyes to their pain. Close your heart to their suffering. Only focus on the path that lies ahead". Taking one last look at her sister, "what you are about to see there . . . . I pray you understand what you're about to walk into . . . ."
Nyu could only nod. She understood she was about to walk right into the mouth of hell with how many of her people were suffering here. It was something humans would never understand and why some diclonius looked down on them for it. Due to their telepathy there was no such thing as hate or discrimination amongst them regardless of their ideals, beliefs, identity, or orientation. Some may not agree with them. However there was always mutual understanding among them all.
Disembarking as they quietly entered the island, the first thing they needed to do was gather information on the area. Going in guns blazing was an absolute last resort or at least the final step of the plan. There was only two of them so they had to fight this smart as they needed every advantage they can take. Considering how well kept of a secret this place was they probably didn't expect an attack from the outside. Though it was likely they were prepared for one.
More so this was a considerable gamble on their part. However they couldn't afford to postpone any longer as this was an all or nothing venture. If they were discovered any chance of a future rescue attempt would be impossible. Of course Yuki knew she as being reckless running in without any real preparation. But if it gives Kohta even just the smallest percentage of survival then she had to take it.
After a quick survey she found her in. Finding two fully armed and equipped guards from head to toe the elder diclonius disabled them as she stuck her vectors into their heads extracting all the basic information she would need such as names, locations, and time tables. Now basically brain dead Yuki and Nyu got to work taking their cloths and equipment as they instantly blended in. With the guards security card it gave them a good deal of access around most of the general area. But for more sensitive places they were going to need a hand in entering there.
"We'll need to cut the power to the entire facility. More then likely they will have an auxiliary power supply which we will need to take out too". As Yuki went over a map she started tracing out their route. Though it would have been ideal to split up to cover more ground and save time they couldn't be careless.
"Will everyone inside be able to use their vectors when the power goes out?"
"No, the collars are self sufficient and run on a separate server in the event of a power outage. So we will need to disable them. But if we want to have a fighting chance we need to take out their power first".
So moving together it was easy enough to find the main generator as they had set some explosives. But for the backups they had three of them. It was a bit overcautious yet understandable as this prison held some of the most powerful people in the world. But they had to move faster as their actions were arousing suspicion. Moving at a quickened pace they had set their charges at two of the three sites.
But coming up on a damaged hallway, Yuki and Nyu couldn't help but stop to look as they were curious what had happened.
"Hell of a scare it gave us" as the twins looked back to see a scientist walking by trying to start some small talk.
Not to seem suspicious Yuki just played along. "Yeah" as she looked around to get a general idea what had happened. "It was one hell of a mess they gave for us".
"It sure was. Bunch of dumb animals" the scientist chuckled.
Yuki cringed a bit. She had heard many kinds of insults and discrimination's ever since she could understand. But she couldn't help but get a little irritated when they were referred too as less then human.
"But it sure was a close one. There have been a few escape attempts before but never on this scale with a mass breakout. Luckily they were too stupid to realize they were walking right into a trap" the scientist laughed again. "At least some of them were smart enough to know where they stood. But for the rest well . . . . They got what was coming to them".
In that moment Yuki's anger flared. For this bastard to laugh at the fact at killing innocent people and think nothing of it. Kohta would have been part of the escape attempt. If he was killed . . . . There would be no way she would be able to stomach her outrage. Her blinding anger as she would kill every single human here without remorse or regret. Even after ripping this island in half it still wouldn't be enough to settle her rage. Starting to lose control her vectors started to appear. However they were grabbed knocking her back to her senses.
"Please calm yourself oneesan . . . ." Nyu thought out as she tried to soothe her sister. However she too was quite angry. But for Yuki sake she needed to be her emotional anchor.
Taking a deep breath the elder diclonius buried her feeling as she smirked. "Well it's a good thing it was contained".
Parting ways Yuki and Nyu found charted a course to the final auxiliary back up.
But as with life or any well laid plan, you just can't anticipate everything.
"Stop right there!" as a small group of security personnel called them.
"Is something the matter?" Yuki asked.
"Where were you going just now?'
"Just making our rounds as usual. Is there a problem?"
In response, the lead security man ripped the ID off Yuki's uniform as he studied it. Narrowing his eyes, "then can you tell me what you were doing at the power stations?"
"Pardon?" as Yuki tried to be casual.
"You trying to play dumb with me?!" as the guard was growing irritated. "Your ID has been flagged going in and out of the power stations. So I'll ask again" as he then pulled out his gun to his side while the rest of the group gripped their rifles more tightly. "What were you doing in those areas?"
Remaining silent Yuki had nothing more to say. She could continue talking. But she already knew that there was no way she could talk her way out of this. Even if she could lower their wariness they would be detained for more questioning. If that happened their identities would inevitably be discovered. Giving a deep sigh there was no other choice.
"So what do you have to say?"
Answering as such Yuki wrapped her vectors around her body as she stepped in delivering a swift uppercut to the man's jaw lifting him several inches off the ground before falling back. With the surrounding guards stunned Yuki didn't waste even a breath. Taking the first two closest guards in front she threw a straight punch while using her momentum to kick the other. Quickly following through she delivered a back fist to the next guard while push kicking another. But for the final guard in the back he was just getting into position aiming his rifle ready to fire. In that split moment decision Yuki grabbed one of the guards gun and threw it at him. Stunned once more the elder diclonius closed the distance between them as she kicked out his front leg. With his loss of balance Yuki grabbed his head kneeing him right in the face.
At the moment the group was finished the sounds of alarms could be heard as the normal lights shifted to blaring red. "We're out of time" said Yuki as she looked around. "I guess there aren't any more reasons to play this quietly anymore" as she discarded her helmet and goggles. "Really hoped to set the last charge before getting noticed".
"Nothing we can do about it now" said Nyu also discarded her helmet and goggles.
Soon enough the pair felt a buzzing sensation which they were all too familiar with. "Looks like they just deployed the vector canceler field. Are we still good on communication?"
"Yes" Nyu nodded.
Pulling out two hand guns Yuki gave her extra to her. "We're close to the last generator. Lets move".
Running down the hall the pair let nothing get in their way. Like her sister, Nyu was quite a marksman probably even better then Yuki. However she only went for non-lethal shots going for arms, legs, or shoulders. As the guards started appearing in front of them none of them were able to get a shot off before going down.
"I got the right covered".
"I got left then".
Their accuracy and hand coordination were top notch as they only needed one bullet per a target. With their minds working together processing and analyzing the situation, they were unmatched. Their firing and reloading was a smooth technique not even needing to second guess how many bullets they had left.
"They are moving in to pincer us".
"That won't work so easily".
Yuki then took lead as Nyu went back to back as they continued to move. Fighting down the hall, who could believe a gun fight could be so elegant. Yuki and Nyu moved as one adjusting their stance and footwork switching between their positions as they entrusted their lives to each other. It was like a beautifully choreographed duet as nothing stopped them from reaching their destination.
Even when low on ammo, Yuki had tossed her gun up as Nyu caught it at the split moment of their transition as she dual wielded them. Sweeping by a down guard, the elder diclonius kicked up his rifle followed up by another not stopping for even a moment. With both her guns empty Yuki was ready as she tossed her extra back as her sister threw her handguns aside catching the rifle.
Fighting their way to last auxiliary power station they had managed to find their way inside.
"I'll hold the door" thought out Yuki. "Go set the charges".
"Alright!" Wasting no time Nyu had set the last charge. "It's in place. Get to cover now!" In four big explosion that shook the entire facility everything had fallen into place. For all of their technology and weapons that were designed to fight diclonius, it was useless without electricity. Even for their more portable tools it wasn't like diclonius were just going to sit on their hands and not figure out how to counter them.
"We're back in business" Yuki smirked as she had called out her vectors. Taking the looted rifles from the guards the firearms all floated around her. With her sharp focus she could use them all simultaneously to aim and shoot in any direction she wanted. This particular skill also allowed her to switch out weapons quickly without any kind of time delay as she could keep fighting without stopping. "Are you ready" as she looked to her sister.
Nyu was busy tearing out metal from the room as she smashed them together. Tightly compressing them with her powers they became incredibly dense sheets of metal. When it came to bullets and guns in general, most diclonius were able to defend against small calibers. But with the advancement of human weapons or heavy type guns in general, vectors alone couldn't stop something that powerful. Thus an older technology was put back into service in the form of shields with durability greater then tank armor when reinforced by their psychic appendages. Though in may seem impractical, but when in the hands of a skilled diclonius they became a walking fortress. With several of these one foot width and length sheets cleanly processed they began floating up at Nyu's command. "I'm ready".
Moving the squares in different positions, Nyu formed a wall in front of them. Linked with Yuki, she adjusted what squares would open and close allowing them to fight effectively.
"We need to get to the warden. His security access should be able to override any protective measures in the system".
"Let's hurry then!"
Fighting their way through several floors trying to locate the man in charge it seemed their actions were anticipated as enemy numbers were increasing along their path. But it didn't really change how they were handled. As Nyu protected them Yuki easily pilfered more ammunition from the security personnel she shot down. But that's when the more troublesome enemy appeared as a mech suit was waiting for them right down the hall.
Recognizing the imminent danger the elder diclonius fired all her rifles at once only for the bullets to cause minimal damage against the suits armor.
Seeing the electrical glow of it's weapon, it was about to fire it's rail gun. "Watch out!" Nyu cried out as she formed the protective wall in front of them. Fired from it's magnetic launcher Nyu couldn't stopped that cannon like shell as her shield was destroyed from that one hit. But it slowed it down just enough for them to get to cover.
But as noted before diclonius were not helpless before such weapons. Though it couldn't be attacked by vectors directly there were plenty of other methods in attacking it.
As Yuki laid down cover fire getting the enemies attention Nyu started gathering the pieces of her damaged shield reforming it into a large dense spike. Taking aim she took out the mechs weapon. Once Yuki was close enough she collapsed the ceiling right on top it knocking it down. With it toppled she didn't care for it to get back up again as she concentrated all the rifles shots at one point till it penetrated the cockpit killing the pilot.
Fighting their way through they eventually caught up with the warden trying to escape in a panic. Tearing through his guards she got that bastard right where she wanted him as Nyu walled them off giving them some privacy.
"Do you think you'll be able to make me talk so easily?! I . . . . "
". . . . I don't have time for this" as Yuki didn't care for pointless bravado. Sticking her vectors into his head she was rougher then usual as the warden felt like his head was being torn in half. Not that she cared as humans like this had harmed diclonius for just simply being a diclonius as he had plenty of innocent blood on his hands. As easily as she could have torn him in half, he had information she needed. After struggling in excruciating pain for a couple of seconds as tears, snot, and drool ran down his face, he then became solemn as his eyes lost any form of life to them. "Now answer my questions carefully and tell me what I need to know".
Without any resistance, the warden spilled everything he knew.
Relinquishing his security pass the sisters had all they needed. Getting to the closest terminal that's when the final curtains had been raised. Of course after their recent failed jail break many of the captured diclonius were skeptical of this being another trap. But with the lure of freedom dangling in front of them anything was better then dying a pointless death. Soon enough small bouts throughout the facility had turned into full on riots as the security could not contain them as they were unprepared this time.
As Yuki and Nyu felt the turmoil of emotions flaring within the telepathic network the former kept them focused on their task. Gaining access to the registry logs, "Kohta!" Yuki cried out overjoyed to learn her grandson was still alive. But for his condition she would have to see for herself. Going directly there ignoring the battles happening all around the elder diclonius followed the GPS of Kohta's tracking collar.
Finally seeing her grandson for the first time all she could see was red as he was strapped to a surgical table with the people inside still trying to figure what was happening outside. Tearing open a wall leading into the room, Yuki threw them all aside as she quickly checked on Kohta's condition. ". . . . Thank goodness" as she felt her eyes moist as he was still alive however traumatized from his ordeal here. But that was something she could fix later as she needed to get him out of here first.
But noticing movement at the corner of her eye, she saw one of the surgeons trying to sneak away. Though before he could get far Yuki had severed off both his legs as the man soon squealed in pain.
Now trying to crawl away leaving a bloody smear behind, the surgeon flailed his arms while shedding tears begging for mercy. "Please . . . . " he stuttered. "I was just doing a job".
However his pleas fell on deaf ears. Yuki was well aware of who this man was from the memories of those here. The cruelty and torture he had subjected to innocent people for experimentation or profit.
But now here at this very moment she had to make a choice as it was moments like these that defined you. At this moment karma was being paid out in full as the diclonius were killing every human they came across. For Yuki she could feel their anger as she perfectly understood it. However it was now a question of morality. Though the humans here had done terrible things to them what real purpose would it do for them to return the favor aside self-satisfaction?
It wouldn't bring back their loved ones nor the life they stole from them.
As her mother and father had taught her and Nyu, the righteous path was a difficult one to take. But it was one where you could live proudly with your head held up high.
As she contemplated her decision as the surgeon continued to plea for his life, Yuki made her decision.
"Oneesan . . . ." as Nyu could only look sadly to what was about to happen.
Dragging the human down the hall, Yuki sent out a message to all nearby diclonius as she came upon a hall where quite a few of them had gathered as each of them radiated intense killing intent. Though she was a healer first and a warrior second, she had no more kindness or mercy left to give even for a defenseless villain like this man.
"Wait! Please no! I can change! I can make amends! I can . . . . !"
"I don't care" Yuki stated coldly as she looked at the surgeon with soulless eyes. "When you do enough bad things in life it will catch up with you eventually". Closing her eyes allowing the weight of her decision to settle in, "balance is justice" she slowly spoke out. "You stole their lives and left them to die. It's only fair that you receive those same odds".
"W . . . . Wait! I . . . . I can . . . ."
"Say what you will" Yuki interjected not caring to listen to anymore pleas. "For here . . . . I leave your life to fate" as she tossed him down the hall to a bunch of blood thirsty diclonius. Turning her back to leave she didn't care to see what happened next. For a moment the hall was filled with his screams followed by gurgling as soon the sounds of crunching, tearing, and splashing could be heard.
She respected the ideals of her parents and her sister in trying to be gentle in this harsh world. However mercy and understanding was for a much more kinder and saner world. As cold as her decision was, this was her justice.
To be continued . . . .
Author's notes: Hope this chapter was good and here is some commentary.
It only makes sense that diclonius would develop techniques and strategies to combat the current methods that are employed against them. Though with the telepathic network they could easily out tech humans rather quickly. But doing so would be a show of aggression which a good deal of them were trying to avoid. However things are going to be different now.
Considering the connections Kohta and Kaede had I decided to keep Bando as a family friend to them who helped train Yuki and Nyu in combat techniques and military tactics. With the growing threat of humans they needed to be ready to face them.
Now if there are any questions or concerns feel free to ask as I'll try to answer them.
So thank you for reading as I further extend my gratitude if you can review as well.
