Chapter 15: First Day!

'Alex sits down at her new desk not really knowing what to do quite yet, but she'll figure it out soon enough. Right now, the only thing on her mind is Rosie, Alex has never been away from her for this long before.

Hey Rosie are you okay? What? Yeah, I'm okay, just thinking— About your mom? Yes, how did you know? Because I'm thinking about mine too, it's just how it is.

Hey its lunch time, why don't you sit with me. Yeah, that would be awesome- so what table do we sit at? Whichever one we can find.

Are you not going to get food? No, mama has to make me special food. Why? Because if I eat normal food, I get sick and have to go see the doctor. Oh, you have a food allergy. My Aunt has one, but me and my sisters aren't allergic to anything.

So, what do you like to do Rosie? I like drawing, and reading, I like music, and painting too, sometimes me and mommy paint together. That's cool— Yeah, and mommy hangs up my pictures! What about you Bonnie? Oh, I don't do anything too special, mostly just play with spells.

Spells? Are you a Wizard? What no, there are no such thing as wizards. Yes, there are! My mommy is a wizard. Your mom is a wizard? Yeah, and my uncle's too! Your whole family are wizards? Not everyone, grandpa and grandma aren't wizards.

Cool I'm a wizard too, so is my mom, and my sisters, and my dad too. Wow cool! I can only do basic spells until I get my wand. Can you show me? Sure, watch this. 'Bonnie's hand glows and she uses a spell to make the spoons on the table float. Whoa! That was awesome! I can't wait until I'm a wizard.

How old are you? Bonnie asks— I'm six, but I turn seven soon. I'm seven already, I got my powers early, mom says it makes me special. 'The girls talk for the rest of lunch and get a lot closer.

Hey you're Alex, right? Um yeah— I'm Danny, nice to meet you. You too, so about the boss what's her deal? Don't worry she's like that with everyone. She's already gone through four assistants— Four?! Yeah 2 quit and the other 2 where fired, yeah, it's certainly been... interesting around here— Yeah, no kidding.

Alex works hard and is pretty burned out. Alex finishes up the last of her work and heads out to pick up Rosie from school.

It's the end of the school day and all the kids are waiting for their parents. Hey Rosie, where do you live? Maybe we can hang out sometime— That would be awesome! Maybe I could sow you some more spells too.

Hey I think your mom is here. Mommy! 'Rosie runs over to Alex and hugs her tight' Oof! Hey there— I missed you mommy. Aww, I missed you too, are you ready to go? Yes "Rosie looks back at Bonnie and waves, bonnie waves back and cracks a smile." So, how was your first day of school? It was so cool! Yeah, do you like your teachers? Yeah, their awesome! I'm glad you had a good day.

'Alex and Rosie get home and settle down; Alex sits down on the couch and watches tv while Rosalina plays. Oh, mommy guess what?! What? I met another wizard at school today. Wait, Rosalina come here, come sit on my lap. You met a wizard? Mm-hmm— Was it one of your teachers? No mama, it was my new friend bonnie.

Bonnie? Was that the girl you were sitting next to when I came in? 'Rosalina nods her head' so what about Bonnie's parents, did she tell you anything about them? Bonnie's parents are wizards too, and her sisters.

Hmm, maybe we should have Bonnie and her parents over sometime, what do you think? Yeah! Wow, you really like Bonnie huh? Uh-huh. Okay I think we can do that, how about this weekend? That would be awesome! All right.

'The Next Day at School.' Hey Bonnie— Oh, hey Rosie what's up? You should bring your parents over to my house this weekend. I told my mommy about you being a wizard and she wants to meet your parents. Yeah, I don't know Rosie, my parents can be a little... weird. You haven't met my family— Yikes you too huh? Yeah— OK I'll talk to my parents about it, they actually really want to meet you. Really?! Oh, come on you don't think you're the only one who tells her parents about interesting things.

'The rest of that week passes and it's finally time for the meet. You seem exited, you've been pacing around for 20 minutes. You look nervous, what's wrong? What if they don't like us? Don't like me. What do I do? Oh, sweetheart that's impossible, you are the most likable little girl I've ever met. They will love you. 'Knocking starts coming from the front door, Alex answers the door and invites Bonnie and her parents in.

Hi, come in I'm Alex, and this little one over here is my daughter Rosalina. Wow that is a very beautiful name—Thank you. It is very nice to meet you Rosalina, Bonnie has told us a lot about you. It's very nice to meet you too— Aww! You're such a sweet girl. Why don't you girls play while we all talk— Okay! Come on Bonnie, I'll show you, my room.

Seeing those girls get along so well is nice. I don't think we introduced ourselves, I'm Megan, but you can call me meg, and this is my husband, Mike. Well, it is very nice to meet you both— And you as well. So, Alex, tell us about yourself, what do you like to do.

Well, there's not much to tell, I grew up in New York, in this building actually. I have 2 brothers, Justin, and Max, I like art. I just started working actually— Oh, where at? At an Illustration company. We make pictures for, Newspapers, Magazines, Articles, etc. How about you guys? I actually have a very similar job as you Alex; I work from home as a designer, and Mike here runs a school.

You run a school, really? Oh, yes, I love children, it's a wizard school actually. A wizard school in the human world, isn't that dangerous? It can be but we make sure that we're careful. I started this school to help young wizards that live in the human world, to learn how to control their powers and become great wizards someday.

So, Alex, I don't mean to pry, but where is Rosalina's father? It's just that you seem a little young to be a mother. Um... It's— I'm sorry I shouldn't have brought it up, forget it. No, it's okay, I get that a lot actually.

People see me with Rosie and always say "Wow you look too young to be a mom!" But they don't know what's happened so I can't hold it against them. It's just not something I like to talk about. Alex, honey you don't have to tell us anything if you don't want to, the last thing we want is to make you uncomfortable.

It's all right, our daughters are best friends, and you guys should know. When I was fifteen, I uh... I was raped and that was the absolute worst time of my life, I was a mess; I couldn't eat or sleep, my mind was shattered, and I even tried to kill myself twice. But my family was there to help me get through.

Then I found out that I was pregnant and my world just fell apart. I didn't know what to do, I hated her, I thought my life was over, I couldn't handle it, but over time that hate slowly started to turn into love.

And then finally she was here, my little girl, and I looked into her eyes and what I saw wasn't a monster looking back, but this innocent little girl that had this light and at that point I was consumed with love, she had become my entire world, and I was happy. 'Without hesitation, Megan stands up and hugs Alex, and apologizes to her.

Thank you so much for trusting us with this, we promise this is our secret. And if you and Rosalina ever need anything, just ask. Thank you, but you don't have to do that. 'After a few hours both the girls were asleep and Bonnie and her parents take off. Alex puts Rosie to bed and hangs out on the couch until its late.

'Another year passes and Alex and Rosie are full settled into their apartment. It's a free day for both of the girls, so, Alex decides to take Rosie out for the day, 'but Alex is having some car troubles. Ugh this stupid car! Is everything okay mama? Yeah, honey everything is fine I just need to go and get the car looked at.

Alex drives around and finds a mechanic shop right next to a park, and decides to check it out. Do you want to go play at the park? Yeah! Okay, hey come here, you make sure you stay where I can see you okay? Okay— And don't talk to strangers, okay? And if you see anything strange you run straight over to me understood. Yes mama— Okay go have fun baby.

Alex takes her car into the shop and is in awe of who she finds. Boys get over here we have a customer, hello my name is— Dean? Alex, is that you? Oh my god, Dean. 'Alex hugs dean happy to see him again' how long's it been Russo, what 7 years? Yeah, wow it's so good to see you again, you look great! Yeah, you too.

You know, I never thought I'd see you again. Me neither, look Alex, about what happened back then I— Dean forget it was so many years ago. Nah I can't, I never forgave myself for hurting you like that; I was moving away and I had to do something, because you were the only one that could make me stay, I'm so sorry Alex.

It's okay, to be honest I was in a really bad place back then and my head was pretty messed up. You, OK? You haven't taken your eyes off that park. Uh yeah... yeah, I'm good I'm just keeping an eye on my daughter. Daughter? Wow uh congrats, so who's the lucky guy? Uh no one, actually.

You remember when I said I was pretty messed up back then? Well, uh... something happened and... yeah— What happened, If I may ask. 'Alex explains what happened to Dean, and why she was so distant.'

I'm so sorry Alex, I had no idea. It's okay, there's no way you could have known, honestly, even after all these years it still haunts me, but I've also moved forward.

So, your girl is— Yeah, but I love her to death, I would sacrifice anything for her. Well, we're gonna be workin' on the car for a little while. Why don't you go have fun with that girl of yours. Thank you, Dean. 'Alex goes over to the park and plays with Rosie, pushing her on the swings and rolling around in the grass.

Once Alex's car was done, her and Rosie continued the rest of their day, going shopping, and going out to the movies. The girls got home late, and Rosalina was still so full of energy when she got home. So, Alex chased her around the house and got her tired enough to put her to bed finally, and did the same herself.
