Chapter 1: Cold Night at the Circus

Dream…

I am Road Kamelot, and I was pulsing in pain.

My skin slowly turned tan, veins bulging as the Noah within me took over.

It was like being branded across my entire body, my flesh feeling like it was peeling off as multiple crosses etched themselves across my forehead.

Searing migraines terrorized my brain as I screamed, eyes turning amber from their original dark color.

An intense anger flooded my heart, hatred towards humans, God, his damned 'Apostles', and the horrid Innocence.

"Well, well…" a voice said, drawing my attention.

It was a rotund, demonic looking creature, looking very cartoonish in his design of a top-hat wearing gentlemen with pumpkin umbrella.

"Who…" I started to demand, but I stopped as I recognized this person. "Earl Millennium."

"It is nice to see you again, Road." The Earl said as he extended his hand toward me. "Let's go, I have something magnificent to show you."

I took his hand, and once I stood, we are a board the Ark.

Before us was a boy crouched in a tank of glowing liquid, bubbles flowing upward.

"Earl Millennium, who is this?" I asked as I touched the tank.

"I took the ideas of the Humans, who wanted to do something horrendous called the Second Exorcist plan, something they have been trying to do for decades." The Earl stated. "While I admit it made me sick to use their ideas, I am quite happy with the result in this prototype."

"Is it an akuma?" I asked, knowing that akuma were never created this way. "He isn't human, is he?"

"No, no, my dear." The Earl stated with a wide arm gesture. "He is a servant to the Noah, a being that willingly summoned me without the loss of a loved one, and his name is…"

Dream End…

Road opened her eyes, having felt the train's shaking rouse her from her sleep.

She was in a small train compartment with a blanket having been draped over her.

'He didn't have to do that.' Road sighed as she turned to face her comrade.

He was short, even shorter than Road herself, and he had blonde hair, light tan skin, three whisker marks on his cheeks, and drool as he slept with his jacket draped over his body.

Road got up and put the blanket on him, now fully awake and not wanting him to be cold, revealing a furred cloak covering her arms and body, revealing her legs covered in striped leggings.

'You are such a worrywart, Naruto.' Road thought as she smiled before looking out the train window.

There was a massive circus tent on the outskirts of the city as they approached it.

Naruto mumbled in his sleep as he shifted, hand moving up as he rubbed his blue eyes.

"Morning, sleepyhead." Road said as she poked him, giggling at the annoyance.

"Lady Road…" Naruto whined as he got up, seeing the blanket was on him.

"Hurry up and wake up," Road stated as she walked to the compartment door. "We are near the city and we need to be able to keep an eye on Lord Millennium without fail."

Naruto groaned as he stood up as Road walked out into the hall to get to the exit.

He wore black pants and an orange button up shirt with a black vest. He had gloves on his hands.

'She didn't need to leave me behind.' Naruto thought as he put his overcoat back on and folded the blanket. He put it with his bag and pulled it onto his back before he left the compartment.

Naruto walked past humans, smiling as he did, but internally, he could not help but feel sad.

"Hurry up, Naruto!" Road called out, hands on her hips as she waited impatiently for him.

"Yes, Lady Road." Naruto replied as he picked up his pace and made it to his master just as the train pulled into the station.

Road and Naruto waited for the train to come to a complete stop, departing in the large crowd as they entered Eddystone, Britain.

"Let's go there!" Road said childishly as she grabbed Naruto's arm and led him towards the candy shop.

Naruto blushed at the contact with Road, moving in tandem with her so he wasn't dragged there.

They wandered around, looking for the Earl, and eventually stopping to look around in the square.

"Welcome!"

Naruto and Road turned their heads and saw members of the circus in the square, giving out flyers to the people.

"We are performing all the way up until Christmas." A Pierrot called as he had a small dog on his shoulder.

Road's eyes widened as her hand squeezed Naruto's hand.

'It's him.' She thought. 'Earl Millennium.'

She watched with Naruto before she turned and looked up, seeing an old face.

Said being looked down when he felt someone's eyes on him as he smoked, seeing Road and Naruto, before they vanished and reappeared at the edge of the stairs, Naruto a few steps lower than Road as he continued to watch the circus performers.

"Yo, Cross Marian." Road said as she leaned against the railing, one leg bent. "You haven't changed a single bit. I was able to recognize you easily. What is with the priest outfit?"

"…Right back at you, too." Cross said as he exhaled his cigarette smoke. "Who is he?"

Road proudly smiled.

"He is Naruto, my comrade." She said as she gestured toward him.

Naruto didn't show any emotions as he nodded towards Cross, showing his greeting without words.

Cross didn't bother as he continued to smoke.

"Still haven't lost faith in the Nea's words, even now?" Cross asked bluntly. "You're going to take Mana back, aren't you?"

"Wrong~, we are here just checking in on him." Road responded playfully, a childish smile on her face as she rolled her shoulders, before she had a sad look on her face with a sad smile. "What good would it do for us to bring him back now? We have to wait until he remembers and returns to being the Earl of Millennium before we approach him."

Cross didn't respond as he watched Mana Walker and his dog perform for the crowd, handing out flyers as he smiled happily.

"Don't you think it's pitiful? Seeing your master like this?" Cross asked as he glanced at Naruto, who saw this with his peripheral vision. "He is breaking to pieces. And it's you Noah's doing. You think so, don't you, kid?"

Naruto didn't respond.

It wasn't his place.

He wasn't a Noah.

"Pretending to be family, for thousands of years. You are just using him." Cross stated as he glanced down at Road, who fully glared back.

Road's eyes widened as Naruto felt a pulse of malice ripple through his master's body.

"The Pillar…" Cross continued. "That which Mana, The Millennium Earl, is Predicted to one day become."

The Noah Genes within Road clawed itself to the surface of her mind.

Road grasped her face, collapsing to her knees before Naruto caught her to keep her from falling down the stairs as she panted in pain, covering her face with her hands.

"Lady Road?" Naruto asked in concern.

She put her hand up and made a downward motion.

"Hm, simply the sound of that word can trigger your Noah Memory, huh?" Cross asked as he faced the two.

"Nah, I'm fine." Road shakily responded as she removed her hands from her face, sweat beading across her face a bit. "Go on, give me your best shot."

"Then I won't pull my punches." Cross stated. "You guys are taking revenge on something that doesn't even exist."

Road giggled.

"Wrong again~." She chuckled. "'The Pillar' did exist. We Noah have witnessed that."

"This world is not the one you guys were in." Cross said. "It doesn't have to meet the same fate. Don't get them mixed up."

Road laughed cheerfully at that statement as she leaned into Naruto's shoulder.

"Wish you said that seven thousand years earlier. Really." She laughed. "But anyway…"

Road's face became cold and fearful as she gripped her shoulders.

"We lost the place we could return to, forever." She stated coldly. "Nothing can erase that truth!"

The pupils in her eyes became reminiscent of a cross.

"People like you, who don't bare the Noah's Memories, would never know the despair…"

"Lady Road…" Naruto whimpered as he could feel her shake.

"One day, out of nowhere, that THING appeared…" Road continued. "And it was GONE! As if slicing through the sky and the earth, The Gigantic Pillar!"

Cross noticed Road's forehead having its Stigmata appear as her skin became tan.

"You haven't seen…" Road stated as she faced Cross, part of her face warping into that of a crazed, malicious, rage fueled being as her mouth extended to the corner of her cheek, her eye slanted as she grabbed her cloak in the center of her chest. "WHAT ITS LIKE WHEN THE WORLD ENDS, HAVE YOU~~?"

Cross's visible eye widened as he watched Road being fueled by the Noah's anger.

"I… how I loathe thee…" Road stated as she gripped her cloak. "All of you… who know not… of this… Agony!"

She stared him in the eyes.

"WHAT THE HELL WOULD YOU KNOW!" She shouted, lunging at Cross, but unable to move with Naruto holding her down.

Cross, in genuine concern, stepped toward the two.

"And since you guys know that agony, now it's your turn to end the world, it is…" He said as he didn't break eye contact. "Noah?"

"This world was created for that Purpose!" Road… the Noah within stated through Road.

"Tsk, guess it's pointless to reason with a depraved ghost from the long past, huh…" he stated before he crouched down to touch Road, only for Naruto to push away from him, roll down the stairs, protecting Road in his arms, his back hitting the ground at the bottom of the stairs.

"Lady Road," he whispered into her ear. "The Noah… it's taking hold. Focus on me, and come back…"

Road shook in his arms, her anger not stemming, but slowly she felt a tear slip from her left eye.

"Let's go home, together, Lady Road." Naruto begged Road as he held her close.

As his voice traveled through the air and into her ears, the Noah slowly released its grip on her, and faded back into her subconscious.

Slowly, her face returned to normal, and she was barely awake in his arms, eyes feeling very heavy from the strain the Noah Memory put on her body.

"So, is this YOUR power, kid?" Cross asked as he stared down at Naruto from atop the stairs, hand above his Innocence: Judgement.

Naruto glared in defiance at Cross.

"Naru… to…" Road whispered tiredly.

"Please, just sleep for now, Lady Road." Naruto stated softly as he stood up.

Road nodded and leaned into his embrace as she fell into a peaceful sleep.

"What was your name again, kid?" Cross demanded. "And what the hell are you?"

"Naruto, and I am the Soother." Naruto replied before his whisker marks thickened and his eyes became red with slit pupils, his nails becoming claws. "You better stay away, Cross Marion."

Cross didn't make any move at this threat, but silently watched as Naruto left, carrying Road into the crowd before he lost track of them.

"Fools, utter fools." Cross stated as he finished his smoke, seeing the circus performers and Mana with his dog preparing to leave for the day. "All of you…"

Eight Years Later, Rewind Town…

"So, this is where the Innocence is, Lady Road?" Naruto asked as he sat on Lero, the Umbrella of the Millenium Earl, while Road sat in his lap as the overlooked the city.

"Yes, Naruto. So, let's get started." Road said in excitement as she and Naruto floated to the ground, Lero being taken into Road's hand as they entered the strange town.

Chapter 1, DONE!

A new story, just this chapter for now, I want to focus on finishing Werefox and continuing Sage of Legend.

I hope I have tickled your interest with this chapter, as my GF, Boo1194, and I are big D. Gray Man fans, and I wanted to give it a shot.
