OMG I'm sorry for being so late! I have been busy and had a lot of thinking to do for this chapter!
So this chapter will be more Sylvie and Frigga-centric. Wanda and Stephen will be a little bit less for it. After all, this fic is about our two gods of mischief hehe.
I was having a hard time writing about Frigga and Sylvie's scene. It's harder than I thought. I didn't know how to make this scene more resonating, I rewrote a lot, at least almost a dozen times, to the point I got so frustrated. I wanted to make this chapter special between mother and daughter (in law), especially an orphaned daughter, and I don't want to mess it up.
I looked for clips and other inspirations from books and movies to pull this together, and I just can't seem to narrow it until I looked up for classic tales. Even they don't seem to fit but I had to improvise a lot of things. Besides, I think this is the first story ever to have a mom interact with a daughter she never had or supposedly a daughter from another universe. How do you even respond to that?
And how do you even help your son when you don't even know how? This is a very challenging chapter to pull through, I never thought I'd get this deep in this story. And I invested so much in emotions between characters that I actually got super stuck, especially with this scene.
But I think I was able to pull it through? Made a few improvements and additions. I hope this works!
That said, enjoy!
PS: There will be a post-credit scene here.
Sylvie found herself in a field full of tall grass, a meadow. It was warm and… colorful…somehow. The grass dancing and the field looked so lush, full of life. Something she had rarely seen since living in apocalyptic places tends to be dull and….well, less happy.
This place felt so warm as if all her burdens seemed to disappear. It felt so free, and joy just filled the atmosphere. Warm and welcoming. She felt so peaceful here, she'd love to stay here forever.
'Sylvie', a man's voice called her.
And her eyes snapped open.
Sylvie found herself lying on a bed, but it's not her bed. The sheets felt way softer and more comfortable, like a true king's bed.
And her surroundings…..it's not Loki's room, it looks way grander. Her eyes scanned the room, event the entire place looked so….royalty.
That's when it hit her, remembering what may have led her to this situation. But the point is, she fell asleep in Asgard's castle! Who brought her here? Where's Thor?
The Goddess of Mischief immediately sat up, wanting to spring away so that no one will notice her.
"Calm down, child. Or you'll hurt yourself again," a soft soothing voice said to her.
Sylvie was stunned by this person's voice, making her stop whatever she's about to do. She knew this person's voice, for she had heard her in Loki's memories. She turned to the source of the voice, detecting it from what looked like the entrance of the room….
And found Frigga standing there, calmly closing the door.
"I'm glad you are awake," the Queen of Asgard walked up to her with pride and dignity, "We were worried that you might have hurt badly."
Sylvie gasped softly, a loss of words. Here she is, face to face to her supposed mother, the very person she didn't really want to see. She has this radiating feeling flowing in her that enveloped her surrounding with warmth and pride. One can tell easily that this is the Queen, Thor, and Loki's mother.
She pulled her covers away and tried to get off the bed, "I'm so sorry, my Queen," she stuttered, "I shouldn't be here…"
"Oh that's quite alright," Queen Frigga halted her and sat on the bed, "We found you fainted at the hallways, I can't just let you lie around there," she chuckled, "Though I should probably double my guards, who know who attacked you….." then she turned to her with a look of concern, "Who attacked you, my dear?"
Sylvie felt content to know that she wanted the information of who blacked her out. She had a hunch that Thor was behind this, that ass. But she can't just reveal who attacked her, as much as she wanted to, "Emmm," she hesitated a bit, hoping that it's not obvious, "I don't know….."
If the Queen knows that she's lying, she didn't say nor express it. Instead, she just nodded, "I see. Well then, back to what I always wanted to ask you, my dear," she adjusted where she sat to face her, "You seem very familiar, but I've never seen you before here," this made Sylvie tense, "who are you, dear?"
"I….." she's doesn't know what to say. What can she say? This was the part she was so anxious about….and that Thor just had to leave her! "I'm…emm….."
"Yes?" she patiently waited.
She sighed, feeling a little defeated, "I'm not who you think I am," she looked at her hands, unable to say anything else.
Sylvie half-expected her to demand, asking her to elaborate, which is an area she's not ready to speak about yet. Instead, the queen only hummed, "Alright then, if I may ask something differently, I'd like a few confirmations from you," she said, "You seem to have a familiar magic flowing in you," Sylvie looked up at her, "And there's only one person whom I taught my magic to for this, which is my second son."
The Goddess of Mischief swallowed, "yes, Your Majesty?"
"Do you know Loki?" Frigga finally said the question she dreamed that she'd ask, "I know you can cast magic just like I do, but I don't know where yours come from, just that it felt very similar to Loki," she then looked at her seriously, "How well do you know my son?"
Sylvie gulped, unsure what to say, "Well, we are quite close," she managed to croak.
"Hmm," the elder woman hummed, "What is your name, my dear?"
I'm Loki, she wanted to say, "Sylvie."
"Sylvie," Frigga repeated, "What a beautiful name."
She smiled, for she chose that name herself, "thank you."
"Are you by chance, another twin of Loki?" she went right for the throat.
"Oh no, no, I swear," she opened her palms, "I mean you no harm, your Majesty. I may be a frost giant, but I'm not his sibling."
"And yet, I can sense my son's presence inside you," Frigga held her hand without her knowing, making the Goddes of Mischief startled, afraid of what comes next she wants to ask. Instead, Frigga was still pushing as she softly wrapped her fingers around Sylvie's wrist, "You are neither from this universe nor this world, are you, my dear?"
Sylvie began stuttering, "I..I…..Loki's."
She chuckled, "Calm down now, my child," she said, "I promise I won't hurt you nor will I think you mad. I'd like to know the truth, that's all."
Sylvie hesitated, she can see why Loki looked up to her a lot. She means well, perhaps she can truly trust her. She gently pulled her hand away from the Queen, and inhaled, "You're going to think I'm mad….. I've seen things that I never thought I'd see….."
"Try me," She placed her chin on her hand, watching her, "go on, I want the truth." Sylvie played with the fabric of her covers, still feeling nervous, anxious and scared about telling her everything. If only Thor is here, this would've been a lot easier. She just doesn't know where to start or what she wants to reveal. "Let's start from where you come from, my child. And don't worry what I'll think about you, I know if a person is lying or not."
Sylvie pursed her lips. Don't worry, Sylvie, she won't throw you in prison, a part of her said. Loki had always said that she's the type of person who'd believe in you. But will she believe her for what she's going to explain to her?
But if she doesn't say anything, then the Queen will definitely throw her in the dungeons. Better come clean then.
"Alright," Sylvie took a deep breath, "I'll tell you the whole truth."
Frigga nodded, "Go on."
And so, she did. She did not leave any details behind, even telling her about her killing Kang. She had to know if she needs to know why she's here, and why she could feel Loki's presence. It was awkward and anxiety crept in her when she explained everything, but not once did Frigga give her a skeptical look, rather she furrowed her brows and actually listened carefully.
After she explained everything, which was quite a while, Frigga hummed, "So, you are my daughter from another universe?" Sylvie nodded hesitantly, "And you and Loki cared very much for one another?"
She hesitantly nodded, unsure about the fact that her son is in love with himself from another universe. Does that even make any sense? How does this work?
The Queen looked at her, seeming to process what she just revealed, "So it seems, the universe is much more complex than we thought," she hummed, "But I'm glad that my son is willing to participate in this matter for the greater good," she warmly smiled, "I knew that it is still good in him."
Sylvie nodded, recalling the times that he took care of her and protected her from the Midgardians, "Yes, he is good."
"I suppose a huge part of his change involved a great deal from you," she looked at her with content, making Sylvie startled, "Did you have the same issue as Loki did about your parental origins?"
She shook her head, "No, your majesty. My parents told me since the beginning."
"Hmm, I wonder what made him so fond of you," she chuckled, making her blush. The queen then stood up, "Come, let's take a walk, dear Sylvie."
Sylvie turned rigid at the mention of that, "Where are we going?"
"Oh, just a favorite place I always go. Loki and I used to go there a lot when he was but a boy."
"Oh," she sighed in relief slowly, it's a sign that she trusts her, "So, you believe what I said?"
"Why of course, Sylvie," she sounds genuine as she said this, no hint of sarcasm nor exaggeration, "I can see through the eyes of someone if they were to lie to me, and you, young lady," she placed her hand on her cheek, "I don't see any hint of lies to me."
Sylvie smiled as the queen pulled her hand away, that feeling made her remember a small speck of memory in the back of her head of what her mother used to do to her too, "Thank you, my Queen."
"Now come, we have much to talk about," she then walked towards the door, "I'm certain that is why you are here as well."
And like a child following their mother, Sylvie followed her.
When Loki first spoke of his mother to Sylvie, she half expected her to be fierce and protective over her family and the kingdom, which is why when the first person she met face to face was Queen Frigga, she panicked. Damn Thor, we had a deal, she frowned. She can now see why both brothers just love to fight.
But after actually interacting with her, she felt like there was a missing feeling she had once longed for appeared again. Family. To think she got to see someone wise like Frigga is something she had never expected. She has this aura of a mother and a strong Goddess as well, a sense of caring for her family and people.
Even to a nobody like her.
And to think she is walking beside her, actually walking beside her is like a dream.
Frigga walked calmly, looking so unphased to the fact that she is from another universe. Sylvie wondered if she had ever dealt with that before. She walked tall with pride and elegance, so calm.
The walk to wherever they were going was silent, save for their footsteps. Asgard is bigger than she remembered, and the whole castle is just radiating with so much pride.
Moments later, she found herself at the gardens, the same gardens that Loki showed her in his memories. It's more beautiful than she remembered, everything is just full of life. The trees stand tall with green leaves, lush green grass, flowers sprouting, and the lake stretching as far as the eyes can see.
"This is where I always come by whenever I feel like I need some time alone," she finally spoke as they entered the gardens, "It's where I first brought Loki to teach him magic."
Sylvie nodded, "It must've been a special day."
"Considering his eagerness to learn magic, yes, it was. My boy was growing up to be a fine young magic user as I was," she chuckled fondly of the memory, Sylvie couldn't help but smile as well, "So tell me, Sylvie. Was your mother, well…..basically me?" They walked towards the same bench where she saw Loki's memories and sat on it.
She pursed her lips, "I'm not sure," she said sadly, "I don't remember much about my childhood before I was taken away."
"I'm so sorry to hear that, my dear," she placed her hand on her shoulder, "no child should go through anything like that."
Sylvie smiled at her concern, "Don't worry, your majesty. The TVA is now under control by a good friend of mine. No one will ever go through what I've gone through now."
"That's good. Please, dear one. Call me, Frigga. If you are my daughter from another universe, then we should drop the formalities. I suppose it'd be strange for you to call me 'mum' wouldn't it." She chuckled.
"Oh," Sylvie shifted awkwardly, unsure how to be around a mother, "Of course, your- umm…..Frigga."
"That sounds better. Now, enough about me," she turned to face her better, "How is my son's soul in yours? Can you feel him?"
She shook her head, "I was hoping that perhaps you can reach out to him?"
"Hmm, to think that Loki greatly trusts you for this," she chuckled lightly, completely stirring the way of the subject. This was what made Sylvie nervous, she didn't really want to talk to her about her life, she just wanted to know the answer and runoff. But Frigga insisted, "Aren't you dear, eh? My son in your time must've been someone you admire very much."
Sylvie shyly nodded, from the start they first met and to how he had developed as a person/god and to be someone who would fight for the people he cared for, he has changed for the better, "Yes, he is."
Frigga smiled warmly, "And what is it about you that interested him so much, I wonder."
"Oh, Frigga," she rubbed her hands together, feeling a little embarrassed, "I'm nothing special."
"Well, the fact that my son sees something in you, begs to differ," she shifted her sitting position, she smiled warmly at her, a vivid memory told her that Frigga's smile is so familiar, "You managed to survive all this time on your own," she softly said with so much sympathy in her voice, "It must've been a lonely journey."
She looked down, feeling like she had hit a nail in her heart. They only met mere moments ago and yet she could read her like she's an open book, "It was….but, I found Loki…and then I met his brother and his other friends from Midgard….."
"Love is strange, isn't it?" Frigga said to her, making Sylvie's eyes widen at the very phrase that sparked the conversation between her and Loki, "One moment you hated each other and the next, you both became lovebirds."
Sylvie felt her cheeks turning red, "I….I…."
Frigga gave a light giggle, and strokes her arm, "I've lived for thousands of years, sweetheart. I know a face of love when I see one," she smiled, which made her blush more, "And if Loki is willing to live inside you, that showed how much he loves you. How he entrusts you to keep his soul safe and sound until the day he arrives."
"That's the thing," Sylvie changed the subject, "I don't know how to get him back after he saved us all, and he managed to slip through Mordo's hands doing this. But he doesn't even know how to bring himself back. Do you think you can reach out to him from me?"
Frigga furrowed her brows, "What makes you think that I might know how to bring him back from you?"
This made Sylvie dumbfounded, "What are you talking about? You are one of the best magic users!"
The Queen still looked at her as if she doesn't know what she's talking about. "Who told you that?"
Once again, Sylvie was disbelief to hear that she would question this. Loki praised her so much so why was she denying this? "But you can use your magic to find him, right?"
She shook her head, "I am not a soul extractor, Sylvie. I am what you may call a magician, but I cannot do something that has anything to do with souls," she explained, making Sylvie's heart sink, "I am not that magic wielder, and I've never heard of this kind of magic."
The Goddess of Mischief let out a breath of fear and upset. So….she came here for naught? That there may be no way to bring him back? She doesn't know whether she should be disappointed or not, but time is running out. Mordo could attack any second and he may be able to get to her or Wanda. All Loki's effort would go to waste, and Kang will win.
Sylvie couldn't help but fidget uncomfortably as she looked another way. Is there any other way to bring Loki back? Who could? If Frigga, the greatest magic user, and his own mother, couldn't even do this, then who can? She doesn't know whether to be disappointed or worried now, for there seem to be no answers to this.
She slouched weakly, "The last thing Loki told me before he vanished, was that he believed that I could find him," she murmured, looking out at the lake she saw in his memories, feeling so lost and defeated. Like an imposter. He was counting on her, he trusted her, and now, she hasn't got the slightest clue to even get him back.
While she sat there in defeat, she felt Frigga take her hands, "Sylvie, listen to me," she looked at her genuinely and carefully, "I know that I may not be the right person to seek out to when you have hopes from me of this, however," she gently placed her hand on her chest where her heartbeats, making Sylvie shudder with her warmth, "I can help you reach out to him."
She looked at her with confusion, "What do you mean?"
"He is inside you, no?" She smiled, "I cannot see him, nor can I feel him, but I can help you reach out your soul to him." Sylvie still felt puzzled about her intention, where is she going with this? "You said that you need a strong connection with Loki. But from what you told me, I feel like you and he has a strong bond already, so why couldn't you reach out to him?"
"Maybe because I don't have the right magic."
She shook her head, "If I'm right, this has nothing to do with magic," she chuckled, "No mambo jumbos can ever change this with a snap, even mortals understand this."
Sylvie couldn't help but place her own hand on where Frigga placed hers on her chest, "I don't understand." She murmured helplessly.
Frigga gave her a genuine smile, a smile a mother would give to any children struggling something to learn, "Close your eyes, my dear." She obeyed, and closed her eyes, "Follow your heart."
Just as Sylvie was about to ask what she means by that, her heart suddenly felt like leaping out of her chest, but in a warm way and no pain. There was a feeling like the time when Mordo was trying to absorb her energy, but this one felt different. It's as if the magic inside her is working by themselves, having their own minds.
Suddenly, her mind felt light, like she's floating. She couldn't open her eyes, but she can see through her closed lid. Her surroundings are dark, there's a night sky filled with stars. She's standing in what looks like a shallow river. But she's standing on the surface, and beyond her is an outstretched ocean. What is this place?
Her heart also began to feel something, an overwhelming feeling: longing, waiting to burst, trying to break free, and…care. It's all those feelings mixed together and something more…..it was indescribable. How did this happen? What was Frigga trying to show her?
"This is your heart's station," Frigga's voice echoed in her.
Sylvie gasped at the sudden voice, "Where are you?" she turned around looking for her.
"I'm still with you, but not in your heart," Frigga said, "Only you can venture here."
"What do you want me to see?"
"Look beyond," Sylvie followed her instructions. Her eyes looked out as far as she can see but found nothing.
"I don't see anything." The Queen didn't reply back, it was empty save for the sound of water trickles from her boots, "Frigga?" she tried again, but no one replied.
Perhaps she's going to have to follow what she told her to. But go where? Everywhere she turned it's an empty space of nothing. It's like she's standing in the middle of the ocean, trying to find land.
Maybe someone is here if she called out. She cupped her mouth and took a deep breath, "Heeyyy!" she shouted, "Is anybody out there?" None. "HELLLOO!" she tried again, and all she could hear was her own voice echoing the dark abyss.
Sylvie sighed, no one is here. Maybe Frigga was mistaken.
Suddenly, far ahead, something caught her eye. A light, like the sunrise. Its beams spread fast and soon enough; it's slowly engulfing her brightly. Sylvie raised her arms on her face to shield the bright light from piercing her eyes.
Soon enough, the bright light faded. She peeked an eye to see her surroundings.
And found that she was being transported to another place. The dark ocean beneath her is gone, replaced soft grass beneath her boots. Then she looked up, she's in a meadow and at the edge of a cliff where it faces the ocean, long grass dances along even when she felt no wind. For a while, she thought that she's back at her cell or at the gardens of Asgard.
She had never seen this place. Why did Frigga bring her here?
"You were not the visitor I expected." A deep gentle voice called behind her. She was startled and turned around to face the source of the voice.
And found herself face to face with an old man with white hair and beard. One eye is covered with a golden eye patch, his golden armors shine with pride.
Sylvie blinked, she swore that she has seen him before in one of the books about Asgard that Loki brought to her weeks ago. In her heart, she knew who he was. Without even remembering the contents from the books, or knowing that this person was the one who came out victorious from wars after wars. And the King of Asgard.
"Odin," she said naturally, without even thinking.
He nodded. "Sylvie."
"Why was he after Charles Xavier?" Wanda asked.
He shook his head, confused as she was of this finding, "I'm not certain. But perhaps a visit to him might uncover a few mysteries."
"How do we know he wants to help us?" If he has the power to kick out Mordo, who knows what else he's capable of to them.
"We'll just have to try, no?" he felt like he was channeling the Ancient One's words. Long ago, he was afraid to take risks, now, he had no problem doing it. It was because of her that he's willing to take this leap of faith, how he has changed from the man he was. "We won't know lest we try, besides, we aren't on Mordo's side. So, he can understand." He then scanned the location of this variant to find his location, Earth 616. God, this is so complicated. "Where in the hell is this place?"
"We should probably ask Mobius if he can get us there," she stood up from where they sat, "Let's go find him."
He nodded and walked alongside her to Mobius's office.
When they arrived at Mobius's place, the two magicians took no time to show the paperwork to the old man and asked of his location. The elder man only hummed and typed a few things on his tempad without hesitation, "You guys are faster than I expected," the tempad's clicking noise buzzed, "But what are you trying to get from this guy?"
"Any clues from Mordo," Stephen stated, "Mordo was defeated by this guy, maybe he could give a few insights to find the real Mephisto to stop all these nonsense wars."
"You are one serious man," Mobius mumbled under his breath, to which Stephen quirked his brow up, "Alright," the middle-aged man clicked a space there again and a portal door opened, "Here we go."
"Good, thanks."
"Not so fast," he said, "I'm going to come along with you." he then jogged to his desk to grab his notebook and a peculiar-looking device that looked like a nightstand.
"What? Why?" Wanda asked.
"Why to make sure if we can find any clues of Kangs and not cause another multiverse spread," he said, walking back towards them, "Just to make sure if it won't cause a huge anomaly."
"I doubt we would, but whatever," Stephen scoffed, he's unsure what the purpose of a TVA is anymore but they have been helpful to pinpoint certain Kangs.
The three of them entered the portal.
And found themselves in a field with a large mansion. The house is dark but there is a sense of life there. Wanda felt a sense of nostalgia here even though she had never been here, for a moment she thought she's back at the Avengers compound. Just what is this place?
"Here we are," Mobius gestured to the mansion, "What a fancy house for a guy with a wheelchair."
"This place turned out to be some kind of school," Stephen said, "Though I haven't really read it thoroughly the purpose of this place since we were more interested with this man."
"There is a lot of people in this place," Wanda murmured, "And people…like me."
Stephen and Mobius turned to Wanda, puzzled on what she meant. "What do you mean?" Stephen asked.
Wanda didn't answer back, she channeled her magic wanting to see a little bit more on what's inside. This feeling is so peculiar yet familiar. She had never sensed these types of…..beings since Pietro. No one she knows has strange powers aside from her and Stephen. And even if there is…..then what are they?
Wanda.
Wanda was startled at the call of her name, "Did you call me?" someone called her, an unfamiliar deep voice said her name. But who?
The two men looked at her quizzically, "No, but we did ask you something."
Suddenly, Wanda felt as if her own powers reacted on their own. Her magic began to engulf her surroundings and red mists circled them both.
"Wanda," Stephen called her, "Whatever you're doing, you're going to alert the people in that mansion."
She panicked, "this isn't me."
"Yes, because that is me," the deep voice said again. The three of them looked around like a wolf sensing trouble, but it was hard to locate the source of the voice. "Over here," the voice said again, and this time, the mist began to materialize and formed into a bald man on a wheelchair. He looked somewhat old but not hostile. But then again, he is using Wanda's powers and he's not even with them, just a projection from a mist.
"What are you doing with my power," Wanda hissed, her eyes red as blood and an energy ball began to make static noises in her hands.
Stephen was nervous that she'll attack, "Wanda, calm down."
"This man knows how to use my power, Stephen," she snapped with venom in her tone, "I have every right to not remain calm."
"I mean you no harm, Wanda," The man in the mist said, "I only sensed your powers here, and I can't help but ask."
Stephen knew Wanda isn't in her right mind to ask such things without throwing a fight, Stephen decided that he should take over, "Let me handle him, turn every of the magic you control off, " he whispered, and the Scarlet Witch reluctantly nodded, and the energy ball in her hand faded. He sighed in relief and turned towards the mist, "Sir Charles Xavier, I presume?"
"Yes?"
"You seem to be familiar with Wanda's powers?" she gestured to Wanda.
"My apologies, when I sensed her, I thought she was Jean, my student. She has the same power as you, and I was looking for her. But when I sensed that you had a different name, I thought that perhaps Jean was using an alias. My mistake."
"I see," Stephen cleared his throat, "Well, my friend here isn't Jean. We all came from another world, we are tracking someone….well….corrupted. And when I traced his location, we found that he was here, and he once faced you."
"If you are speaking of a man possessed by a strange entity, yes. He was here just this morning."
"That's the thing, what we found that he didn't stay here long and that you managed to repel him," he explained the best he can without sounding mad, "We are trying to weaken him, and it seems that you know how to do it. He is a criminal in our time, and we will bring just to him in our world," this is really getting a little awkward, "So, we were wondering how do manage to weaken his state?"
The bold man didn't say anything for a moment, only hummed, "If you call a mental manipulation an attack, then that's exactly what I did."
"You manipulated his mind?" Wanda stepped forward, there was still a little anger in her tone, but otherwise, she didn't sound like she meant any harm.
He nodded, "The very thing that was fueling his powers was the entity, who manipulated his mind. I could see that he fed himself Nightmares, for he was trying to feed my student's nightmare too. Therefore, I countered that."
"But how?"
"By switching my student's dream into a happy dream," he said simply, Stephen found it all odd, "And that's how weakening him became so easy."
"Are you saying that to counter a nightmare is to have happy dreams?"
"Isn't that how you all fend off nightmares?" Charles looked at them all like it was the most obvious thing in the world, "That was how I managed with my student who was nearly a victim to him actually. Giving her happy thoughts dampens the frequent nightmares. Have you ever read the book 'Harry Potter'?"
"Oh please, you are going to lecture us from a storybook?" Wanda said irritably.
But the bold man only chuckled, "There's a saying from the book, 'That happiness is around the corner if one remembers to turn the lights on, that is."
Stephen felt a little dumbfounded after finding out this solution. It sounded silly to even find an answer that has nothing to do with what he had learned, but he's open to the idea. "Alright, we'll give it a shot. Won't we, Wanda?"
"Are you really trusting this guy?" Wanda sound flabbergasted.
"Look, it seems that that's the only answer he's got to fight Mordo," Stephen said, "And I don't think he's lying, and you should know too since you can read minds."
"Well, I can't read him," she glared daggers at him, "He's repelling me from entering his thoughts. He knows what he's doing."
But the old man gave out a warm chuckled, "Well, Jean gave me many lessons in order to master that. But manipulating minds isn't my thing."
"Isn't that what you did with Nightmare?" Wanda spat.
"Manipulation isn't my kind of magic. Fending off manipulation, that's my task. I resist that kind of power," he said calmly.
But Wanda looks like she's still not having that as an answer. Stephen knew he needs to get her out, "Well, it's been a lovely chat, we should get going. Thank you for your tips."
"You are most welcome." And with that, the mist disappeared, and Charles Xavier himself disappeared.
"Now, Mobius," he stood by his friend, "As you can see, we didn't do shit to the timeline?"
"Yea," he was looking at his tempad, there wasn't any beep whatsoever, "None at all."
"Right," he clapped innocently, "Let's go," then he moved to Wanda, giving her a small whisper of concern, "And you and I need a little talk after this."
Sylvie's eyes widened "You know who I am?"
Odin walked towards her calmly, "Loki's memories say a few things, but just your name. Nothing more," he stood beside her and faced the horizon. He looked so real, is this one of Frigga's projections?
"What are you?"
"A distant memory of Loki," he said, "Or so, Frigga said."
"Which Odin are you from?"
"Does it matter? No matter where I am, Loki will always be my son," there was a touch of hurt and loving in the tone of the voice of the king.
This is a strange type of magic that Frigga brought her in, "So….what are you doing here, your majesty?"
He took a moment to respond, he has a sad look plastered on his face, as if there is regret, "Perhaps I wanted to atone for events of the past, even if no apology can undo the harm I have wrought," he paused, staring at the sunrise.
Sylvie looked at him with sympathy. Loki did tell her once that their parents hid him from the truth about this, and they seemed to regret hiding it from him. But he too regretted his actions after. "Then…..why are you here?"
"I am but a manifestation of his memories, a living memory of Loki's bond with me," He took a moment to answer back, "The heart has always been quick to grow. Each exposure to light, to the natural world, to other people, shapes this most malleable part inside of us. No matter your existence, they are not different from us in that manner. We all have them in us, I suppose it's why I have an existing state like this in his heart. Deep down, I can feel that he still loves me. And I wish I could've given him more when we were together, what a fool of a father I was," he said it sadly, as a tone of regret, "But, seeing that I am part of his manifestation, I am glad that he is still willing to open his heart to me, and I am still a part of him," he then looked at Sylvie, making her shudder. His gaze unlocked some kind of long-lost memory at the back of her memory bank, "As for you, my lady. The fact that Loki was willing to move his soul to you," he chuckled and looked back to the horizon, "That is a statement of the deep love in his heart for people like you."
Sylvie felt herself blush at his words, but she felt a little confused, "But….what does that have to do with anything?"
"That bond you have with him, that you both share, I can feel the connection radiating in you strongly. It indicates that your heart and his are connected deeply," he stated calmly without ever looking at her, "You have touched his heart and accepted him, even before he placed his soul is yours. You both accepted each other, and that's why his heart never left yours. And so is yours to him. Including everyone else you have accepted in your heart, and others who accepted you in their hearts. So, no matter the darkness you fell in too deeply, you can find each other eventually, a bond with someone never dies lest they did it to themselves. That is the strong bond you have to everyone connected to you. That's why there is saying, the people who passed, lives in us," Odin looked back at her, "All you need to do is be yourself, and follow wherever that is that your heart takes you. It is the best and the only way."
Sylvie felt a realization. All this time, when she knew where to look for him when he was pruned, when they used their powers together to fight off the mist back at the void beyond, his blades that appeared before her, his thoughts seemed to be channeling to her, the nightmare of seeing him and him fighting off someone in her dreams…. Now she gets why Frigga said that there is no need for magic to find him.
For her connection with him is already there. Their hearts
"Do you understand now, child?" he looked at her as a father would to his daughter, "Even mortals who had their eyes opened would know that they do not need strange powers to have this connection to come back. But the love of people would drive them back, isn't that how the Midgardians were able to come back after a certain snap?"
Now that he mentioned it, it's true. The human friends she made along the way, no matter what danger she was in, she had friends she formed connections with. The day Mordo attacked her, the bonds she shared with the twins, even in a short period of time, along with Wanda and even Strange…
And Loki. Especially Loki. He had shown her that forming a connection, even when they hurt to lose, it's a strong feeling to fight for. All of her new journeys, it's no longer about surviving or revenge.
But to protect the people she holds onto dearly. They are the connection necessary to fight for.
Sylvie knows what she has to do now, a new determination filled her. She's unsure if it'll work, but as he said, she must follow her heart. Wherever it takes her, it'll most probably bring her to Loki. She's not sure if that even makes sense, but her heart told her it is. She nodded, "Alright, thank you."
Odin nodded, "Now, why is it that you are here?"
"Oh, well," she turned away for a while, and looked back, "I kinda have to wake Loki up."
"Does he now?" he chuckled, "No wonder I am meeting you instead of him."
"Did you get to meet him?"
He shook his head, "I am only the manifestations of his memory that are sleeping inside you from his soul. I cannot undo what I've done, however, this manifestation thanks to Frigga allowed me to…well, atone a little thing too, I hope, guide someone like you."
"Oh," Sylvie murmured, "Thank you."
He nodded, "You are an interesting girl, dear one. I never thought Loki would fall for someone like you." Sylvie felt herself going bright red at that mention, "You must be a very special lady to be able to convince or manipulate my son to do good," he chuckled, and she too couldn't help but smile. "Tell me, young lady. Who are you, really?"
Sylvie, she wanted to say. No, that's the name she gave herself. An alias, she once told Loki. That is the name to cover who she really was. She has another name, the name that her own parents gave her….
"I'm Loki," she finally said, and this time, there isn't a speck of disgust on her tongue when she said, "In the world I'm from, you are my loving adopted father."
Odin gave her a warm and proud smiled, "Then I'm proud to call you, my daughter. I'm certain your father thought the same."
Sylvie nodded, her heartfelt with warmth. If only she had more time with her father, perhaps she'd know him better.
"Sylvie," this time, Frigga's voice called, making her look up, "Are you there, my dear?"
"Loud and clear, mam," she replied back, "Do you think you can bring me back?"
"Certainly, give me a minute."
She then looked back to Odin, "I wish we had more time."
Odin walked slowly towards her, and without her realizing, he pulled her into his arms, "this very moment is a gift itself for me."
Sylvie couldn't help but wrap her arms around him too. This is the feeling she was missing ever since she was taken from the TVA. The love of a parent. "I love you, father." She doesn't know why she said it, but in her heart, it felt right. Was it Loki in him or herself?
"And I you, my child."
Her body suddenly glows brightly. Her hands became bright as the sun and soon faded. "I'm pulling you out, Sylvie," Frigga echoed again.
And at that, she felt transported away from Odin's embrace. Before she faded away, she managed to see his loving eyes, "So long, my child."
Sylvie woke up in a gasp. The first thing she saw was Frigga's concerned face looking down at her, "Are you well, dear?"
She sat up slowly, rubbing her head, "It felt like a dream," she murmured before turning to her, "What did you do to me?"
"It was a reconnection to your heart," she said, "I could not sense Loki, but I can feel his presence. What I did was a call to him."
"Call?"
"I cannot extract anyone's soul, as you may have recalled," she said, "The only thing I can do is reach out to their heart."
Sylvie furrowed her brows, "But why my heart?"
She looked at her genuinely, "A heart is useless without a soul, and a soul is useless without a heart. I believe you may have heard of this." Sylvie nodded, "Now when these two works together, they create an everlasting feeling that lives in oneself. And that is memories. The feeling that you have for some, and the desire to live to meet that person every day, the bond shared together along the way, that creates a memory. Don't you think so, my dear?"
"So then," Sylvie began to understand a little, "Is that why I met Odin in my heart's station?"
"When you said Loki is inside you, I knew you must've had a strong connection with him," she strokes her arm, "I cannot reach his sleeping soul, but I can reach him through your heart." She then strokes her cheek. Sylvie didn't know why, but when Frigga did that, there was a longing feeling inside her that made her want to cry, "Your willingness to open your heart to me enabled me to find a small part of him, and that is in a form of a manifestation. But why you were able to meet my husband and whatever conversations you both had there? Well, perhaps that's something you are going to have to ask Loki himself. My guess is that he must've finally opened his heart to him, and him with Loki."
"Oh," she murmured sheepishly, understanding all this. Now she understands why she said mere mortals don't need to have special powers to bring someone back. "I understand."
"I hope that it helps find what you are looking for?" Frigga asked, "I still don't know about the soul things…."
"It's okay, mam," she smiled, "I know what I have to do now. Thank you very much for your help."
Frigga nodded, "You are very welcome, my dear." She then leaned forward, "And Loki, if you can hear me, try not to be so reckless."
She couldn't help but laugh, "I don't think I can promise that." Sylvie blinked, did she really say that?
"Mischievous as always," she chuckled, "So, is there anything else I can assist you in?"
She shook her head, "I have everything I need now. Thank you so much, Mother."
Frigga smiled, "You are a very brave and dear child. My sons must've loved you very much."
Sylvie smiled, "They took care of me greatly."
"I'm glad I raised two gentlemen then."
She nodded, "I have to go back now, I'm going to bring Loki back."
"That you should," The Queen of Asgard said, "From my experience living with him, he hates to be kept waiting."
Sylvie couldn't help but help, "That he is." She then stood up, raised her hand, and tapped a few things on her bracelet, the TVA portal appeared before them. But before she could even enter the portal, she turned back to her, "Will we see each other again?" she felt the answer is no, but she felt that she wants to see her again.
But Frigga only smiled, "Yes, dear one. One day."
Whew, that's a long chapter. I love writing Frigga, Odin, and Sylvie's scenes. I didn't want to leave Odin behind just because he didn't treat him well in the past, I thought he deserved something extra as well since he was an important role when he said he is proud of Loki in Ragnarok. So that he knows that he is always loved.
This is such a philosophical chapter. But I like it, hope it works though. Let me know what you think!
As for Charles Xavier's scene, I nearly do not want them to meet, because it'll be brief. They just need to know how to fend Mordo off. But even if they watch him fend him off, the logical result is that they'll go meet him anyway. I admit I didn't really put much effort in that meeting scene as I was more focused on the God's family scene and that, in an MCU style, when there are new characters, usually they appear very subtly, like an easter egg to a sequel. So….I think it works? -ish? I hope it works.
Anyways, thank you so much for still wanting to stick with me even though I updated so long! This chapter was super hard, and on top of that, I have work. So I hope this chapter was ok….let I know what you guys think!
The next one should be faster because I have a couple of things planned out already for the next! Big fight and the search for Loki! I'm excited to create the next one!
I will be watching Spiderman soon as well :D But will continue to finish this chapter as well. Just a few more and this story will soon come to an end. Until then! Take care!
Claire
"She is getting more powerful, day by day." Mordo Sneered, feeling so ashamed and angry at how weak he was when fighting that bitch of a god. All of them must pay!
"We must fight her again if we are to be victorious," Nightmare hissed in his ear, "You have recovered enough strength, let's strike while we still can. And this time, no mercy."
"That I will," Mordo stood up, heart filled with rage and anger. "I shall purify this world from magic."
And at that, he opened a portal from the Dark Dimensions and glided towards it before being engulfed with darkness.
