I set down the final paper, and sighed in relief. I was done. I stood and walked over to the lamp, ready to blow out the candle when something echoed around me. Ah, ah, ah ah… I looked around. It was the same voice from this morning. I closed the door softly as to not disturb the castle. I saw Mother as she walked through the halls.
Elsa -
I can hear you but I won't
Some look for trouble while others don't
Elira -
There's a thousand reasons we should go about our days
And ignore your whispers which we wish would go away, oh
Mother turned and saw me, and we locked eyes. She could hear it too, and the call wouldn't rest until it was answered.
Elsa -
Woah
You're not a voice, you're just a ringing in our ears
And if we heard you, which we don't, we're spoken for we fear
Elira -
Everyone we've ever loved is here within these walls
We're sorry, secret siren, but we're blocking out your calls
Elsa and Elira -
We've had our adventures, we don't need something new
We're afraid of what we're risking if we follow you
Into the unknown
Into the unknown
Into the unknown (Spirits - Oh, oh)
Elsa -
What do you want? 'Cause you've been keeping us awake
Are you here to distract us so we make a big mistake?
Elira -
Or are you someone out there who's a little bit like us?
Who knows deep down we're not where we're meant to be?
Elsa and Elira -
Every day's a little harder as we feel our power grow
Don't you know there's part of us that longs to go
Into the unknown
Into the unknown
Into the unknown (Spirits - Oh, oh)
Whoa
Are you out there?
Do you know us?
Can you feel us?
Can you show us?
Oh (Ah)
Oh (Ah)
Oh (Ah)
Oh (Ah)
Oh (Ah)
Oh
Elsa -
Where are you going? Don't leave us alone
Elira -
How do we follow you
Elsa and Elira -
Into the unknown?
Mother and I stood on parallel ice-platforms, observing the gorgeous ice shards that hovered around us. "Air, fire, water, earth." Mother muttered. I saw a flash and my head snapped towards it. After the flash, all the ice fell. That's when it started. I heard the wind howling.
"Mother we have to go!" I exclaimed, grabbing her hand. Together, we raced through the castle and found ourselves in the courtyard, hiding behind a wall. We watched as the fires in the lanterns turned purple and disappeared, the water in the fountains stopped and sunk until all that was left was an empty basin. "What's happening?"
"The air rages, no fire, no water." I turned to my mother as she listed things. "The earth is next."
"The earth?"
"We have to get out." This time, Mother grabbed my hand and we hurried towards the city. The winds were seemingly shoving everyone out.
"Everyone, it's going to be ok." I shouted so people could hear me. "Evacuate Arendelle, retreat to the road to Auradon!" I saw a child clinging to a lamppost, crying for his mother. I quickly scooped him up into my arms and ussured everyone forward as the pavement began to form waves, urging everyone on. We eventually did make it to the road. I found the boys mother and gave him back before helping Elias and Uncle Kristoff with distributing blankets.
"Ok, I don't understand." Aunt Anna said as she and Mother broke away from the group. I handed my blankets to Elias who hurried to hand them out. "You and Elira have been hearing a voice and you didn't think to tell anyone?" I approached my Mother and Aunt slowly.
"We didn't want to worry anyone." Mother replied.
"We made a promise not to shut each other out." Aunt Anna told Mother. "Just...tell me what's going on." Aunt Anna demanded.
"Well…" I trailed off.
"Elira and I woke the Magical Spirits of the Enchanted Forest." Mother stated. I nodded along.
"Yeah, that sounds about right."
"Ok, that's definitely not what I thought you were gonna say. Wait...the Enchanted Forest? The one Father warned us about?"
"Yes." Mother confirmed.
"Why would you do that?"
"Because of the voice."
"I know it sounds crazy, Aunty, but this voice, the one calling to is...I don't think it's bad." I added.
"How can you say that? Look at our kingdom."
"I know." Mother sighed. "It's just that our Magic can feel it. We can feel it." There was a low rumbling and I stumbled to catch my footing.
"Oh no, what now?" Aunt Anna questioned. The rumbling got louder and we turned to see rocks rolling towards us. One in particular rolled up to us and popped itself up to reveal itself to be Grandpabie.
"Pabie." Mother greeted.
"Never a dull moment with you two." He chuckled, looking at my Mother and Aunt. His gaze then shifted to me and Mother. "Elsa, Elira, I hope you're prepared for what you have done. Angry Magical Spirits are not for the faint of heart."
"Is there a reason they're angry?" I asked. "Why is their anger being directed at Arendelle?"
"Let me see what I can see." Pabie turned to the sky and lifted his hands, causing me, Aunt Anna and Mother to turn to it. A picture of a large dam appeared in the lights. "The past is not what it seems." He informed. The image shifted to two groups of people, the leaders shaking each other's hands. "A wrong demands to be righted." Clashing swords flashed in the sky. "Arendelle is not safe." The Castle appeared in the light. "The truth must be found." The castle disappeared. "Without it, I see no future."
"No...future?" Mother confirmed.
"When one can see no future, all one can do is the next right thing."
"The next right thing is for Elira and I to go to the Enchanted Forest and find that voice. Kristoff, can we borrow your wagon? And Sven?"
"I'm not very comfortable with the idea of that." Uncle Kristoff admitted.
"You two are not going alone." Aunt Anna stated.
"Anna, no." Mother said. "We have our powers to protect us, you don't."
"Excuse me, I climbed the North Mountian, survived a Frozen Heart and saved you from my ex-boyfriend and I did it all without powers so, you know, I'm coming."
"Me too." Uncle Kristoff added, wrapping his arm around Aunt Anna. "I'll drive."
"I'll bring the snacks!" Olaf shouted as he raced past us.
"I'm coming too." Elias said, stepping up next to us.
"You will do nothing of the sort!" Father hissed, putting his hand on Elias' shoulder and squeezing, causing Elias to wince.
"Ruben." Mother sighed.
"You said it yourself, Elsa, it's too dangerous. Plus, someone of the Royal Bloodline must be here to help the people." Father said that with a glare at me. I suppressed a a glare of my own. I took a deep breath instead and turned to Pabie.
"Are you able to protect our people while we're gone?" I asked him. "I know it's a big ask but-"
"It will be my honour, Princess." Pabie said.
"Please make sure that no one enters Arendelle until this is sorted."
"Of course."
"I'll be happy to help Pabie." Elias said happily.
"Let's let them know." Mother said. Pabie kept Aunt Anna back to talk to her.
"Elias, you address the people." Father said as we approached them.
"Elira should do it." Mother responded.
"Why not Elias?" I could hear in my parents tone that this was going to end in an argument.
"Elira is to be Queen, Ruben, you know this."
"Elias is heir to the throne also."
"Elias is sixteen, the Arendellian law is that you must be twenty one to be crowned." Elias and I approached the people of Arendelle as our parents started to fight.
"People of Arendelle, may I have your attention, please." I called. The people quieted. "My mother, Princess Anna, Ice Master Kristoff and I will be venturing past Arendelle's boarders to find the source of what happened tonight. In our absence, Pabie will be overseeing Arendelle with the aid of Prince Elias. Please, whatever you do, do not enter Arendele until we return, it is not safe. If you require aid, do not hesitate to seek help from those in Auradon. Please, stay safe."
