Chapter 3: If You Know, You Know

Holiday shopping was just about the worst time to go to the mall. Jane didn't understand why the hell she couldn't just give people gift cards or order things online from the comfort of her home. It was easier, safer and made her less likely to lose her cool in a crowded mall.

"Jane, stop pouting." Maura said to her as she moved through the crowd, "Just a few more things then we can go home."

"You promised me a cinnamon roll and hot cocoa."

Maura smiled, "Of course, you'll get your sugar." She then kissed Jane on the cheek.

There must have been a fire sale announced somewhere because all of a sudden the crowd started pushing and rushing.

Maura's hand slipped from Jane's and Jane got carried away with the wave of the crowd.

Maura got pushed back, corralled up an escalator and somehow ended up on the 2nd floor. She immediately moved to the railing, looked over the side and scanned the large crowd for Jane.

"Okay Maura, you got this. Just remember the plan." She quietly said to herself.

She then took a deep breath in, cupped her hands around her mouth and yelled with all her might, "You're a wanker number niiiiiinnnnnnnne!"

Most people on the 2nd floor ignored her, others walked by and gave her a strange look. Two women walking hand and hand gave her a knowing nod.

Maura looked down over the rail again she spotted her lost girlfriend standing on a large circular planter near the pet store.

She waved at Jane then motioned for her to stay put. She made her way back down the escalator, through another large crowd and over to Jane.

"I hate the mall." Jane said as she stepped down from the planter and took Maura's hand.

"I know." Maura said with a chuckle then led her over to the Happy Rolls store to get her a cinnamon roll and hot cocoa.
