Chapter 6: Pizza, Fairy, Otter?

"Why do we have to go to this thing again?" Jane asked Maura as they went into the kitchen.

"Angela asked us to come and I want to support her." Maura told her as she grabbed a beer and a bottle of water from the fridge.

"But I'm tired and I'm too old to dress up for Halloween." Jane practically whined as she took the beer from Maura, "Can't we stay home, watch a movie and ignore trick or treaters together?"

"Jane, I know this is almost last minute but she was really excited when she invited us."

Jane shuffled over to the couch and sat down, slouching back into the cushions, wishing she could disappear into them.

Maura disappeared upstairs for a minute before coming back down, she stood in front of the tv blocking Jane's view and held up three costumes.

"These are our options." Maura told her as she layed them on the couch next to Jane.

Jane looked over at the costumes, "Really?"

"I've been busy and it's two days to Halloween, everything was gone." Maura told her.

"Well I can't choose." Jane told her as she tried to look passed her to see the game on TV.

"Be the pizza slice then."

"Why do I have to be pizza, because I'm Italian?" Jane asked.

"What? No, that's …." Maura shook her head, "Be the fairy then."

"Now I'm a fairy because I'm gay?"

Maura pinched the bridge of her nose, she knew Jane was just doing this to piss her off so she'd say they didn't have to go.

"I'll be the fairy, you get the last option then." Maura said taking her costume, "We need to leave soon so you better get changed."

Maura went upstairs to get ready and she was putting on the final touches to her make-up, a little bit of sparkly glitter on her cheeks when she heard Jane stomping up stairs.

"I'm not doing this!" Jane said as she came into their bedroom, "I look stupid."

Maura turned to her, suppressed a laugh behind a smile, "You look cute."

"I'm a beaver." Jane said to her, "What's cute about a beaver?"

Maura got up and went over to her, looking her over, "You're an otter and otters are adorable." She kissed Jane quickly on her nose.

After they were both ready and Jane pouted a little more then went over to the Dirty Robber where Angela squealed at the sight of them both.

Frankie, who was dressed like a cop, how original, came up to them, "Nice costume Maura." He looked Jane up and down, "What the hell are you supposed to be, a beaver? I don't get it."

"She's an otter." Maura said.

"Maura, don't say it. You've been saying it all night please." Jane begged of her but she ignored her.

She looped her arm through Jane's and smiled proudly, "She's my significant otter."
