If I wasn't lazy/exhausted and had the free time I did in the past, I totally would do a mini side story of Ironwood's Hellhound Battalion.
...or work on one of my other fic I neglected for so long...
Roman sat on the couch as Neo rolled a whiteboard in. Neo began her presentation by writing "OPERATION: Kill the puppy napper!" on the top of the board. Neo then proceeded to write down and draw images of her plan for Roman.
The plan went as followed: They will do a spree of robberies around a construction site. The Beacon students, being the goody-two-shoes that they were, will investigate and try to bring them to justice like they tried before. When they do, Roman will lead them to the construction site. Then, the evil puppy napper will suddenly find himself dead when the crane falls on him in 'a complete tragic accident', aka she drops the crane on him.
It should be noted Neo put effort into drawing Jaune as distortionary evil, it reminded Roman of old Great War propaganda the Kingdoms made of one another.
Neo then stood next to the whiteboard, with arms crossed after a job well done.
Roman leaned back in his seat. "Very elaborate. However, this whole plan hinges on those brats being dumb enough to want to hunt us down-"
"All in favor of forming a crusade to rid Vale of its criminal underworld, say aye!"
"Aye!" Seven voices cheered.
"Aye!" Two voices outside the window cheered.
"What the heck?! What are you doing outside our window?!"
"-which I doubt they are that stu- actually they are Beacon students so, yes I guess they are that stupid. But, what makes you think this will draw him specifically out?"
Neo didn't have an answer for that, but she had a trump card. She opened a video on her scroll and handed it to Roman before going to her room for a few minutes. After Deadly Vanilla was taken, she looked up what would happen to kidnapped animals like dogs and cats. What she saw made ETPA look like saints.
Roman entered her room a few minutes later.
"Ok, I'm convinced. If… this is what happened to Deadly Vanilla, then let's get the bastard."
It only took a few days of robbing stores for those Beacon students to take the bait. The easy part was over, the hard part was Roman leading them to the trap. In addition to there being six more people than expected, they were proving to be a real pain in the butt to keep at a distance, especially Little Red with her semblance of turning into rose pedals. But then if it wasn't her, it was the blond bimbo using wrist shotguns to propel herself forward, or miss kitty-kat using clones and a sword that was also a gun, or the celebrity that had a spear that was also a gun, or the monkey boy using nunchucks that were also guns.
Seriously, what was with the new generations and adding guns to everything? His cane also being a gun made sense because they were used by skilled assassins since firearms were invented, but a tuba that was also a rocket launcher… just, why?
Eventually, after several close calls, Roman got into position, surrounded by Beacon students.
"Ladies, gentlemen, Ice Queen-"
"Hey!"
"You caught me," he raised his hands up. "I surrender."
Upon the crane, Neo smiled with glee as she looked through binoculars. The puppy kidnapper/murderer was in the perfect spot. All she had to do was wait for Roman's signal and then justice for Deadly Vanilla will be served.
The Beacon students approached Roman, only for him to drop a hidden sack of flashbang grenades. He ran off as the students were temporarily blinded and deafened.
Neo unsheathed her sword and quickly cut a few nearby cables before jumping to the nearby roof. She then quickly took out the detonator and detonated pre-placed mini explosives on key points on the crane. The multi-ton construction machine started falling over. She could see Jaune regain his senses and gasp in fear as the crane was about to crush him. It was perfect.
… or it would have been perfect if that stupid redhead (who Neo swore she saw on a cereal box in the store once) didn't push him out of the way at the last moment!
Neo stomped her foot down several times before crossing her arms in a huffing pout. Damn it! The puppy killer was supposed to be killed, not her! She eventually looked back down and saw Jaune and the others desperately trying to get their friend out of the rubble while shouting her name. It seemed he really cared for her…
He took someone she cared for, she took someone he cared for. She figured this was a fair trade, eye for an eye and all that. She hopped down to regroup with Roman.
Soreness was all Pyrrha felt as she regained consciousness. It was a struggle just to open her eyes. She was greeted with the sight of Beacon's infirmary. She tried to remember what happened to put her here. They were chasing Torchwick and cornered him, but then she couldn't remember what happened after that, however, she remembered a crane falling and…
"Jaune!" she gasped. She shot her body up but she didn't get far. In addition to the pain that shot through her, most of her body and limbs were wrapped in bandages and casts, restricting her movement. She even had a neck brace on. Most of the pain took a few seconds to dissipate, but it felt a lot longer than that, and some of it still lingered.
She looked to the right. In her peripheral vision, she could see several machines monitoring her health and at least one IV hooked up to her. Her eyes then scanned left. She let out a soft chuckle when she saw Jaune's puppy form sleeping on the chair in an awkward position. The sunlight coming through the window showed that the sun was just starting to rise. He must have been here all night for her.
Eventually, Jaune's body slowly stirred awake, drowsily getting up with a yawn.
"Hello Jaune," Pyrrha greeted weakly. Jaune's head snapped to her before she finished pronouncing the first syllable. He quickly jumped onto her bed. He put her paws on her and looked her over, as he couldn't believe she was alive. Pyrrha smiled, but it slowly dropped when she realized Jaune didn't have a happy expression. Jaune sat down and whimpered while looking over her. Pyrrha realized why.
"Jaune," she said softly as she brought her uncasted, bandaged hand up and rubbed his back, "it's ok."
Jaune lowered his head.
"This isn't your fault."
He whimpered and turned away from her.
"Don't do that." Pyrrha sighed and brought her hand to his head and massaged it. "Unless you're telling me you know that the crane was going to collapse, which none of us did, then there's no use worrying over it. What happened happened and I'll be ok. Besides, you would have done the same for me."
Jaune then slowly walked up to her and laid down next to and hugged her upper body.
"Thank you," Pyrrha wrapped her arm around her as Jaune hugged her tighter with a soft whimper. Her eyes felt heavy and she soon dozed off to sleep. Perhaps the painkillers were kicking in, but with Jaune by her side, the pain didn't seem to hurt her anymore.
Thank you for reading, I hope you have a great day :)
