Jewel Hansen struggled as she picked herself up to the bar, willing herself to stay there for a few seconds before slowly bringing herself back down. She was struggling but she was also determined to keep at her early morning workouts. Jewel flipped her legs up and placed them on the railing as she immediately started with crunches. She knew she was supposed to give herself a rest but feeling the normal aches and pains from working out was almost addictive to this young woman. The only time she ever felt she wasn't properly working out was when she was pregnant with her daughter.
A bell chimed off in the room, marking as one hour for her workout. Jewel flipped off of the bar and landed gracefully on her feet as she walked over tirelessly to the window where her water bottle was. She took a drink of water as she saw the sky slowly change color, promising for a nice but cloudy day. She knew there was only going to be a couple of hours with the decent coolness before the sun would start to break through the clouds.
Jewel could only smile to herself as she walked into the main part of the home, already smelling sweet food. Her heart lifted up a beat when she heard a rather loud raspberry being blown from the kitchen. She turned her course from going up to the bedroom to where the noise and smell was coming from.
What she saw was Grant Ward waving around a piece of croissant in front of their daughter, Jasmine Grace's face, before he popped it into his own mouth. Jasmine thought of this as funny as the 1 year old scooted herself on the highstand even more.
Jewel decided to make her presence known as she walked in and bowed herself down to kiss her daughter on the forehead.
"Buongiorno amore mio" Grant greeted as he walked over to her, "How was your workout?"
"Great" Jasmine sighed, "But I still wish I could get rid of these stretch marks"
Grant kissed her on the head, "They will over time, but not completely. You know this"
"Yeah… " Jasmine pouted, "No one really tells you about these things until after the baby"
"I'm sure SHIELD has a machine lying around somewhere that can deal with that sort of problem" Grant went to the refrigerator, "But I don't think we would be welcomed back with open arms anymore"
Jasmine narrowed her eyes, "Nor would I want to come back"
"I know, I know," Grant nodded.
SHIELD was actually more of a worse topic to talk about to Jewel then it was for Grant. She felt more betrayal towards her team than what she felt towards him. If it hadn't been for Grant and breaking free from the other agents, she would've never known Coulson's plan to take Jasmine away from her. She looked over to her daughter as she was trying to eat a piece of banana that was stuck on her face. Jewel felt one of her curls and moved them around in a soft coil.
"Don't do this to yourself" Grant said, "Not again. We got out of SHIELD while we still could and that's that. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought them up but we're safe now, Jewels. We're working on our family here and together"
Jewel glanced up to his serious but caring eyes as she said, "You're right, we're safe"
Grant smiled, "Now, don't take this in any offense, but you stick and need to take a shower"
Jewel's mouth dropped open, "Are you kidding me?"
Grant backed away as he said, "No, you outdid yourself, babe, just… please… take your time in refreshing yourself"
Jewel grabbed a towel and whacked it in Grant's face as she moved past him, "I don't smell nearly as bad as you usually do"
"Keep telling yourself that!"
By the time that Jewel had washed herself off, she could see Lorenzo's truck was already in the driveway. He was the caretaker of this land before Grant and Jewel moved in. They kept the man around to help with the small farm around their home which prospered under his green thumb. Jewel wasn't surprised when she came out of the bathroom to see Jasmine was already in a playpen in the other room, signaling that Grant was already outside.
Jewel beamed, "Hey, Minnie! How are you?"
The baby cooed as Jewel picked her up and started to rock her, "Time to play, isn't it?"
"I hope daddy changed your diaper before he left to play with his friend, did he?" Jewel checked before she sighed in relief, "Thank goodness! Mommy wouldn't be able to eat her own breakfast after that"
As if she understood, Jasmine bounced herself up and down and repeated, "Dada, dada, dada!"
"I know you love daddy" Jewel said, "But it's Mommy and me time now"
"Don't you like that?"
Jasmine let out a happy squeal, probably because she knows that after Jewel eats, they were going to go out to the yard to check on Grant and Lorenzo. As much as she wanted to take her time in eating and sipping her coffee, she too, loved whenever Jasmine sees Grant after being separated for a while. She was definitely a daddy's girl as Jewel wondered how long that was going to last.
"Good morning, Miss Jewel" Lorenzo said before peeking into the stroller, "Hello to you too, little princess!"
"Good morning, Lorenzo" Jewel smiled as she looked around, "Still cloudy today, huh?"
"Yes, yes, but it will warm up soon" Lorenzo checked up to the sky, "Best that she doesn't come out after her nap. It'll burn her skin"
"Thank you, I'll make sure to keep her inside" Jewel smiled, "Where are you off to?"
"The shed" Lorenzo called over his shoulder, "We're going to plow more fields"
Jewel groaned, "He's planning on making this place into an island"
Lorenzo could only laugh as Jewel turned and headed over to where Grant had to have been saying, "Your daddy's crazy"
Jasmine was more alert than ever, knowing that they were outside and that only meant one thing. She kept craning her neck until she saw in the distance, Grant Ward investigating dry soil.
Jasmine let out a squeal that echoed, making Grant smile as he said, "Hey, Jaz. Couldn't stay away?"
"Not a chance" Jewel shook her head, "Why are you going to make another field?"
"Just a small one" Grant moved his hands around, "Maybe for grapes?"
"We have those, you're just too impatient to wait until they grow" Jewel waved her hand over to the other side, closest to their home.
"Yeah, but these ones will be for eating the grapes not turning them into wine" Grant smiled as he dusted off his hands, "The time is now that we need to start preparing"
"It's almost summertime" Jewel argued, "Your grapes wouldn't stand a chance out in this sunlight"
Grant turned and looked to Jewel as he placed his hands on his hips but his smile didn't falter as his eyes flickered off into the distance.
"Oh, shit"
"What?" Jewel asked, "You now realize what I've been saying is true?"
"No… Coulson" Grant said.
"What?!" Jewel turned around as she noticed the man slowly walking over as her stomach turned, "What the hell is he doing here?"
"I don't know"
"How did he find us?" Jewel whispered.
"We never lost you" Coulson said, "It did take Skye a couple of months, even though she would hate to admit it. We just kept our distance to see where you guys stopped to make your forever home. Livorno, Italy? Nice"
Grant squared up his chest, "What do you want, Coulson? We've done nothing wrong"
"You're right, you haven't and I really hate to ask this but I need your help. I'm short on people and the ones that I'm after think they know me best" Coulson explained, "So I'm doing what I never thought I would do and that's turn to the man that destroyed the best team I ever had"
"We're not interested," Jewel said through gritted teeth.
"What's the catch?" Grant called out.
"Grant!"
"Your freedom" Coulson said, "And your dealing with Garrett wiped clean from the database"
Grant and Jewel looked to each other, stunned as Coulson called out, "You'd be pardoned from your crimes and would live as a free man, never having to look over your shoulder"
Jewel glared, "He's lying"
"If you invite me in, we can talk about what I have in mind," Coulson suggested.
Jewel turned to him, "You don't have a place here!"
"Jewel" Grant reached out, "Calm down, baby, you'll upset Jasmine… let's see what he's got to say"
