Chapter 1: Why

When Noah Puckerman awoke in the hospital. He felt a small hand holding onto his hand, and the voice of Liza Marie Anderson said, "Uncle Nono, can you see me?"

Noah replied, "No, I can't. What happened?"

He then hears Quinn ask, "Don't you remember anything, Puck?"

Noah clears his throat and says, "The only thing I remember, I guess, was when Z almost killed Kurt and Blaine at Rachel's. Before, I tried to get the gun away from him."

Liza Marie then says, "They're all dead. I am living with Auntie Queenie! G' Pa Burt is in a deep sleep, along with Auntie Tana, and so is Uncle Pooper! Uncle Pooper saved me and Auntie Queenie!"

Noah soon hears Burt say, "Puck, I just woke up too, and we are sharing a room."

Then Quinn says, "Sorry, Puck and Mr. H. you missed the funeral, and I moved into Mr. H's old house that had the basement bedroom. Ha, the basement staircase is now a ramp that leads to Liza Marie's new room. Um, Puck, they shot you in the head and back."

And Liza Marie says, "You still have your legs, and you were my shield from getting hit before Auntie Queenie got me out."

Soon, Noah says, "Mr. H., would you like to move in with us? Look, I know I'm not Kurt or Finn here. But you are Liza Marie's grandpa, and I will need somebody to be my eyes when Liza Marie dates."

Then Liza Marie says, "Daddy Nono, G' Pa taught me how to use a shotgun, and what if G' Pa goes blind before I date? Did you think of that?"

Noah said, with a raised eyebrow, "I can just have machine guns rigged with motion sensors. Did you ever think of that, young lady?"

Before Burt says, "I think your new daddy's gotcha there, Kiddo." Noah then hears her climbing into his bed before he feels her hand holding his. Then he felt her lay her head on his chest as she broke down.

Santana woke up a week later, and Cooper died that same day. Liza Marie had already been through her dad's funeral. Liza Marie's grandfather, Patrick, thought she shouldn't go. So, no one even told her, but she found out. When she was watching TV on the day of the funeral, Liza Marie didn't come out of her room for days afterward. When Noah and Burt could go home, Burt went to check on her and saw her sleeping with a photo album lying next to her.

As he put Liza Marie to bed and he put the photo album on her nightstand. He says, "Sorry, kiddo."

As he leaves the room, she says, "Z is a big, dumb meanie, G' Pa Burt. Why did he have to kill the people we love? " Burt didn't have an answer, so he just said, "I don't know, Kiddo. Now, get some sleep."

When Burt went into the living room, he heard Noah outside yelling at someone, saying, "You have ten seconds to get off my property, assholes!" Then he hears machine guns going off and someone yells, "Holy shit! Let's get out of here! Move, move, move! " Before, they heard tires squealing.

He chuckled as Noah came back in, with Quinn behind him. Then, Quinn says, "Puck, bought the house before he went overseas and set up the security system. I didn't know the code to turn it on and have been dealing with punk kids egging the house."

Soon, there was a knock at the door, and Burt answered, seeing an old lady. The old lady introduced herself as Ester Turner and asked Noah if he would like to be part of the neighborhood watch. Noah agreed, and after Ester left, they busted out laughing. Before Quinn says, "I swear, I thought she was going to say something about calling the cops or something!" Noah and Burt tried to stifle their laughter as they said, "Same here."

After months of physical therapy, Noah could walk again, and Liza Marie would stream him, twirling his cane, or nunchucks, or doing chin-ups. Santana would talk to Burt or Quinn on Facebook Messenger about how it was like he was preparing for a battle or something.

Two months later, around 3 am, the machine guns go off before they hear Ester screaming for help. Noah goes outside with his protective gear on, along with a helmet that had a camera in it and a shotgun. While Burt uses a walkie-talkie to tell him where to aim as he is watching on a monitor. As Noah shot the tires of the truck of the person that was in Esther's house before the police got there.

Luckily, Ester was okay, but she still needed to go to the hospital to be evaluated and checked out by a doctor. When she came home, she came by the house to thank Noah, saying, "I remember when you were the one harassing Mr. Hummel's son Kurt before you became friends. I knew when you bought this house, you were going to be the best thing for this neighborhood."

Noah then says, "Well, thanks. I hope to be here for a long time." Ester says with a smile, "I saw the look on the guy's face when you walked into the police station with your cane. He went white as a ghost and looked a little embarrassed that a blind man got the better of him. " Noah says with a chuckle, "That guy is lucky I couldn't see him, Ms. Turner."

Then Ester says, "Mr. Puckerman, since you moved here, I have felt safe, and I knew you would keep this neighborhood safe too. Ha, I don't think our neighbors are too happy about the noise pollution that your security system causes. But after it helped save my life, I don't care if it disturbs the peace. Well, thanks so much for saving me, and I hope you never have to again. I got to get going. My son Mark is coming by to see me."

Soon she is gone, and Santana comes by to visit, saying, "Damn, Puck, I think you'll be worse than Mr. H was when we were all in Glee." Noah just smirks and says, "I hope I am because I will not let Liza Marie date a punk kid like me."

Then Burt chuckles before saying, "I can see it now. Puck sitting on the porch with a shotgun, waiting for Liza Marie. Ha, I bet Kurt is up in heaven right now saying something like, "You better not be like dad was, Puck!" I can't wait to see what you'll do in ten years, and I hope Liza Marie doesn't do what Kurt did."

This made them all laugh before Santana said, "I doubt she will, Mr. H with Quinn, still being alive and all."

A couple of weeks later, Noah was sitting on the front porch when he heard a car pull up, and someone gets out, saying, "Mr. Puckerman, this is Sergeant Michael Young." Noah crosses his arms and says, "It's been two weeks since Mrs. Turner came home from the hospital, and you're coming to talk to me, now?" Then Sergeant Young says, "This is not about that, or your security system. It's about the man that tried to kill your niece."

Then Burt comes out, asking, "What about him?" Sergeant Young looks at Burt as he says, "He escaped from prison and is headed here." This makes Noah storm back into the house after Sergeant Young leaves, and he takes out all his guns before he loads them with the proper ammunition. As Burt says, "Puck, don't you think you're going a little overboard here?" Noah just continues to load his guns as he says, "Tell that to Beth, Carole, Kurt, and Blaine, Mr. H! That son of a bitch killed people we love, and I am not losing Liza Marie, Quinn, or you! Azimio almost killed us, and I am not giving him the chance to do it again!" Then he turns around with Burt's rifle in his hands and says, "Now, you can either join me here or you can hide in here like a coward!"

After a week of seeing the men outside with their guns, Santana thought the two men were going crazy, until she was face to face with Azimio in her own home. She just kept her cool and texted Noah, saying, "Z is here!" As she was in her bathroom pretending to pee. An hour later, Azimio is on the phone talking to a negotiator. While Santana was tied to her bed naked after Azimio attacked her from behind and raped her. Of course, the rape didn't stop just because the cops were there, and Santana prayed that Noah and Burt would save her soon. It wasn't until she was raped for the fortieth time. Noah stormed in to save her and shot Azimio as he stormed in. Soon after that, Santana is living with Noah because the memories of the attack make her house feel unsafe.

Not long after Santana moved in, she and Quinn were in Liza Marie's room getting it ready for a slumber party. When Santana says, "Ha, remember all the parties Kurt had in this room?" Quinn chuckles as she says, "Ha, I remember the guys always having to carry Artie up and down the steps. Ha, I bet he is up in heaven asking Kurt why didn't someone build a ramp for him. Mrs. A gave Puck Artie's gloves, which he always wore and helped me design the house before you guys woke up." Soon, Quinn heard a loud bang and saw the table in the room tipped over while Santana was on the floor crying.

Before Quinn could say a word, Liza Marie ran down the ramp and hugged Santana as she said, "Z is an asshole, Auntie Tana! I miss Dada and Papa so much that my chest hurts some days! I hate that Z hurt you twice and that Nono is blind! But crying over what happened won't bring them back!" Soon, Santana chuckles as she says to Liza Marie, "Thanks, Little She-Hulk, I needed that. Now, help me get your room ready for the party"

Two hours later, while the adults were in the living room. They heard the girls scream just before the alarm system went off. As Burt and Quinn go to check on the girls, Santana and Noah go outside, and Santana sees a truck with its lights on. Then Noah aimed his gun and fired before someone screamed, "I thought you said he was blind! Holy shit! I think I got glass in my eye!" Then Noah fires again and hears a group of voices say, "Come on, man! Let's get out of here!" Then the lights dim and Santana can see that there was still someone in the truck. He revs the engine just before Noah aims again, and the cops arrive in time to arrest the guy. Soon they find out it was the same guy that tried to hurt Ester.

After that, Noah camped out on the porch day and night for the next three weeks. He was relying on his other senses more and getting better at using them. One day, Liza Marie was in the backyard watching him do high sidekicks and roundhouse kicks. At one point, his neighbors came out with their cell phones, and Liza Marie went to get his nun chucks. As Burt and Santana watched Noah, they noticed how Liza Marie's face beamed. When Noah finished with his workout, Liza Marie took his hand and Burt saw a tear roll down Noah's cheek. It was at that moment that he knew the real reason Noah was doing all this.

A week later, Burt and Noah were on the porch when Burt said, "She's not Beth, Puck."

Noah chuckles as he says, "I know, Mr. H. You don't think I know that?! God, Mr. H, some days I just can't be around Liza Marie, because she reminds me of Beth."

Then Quinn comes out of the house and says, "You're not the only one that thought that Puck. When you, Santana, and Mr. H were in comas, that was all I thought about. The day you and Mr. H woke up, she yelled at me after I called her Beth for like the fortieth time. Ha, it was her yelling that woke both of you up."

Then Quinn looked at Liza Marie, as she was watching television, and she asked Burt, "Do you think Kurt and Beth are okay with her bonding with Puck?"

Then Noah says, "Beth might be, but I bet anything Kurt is freaking out right now. Plus, Elizabeth, Finn, and Blaine might take turns calming him down."

Soon, Burt lightly hits Noah in the shoulder and asks Quinn, "Did you find that yellow diary?"

Quinn giggles as she says, "Oh yeah, I found it. Ha, and let's just say I'm so glad Puck can't see to read it."

Then they heard Liza Marie say, "But I can, and I know how to read, too. By the way, Nono, Dada's first crush wasn't Uncle Finn, and I used this diary to blackmail Dada to make you two my godparents. After I had read that, he was still crushing on you when Queenie was pregnant with Aunt Beth. He didn't even care that you weren't like him and wanted to ride something you had."

Then Liza Marie screams, "Ew! You named your Winkie! Gross! Dada's birthday!" Then they heard her run to the upstairs bathroom.

Quinn was the one that went to get the diary and said, "Wow, Mr. H., you better be glad Kurt got you and Mrs. H together. Puck, you'd better be glad he moved on to Finn. He wanted someone like Mr. H., and he thought you were the guy, Puck."

Then they heard Santana say, "You can't fool me, young lady. You are crushing on Daddy Puck and you know it."

Before Liza Marie says, "Oh, shut it, Auntie Tana!"

Then Noah goes back into the house and says to Liza Marie, "Squirt, I do love you, but I have Mama Quinn, and I'm too old for you."

Soon, Liza Marie is taking his hand and saying, "I know, Daddy. I'm sorry, I'm not Aunt Beth."

Then Noah falls to his knees and says to her, "Before I woke up, I was dreaming of watching Beth grow up, and when you took my hand. I made a promise to myself that I was going to be the best daddy ever. I'm sorry I couldn't save Beth or both your dads, Liza Marie, and I miss Beth so much it hurts to be around you."

Soon, Liza Marie is hugging Noah as she says, "I love you, Daddy. I have always loved you more than anyone else. You are my heart and I know I can't replace Aunt Beth or that you can't replace my dads. But I will never stop loving you, and you are my hero."

After this, Noah gets up and goes to Liza Marie's room. When they come back out, she has on boxing gloves, and he takes her to his punching bag in the backyard.

Then he puts her down and says, as he holds the bag, "I want you to pretend this bag is Z and hit it as hard as you can,"

Soon she was hitting the bag and saying, "You crazy motherfucker! Why did you kill the people I love? I hate you!"

As she was hitting the bag, Noah was having a hard time standing still and asked Quinn, "Babe, what really happened that day?"

Liza Marie was the one that answered, saying, "We were both fighting Z together, then he took Grandpa Burt's gun that you got him for Christmas and started shooting everybody. Uncle Pooper did get me and Queenie out, then went back in. I went back in after hearing Nana Carole scream. You and Grandpa Burt were running out as I was going back in. You tried to get the gun away from Z and got shot in the head. By the way, I have been using your weight bench since I moved in."

Then Noah says, "How? None of the weights were moved!"

Soon, Liza Marie was lifting Noah over her head, and Santana says, "So, it wasn't just because of her anger."

Then Santana says to the others, "Blaine called her Little She-Hulk for years, and I thought it was because of her anger. Ha, he wanted to call her She-Puck, but Kurt threw a fit over that. I guess Blaine found the diary first and just said that to get under Kurt's skin."

As soon as Noah is put down, he says, "Ha, if Rachel knew about this, she would be freaking out."

Liza Marie giggles as she says, "You don't remember her freaking out when we fought with Z. Do you? She was trying to get Papa and Grandpa Burt to stop me. But all they did was watch, and Dada was trying to get her to be quiet."

Then Liza Marie cried and screamed, "I wish I was the one that didn't remember any of this! I'm almost seven and have to take the same medicine as Daddy!"

Noah asks, "Does she take PTSD meds too? Why wasn't I told this?"

No one said a word, and Noah took Liza Marie back inside.

Soon after, the others find them sleeping in Liza Marie's bed while Tim McGraw's song My Little Girl plays on repeat on Liza Marie's iPod.

Before they left the room, they heard Noah say in his sleep, "You're my little girl, I love you, Liza Marie."

One day, Quinn and Santana were at the park with Liza Marie. When Santana noticed, a boy like Kurt was being teased by ten other boys. Before she could save the boy, Liza Marie was body-slamming one of the boys and knocking two more boys out in the process. The other seven boys run away after she growls at them. Then, Quinn says, "Those boys' dads won't believe that a six-year-old little girl just attacked them."

Soon a big burly man comes to them holding one of the boys that ran away and says, "I'm Ester's son Mark, and this is my son Eric. I warned my son about hanging with those boys, but he didn't listen to me. Ha, I was watching the boys too, and was about to stop them myself. Then I saw her, and let's just say you might see a video on Facebook of her body slamming that little jerk. Ha, I'm friends with the guys in Puck's unit, and her grandpa Burt saw the video already. I wish Puck could have seen it. Well, I got to get going. I have to take mom to court to testify against the guys that attacked her."

Then Quinn says, "Puck is already there with Mr. Hummel. He has to testify too. I'll see you there." Mark smirks before leaving, and Quinn whispers, "Let's go. I can't wait to see Puck or you testify." Soon they were in the courtroom, and when Noah gave his testimony, Jason Rockford, the guy that attacked Ester, was constantly interrupting him and acting out. Noah just kept his cool the whole time and growled at Jason as he went back to his seat. It took the jury thirty minutes to deliberate, and they found Jason guilty.

Later that afternoon, Noah and Liza Marie were in the backyard, working out together. When the others noticed, Liza Marie was using a broken broomstick like a fencing sword as Noah used his cane as they were fighting against each other. Plus, they noticed Liza Marie had a blindfold on. Soon they're moving so fast that you could barely tell they had anything in their hands, and Liza Marie was yelling, "Hiya!" repeatedly every time Noah's cane hit her stick.

Noah took the blindfold off Liza Marie just before she lifted him over her head as he counted to one hundred. When she put him down, Noah heard someone whisper, "Holy shit." But it was too low to tell if it was a male or female. Then, Noah smirks after he hears someone running away.

A month later, Noah was alone outside with his rifle. After someone had been waking them up at night, setting off his security system five times a night. Whoever it was, they were also harassing his neighbors, too. In fact, his neighbors were being harassed more, and the cops couldn't do anything about it. Because whoever it was would disable the security systems and wear masks when they tried to disable Noah's security system.

Then one night, they got careless and didn't put on their masks. Burt recognized the boys as the sons of Puck's friends on the hockey team and immediately contacted the police. But they did nothing, even after they saw the tapes for themselves.

A week later, Noah had an electric fence put up. He knew it could be disabled, but still had it put up, and that night he heard several men scream before he heard the security system go off. Then Burt went outside and saw five guys in masks passed out on the ground.

As soon as the police came to arrest the boys, they saw Noah standing outside with his arms crossed. Then he says, "I'm getting really tired of doing your job for you. First, you were late in saving me and my friends from Z. Then he escapes, raping Santana, and I had to save her. And then these assholes harass us, and you just set on your asses. Meanwhile, I'm doing your job for you and doing a better job at it."

Then one police officer whispers, "Yea, right. But we're not the ones that got shot in the head and went blind. Are we? Asshole!" Before Noah was about to lunge at the guy, only to be held back by Burt and Santana.

Soon, Sergeant Young says, "You're right, Mr. Puckerman. You have been doing a better job protecting your friends and this neighborhood. But like us, you can't be in two places at once, and you can't do this alone." Then the police leave after Burt and Santana say, "He's not alone."

A couple of days later, Ester's grandson, Eric was storming into the house yelling, "Hurry, there are masked men at Nana's beating up my dad and Nana!"

Burt and Noah didn't have to be told twice. Then Quinn says, "Mr. H, stay here. Santana get Puck's gear. I want to show the police Puck can do it on his own. They don't have to know that Puck's helmet has a goddamn camera in it."

As soon as Noah had his gear on, he stormed into Ester's house. Liza Marie was the one who told him where Ester and Matt were. Before, Noah started shooting their attackers in the chest. When it was over, Matt said, "Puck, are you crazy? Those guys were part of the Marco Gambini Family! They have been paying off the police since Kurt's mom was murdered!"

Burt storms into the house and grabs Matt by his shirt before yelling, "My first wife died of cancer! She wasn't murdered! Kurt was! Why would you say Elizabeth was murdered? " Before Burt could get an answer, Noah grabbed him and said, "Mr. H, you need to calm down. Liza Marie doesn't need to lose one more family member."

Thirty minutes later, FBI agents are sitting in Noah's room with the monitors that were connected to his surveillance cameras and helmet. Then, Agent George Reynolds looks at Liza Marie as he says, "Marco knows about the things Mr. Puckerman did. He hired Jason Rockford. We have been trying to put that family away for years, but we suspect that they are paying off the police."

Then he looks at Noah as he says, "I'm friends with General Stacie Smith, and she warned me you go rogue a lot. Ha, it did not surprise her to find out you are blind now. She also has read about you in the newspaper and thinks you are the perfect person to take down, Marco."

Liza Marie says, "Won't the mob men know Daddy is working with you when they see a van or a car that isn't normally in this neighborhood? Do you know if they know about me? I might be stronger than other kids, but I'm not bulletproof, and I don't have gear like you or Daddy! Nor do mommy Queenie or Auntie Tana!"

Agent Reynolds had to chuckle at this and say, "I saw your mother's video of the fight with Mr. Adams. I wonder if your new daddy has felt the scars on your arm. Or if he knows about you helping him fight Mr. Adams." Then Liza Marie takes off her long sleeve shirt and puts Noah's hands on her arm and chest.

The scar on her chest shocked him the most. He was about to ask Quinn about the heart donor, when Liza Marie said, "It was Aunt Beth's daughter Norah. They shot her last. You were trying to get the gun away from Z after they shot her. Mama Queenie told me not to tell you." Noah puts his ear to Liza Marie's chest and breaks down as Agent Reynolds leaves.
