Jewel Hansen had hoped that when she woke up that there was going to be good news on their next move. She mainly just wanted to get up and do one simple mission so she could be on her way back to her peaceful family in Italy. But she should've known that now living on the run and trying to track down the same person of interest, things take some time. Fitz was glued to one of his five screens as he did his best to track like Skye. Mike was on the lookout as Hunter enjoyed a good European soccer game.
She had to admit that it was starting to get annoying sitting with people she knew didn't trust her. Yes, last night was a breakthrough but they were all agents, things could be kept superficial. Jewel knew there was a possibility that none of them could come back to being friends and being around them made it sad once more for her. She couldn't even tell who had it worse out of the original team.
Her mind only thought about Jasmine for a split second before she shot out of her seat and marched outside. She could hear Coulson's warning of not going out because the new SHIELD might have satellite's on them, but she didn't care. Jewel hoped they would come because she had a lot to say to their "group" of directors.
"Already on your way home?" Muna's voice broke through the other line.
Jewel sighed, "I wish… things got a lot more complicated than what Coulson led on"
"Of course, we're all spies," Muna answered, "It's our job to be secretive. I would've been more concerned if he actually did tell you everything"
"I suppose" Jewel said, "How's my little Minnie?"
"She's doing good!" Muna said, "She's taking a nap, a lot longer than normal because we were out playing in the yard. But she misses you guys, she woke up crying today saying she wanted you guys to come back home"
Jewel's breath shuddered as her heart broke into a million pieces, "Really? I wish I called earlier so I could hear her voice. We miss her too"
"You want me to call you when she wakes up?" Muna asked.
Jewel opened her mouth to answer but noticed from the corner of her eye, Mike Peterson who casually looked away from her. She knew he could hear every word out of their conversation but still, staring at his half burned, half machine body made her hesitate.
"No" she finally answered, "It might be better if we don't talk"
Muna must've been surprised on the other end because it took her awhile to figure out what to say, "Okay, well, it's your choice"
Jewel turned and scanned the perimeter as she wished she could take back the words that she just said.
"Did you know there were two SHIELD's?" Jewel changed the subject.
"Really?" Muna sounded surprised, "Well, that kind of explains everything now that I think about it. Some stories didn't add up"
"Yeah, apparently this new one is not just one director but five of them" Jewel rolled her eyes, "They bring everything up to a vote"
Muna let out a laugh on the other end before she said, "Are you serious? How are they expected to get shit done?"
"Thank you" Jewel smiled, "But thanks to that golden rule, we were able to get away. They're probably still deciding on how to proceed now that they know Grant and I are here"
"Hopefully it buys you guys enough time" Muna glanced over her shoulder to the monitor, "But don't worry, I'll make sure no one touches your angel"
Jewel breathed out again but this time in relief. She forgot how good of an agent Muna was and how she didn't need to tell her anything. The main reason she called was to let her know of the new threat. Even though Muna was well-prepared to deal with any kind of danger, Jewel wanted to give her the heads up in order to not be confused. There was no one in the world she'd rather trust to protect her daughter.
"I hope this ends soon, but with this new SHIELD, things might get stalled even more" Jewel said, "They're after the band of misfits that Skye's with but it sounds like they want them for different reasons"
"Grab and tag" Muna understood, "And why would they want to do that?"
"Not too sure" Jewel said, "They think that people with gifts are a threat now"
"Oh, please, New York was saved because of a band of gifted people" Muna scoffed, "That makes no sense- you know what, I want to be in on this mission to speak my mind about that"
"Believe me, there's already a line forming" Jewel huffed, "I want more than anything to meet whoever was "voted" to be at the top"
"If they even did that" Muna said, "Maybe all of these people were candidates to being the next Director and since Coulson was picked, they all retaliated by making their own after-school club"
Jewel's eyes popped open, "Muna, you are a genius"
"Of course, I am" Muna said, "Anything to get you back home to your Jazzy"
"Give her kisses for me" Jewel concluded, "I'll call you when I can"
Jewel closed the phone and ran back into the house where she noticed that she missed something. Everyone was around Fitz as he was talking about some sort of location as Hunter and Grant Ward were gearing up. She turned and looked to Grant who only came up to her with a bullet proof vest and an icer.
"Fitz, found a location on the Inhumans" Grant cleared up, "We'll be leaving in 10"
"How? I thought it was a dead end?" Jewel asked.
"Apparently, Simmons is working from the inside for us" Grant went on, "She can't do much but she tries to give us a heads up when she can. Looks like that girl knows how to lie"
"You have no idea" Jewel mumbled under her breath as she walked up to Coulson, "I need to speak with you"
"We can arrange contracts later" Coulson said, "Right now, Skye is sitting still and we need to act now"
Jewel ignored him, "Who was supposed to become the new Director?"
"What?" Coulson turned around, "Why are you asking?"
"Because it wasn't supposed to be you, was it?" Jewel said, "You weren't even a candidate at the time SHIELD fell"
"Okay, one; ouch" Coulson said, "And two, there was a rumor it-"
Coulson blinked as he stared off into space, almost as if he was trying to recall a list. His sudden silence made everyone pause and look over to the exchange that was happening. He looked over to Jewel as she tried her best to not smirk in his face.
"Son of a bitch" Coulson let out, "How did you figure it out?"
"Not me, Muna" Jewel said, "No wonder they had it out for you"
"Is someone going to share with the rest of the class?" Hunter asked.
"The group of directors for the new SHIELD" Coulson explained, "They were all candidates to become the next director if something happened to Fury. SHIELD fell, documentation wasn't provided, and the obvious being that no one knew Fury was actually alive and appointed me the toolbox… that was their motive"
"And the only way to take it out on you, was to form a little club of their own" Jewel finished.
Coulson nodded and looked over to Jewel who raised up her hands and backed away. No wonder the new SHIELD seemed to have it out for Coulson.
"Kinda makes you feel sad for them, doesn't it?" Hunter looked to Fitz, "I mean, they each thought they were being promoted but didn't"
"Yeah, except in this case, they decided to divide and confuse an already existing organization" Fitz said.
"I'm still confused on why they didn't just change their name" Grant said, "Still would've been the same just a different name"
"I guess when we get Skye, we'll have to ask them ourselves," Coulson said.
"If we tag along" Jewel looked to Grant, "I'd like to ask a few questions myself"
"Another time" Grant mumbled, "I'm sure Coulson wouldn't really like our method"
"Believe me, after what we've been through, have at it" Coulson said, "They're doing more damage than good"
"Guys, the window of opportunity is closing" Fitz warned, "Simmons said she can't hold off the information for long, May is coming onto her"
Jewel felt tense as she could see Fitz worry in his face.
"What would they do to her?" Jewel asked.
"Each will have different methods" Grant said, "Let's just hope they decide slower about her fate then ours"
"Why do you care?" Fitz asked.
"Because Jewel and I can take care of ourselves" Grant didn't hesitate to raise his voice, "And Simmons isn't capable of suffering consequences like us. What's worse is that May knows this and will use this to her advantage"
