Man, this quarantine sure leaves your head full of ideas when you are not busy with stuff like homework or going outside.

Anyway, time for another chapter.

Chapter 2: Fall from grace (RWBY)

The world of Remnant, a planet where death awaits you at every corner.

A place where the monstrous creatures of Grimm have inhabited many parts of the world. To the point that not even mountains, oceans or villages are safe from these creatures of darkness.

The humans have made kingdoms sheltered by walls, meant to protect the population but even the kingdoms aren't safe.

Vale's criminal underground is notorious for some of the most dangerous gangs and criminals. People like Roman Torchwick make it a gambit to set up shops selling Dust and the hidden gangs make it important that you do not mess up when you associate with them. The corruption present within the high ranking members of Vale government also make things harder.

Mistral, while the most beautiful of the four, is still full of dangers. In particular, the black market and the assassins hired to kill people ensure that some people always check their backs and not make any enemies.

Atlas is a frozen land where your survival is equal to zero if you are not living in the kingdom or maybe even Mantle. The cold climate will kill you quickly of the Grimm do not and the more dangerous types that live in Solitas will make you regret leaving the other continents. Atlas's high class people are a problem as well, in particular the SDC's treatment of many of its miners and the corruption within the kingdom might shatter any high expectations you might have had.

Vacuo is perhaps the biggest example of how bad things are going. Once a beautiful, hospitable oasis now it's a barren wasteland from the unchecked human activity and relentless Dust mining. Its people are nomadic, constantly moving from place to place. The Grimm activity is the highest in this place and yet it did not deter the people living there. People of Vacuo have mutual respect of each other and the unofficial rule of 'If you survive here, you are welcome here' ensured that Vacuo had little to no signs of racism towards the faunus.

The faunus themselves, humans with animal features, live with prejudice from the humans. Though at times the humans did not mind them, there will be those who hate the species and ensure that the racism continues. Although the recent actions of White Fang paint no good picture of the faunus.

Their home of Menagerie is dangerous as well, only a small part of it is habitable, the other parts are a dangerous desert and lush jungles with many dangerous predators lurking in the trees. Though many faunus and humans consider it a safe haven, some see it as an animal cage meant to keep them in check. The origins of White Fang begin in this place when the chieftain at the time decided to create an organization to help their brothers and sisters overseas. Though the growing population's agitation and the dwindling living space, coupled with White Fang's more violent tactics began to take its toll on the population whose already bad perception of humans is staring to get worse. No human has ever visited Menagerie for the faunus might not appreciate it.

That's not including the various bandit tribes that like to terrorize towns and attract the Grimm, causing the population to dwindle slowly but surely towards inevitable doom.

Remnant by all accounts is a Death World and its history makes one wonder how could humanity ever survive the ever-encroaching doom known as the Grimm.

But it wasn't always like that.

There was a time before the Grimm appeared, a time when humanity was at its peak, a time when technology surpassed anything created by Atlas, a time when the continents were connected.

A time when humanity seemed unstoppable and intent to take on the distant worlds beyond their planet.

A time when the moon was a colony and whole, the first sign of greatness to come.

A time before the existence of faunus.

An era of peace, where various cultures came together to form the greatest superpower in mankind's history.

A time when Remnant was known by a different name and the kingdoms were all united to form one great empire.

The Golden Age of humanity. The peak of its power, the era lost to time.

Humanity, like all intelligent species, began to evolve from the simple cavemen, using rocks and sticks to hunt and survive in the harsh world. The various animals at the time provided for a lot of clothes due to their hides and skins, weapons like bows and arrows and clubs became standard.

But cavemen were not simply willing to work together, for in these times it was not uncommon to see tribes killing one another in an effort to gain more territory or simply survive. As years went by though, intelligence began to rise, tribes started coming together in peace to create villages and societies. Slowly but surely, the simple primitive cavemen began to create complex societies and villages, stone weapons started becoming obsolete in favor of metal weapons created from the minerals found in mountains and under the ground. Smelting copper and other metals spelled the end of Stone Age and the beginning of the Bronze Age.

This was the time when things began to get better for humanity. With the slight technological rise in weapons, the Bronze Age began the process in which humanity began to try to settle beyond the settlements they had created, finding other humans who were either just as advanced or not yet abandoned their stone weapons.

Of course, just because they found them, that didn't mean those encounters were peaceful. Humans are naturally fearful and hostile creatures so the settlements usually ended in wars and subjugation. If the leaders were merciful, then the attacked settlements might find themselves integrated in a more peaceful manner. The villages of the landmass that would come to be known as Saunus-then known as Eirome- were a hostile bunch and as centuries went by, the constant wars began to take their toll on the villages, either weakening them or making them stronger and nations began to form, either falling or rising in the process.

But no amount of strength would prepare them for the invasion that would defeat most if not all of them. The people in the eastern parts, which at the time were known collectively as Aesira, began to conquer the western parts, their mass armies and efficiency ensured that anyone who stood in their way would be quickly decimated and subjugated. Not even the strongest of nations could withstand the might of the emperor of Aesira, the mighty Empire that formed afterwards became a major superpower, the people under its rule began to enjoy the various technological innovations and the diversity in culture. This was the first time that the people of the continent were untied under one banner and though many enjoyed it, overtime the Empire's power began to wane.

The first signs of its fall were the attempts to conquer the savage lands in the north, countless men and resources wasted in fruitless attempts to further the Empire's power. In addition to that, the corruption present within the Empire and the Emperors put in charge, led to the Empire's downfall. Its nations split apart and for the next several centuries war defined the continent. Technological advances kept the wars going and blood of both the guilty and innocent was shed.

It stayed that way for two and a half millennia, empires rose and fell, nations destroyed and created. Many historical locations were either razed or preserved in the process and it seemed that humanity would be forever divided. Though this did not mean that there were no truces to stop them, during those times, iron and other metals were discovered and the discovery of fossil fuels advanced technology further and faster.

Technological marvels both made life easier and the blood shed more devastating. By the time the First Empire fell, crossbows and swords were a standard and the siege weapons like catapults were effective. When the following Empires rose and fell, they upgraded to flintlock muskets with bayonets, catapults changed to cannons. Those then evolved into rifles, capable of firing bullets further and faster, artillery was invented and wars became bloodier. Flamethrowers, automatic guns, machine guns, gas clouds and napalm became standards in wars at the time, no matter how dangerous they were.

The lands suffered, forests burned, lush jungles became deserts, beautiful sites now devastated reminders of constant wars. In doing so, the humanity did not know that they were close to their own destruction. Something sinister worked in the shadows, overseeing the devastation and death that humanity brought to itself, their laughs echoing in the unstable minds of many.

It did not stop there. After the fall of the first Empire, strange humans began to pop up, the rumors and claims making it hard to believe those stories but overtime the evidence was obvious. Humans with silver eyes, their presence so pure that those around them couldn't help but feel happy and safe. Those humans were investigated, their nature almost too sweet and happy.

But there were also people who had strange abilities, they seemed to be protected by a strange barrier and wielded powers no human should ever wield. Some could shatter boulders with but a touch, some could run faster than any other human and some had terrifying presence.

Humans are fearful creatures so these unusual humans, known at the time as 'freaks' were hunted down and killed or experimented upon, trying in vain to discover the secrets of their power. Sometimes they would be sent to the warzone to see if they could be used as weapons and some put in breeding grounds to create more 'freaks'.

But then, like a ray of hope from Gods themselves, a man rose up. A man of sheer will and drive, his ambitions great and his conviction enough to gather followers around him. His goal?

"For far too long we have been stuck in this perpetual cycle of blood and destruction. It is time to stop this needless bloodshed. Time for us to unite and become one as we are meant to be. I will stop these needless wars, I will stop all this bloodshed, I will stop all this nonsensical violence. I will bring about the age of prosperity and peace, I will destroy the warlords who wish to keep us locked in wars with each other. I will unite humanity once and for all."

With these words, this man proceeded to conquer his own nation, defeating opposition and turning it into a great prosperous land. His soldiers and followers, influenced by the man's conviction and accomplishments pledged allegiance to him. Soon the country began to expand its territory, taking the neighboring nations whether by diplomacy or by force. The other countries cared not for the man they deemed as insignificant but when he and his armies came knocking at their lands, it became clear that they should take this threat seriously.

For a decade, the man and his nation fought the armies of their opposition, taking heavy casualties but their conquests proved to be worth it. Some nations willingly joined them, seeking protection from those that wished to destroy them. After one more year of war against their strongest enemy, the growing empire finally prevailed and the last nation was under control.

With his opponents defeated and the bloodshed no more, the man showed himself to them and declared that there would be no more conflict between them, no more bloodshed. Now was the time to heal old wounds and become allies once again.

"These people suffered for long enough, their cries for help shall be answered. I will not allow any more death and wars. The time for prosperity is now."

Now that the entire continent was under his rule, he would establish an Empire of his own. An Empire where all within it would be welcome to express themselves, an empire where it didn't matter who they were, an Empire that would surpass all others.

The Empire of Eden.

This Empire was truly prosperous, decades after its formation and after culling the civil wars that appeared, the man's promises became a reality. Eden was a paradise, no one denied that at the time. Its architecture combined the beauty and efficiency of all nations, its technology surpassed anything that came before, making life easier for its residents and its military unrivalled. Plasma weaponry was the standard, ships that could fly faster and take massive amount of damage. Robots and machines replaced the outdated tanks. The resources to create all of it abundant in all the nations under the Empire's control. Soon enough, space program was established, heralded by a scientist Gali Leo, the first flight in space a huge success, the first man on the moon and finally after several decades, the Moon started becoming a colony and the mission to colonize other planets became possible.

The 'freaks' once considered sub-humans, were now respected members of society. Their unique abilities welcomed by the Emperor, the man known as Adam. Their uniqueness allowed the scientists and religious people at the time to consider them to be the next stage of human evolution. After several years, their hated name of 'freaks' changed to a different name: the unique. Their powers welcomed by many, sometimes entertaining others and at times helping push the boundaries of human limitations.

The Emperor-Adam-ruled his Empire with a firm yet fair hand. He knew that if he became complacent, the Empire would crumble and his efforts would be wasted. But the problem of conquering the northern parts remained, so he made a quick campaign to conquer the lands and where the other Empires before him failed, he succeeded. The northern lands, then known as 'Savage Lands' became part of the empire. Explorers and scientists went to explore the lands, finding new wonders and eventually making the land habitable.

But nothing good lasts for long, no matter how much one tries to do so.

The Emperor was powerful but he was still a mortal, so after so many years of conquest and ruling he died at the age of 100 years. His last years would not be spent ill in a bed though, he went on one last campaign to the west where rumors of unique people reached his ears. He found those people, hoping to extend his life a bit more, thinking he might find help from them. Unfortunately, they could not do so, their morals did not allow them to. Still, they joined the Empire and at the last days of the Emperor, they swore that they would keep it safe.

Adam's first son, came to the throne after his father's death. But where his father was wise, strong, brilliant and had an unmatched drive and will, he was but a shadow of him. He wasn't strong like his father, he knew very little of ruling, and his abilities seemed mediocre in comparison. His rule would be the defining moment in the Empire.

The other high-ranking members knew of the new Emperor's weakness and decided to exploit him to gain more power. Known as the High Lords, these men each ruled a part of the Empire, people under their rule faced high taxes, harsh treatment and cruel torture. Each High Lord seemed to a be a rival to one another and wished to gain more and more power. The Emperor's reign ensured that it was denied to them but with him dead and his son on the throne, the High Lord saw an opportunity to gain control.

Slowly but surely, the High Lords began to subtly manipulate the young Emperor, suggesting ideas and implying certain laws, giving false encouragement and trying to ensure his loyalty. Like a lost puppy, the young Emperor believed the wise Lords, thinking they would help him. All the other advisors were suspicious of them and warned the young Emperor, but the young man could not be saved. He executed the advisors when the High Lords told him that they were the ones responsible for his father's death and conspired to overthrow him. The public execution shocked many and they knew that from that point on, their lives would change drastically.

Within few years of the young Emperor's rule, people began to notice changes. First, the taxes and tax rates increased, work hours became longer to the point that workers would have to work full twelve hours to make ends meet. Those who could pay the taxes had all their belongings liquidated and their homes taken from them. The number of people living in poverty increased, farmers had to work back-breaking labor to not only make their own ends meet but also to get the required quota placed on them. Crime rate began to get higher and the number of deaths per year began to skyrocket. Naturally, in these circumstances people protested, giving speeches and riots to demonstrate their discontent. They hoped that the Emperor would lighten the tax rate or at least do something to help the homeless.

Instead, he brutally suppressed the rebellion, killing its leaders and making a demonstration of what happens to those who try to resist.

"Let this be a lesson to all of you. I will not tolerate treason, you will live with these or you will perish."

The whole scandal became known throughout the entire Empire and it shocked many at the Emperor's cruelty. Eventually, one of the nations started an uprising, their intention was to break away from the man who would no doubt become a tyrant. Several other nations followed suit, their leaders asking the Emperor to stop the madness and allow them to leave the Empire.

The Emperor responded by sending his armies to the nations, decimating the uprisings in mere months and executing its leaders right in front of the populace. He did not stop there though, he decided that the only way to prevent another uprising was to show what would await them. So he took all the high ranking members of governments of those countries and put a horrifying demonstration to the rest of the empire.

Soldiers murdered families, enslaved children, raped women and burned down buildings, the leaders had their limbs amputated and forced to watch as their wives and daughters be raped, their people tortured with the Emperor and High Lords themselves committing the atrocities as well. Four uprisings have been brutally suppressed using this method and in the eyes of the entire Empire, it cemented the fact that the Emperor has become a tyrant.

It would not stop there though, in order to ensure no one would try to make an uprising, the Emperor and the High Lords created a secret police known as 'Huntsmen', they would hide within the public and make sure no one would try to create an uprising. Through assassination, torture, brainwashing, blackmail and other methods, they ensured that anyone who dares to oppose the Empire would pay dearly.

The Emperor's madness continued to worsen, he ordered all unique people to submit to normal humans, ordered the suppression of expression and press as well as forbidding anyone to criticize the Empire and the emperor. Anyone who did would find themselves paying the price dearly as their loved ones were imprisoned, they themselves put on a back-breaking labor for the rest of their lives. He ordered the scientists to start tinkering with human genetics to create super soldiers, hundreds would be taken to take part in the experiment, many would die.

Watching all of this, the Emperor's younger brother became disgusted with his brother's actions. Their father's Empire, one that he worked so hard to preserve seemed to be falling apart by his brother's rule. Resolved to keep it safe and save its people, the younger brother decided to usurp his brother. But he was one man, he needed help.

Fortunately, unlike his brother, the young man had a lot of followers who wanted to fight by him to oppose his brother, but it would not be enough. So for the next few years, he spent traveling to every part of the empire, gathering followers and resources necessary to overthrow his brother. It was during those years that he would meet a third type of unique people. They were not like the silver eyed ones whose presence would lighten the darkest soul, nor were they like people who had extraordinary abilities. These ones had something very special: their mere presence would inspire people, their drive and conviction so strong that many could not help but follow them. If the silver eyed ones were a light in the darkness and those who had powers were a shield and sword who would protect others, these individuals were shining beacons of hope who would lead others to salvation. Led by a young woman, these people swore allegiance to the Emperor's younger brother, just as they had done to his father before.

With all his followers gathered, the younger brother unleashed the rebellion, people in many countries rising up against the mad Emperor and the High Lords, who were utterly unprepared for the sheer might of the rebellion. The rebels held strong against the armies of the Emperor, pushing them back slowly but surely to the capital. With a final assault the armies were defeated and the younger brother imprisoned his brother after defeating him.

"It did not have to be like this brother." A young man with gray hair and yellow eyes said as he stood before his kneeling brother wearing a military armor as his brother and the current Emperor knelt on the ground with a wound on his side. The Emperor looked up at his sibling, anger in his eyes.

"Fool! Do you not realize that I did this to preserve the Empire?! Do you not realize what will happen once you kill me?! These savages will tear our Empire apart! All that we have done will be for naught!" The Emperor, a man in his forties, every bit as paranoid as others made it seem. His skin is pale, his body lean to the point of no muscle. His eyes sunken and body weak as he tried to stand up.

"Preserve? What did you preserve?! You only made things worse! Torture, murder, famine! All of these could have been avoided if you just tried to think for yourself and not to those greedy scum!" The younger brother shouted pointing at the dead High Lords whose corpses lay next to the great doors.

"You don't understand brother! You will never understand! The traitors are everywhere! They want to take my Empire away from you but I will not let them! I will kill everyone if I have to keep my Empire!" The Emperor shouted as his sibling looked at him with pity.

"You have truly gone mad brother." Was all he said before punching his brother hard enough to knock him out and wrapped him in ropes. Whilst he did so, he swore he could hear something whispering in the back of his head.

"All according to plan."

With the Emperor defeated and imprisoned at the orders of his younger brother, the rebels returned home. The younger brother, now an Emperor took measures to repeal all the laws passed by his brother. For several years he worked hard to make sure his citizens lived comfortable lives and soon enough the Empire returned to its former glory. For the help that he received, he appointed the leader of the unique a high priestess and the silver-eyed people became protectors alongside those with extraordinary abilities. They pledged allegiance to the new Emperor and would ensure that the Empire remained not only strong but kept the ideals set forth by his father.

For the next decades, the Empire would continue to thrive. Several planets would start to become colonized and expand its influence. In an age where there were no worries, humanity became complacent, unsatisfied, weak.

With no enemies to fight and no burdens left, humans sought ways to find purpose in their lives. For several years, art became the main purpose but after a decade, even the arts would not satisfy people again. They sought faith in religion but not even it could provide the satisfaction they needed. So, with no other choice, people began to seek…darker pleasures.

At first they were mere pleasure dens where they would seek some fun in their mundane lives, soon those pleasure dens became cults of pleasure, with many flocking to them to find some satisfaction in their increasingly boring lives. The emperor frowned upon such cults but chose not to do anything as it would against the freedom of expression. He should have. In a year time, the cults spread throughout the Empire and every city had at least one in it. They drew in more and more people, to the point that some churches and monasteries nearly became devoid of people.

Things truly became worse when the Emperor himself decided to visit one of the pleasure cults. The whispers, the pleasures and the spice in his life that they provided convinced the Emperor that these cults would be necessary for the Empire and legalized them, shocking many in the Empire. None more than the unique. The silver eyes ones saw the cults as no good, their purity would not allow them to enjoy such pleasures. Those with extraordinary abilities saw the cults as unnecessary waste. But the third ones, those with strong will saw the cults as an antithesis of what they stood for, a sign of weakness in a once indomitable soul.

As the pleasure cults began to get more and more depraved, they became more than pleasure cults after people reported that some had people killing each other, soon this practice was now in every pleasure cult, the people in them falling further and further into depravity. Soon enough, even some of the unique began to enjoy the pleasures of the cults. The Emperor now blinded by the pleasures the cults brought ordered the scientists to splice humans and animals, when asked why he simply said:

"Just for fun."

The scientists questioned his decision and in response he threatened to imprison them, they complied. After a year of research and experiments, the scientists on the island of Death created a new type of human and brought them before the Emperor. Upon the sight of humans with animal features, people around began to jeer and laugh as the Emperor laughed to his heart's content.

"Glorious! They shall hereby be known as 'faunus'!"

The newly named humans knew that it spelled an end to their normal lives, 'faunus' an Edenian word for animal. For the rest of their lives they would be laughing stock, pets or victims in pleasure cults. Treated worse than an animal, the unique frowned upon their mistreatment but the worse would come when the High Priestess received a vision.

The High Priestess Jeanne stood in her church, her hands in a prayer wearing armor of her days as one of the leaders of the rebellion. Her eyes closed, she recited prayers, hoping that her old friend might be freed from the clutches of the pleasure cults. Her kind sat at the benches, praying with her along with the other unique.

However, when she opened her eyes, she was horrified at what she saw. Bodies littered the ground, cities destroyed and the proud monuments of the powerful Empire fallen. Jeanne stood at the center as glowing red eyes appeared in the dark, laughing in the distance.

"My Priestess!" Jeanne's eyes snapped open and she gasped as she found herself on the floor, with her kind looking at her in concern.

"What is wrong?" Her right hand man and best friend asked as he looked at her paling face.

"I had a vision. Humanity will fall." At those words, her kind looked shocked, "We need to prevent this. Stop these cults, convince the Emperor. This is our only chance."

The unique upon hearing Joan's vision, made it their mission to save humanity from the downfall that she had seen. First, they targeted pleasure cults, destroying some of them and trying to get people out. Next they tried to warn the populace of the impending doom. While they got many people on their side, it would not be enough. The Emperor heard of their actions and demanded that they come to the palace to explain themselves. When he heard their reasons though, he laughed, not taking any of their words seriously, even as Joan insisted.

"Are you sure that it isn't you and your lot that would bring the 'catastrophe' in your vision?"

A simple question, a single question was all that it took for the humans to lose all the trust they had towards the unique. People saw what happened via cameras around the palace, their faith in unique all but shattered. Their prior actions only made it seem like they wanted to ruin the Empire.

Jeanne though, after this talk had her authority as High Priestess revoked and kicked out of the capital. Undeterred by this though, Joan decided to continue her attempts. Her people followed her as they did everything they could to save humanity from the vision. But as time went on, they began to doubt her words. Her actions that she had done during the year that they spent trying to prevent the 'catastrophe' made them all doubt the vision and soon they saw that she has become paranoid.

Jeanne's vision continued to plague her even in her dreams, causing her to have insomnia and start becoming paranoid. Her paranoia made her actions all the more desperate and she resorted to drastic measures to try and save humanity. Her actions and growing insanity made her lose all the support of her people and they left her after deeming her insane.

"My priestes-no-Jeanne." Ozma, Joan's right hand man called out as he stood behind the paranoid woman. Joan turned to him, showing her disheveled appearance. Her beautiful hair is a mess, her green eyes are wide with paranoia and mistrust. Her body jittery and shaky as she muttered incoherent words.

"Ozma, you must help me. I have figured it out. We need to -"

"We need to stop!" He shouted as the woman looked startled, "Jeanne, look at yourself. What have you become? You tell of this vision and of this end of humanity yet look at what happened to you? Why do you do this?" He asked as Jeanne looked at him with narrowed eyes.

"You know why Ozma. I have seen the vision Ozmal, all of them tell of humanity's destruction. We need to prevent it." The man rubbed his eyes and ruffled his hair.

"Joan, I have had enough." At his words, she raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" Her eyes started widening as she had a slight idea on what he meant.

"Jeanne, it's time to stop. Do you not see? Your actions did nothing to stop the 'catastrophe'. You tell of your visions but you never specify what exactly is it that you see. Perhaps there is no need to save humanity, perhaps there is no end?" he proposed, hoping to make her see reason. Instead, she shook her head and went back to pray, he sighed and turned around. No one loved humanity more than Jeanne but even this kind of dedication was insane.

"If that is your wish then I won't stop you Jeanne. But know this: you are on your own now." With those words, he left her, unaware that it would be the biggest mistake of his life.

Jeanne kept on with her actions, trying her damnest to stop her visions, her paranoia reaching new levels as she began to burn down buildings, killing people and other crimes to spread her message. People upon hearing of her actions, began to give her a new name:

Salem the Mad Witch.

But after a year of doing so and being chased by the police, she mysteriously appeared before the Emperor in his pleasure party.

Xxx

"Jeanne or should I say Salem?" The Emperor asked as he stood naked next to his advisors. All of them participating in murder and pleasure activities as Joan entered the palace, looking broken and full of despair.

"Come to join us? Have you finally abandoned your foolish goal?" He kept asking as he came up to her and lifted her face by her chin, showing her blood shot eyes and broken look.

"There is no hope." She whispered as her eyes began to turn red.

"What was that? Speak up old friend." Emperor said as he lightly grazed her neck with his dagger.

"Humanity is lost. There is no hope." No sooner did she utter those words, that all hell broke loose. Black miasma began to cover her body, the intense feeling of dread, death and hatred in the air as everyone looked at the former priestess. Her body convulsing before black energy burst out of her body.

"Face YOUR DOom!" two distorted voices said in Salem's body before everything went black.

The people of the Empire were not prepared for a massive column of black energy to burst out of the palace, nor were they prepared for the creatures that followed. Their eyes red, their bodies black, full of white spikes tore through the population. The wolf like ones killing many soldiers, the scorpion ones fighting tanks and flying ones destroying their planes and ships.

In one single moment, the entire Empire was under attack by the architects of destruction, ones that followed humanity since the very first day of their evolution.

They are spoken in legends of many cultures and known by many titles, depicted either as demons or creatures of destruction. They who would one day be the downfall of humanity for humans are their creators by the simple sin of existence. They who have manipulated humanity since the Stone Age.

The twin brothers of apocalypse.

The Brothers Grimm.

Within a single month the entire Empire's population started dwindling, many dying in the battles as much as they died fleeing. The unique ones being the only ones who stood even a smallest chance to fight back, took all the survivors they could and tried to flee to every corner of the Empire, seeking shelter.

The Lunar Colony, for months left without resources began to return home to get supplies, only to be destroyed by the Grimm and their ships sunken to the ocean. The nuclear reactors left on the moon overloaded, left without people to watch over them. All of them exploded, the sheer scale of combined explosions and the chain reactions caused by the mining equipment left within the moon created an explosion strong enough to shatter half of it. The chunks either floated around the moon or some falling down to the Empire where they struck the ground, causing earthquakes and firestorms to appear.

It seemed that humanity was doomed to die and the Brothers Grimm would die along with them. For who would dare to go against this force of overwhelming darkness. Yet there was still hope, hope to save the remaining humans and faunus and give them a fighting chance.

But who would be mad enough to do so?

"Brothers and sisters." Ozma said as he stood on a rock, a weapon in hand as his people armed to the teeth stood before him.

"Comrades in arms." He turned towards the silver-eyed ones and those with abilities he could find, all of them looking worse for wear yet still ready to fight.

"We have done a great sin." He looked at the pillar of darkness still visible in the capital of the now hopeless Empire, "We have allowed humanity to become depraved and weak. We have allowed great evil to emerge right under our noses. But most of all, we have failed one of our own." At the last one, his people looked down, knowing what he meant.

"Sister Jeanne tried to warn us. She tried to save us! Tried to save humanity! And what did we do?" Ozyl looked down, a tear sliding out of his eye, "We left her, we left one of our own. Our most hopeful leader, one who was supposed to lead us to greatness and we shunned her." He looked towards the silver eyed ones and noticed that some had black sclera in their eyes. He paid it no mind.

"And now with the great evil unleashed, it is time we pay for our failure. It is time for us to give a fighting chance to humanity. Time for us to protect humanity as is our duty. We shall avenge all the fallen! We shall avenge Jeanne!" His people cheered as they lifted their weapons.

"We shall drive this darkness back to where it came from! We shall do our duty as defenders of mankind! NO MATTER WHAT!" All the unique cheered at him as he turned towards the beam of darkness.

"Now forward! For our kind! FOR MANKIND!" He charged towards the palace, his people following him.

"FOR MANKIND!" The unique cheered at once as they all followed Ozma to the battle of their life. The creatures of Grimm heard the approaching humans and all snarled as the unique began to attack them. Both sides faced tremendous power as the silver-eyed ones killed them with their mere presence, the ones with abilities used them creatively to get rid of many and Ozma with his own people slaughtered many more.

Slowly but surely, they began to close in on the palace losing many on their way but inching closer and closer to their goal.

"Victory is near! GO!" Ozma shouted as he cut another Grimm apart, nearby a group of giant scorpions fell to the combined might of ten unique. They were getting closer to the palace but the Grimm were unrelenting. Finally, they reached the palace and the source of all darkness.

"FORWARD!" Ozma cried out as he and his army entered the palace expecting to fight a monstrocity. To their greatest shock, what they saw, stopped them in their tracks. Ozma couldn't believe his eyes.

"Jeanne?"

In front of him, hovering in the air with her arms spread, Jeanne with her hair now white and eyes red with bloody tears streaming down her cheeks. She looked up at her people as they all stared back in shock.

"H-Help m-me…" She said before she cried out in agony as two wolf-like Grimm appeared out of her and charged at Ozma who dodged one and cut another in half. Grimm continued to come out of her body, in all forms and sizes as Ozma began to get closer at which point they started appearing faster. Ozma was forced to get back as Jeanne's screams intensified.

"Jeanne hold on!" Ozma said as Grimm pinned him down and tried to kill him. However it had its head cut off as woman with silver eyes helped him up.

"You will need our help." She said and he nodded. He looked back at Jeanne and rushed at her, the Grimm appearing fast, but his allies began to help him out by destroying them. He inched closer and closer and when he came with arms distance, he swung his sword at Jeanne, hoping to end her misery.

To his shock, the blade stopped an inch from Jeanne's neck and his body trembled before an unseen force pushed him back towards his allies. They caught him as Jeanne began to convulse and cry out in pain.

"What happened?" Ozma asked before a sinister presence intensified in the room. Jeanne screamed in pain again as her eyes began to glow as two shadowy beings appeared behind her. Their eyes glowing with hatred and rage as they looked at Ozma and the others.

"YoU!" Two voices said as one as the people looked at the red eyes, their bodies trembling as the eyes looked upon them.

"What are you?" Ozma asked as he looked at the eyes.

"Don't you remember?" One asked.

"WE ARE THE DARKNESS WITHIN YOUR SOULS." The other voice said in a deep tone guttural tone.

"We are the dark thoughts in your minds." The first one said as Jeanne continued to cry.

"We are THE BROTHERS GRIMM! The manifestation of all OF HUMANITY'S NEGATIVITY AND DARKNESS! We are THE VOICE THAT you try to hide. THE MASTERMINDS BEHIND your wars and MASSACRES! WE WHO have ensured the destruction OF EVERY EMPIRE That existed. WE WHO HATE humanity more than ANYTHING ELSE In existence!" The two voices said as Ozma clenched his sword tight.

"Why appear now? Why do all of this?! WHAT HAVE WE DONE TO YOU?!" Ozma shouted at them as the Brothers laughed.

"WHY?! BECause you created us! YOU ARE THE ONES responsible for our hateful existence! You are the ones who BROUGHT THIS ON YOURSELVES!" The brothers responded before looking at Jeanne, "WE WAITED a long time for THIS MOMENT! A moment when we could strike and END YOUR MISERABLE EXISTENCE! Your Empire's downward spiral ENSURED that we COULD BREAK THE BARRIER between worlds and finally exact ouR REVENGE! We are the ones who MANIPULATED THE OLDER BROTHER! To ENSURe that the younger one WOULD USURP him and BRING ABOUT YOUR DOWNFALL!" At their words, their eyes widened. Disbelief in their minds and realization in Ozma's.

"The Emperor. He was trying to protect us." He said, shocking his followers before he looked back at the brothers, "Why is Jeanne here then?! WHAT DOES SHE HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING?!"

The two brothers laughed at him.

"Foolish mortal. It was us who showed her those visions." The first brother said, shocking them, 'We whispered into her ears, we kept showing her the visions. All in attempt to break her and use her as a portal."

"AND WHO BETTER THAN THE ONE WHO LOVED HUMANITY THE MOST?! WE KNEW SHE WOULD DO ANYTHING TO ENSURE HUMNITY LIVED SO WE TARGETED HER EVEN IF SHE WAS ONE OF YOU!" Ozma raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean? What make us so special?"

"YOUR Souls ARE Stronger, PURER, you are all stronger than normal humans! YOUR EXISTENCE HAS CONSTANTLY PUSHED OUR PLANS BACK! But manipulating Jeanne was easier than we expected! OH SHE PUT UP A GOOD FIGHT AND IS STILL FIGHTING AS WE SPEAK." Jeanne's screams intensified as the brothers' miasma wrapped around her, seemingly constricting her.

"JEANNE!" Ozma shouted before he pointed his sword at the brothers, "LET HER GO!"

"Make uS MORTAL!" They replied as they unleashed a wave of darkness against them, pushing them back. Grimm appeared out of Jeanne and attacked them, killing some of them before the others killed them. The Brothers frowned, they were still not at full power due to only appearing for several months.

Ozma cut a Grimm apart noticing how the silver eyed ones seemingly effortlessly killed them. He looked at the brothers before looking at them, a plan in his head.

"LISTEN UP!" His army looked at him, "WE MUST STOP THEM AT ALL COSTS! SILVER EYED ONES! STAND IN A CIRCLE AROUND THEM!" Though they are confused the silver eyed people followed his orders, killing Grimm and standing in a circle surrounding Jeanne and the Brothers. The two brothers snared at them and tried to kill them…

Only to pull their bodies back as the combined power they had while in the circle ensured that they couldn't escape.

"Another circle now!" The other silver-eyed people and the ones with abilities formed a second and third circle around them, amplifying the power of the silver eyed ones as the brothers roared in pain.

"YOU FOOLISH-!" One brother said before the people began to glow as Ozma turned to his people.

"All of you! In a circle now!" They formed a final circle around the other two circles, their combined power of their souls amplified as they began to glow, pushing the Brothers back as their shadowy forms began to get smaller.

"CURSE you!" They said as the Grimm tried to come out but died within the next moment. Jeanne's screams overlapped the two Brothers as Ozma took a deep breath before he began to run towards Jeanne. He jumped up on people's shoulders, getting closer and closer to Jeanne as the two Brothers roared as he came closer to the bound blonde.

"ARGHH!" Ozma let out a battle cry as he swung his blade down on Jeanne. His blade rend flesh and armor as it buried deep into Jeanne's chest.

The blonde let out a gasp as Ozma looked at her.

"Forgive me Jeanne." He said as he gave her a chaste kiss. Her eyes widened as a single tear slid out of her eye.

"Ozma." She whispered before an earth-shattering roar sounded out and shook the entire palace and beyond.

"DAMN YOU MORTALS!" Both brothers roared in unison, "IF WE ARE GOING DOWN, WE ARE TAKING YOU ALL DOWN WITH US!"

Suddenly, Jeanne screamed out in pain as black energy burst out of her, knocking everyone back as the two Brothers looked at them. The ground shook as the continent began to split apart.

"DO NOT THINK THIS IS OVER MORTALS! WE WILL RETURN AND WHEN WE DO, WE WILL DESTROY YOU ALL!" Jeanne's body began to glow with dark energy as a giant hole opened up.

"Ozma what do we do?" One of the silver eyed people asked as they looked at their leader.

"We pray." He said, shocking them as he stood with his arms wide, "We pray that in the coming centuries, humanity will be strong enough to defeat them. We shall stay here to ensure that they are sealed." He said before he looked at his kind and held up a hand, "Will you join me?"

His people looked at him and then to each other before they joined him, standing next to him.

"We will." They said as they all stood on a circle around Jeanne as she began to gather all the dark energy into her. The silver eyed ones looked at them in shock before the ground shook again and half of them chose to run, while the other half stayed to help Ozma and his people.

"We must go." The leader of extraordinary people said as he turned to his people, "We must run to ensure the rest of humanity survives and teach them." They nodded as they turned to run before the leader turned towards Ozma.

"Ozma!" Said man looked at his brother in arms, "It was an honor to fight alongside you." He nodded as the man left with his kind as Jeanne began to glow brightly.

"My brother. I hope you can lead humanity to greatness once more." Ozma whispered, closing his eyes as Jeanne's body floated slightly…before an explosion of dark energy destroyed their bodies, their souls still standing in a circle.

The twin Brothers were defeated that day, but they promised to return, destroying the Empire and splitting Eden into four different continents, turning the once powerful world into a Remnant of its former self.

Most of the silver eyed people and extraordinary people did not survive the capital's destruction. Barely more than a dozen survived, but at a cost. Their memories wiped, their weapons and armor destroyed completely. With no recollection of who they were, they decided to search for civilization but the great catastrophe destroyed all nations, leaving only smoldering, unrecognizable structures and unusable technology.

Humanity with all its best minds dead and all the history and technology of Eden destroyed, survived but they have gone back to their primitive years, the satellites in orbit, fell down on the planet and burned up or blew up. Now left in the remnants of their once great Empire, humanity tried its best to survive.

Faunus, once humans, now live in their own villages and tribes, sometimes joining humans. The old ones will forever remember the shame that their name brought and thus never told the younger generations about their origins for they did not want them to be considered subhuman.

For many centuries, humans and faunus either co-existed or fought each other whilst also dealing with Grimm that remained after their masters' sealing.

Savage Lands, once a dangerous jungle, now became a frozen land known today as Atlas, its settlers used the Dust and the reverse engineered remains of Eden technology to survive and stay ahead of the other continents.

Saunus, once a home of many prosperous nations before was now an origin of a single kingdom, ruled by a monarchy, the surviving people of Ozma's kind.

Vacuo held the remains of the Empire's vast oasis, one of the last historical places, but now the oasis is no more.

Menagerie, once an island where the faunus have been created, once their torture chambers, now it is their safe haven. All the remains of laboratories are now lost to the sands of time, unreachable due to the jungles and deserts.

The power of the unique became known as Aura, its techniques spread throughout human civilizations and though the silver eyed people are now few, their powers still helped in repelling Grimm, though now they are only shadows of their ancestors.

The tectonic splitting and the presence of the Brothers Grimm destroyed the fossil fuels but left something else in their place. Dust, the remains of previous human souls crystalized, have become a valuable resource with humanity none the wiser to its origins.

Overtime, the four kingdoms have been created and with them Huntsman and Huntress academies. In the World of Remnant, humanity has reformed their civilizations. And with the right leaders, they might return to their former glory.

But the Brothers Grimm promised to return and one day they will, even now they influence the minds of leaders, trying to get them to turn on one another. Their human portal, broken now serves as their herald, her true self locked away in her own mind as Jeanne became Salem.

In the name of the two Brothers, she would destroy mankind.

A/N: Alright, I want to say first that this is just an AU. This is no reboot or remake that I think is better than RWBY right now. I don't want to say that. I just thought to myself: What if Remnant had a different history and this came to mind.

Though I am probably not continuing this idea. A bit too complex for me.
