Chapter 3: Eldritch (My Hero Academia)
"Alright, settle down all of you!" A teacher at Aldera Junior High said to his students, holding a pile of papers in one hand, "I have here all your applications to different academies. As it is your third year I would say that you should start thinking about your futures." He proceeded to grin before throwing the papers away.
"Who am I kidding here? You are all applying to hero academies anyway!" His students all activated their quirks, some creating fire, extending fingers, sprouting wings, extending noses or…eyeballs? Ew. And some sat with weird mutation quirks, like wood face or…some other weird stuff. Only two did not do so, one leaned back on his chair with his feet on his table while the other sat with a hand raised and his head buried in his arms.
"Yes, yes. You all have good quirks, now calm down. We still have a lesson." The teacher said as he slammed his hand on the table to make them stop. Although it worked and most sat down, one simply chuckled in his seat.
"Oi, teach! Don't put me alongside these extras." The blonde, spiky haired boy with red eyes said as he looked at his teacher with an arrogant look on his face, "No way am I going to the same place as these losers!" His comment had most of the class in uproar.
"Extras? Who the hell do you think you are Bakugou?!"
"You are not the only one with a quirk!"
"What makes you think you are better than us?!"
"Lay off you extras!" Bakugou said with a mocking grin while Izuku sighed in his seat as he listened to the shouts. Not the first time he heard this really.
"Oh, Bakugou. I recall you applied for U.A right?" The teacher said, looking at Bakugou's application. His comment had all the students shocked.
"U.A? The top Hero academy?"
"That's a prestigious school!"
"I heard that only a small amount of people ever manage to get in."
These kinds of chats continued with everyone amazed that Bakugou would try to apply to such an academy while Izuku looked slightly afraid.
"Heck yeah! I aced the mock test and I will breeze through initiation as well!" Bakugou said as he stood up with his right foot on his desk, "I will be the first from this school to get into U.A and I will be the best damn hero there ever was!" He declared with arrogance. Izuku, though afraid, had an urge to roll his eyes as he heard his speech. Sure, Bakugou had a great quirk that practically guaranteed him a place at U.A and he had really good grades, but there was just one thing many would find as a turn off…That being him acting like he is superior to everyone.
"I remember Midoriya applied for U.A as well." The teacher casually said. Immediately, Izuku's eyes widened as he heard that and he looked up to see all the others looking at him with either mocking looks or disbelief.
"Midoriya? What does he hope to do?"
"How is he going to get there without a quirk?"
"Why is he trying though?"
These words were shared by others with Izuku sitting at his desk and looking down at his desk. That was until…
"Deku!" An explosion right at his desk snapped Izuku out and he looked up to see Katsuki looking at him with anger.
"What the hell do you think you are doing applying to U.A?!" Izuku looked afraid as he saw his former friend standing before him menacingly.
"Answer me! Why are you applying to U.A when you don't even have a quirk!" Bakugou lifted him up by his collar, bringing him face to face.
"T-They removed that rule Kacchan. I-I only need to work hard to get into the academy." The green eyed boy replied as he saw Katsuki still having a look of anger.
"What do you expect will happen then?! Have you thought about that?!" Bakugou asked, unintentionally shaking Izuku due to him speaking loudly.
"Alright, you two break it up." Their teacher said as he extended his arm to stop the fight, "Bakugou, you know you can't use quirks here. Go back to your seat." He honestly didn't care if they fight, but the sooner he stops them the sooner he can get back to the lesson. Bakugou growled slightly before letting Izuku go and sat down on his seat with Izuku taking a seat on his own.
The lesson dragged on with Izuku paying attention half the time and checking his notes half the other time, looking at the new entries on Kamui Woods and Mt. Lady. Questions ran in his mind as he thought about their quirks, all the potential and possibilities.
Soon, the class was over, the students left with Izuku packing his stuff. Just as he was about to put his notebook in, someone snatched it.
"What's this you got here Deku?" Katsuki said as he looked at the notebook.
"H-Hey, give it back." Izuku said, trying to take it back. Bakugou pushed him away though, causing him to fall whilst he opened the notebook, chuckling as he looked at the contents.
"Hero Analysis №13? Kamui Woods, Death Arms, , what do you think you are doing? Do you hope that this will help you get into U.A?" Katsuki asked as he and his cronies laughed at the green haired boy. Izuku stood up, thinking on how to get the note back without getting beaten up, but this was Bakugou, so that would be unavoidable.
"I-It's not fun to steam from someone Kacchan. Give it back." Izuku said as he approached the blonde haired boy who looked at him blankly. He closed the notebook before putting it between his palms and activated his quirk. A small explosion happened with the notebook burning as a result, Izuku stood shocked as Katsuki threw the notebook out of the window. The blonde then went to his former friend before putting a hand on his shoulder snapping him out.
"Listen here Deku, every great hero has an origin story and I will be known as the only one from this school who made it into U.A. Now do me a favor will ya?" Izuku's clothes started to sizzle under his palm, "Don't try applying to U.A, got it?" Izuku gulped as he saw the smile on Bakugou's face. He could feel the heat from Bakugou's palm and stood in one place with Bakugou taking his silence as yes. He removed his hand, relief passed through Izuku before Katsuki shoved him aside.
"You know, if you want to be a hero so badly, why don't you swan dive off the roof to get a quirk." Bakugou said with no hesitation and with a condescending voice. His cronies laughed as they left, leaving Izuku shocked at what he said. He stood in the same place for a while before shaking his head and getting back up.
'That wasn't nice.' Izuku thought, not thinking that his former friend would ever say something like that. Still, a small voice in the back of his head told him that Bakugou wasn't a friend to him now. He ignored it and went outside to retrieve his notebook. He found it in a pond with a small duck pecking at it. He took it from the pond, shaking his head as he saw the damage and the soaked state it was in. He just hoped that the notes inside weren't ruined.
"This can't get worse." He muttered as he started going back home. Unfortunately, the universe would prove him wrong. As he walked, he ended walking into a tunnel, the manhole behind him shaking before a mass burst out of it.
"Medium sized cloak. You will do." Izuku looked back before a slimy mass covered him and he fell unconscious.
"Kid, are you alright?" An unknown voice asked an unconscious Izuku. The young boy groaned as he felt someone lightly slapping his cheek and he awoke, rubbing his head feeling an aching pain.
"Wha? What happened? I remember a slime monster and then…" Izuku trailed off as he saw who stood before him. A man whose muscular body he could not mistake and the blonde V shaped hair strands but most of all, the smile on his face.
"A-A-ALL MIGHT!" He shouted at seeing his idol in front of him who chuckled as he saw the reaction.
"That's right young man! I'm All Might! I've been looking for a villain who has been terrorizing people and found him trying to kidnap you, but don't worry for he is now sealed and neutralized." All Might said, his booming voice more impressive in live than from the screen. He showed a bottle with a slime villain in it. Izuku had stars in his eyes, he didn't know what to say as he saw his idol and the Symbol of Peace right in front of him. Then his words registered and he stood up.
"T-Thank you for saving me sir!" He said, giving a bow to the hero who laughed as he saw it.
"No need to bow, young man. I was just doing my duty as a hero. By the way, look inside your notebook." He said, confusing Izuku. The teen still looked inside it and his eyes widened seeing the big autograph in two of his notebook's pages.
"Well, young man I would love to stay more but I need to go now." All Might said as he turned around to jump, but Izuku remembered something. He had to ask his idol an important question.
"Wait." Izuku said as he ran up to the hero and ended up grabbing his pant leg just as the hero jumped away. Izuku screamed in shock as he flew in the air still holding on to All Might's pants.
"H-Hey, kid. I know you are a fan but this is ridiculous! Let go." All Might said as he saw the young man holding on.
"B-But if I let go, I will fall to my death!" Izuku shouted, causing the hero to rethink his words.
"Oh, right. Let's land on a roof." The hero said as he landed on a rooftop with Izuku falling on his back and tumbling as he let go of the hero's pants. The young boy took deep breaths to get over his shock with the hero impatiently waiting for him to regain his bearings.
"That was very irresponsible young man. Who knows what could have happened if you couldn't hold on!" All Might admonished him as Izuku stood up.
"I'm sorry! I just wanted to ask a question!" Izuku said as he looked at his idol.
"Kid, I don't really have time for questions. I really need to go." The Symbol of Peace said, feeling his time getting close to ending.
"Can someone be a hero without a quirk?" The Symbol of Peace stopped in one place as he heard the question. Izuku took a deep breath, feeling lucky that his idol at least tried to listen. He paced slightly trying to pick his words correctly.
"I wanted to be a hero my whole life, but people kept telling me I couldn't be one without a quirk. I don't want fame because I just want to help. I don't want money because that is not why people should help each other. So I ask again." While he talked, steam came out of All Might's form. Soon they engulfed the hero's form making him hard to see. Izuku turned to the hero only to see steam covering him…which dissipated to reveal a skeletal form of someone looking at him.
"Eh?" Izuku asked as he looked at the emancipated man, "Wh-Who are you? W-Where is All Might?" The boy looked around, thinking the hero left only to be caught off guard when the man spoke.
"I am All Might." He said as slight escaped from his mouth, freaking Izuku out.
"You? But how? Why? When?" The boy kept asking, trying to find an explanation while the man looked at the sweating and nervous Izuku.
"Kid, relax and let me explain." The man said as the boy looked up and nodded as he tried to calm himself.
"Believe it or not, I am the real All Might, or what I really look like anyway. You know how the people at the beach or pools pull their bellies to look buff. That's the same thing for me, I have to puff myself out to save people. Beneath the mighty form of the world's strongest hero is a true form of a weak man past his prime." All Might explained as Izuku's eyes widened. He idolized All Might most of his life and now he learns that All Might wasn't as strong as people make him to be.
"How did this happen to you?" There must be an explanation for this. 'He said past this prime so maybe he was stronger before?' He thought about trying to make sense of everything.
"Five years ago, I fought a villain." All Might started as he sat down, "He was my equal in power, speed and intelligence. It was the hardest fight of my life, I gave it everything I got and I won." He lifted up his shirt on the left side of his abdomen, "But it came at a high price."
Izuku's eyes widened as he saw a gruesome scar on the left side of the hero's abdomen practically covering more than a quarter of the man's body, the mere sight of it nauseating him.
"I lost most of my left lung, all of my stomach and my face is the result of many, many operations. Reduced to this state, doctors told me I could be a hero for a short amount of time. Exceeding it will make things worse for me." The man said as Izuku nodded.
"Was the villain Toxic Chainsaw?" As far as he knew that was the only villain that All Might faced at the time that he knew about. The man smirked and shook his head.
"Kid, that crook isn't even a fraction of the threat that the true villain that I faced that day was. Trust me when I say that you don't want to know who he is." All Might said. Izuku gulped at the thought of a villain as strong as All Might, shuddering at the implications.
"I understand that…but you still haven't answered my question." Izuku told him, dreading the answer yet still hopeful that the hero would at least tell him that it is possible.
"My answer is no, you can't." Izuku's eyes widened, his body frozen in place, "Most of us risk our lives to save people, we survive dangerous situations with the help of our quirks. I'm not sure you might survive without one, so I can't openly tell you that you can and risk having you die." The hero said, choosing his words carefully. Izuku though simply stood in one place, his mind running a mile a minute, trying to focus.
"Tell you what kid, if you care about saving people, perhaps you should try being a police officer, sure it's not really as respected as being a hero but you can still help others. It's not wrong to dream kid, sometimes you just need to be realistic." All Might said before he left the roof via the stairs, leaving Izuku on the roof. The young boy still stood in one place, hands clenched and eyes unfocused. Many thoughts ran through his head, memories of everything that happened since that fateful day at the doctor's.
'I'm so sorry Izuku!'
The tearful that brought no comfort.
'You can't be a hero.'
The words of the doctor as he stared at the x-ray of his foot.
'Don't try to reach for the impossible Izuku, you will only hurt yourself in the process and I don't want to lose my only son.'
His father telling him to stop and find a new dream, eventually leaving for overseas and rarely coming back home.
'You think you can be a hero, Deku?!'
His childhood friend turned bully the moment he found out he had no quirk.
'You can't be a hero without a quirk.'
His idol's words hurt him more than anything that others, heck more than any disappointed looks that his father could have ever given him.
'Why don't you take a swan dive off the roof to get a quirk?'
His former best friend, one whom he thought as a true hero, telling him to kill himself while he went to get a dream that he could not achieve.
Izuku remembered all of them and for the first time in his life…he gave up. If even his idol tells him he can't be a hero, then what is he supposed to do? Long and try to reach a dream he knows would be forever out of his hands? What a joke.
'You should never meet your heroes son. If you do, you will only be left severely disappointed.'
Izuku chuckled as he remembered the words his father told him. How he wished he listened to him earlier.
"Looks like you were right dad. Heroes are assholes." He muttered to himself as he decided to sit down on one of the ledges. A confusing mess of thought in his head as he thought on what to do now. He had spent most of his life dreaming to be a pro hero and doing everything he could to reach it, but what should he do now? What kind of dream should he reach for now that his old one has been so brutally crushed?
"Maybe I should try being an officer…or maybe even the army." He softly muttered as he leaned back. Unfortunately, he sat too close to the edge of the rooftop and as he leaned back, his backpack's weight and the wind dragged him over the edge.
"Wha-?" he asked as he tried to hold himself steady and tried to grab the ledge. His efforts are in vain as his finger slipped and he fell off the ledge. His body falling from the tall building, Izuku looked down to see the ground fast approaching. As he fell closer and closer to his doom, a single thought went through his head.
"Sorry mom, dad. Looks like I failed you." Soon after that, pain all over his body for a quick instant before darkness enveloped him.
Darkness.
Churning. Endless. Darkness.
Izuku floated in the abyss, his body softly passing through the endless void.
His body kept floating, until he landed softly on the ground.
His eyes looked up in confusion, wondering what this place was.
The ground beneath him shook once. Twice. Thrice.
His body started getting cold as he looked up at the only source of light above him.
He could see his breath coming out as a sudden child ran down his spine.
The light above him dimmed, its light disappearing more and more.
Finally, the darkness enveloped it, leaving no light for him to see.
"Hello?" Izuku called out, no answer.
What was this place? What is he doing here?
Suddenly, a giant eye opened up right before him, its gaze solely on him.
Izuku stood in one place, staring back at the eye as it seemed to move closer to him.
Two more eyes appeared, three…five…eight…
The eyes multiplied as massive claws appeared…jaws filled with razor sharp teeth…
Izuku watched as the eyes began to glow brightly…before the claws rushed at him…
And all that he could do…
…Is scream.
Izuku screamed as he sat up, scared out of his mind. His eyes frantically searched the place around him, relief settling in as he saw that he was in an alley and not in a dark place like in his dream. He stood up while rubbing his face with his right hand, feeling the fleshy texture calm him-
Wait, fleshy?
Izuku looked at his right hand and freaked out as he saw that his right hand had no skin at all. Only the flesh beneath is visible. Izuku freaked out wondering if he caught something. He pulled the sleeve up revealing that his entire right arm had become fleshy, the skin completely removed.
"What's going on?" Izuku asked himself as he touched his arm, feeling the flesh but didn't feel any pain from touching it. He looked at his pants and noticed that he had blood stains all over him. Confused, he looked on the ground and saw fresh blood where he had stood up. The same blood that is on his clothes and body.
"Why am I-?" Suddenly, the memory rushed to him. The villain attack the school day, All Might saving him and telling him he should be realistic. All of that and finally the memory of slipping off the ledge and falling to his death.
"Am I dead?" He wondered before he shook his head, "If I was dead, I would be a ghost and I would see my own body. So what happened?" He looked at his arm, many ideas running through his head. From things like being a zombie, a revenant to the one that he considered an impossibility.
"Do I…have a quirk?" It seemed impossible, how could he get a quirk if he died? But he had heard about how long it may take others to develop quirks and some are subtle. Did he always have it and never knew about it?
"I will need to analyze it when I get home." He said to himself as he picked up his backpack and exited the alley. As soon as he did, he hissed slightly as he saw and felt the sunny rays.
"Was it this bright today?" He wondered before he shrugged and went to his apartment. On the way home though, he started noticing something. The people he passed by began to look at him strangely, they had looks of shock and uneasiness when they saw him. He could understand it since he did have blood on his clothes, something that his mother was no doubt going to lecture him about. Still, why did they look scared as well?
'Maybe my quirk did something with my face?' he thought, wondering if it changed his appearance as well. If so then it might be a Mutation Type, which he hoped was at least useful. There was one problem though.
'How the heck do I know if I can use it?' He thought, thinking of possible ways to bring out the effects.
A loud 'Boom' in the distance caught his attention as well as many others, he turned around and saw explosions happening near a market place. Thinking it might be a villain attack he quickly went to the cause to at least see heroes in action again. He might be devastated at his dream being denied but that didn't mean he wouldn't watch heroes save people.
As he got closer to the source, he saw people gathered behind barricades and multiple pro-heroes making him wonder what was so bad that several heroes were needed. Then he saw the problem, the sludge villain from before stood at the epicenter with his limbs writhing about and letting off explosions. The last part confused Izuku, since when did the villain have explosion powers?
He looked at the heroes and saw that most of them stood still, not doing anything.
"Why aren't they doing anything?" He wondered aloud while standing next to the barricade. Didn't All Might say that they risk lives to save people?
"We need someone with an appropriate quirk!" Death Arms told his fellow heroes, while Mount Lady stood stuck between two buildings.
"Damnit! Cramped space!" She shouted trying to get out. Izuku kept looking around seeing the heroes still not doing anything, the words from before ringing in his head as he felt his faith in heroes start to crack. The villain let out another explosion, bringing Izuku's attention and he saw why exactly the villain had an explosive power.
Trapped within the slime was Katsuki, the slime controlling his body forcing him to use his quirk to try and get out of his living prison. What caught Izuku off guard though was the look on his face. One he never thought he would see again.
The look of fear.
Izuku subconsciously clenched his fists around the barricade, his right hand practically cracking and bending it. He looked at the heroes, hoping they would save him. They had to do something…He had to do something.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted All Might in his normal form, standing there…watching…not helping…
"Most of us risk our lives to save people…" The hero's words echoed in his head as Izuku grit his teeth as a determined look appeared on his face…hands clenching the barrier to the point that his left hand turned bone white and the right one started breaking the barrier.
'Save him!' a part of his mind shouted at him and he sprung into action, jumping over the barrier and rushing at the villain.
"Kid what are you doing?!"
"Get back here!"
He ignored the heroes and kept running, catching the villain's attention.
"You again!" The villain shouted at him as Izuku took out his backpack and threw it at the villain, managing to hit him in one of the eyes.
"Argh! You damn bastard!" It shouted at him as it thrashed about from pain. Izuku used the distraction to start grabbing at the slime and trying to free Katsuki.
"Deku! What the hell do you think you are doing?!" He asked with his mouth finally freed, not paying attention to the huge difference of appearance on Izuku's face.
"I don't know! My legs moved on their own and besides," Izuku gave a weak smile, which actually looked scary, "You looked like you needed help!" He kept grabbing at the slime to free him with little result.
In the crowd, All Might heard what Izuku said. His words shocked him before he smiled at the kid's words.
"I'm pathetic. I say things yet I can't keep myself true to these words." He began to emit steam and tried to puff himself up, feeling the pain of the strain on his body. He would not need to though.
The Slime Villain finally got his bearings back and looked at Izuku with mad eyes.
"You little piece of shit!" He gathered his slime back around Bakugou and covered Izuku's right hand with his slime, immobilizing him.
"You're gonna pay for that!" The villain brought out his hand to use the Explosion Quirk on Izuku who stood staring as the hand came closer and closer. Suddenly, the world seemed to slow down as Izuku felt a rush of adrenaline.
'Do you want to save him?' A deep voice whispered in the back of his head.
"What?" Izuku whispered hearing the voice.
'Do you want to save him?' The voice asked again. Izuku did not know what the voice was.
"Yes." Izuku answered as he saw the slimy come closer and closer.
'Do you wish to show that you can be a hero?' The voice asked once more as Izuku gained a determined look on his face
'YES!' Izuku shouted in his mind as he clenched his right fist.
'Then prove it! Use your power and save him!' The voice shouted in his head as Izuku felt a rush of power in his body.
"Let him GO!" Izuku shouted as time returned to normal and what happened next shocked everyone watching.
The right side of Izuku's face split apart, blood and mucus spraying about. Suddenly, slimy pink appendages came out of his mouth and shot out towards the slime villain, stopping him mid swing.
"What the hell?!" He shouted as within him, the slimy appendages grabbed Katsuki and began to drag him out. The villain shouted in pain as he felt the mucus on the appendages begin to burn him like acid. His slime still held Izuku in place and the boy felt his right arm ripple, convulse and quiver…
Before spikes emerged from it and it burst into a mass of flesh and tentacles. The spikes hurt the villain as the pink appendages dragged Katsuki out of him, the blonde panicking as he felt them grab him. Izuku jumped back as soon as Katsuki was out, his appendages still wrapped around the blonde boy. The crowd and the heroes had a first row sight to Izuku's arm stretching after the boy jumped back, his right arms still within the Slime Villain before the tentacles began to wrap around him.
Izuku instinctively stomped his right foot on the ground, everyone watched as spikes appeared under his foot, out of the ground and going towards the villain. The slime creature couldn't do anything as the tentacles still held him in place before the spikes pierced him and the tentacles grew spikes as well. The villain screamed in agony as the tentacles began to shift, combining and turning into a giant mouth with spikes acting as razor sharp teeth before it chomped down on him, silencing his screams.
The crowd watched in stunned silence as the tentacles began to go back to Izuku, his face returning to normal with his right eye permanently turned red and the right side of his face now lacking skin. The mass of flesh and tentacles became Izuku's arm again, the skin still removed, the right sleeve of his jacket and shirt ripped to shreds from the tentacles and spikes. The heroes, including All Might, stood with wide eyes and Katsuki looked at Izuku with shock and slight fear while Izuku himself trembled in one place…before placing his hand on his mouth.
"Oh god, I think I'm gonna…" Izuku hurled out slime from his mouth, the sounds disgusting everyone as they saw it.
Five minutes later, Izuku sat in an ambulance seat as the doctors checked on him while he listened to the lectures from Death Arms and Kamui Woods.
"That has to be the most irresponsible thing I have ever seen in my life!" Kamui Woods said as he pointed at the destruction, "Do you realize what kind of danger you were in?! You're lucky you have such a useful quirk, otherwise who knows what would have happened!" The wood themed hero told him as Izuku continued to vomit out a smile.
"I'm sorry." Izuku said as he finished vomiting out slime, his face slightly red from the strain, "I just wanted to save my classmate." He said as he wiped his mouth while the doctor told him he was healthy. The heroes shook their heads at his response.
"Kid, you have a good head on your shoulders, but next time don't be so reckless and let the heroes do their job." Death Arms said firmly as Izuku nodded at him while the other heroes praised Bakugou for holding out for so long and having such a powerful quirk, saying he would go far with it. Izuku felt slightly annoyed since it was Katsuki's quirk that caused all the damage but shook his head deciding not to care at this point…which was weird.
'When did I stop caring?' He thought it was strange.
"What the hell was all that about anyway?" Izuku wondered to himself recalling the events of the fight. How was he able to do all of that? How did he know what to do? What the hell was the voice from earlier?
"Deku!" A shout snapped him out and he turned around to see Katsuki marching up to him.
"Kacchan?" A voice in the back of his head told him to stop calling him that, for his former friend did not deserve that title. He shook his head as his classmate got right in front of his face.
"I want to make something clear, I didn't need your help and I wasn't scared!" He grabbed him by his collar, the green haired boy's right hand twitched while his right eye glowed, "Next time let the heroes do their job, you damn Deku!" he shoved him away and went home while Izuku stood in one place before sighing and continuing his way home.
'Is he even my friend at this point?' he thought, remembering how they used to be friends. Although now that he looked back, he could hardly call it a friendship and more like him following Katsuki after he gained his quirk like he was some fanboy.
'Then there is mine.' Izuku looked at his arm, wondering what exactly his quirk could do. From what he had seen, the Transformation type would be the most obvious answer but that didn't explain the spikes from the ground or him healing after falling from a building. Just what the hell was his quirk?
"There you are!" a booming voice stopped him in his tracks. He looked up and saw All Might standing in front of him, "I have been looking for you!"
"A-All Might?! What are you doing here?" Izuku asked, wondering what the hero wanted.
"HAHA! Young boy, I came here to – Blagh!" A violent bloody cough turned the muscular hero back into his original form as well as stopping him mid-sentence. He didn't let that stop him and wiped his mouth, "I came here to apologize for my earlier words, correct my mistake as well as give you an offer." Izuku raised an eyebrow at him, still feeling depressed after his words.
"I'm listening." Izuku replied as the hero cleared his throat.
"During the incident, back with the Slime Villain, when all the heroes stood and just hoped for the best, a simple boy rushed in to help save the hostage."
"You said it yourself: 'Most of us risk our lives to save people'. Yet I saw you stand there and not even help right after you told me those words." Izuku replied to him, not happy with how he just let things happen. It felt weirdly satisfying to see All Might look ashamed and guilty, for some reason.
"Yes, I should have done something and held myself true to my words. Tell me though, when you went to save the boy, am I right in saying that your legs moved on their own?" Izuku nodded, "You know, the best heroes of their time had these kinds of moments in their origins."
Izuku's eyes widened at what he heard, 'No way, is he saying that…' His hands trembled as he heard the hero.
"I am here to say…"
'Why don't you take a swan dive off the roof to get a quirk?' The taunting words still in his head as Izuku clutched his chest with his right hand, feeling anger coursing through him.
"…Izuku Midoriya…"
'It's not wrong to dream kid, but sometimes you have to be realistic.' All Might's earlier words, combined with the hypocrisy from earlier further adding to the flames.
"You can be a hero!"
'People will only respect those who have powerful quirks Izuku. Without them, you are basically a nobody. They will not hesitate to try to befriend you and act as if nothing is wrong when you awaken it, such is the nature of our world, son. They care not for who you are, only for the power that you have.'
His father's warning words two years ago before he left for work ran in his head and Izuku snapped his head up.
"SHUT UP!" He shouted, stopping All Might mid sentence and partially scaring with how his voice changed.
"Eh? What are you-?!" All Might was cut off as he saw the angry look on Izuku's face. Coupled with his red eye glowing dangerously as well as him missing skin on the right side of his face made for a scary sight.
"Don't you dare say anything!" Izuku said as he clenched his fists before pointing a finger at him, "First you tell me my dream is unrealistic, that I shouldn't try to be a hero and now that I saved an ungrateful asshole and did your job for you and have this quirk, you suddenly turn around and decide to say otherwise?! Well, screw you then! Whatever offer you have, I refuse!" he said, making the hero back away from the sheer hate and anger in Izuku's voice.
"But-young man, I-"
"Save your excuses for someone who cares." Izuku told him as he pushed past the hero, "I'm done idolizing you and the rest of the heroes. I will be a hero my own way and I will not let anyone stop me. Not even you. Goodbye, All Might." He gave a glare at the hero as he said the last sentences and left the Symbol of Peace, frozen in place. The moment that Izuku glared at him, Yagi couldn't help but feel a sense of dread.
Not helped by how Izuku looked like a monster when he shouted and glared at him. One that made him look like a toddler.
'Looks like I messed up big time.' Was all he could think as the sun set behind him.
Inko Midoriya paced in her kitchen, occasionally looking at her clock and nervously biting her nails. Not long ago, she had seen her son rush to save Katsuki from a villain, which already made her nearly have a heart attack. But when she saw his body shape and turn in the middle of the battle, she nearly fainted. Now she waited for him to come home.
'What is taking him so long?' she thought, thinking he may have gotten into trouble on the way home. Her thoughts are interrupted when she hears a door to the apartment open, she went to the hall and saw Izuku getting in the house, closing the door and taking his shoes off. She gasped as she saw what happened to his face and arm, but what shocked her more was the angry-tired look on his face. He took a few steps before seemingly collapsing on one knee and trembling.
"Izuku! Are you ok?!" She asked him as she rushed to his side, and embraced him in a hug. He didn't respond, only breathing heavily which worried her.
'Izuku, are you ok? What happened to you?" She asked as she put a hand on the right side of his face, only to recoil when she felt a burning feeling on her palm.
"I-I-" Izuku tried to say as he clenched his right hand. Bloody tears came out of his right eye and dripped to the floor, burning the wood.
"Izuku?" Inko asked again as to what happened. She tried to hug him again but couldn't fully hug him due to his right side burning her every time she touched it.
"I-" Deep inside him, a feeling of anger held back all those years burst through his emotional barrier, "Fucking hate them!" He slammed his right fist on the floor, breaking it and startling his mother.
"I-Izuku?" Inko asked, concerned never hearing him curse before or look so angry.
"I hate them all! I hate Bakugou for tormenting me for all these ten years!" he slammed his fist again, breaking the floor more as his tears kept falling, damaging the floor further.
"W-What? Why would he do that?" Inko asked.
"Cause I was quirkless, a defenseless little deku that he could bully because he had a powerful quirk at his hands. I thought that if I gave him time we would be friends again. But I guess since he told me to kill myself, that doesn't seem likely anymore." He said, shocking Inko with his words.
"I-Izuku, it's okay. We will talk with the teachers, perhaps they will-"
"Good luck, they know all about it and they just looked the other way because they don't care. 'Why should we care for the complaints of a quirkless' they always say, right after I get beaten by Bakugou and sometimes by other students." Izuku began to chuckle slightly as he clenched his fists.
'What? How-How dare they?!' She thought as anger coursed through her, her quirk flaring up and some of the smaller objects began to float.
"You wanna know the worst part? On perhaps the worst day of my entire life? I met All Might," that shocked Inko and snapped her out of her anger, causing the objects to drop, "he saved from a villain and I asked him a question. Do you know what he said?" Inko shook her head, but she had an idea on what he could have said.
"He said no. He said that a quirkless person couldn't be a hero and told me I should be realistic." Izuku let out a low chuckle as he gripped the floor with his right hand, cracks appearing on it.
"Izuku…" Inko had tears coming out as she heard that. To hear that his dreams could not be achieved by the person he idolized…
"But then I got my quirk and after I saved Bakugou he said he changed his mind and wanted to give me an offer…I…I refused and told him to go to hell…" More bloody tears came out as Izuku chuckled and punched the floor again, breaking it even more.
"Why?! Why did I do that?! Why was I such an idiot?!" he shook as Inko tried to comfort him but his right side still burned her. She still hugged him nonetheless, feeling her skin burn from the contact while his tears kept dropping, still burning the already damaged floor.
After a minute, Inko looked at her son.
"Izuku, listen to me. You are no idiot. You can be a hero now, if All Might and others say otherwise then they are fools. You just need to train with your quirk, work hard and-" She got cut off as Izuku began to laugh, his body shaking.
"You never said that when I asked you that day." He muttered and Inko barely heard him.
"W-What?" She asked as Izuku looked at her with a broken smile, which made him look scary.
"When I was four and I found out I couldn't have a quirk, I asked if I could be a hero without a quirk and you just cried and kept saying sorry." He stood up while his mother looked shocked at what he said, "You never believed in me afterwards, didn't support me but NOW after TEN YEARS when I finally have a quirk, you decide to change your mind?! You say that I can be a hero?! Where were those words when I needed them ten years ago?!" He clenched his hands and Inko backed away from her son who seemed to look scarier and scarier.
"Izuku, please I-I just-" he began to laugh as he gripped the wall, leaving a crack.
"You know what dad told me when he visited two years ago?" He asked and she nervously shook her head, "He said that others will not hesitate to try to befriend me, support me or know me if I had a powerful quirk, even when they made clear they wouldn't if I had none. That they wouldn't care for who I am, only for the power that I had. I can't believe that you, my own mother, can be one of them." Inko's eyes widened at what he said, disbelief that her husband would say that.
"Izuku, no, you misunderstand-"
"No, leave me alone. I don't want to talk much less look at you. Leave me alone…Inko." Her words widened as he said her name and stormed to his room. She heard the door slam and tears appeared on her face as his words echoed in her head.
"Izuku…" She muttered as she sat down on a couch, 'Hisashi, please come back. Your son needs you…we need you.' Her husband might be the only one who could help them now.
Izuku slumped as he sat on his bed, head resting on his hands, his thoughts a confusing mess as he recalled what happened.
"What is with me today?" He wondered, eyes closed and a headache appearing. So far the day has been one of his worst, he gets humiliated at school, his ex-friend tells him to commit suicide, he meets and gets his dream crushed by his idol, falls off a building and gets admonished for trying to help. The only good thing being that he finally had a quirk…but what exactly was his quirk?
Izuku lifted his head up and went to the mirror, seeing his reflection staring back at him and his eyes widened upon seeing what he looked like now. His right hand traced his right cheek down to the right side of his neck, seeing the burned looking flesh, feeling no pain even if he should. A thought occurred to him and he took off his upper clothing to see if it was true. His eyes widened again seeing that not only was his arm and face affected but the entire right side of his body, he took off his pants seeing the same thing with his right leg, he looked inside his boxers and seemed relieved that his groin was okay.
"What happened to me? Is my quirk responsible for this?" He wondered aloud as he sat down on his chair. His right hand in front of him, he inspected it before remembering what he did to the slime villain.
'How do I do that again?' he clenched his fist, trying to repeat the process. He focused on his arm, flexing the muscles but nothing happened. He tried to pull it to see if it would stretch but once again, nothing happened.
'What now? Do I just say, spikes?' Right as he thought that, spikes burst out of his arm, startling him and spraying some blood on the floor. Izuku looked at his spike covered arm and moved it around, even touching the spikes and feeling how sharp they were.
'Tentacles?' The arm quivered before bursting into fleshy tentacles, they waved around in twitchy motions as Izuku tried to control them, which felt weird. Each tentacle felt like a finger or at least part of a finger. He then thought about his face and decided to try out another ability.
'What would be a word to activate it though? Tongues?' The right side of his face split up as slimy pink appendages appeared again, moving like his tentacles. He tried to control them and felt like using multiple tongues.
'Alright, how do I stop this? Return to normal?' His face and arm returned to normal and he smiled at this development.
"I can be a hero, finally I can be a…hero." At the word, Izuku thought back to all the heroes, including All Might. It made him ask a question: Who is a hero?
The boy thought back on all the heroes and all he remembered was how they all seemed to use flashy moves just to look cool when they could have just ended a fight without any delay or damage. Not to mention how some seemed to like being celebrities and if today was anything to go by was that quirks are all that mattered to them.
But what is a true hero? Someone who saves people and gets praise? He remembered how his father was critical of many heroes when they saw them on TV, often outright dismissing them.
'Heroes of today are nothing like how they were depicted back then Izuku.' He remembered the words when he was eight, 'Look at anyone of them and you will see not a brave, selfless person but an attention grabbing celebrity who is more concerned with beating someone rather than saving them. That is not heroism, it's just a flashy battle. To be a true hero is to risk your life to save someone and get nothing back in reward, only the smiles and looks of happiness. Remember that my son, and never idolize the wrong people.'
But All Might was always the one who saved people with a smile right? He is a true hero.
'All Might is but one person, son.' The words came back again, 'People look up at him like he is a god and his powers are great, but like everyone else he is just a man and will lose one day. He is a true hero yes, but his actions brought consequences that plague the society ever since he debuted. As far as many are concerned, power is all that matters, and he ended up being their confirmation.'
"Power is all that matters." Izuku repeated, as he thought back on his life and realized how right his father was. Ever since Katsuki awakened his quirk, he has been praised left and right for how powerful his quirk was, so much that most of the school let his bullying and horrible attitude go without punishment, especially against him.
Well, no more. No more would he stand Katsuki's bullshit, no more would he let others put him down, he will become a hero - a true hero and he won't let anyone stop him.
'But first,' he thought as he looked at his door, 'I need to apologize'. He stood up from his chair, dressed up and left his room. He went to the kitchen and saw his mother preparing dinner, he nervously walked up to her.
"Mom," He said, wincing as he saw her flinch in fear, "I-I'm sorry for what happened earlier. I shouldn't have shouted at you, I shouldn't have accused you. I was just so-so…overwhelmed with what happened today that I-"
"It's okay, Izuku," Inko interrupted as she walked up to him, "I'm sorry as well. I-I should have at least tried to support you that day, I should have done more than just cry and apologize." She smiled sadly and looked up at him, "But I want you to know that I fully support you, no matter what. I will be proud because I know that you will do your best…like you always do." Izuku smiled and hugged his mother. Inko hugged him back, slightly surprised that she didn't feel burned by his right side, instead feeling a warm, calming feeling.
"Thanks, mom. I appreciate your support." He looked at the table, "Do-Do you want me to help with the table?" She nodded and he helped her set up dinner. As they ate, Izuku thought of something.
"Mom, can you help me move all of my hero stuff?" He asked, shocking her.
"Why? Don't you want to keep it?" He shook his head at her.
"After what I learned today, I can't stand looking at it all anymore. I'm not sure if I can control myself without breaking most of it." She nodded at him as they continued to eat their dinner.
Izuku put away the last of his All Might collectibles on a box, using a tape to shut it tight. His hands shook slightly as he took a deep breath and sat down on his bed. His mother stood by his side, along with other boxes that held all his All Might and hero related stuff. Posters, collectibles, photos and even blankets and curtains have been removed, replaced with plain colored ones.
As the young boy looked at his room, he only now realized how much he let himself obsess with heroes, to the point that he had no other passion other than hero related stuff. His barren room reminded him of that perfectly, to the point that he wondered if he even had other dreams or back up plans in case things went wrong. Only now realizing how unprepared he was to the harsh reality.
'You have a passion for heroics Izuku, one that burns brighter than my own fire, but you delude yourself too much. When everything will go wrong, you will realize far too late how unprepared you are.'
Only now realizing how unprepared he was to the harsh reality, Izuku sighed and rubbed his face.
'How far would I have gone till I realized that? In my adulthood reflecting on all the wasted years? When I'm working my ass off at some mall or convenience store to pay my bills?' He thought, before he stood up.
"I will – I will go for a walk to clear my mind. Is that okay with you mom?" He asked and she nodded.
"I think it will be good for you. Just don't be late for lunch and don't forget your phone." He nodded, taking his phone and leaving the house. Inko remained in the barren looking at all that belonged before sighing to herself.
"It seems like he took your advice Hisashi. I wish you would return sooner." She said to herself before leaving the room and deciding to clean the house.
'What am I supposed to do now?' Izuku thought as he walked in the city, no direction in mind. His appearance had many stops of surprise almost as if they recognized him. Given what happened yesterday, it was no surprise.
'I need to start a plan to test my quirk, whatever it is. I would need a big open space though where I can use it, some targets wouldn't hurt either but a junkyard is out.' He thought, not seeing how a small portal appeared before him and he came out of the other side in a Dagobah Beach. That is, until he nearly tripped over a large piece of metal and snapped out of his thoughts.
"What the? How did I get here so fast?" He looked back and saw a disappearing portal behind him.
"Did-Did I make that?" He thought, wondering how he did it. He looked at his arm, wondering if it was responsible.
'What is up with this quirk?' He thought about trying to figure it out.
"Yen for your thoughts?" A voice behind him said as Izuku turned around to see All Might in his normal form wearing a trench coat.
"What are you doing here?" Izuku asked, wondering what the hero could possibly want.
"I just came to talk, if you do not mind young Midoriya." Yagi replied to him and Izuku narrowed his eyes before he sighed and sat down on a broken AC.
"What exactly do you want to talk about?" The hero sat down on a chair opposite to Izuku.
"Yesterday, I wanted to give you an offer," He raised a hand as he saw Izuku about to refuse, "I know what you will say but please let me finish." Izuku nodded.
"Young man, have you ever wondered just how am I so powerful?" Izuku nodded at him.
"Everyone does. Speculations for your Quirk are all over hero sites, forums and even other sites Laddot, Facebio, or even dumpster fires like Quacker. All speculations at least lead to Amplification, Psychokinesis or outright stating that you have multiple quirks." All Might visibly flinched at the last one, prompting Izuku to raise an eyebrow, "What, don't tell me that you actually do possess many quirks." Yagi rubbed his neck and stood up.
"Not really, my quirk is extremely unusual." He cleared his throat and coughed up some blood before continuing, "You see Young Midoriya, my Quirk is called One for All and it is a Quirk that can be passed down from one person to another. Its most unique aspect is that it is actually two Quirks merged into one. The second power that it has is the ability to use stockpiled power." All Might explained, Izuku's eyes widened slowly as he realized what it meant.
"You aren't the first user aren't you?" The hero nodded at him.
"I'm the eighth user of One for All. The reason why I'm so powerful is because those who used it before added their own power when they received One for All, the stockpiled power grows more and more until the current user is stronger than any man on the planet." Yagi finished his explanation as Izuku looked down in thought as the memories of yesterday came up to him.
"So you wanted to talk to me…because you wanted to pass your power down to me?" The Symbol of Peace nodded at him, "But why? Why me? Surely there are others who can do better than I can or people with better Quirks?" All Might shook his head at him.
"This is not about power Young Midoriya, I want to give this power not because of your Quirk but for what you did. Like I said yesterday, you proved that you are more than worthy when you went and tried to save that boy, your intentions were pure…" He paused as he looked at the burns, "although you might need to work on your Quirk, because it is scary." Izuku rubbed his head at that.
"Truth is I don't know how it works, I accidentally fell off a building that we talked on yesterday after you left," The hero's eyes widened at that.
"So you awakened it before you fell to your death?" He asked hopefully, but it was dashed when he saw Izuku shake his head, "How are you alive then? A fall from that height should have killed you." Izuku shook his head as he looked up.
"To be honest, I don't know. I found myself in some dark void, facing some giant monster with eyes, tentacles and teeth and the next think I know, I'm lying on the ground with blood stains on my clothes and half of my body having these burn like scars." The boy replied, hands clasped together as he remembered yesterday.
"You are telling me that you gained a Quirk after you died?" All Might asked as Izuku nodded at him. The hero sat in deep thought as he remembered the events prior before looking at Izuku.
"Young Midoriya, do your parents have quirks that resemble at least anything that you displayed yesterday?" Izuku shook his head.
"No, my mom can attract small objects while my dad can breathe fire. I thought I might get either of the two or maybe a pyrokinesis but I was told that I couldn't have a Quirk due to a joint. How convenient that it appears right after I died. I assume it has regeneration because my arms and face keep going back to normal but I could be wrong. Then again, I only awakened recently so I'm not sure. There are also my grandparents and other ancestors who may have passed it down or my Quirk is a Mutant type that keeps giving me powers on the fly cause I learned that I could teleport. The last one sounds like a bad story plot and would surely be ridiculous but we have Quirks like yours that-" All Might sat in his seat, weirded out by Midoriya's mumbling.
"Young Midoriya, you're mumbling." Izuku snapped trance, putting a hand over his mouth and looking embarrassed.
"S-Sorry that tends to happen when I learn about Quirks." He explained as Yagi nodded.
"I see, well I believe there is a way to see how your Quirk works." The man said before he pointed at the trash surrounding the beach.
"You need to try it out on the trash here. With no one around, it would be a great way for you to try out what you can do." Izuku looked at the trash before looking back at the man.
"Why are you helping me? What can you hope to gain from this?" All Might looked up at the sky.
"I was just like you. I wanted to be a hero at your age, but people kept telling me that it was impossible. Then I met my teacher, she told me that I could be a hero in a time where I was told so many times that I couldn't. I want to help you achieve your dream Young Midoriya. I want to help you…because I know that you can be a great hero." All Might replied as Izuku looked at him for a few moments before he smiled.
"Thank you. It-It means a lot to me." Izuku said before he turned to the trash, "I guess I should start with light training if I want to master my Quirk as soon as possible." Izuku said as he rolled up the right sleeve of his shirt. Spikes burst from his arm as Izuku reared it back, his eyes set on a broken fridge.
"Let's do this!" He ran at the fridge and tried to punch it…
Only to end up tripping on his face.
"Wha-What just hap-" Izuku looked down and saw that his right leg had tentacles appearing out of it and one of them tripped him.
"Wh-Why did they appear on my leg?" He pointed at the tentacles with his right arm and to his surprise, launched one of the spikes dangerously close to his foot. He freaked out before his split up and his 'tongues' appeared again. All Might looked at the boy and sweat dropped.
"Seems like you have a lot to do if you wish to master your Quirk." He commented while Izuku tried to return his limbs back to normal.
Yagi Toshinori yawned as he went to the Dagobah beach. For the last ten months, Midoriya has made considerable progress with his Quirk and training. Every piece of trash removed was a step closer to getting in the U.A. Every physical progress made him closer to reaching his goal. He helped as well, giving Izuku a diet to help build muscle and a training regime to strengthen his body.
"I wonder if he finished it." He muttered to himself and as he arrived at the beach, his eyes widened at what he saw. The once littered beach is now clean, spotless to the point that he couldn't even remember how it looked ten months ago.
'He-he cleaned it all! Even the small things!' He thought with an open mouth. He looked at the trash and saw Izuku at the top of the pile panting but standing proud, his upper body exposed, showing the skinless right side of his body.
Izuku himself stood looking at the dawn, an overwhelming urge rising in his chest as he smiled before he took a deep breath and looked up.
"Aarghh!" All Might felt himself shudder as he heard the shout/roar that Izuku did. The sound of a nearly guttural roar and a teenage shout of triumph both amazed him and shuddered him.
"This kid…" he muttered smiling as Izuku stopped roaring/shouting and slowly but carefully climbed down from the trash pile as Yagi walked up to Izuku. The teen turned to him and gave him a tired smile.
"I-I did it." He said with a thumbs up as All Might nodded.
"You sure did, Young Midoriya. You exceeded all my expectations. Look here." He took out his phone and showed a picture of Izuku ten months ago, "This is you ten months ago that day. Now look at yourself."
Izuku looked at a nearby mirror and his smile widened as he saw his reflection. The boy saw the defined muscles and hard abs that he worked hard to achieve. His burns spread started spreading bit by bit to the point that almost half of his body was now without skin. He considered it a good thing, it meant that he had more control over his Quirk.
'Wow'. He thought as he turned back to face the hero.
"Thank you for your help All Might. I-I don't think I could have done this without your help." The hero smiled at him.
"You're welcome Young Midoriya. You might now want to idolize heroes anymore but it doesn't hurt to accept help from others." Toshinori said before deciding to change the subject, "Are you sure you don't want to inherit One for All? You can still change your mind."
Izuku looked at the hero and looked up deep in thought, he then looked at his arm before turning to the hero, his mind made up.
"I'm sure. Your Quirk may be powerful but I want to be a hero my way All Might and I don't think I can do that if I have a Quirk like yours. Maybe you should look for someone else?" He suggested and the hero nodded.
"Well, I will respect your decision Young Midoriya and you have my support." He replied 'Maybe I should try Nighteye's choice?'
"Well, I gotta go now. See you later, All Mi-Toshinori-san." Izuku said as he put on a shirt and left the beach, waving at the hero.
"Ready for today, dear?" Inko asked her son who stood at the door and prepared himself for the important day.
"Yeah, today I will see if my hard work paid off." He said as he put on his backpack and shoes and went to leave, "See you later, mom."
"Good luck!" She called out and he nodded at her as he went to the U.A grounds.
Ten minutes later, the boy stood in front of the gates, gazing at the building, a smile on his face.
'Well, this is it. Now or never.' He thought as he walked towards the entrance before feeling a hand on his shoulder and getting shoved aside.
"Out of the way, Deku." Katsuki growled at him as the blonde boy marched up to the doors with Izuku narrowing his eyes as he saw his classmate…
Izuku walked to his school, yawning after a long day of training his body and Quirk. As he entered and walked the halls, he couldn't help but feel eyes on him. Looking around, he saw that others either looked at him or started gossiping about him. He raised an eyebrow but shrugged and continued on to his class. Things weren't better though with his own class now gossiping about him.
"It's Midoriya."
"Why is he here?"
"Have you seen his Quirk?"
"What kind of Quirk lets him do what he did?"
"How did he awaken it?"
"What's wrong with his face?"
Izuku felt weirded out by the whispers but also slightly angry.
"You know, if you want to know, maybe you could just ask?" He suggested and they all silently stared at him for a few moments.
"Deku!" a loud, angry voice shouted as a hand slammed down on his desk.
"Oh, hi Katsuki." Izuku replied, feeling mild anger as he saw the blonde boy, "Did you want something?" He didn't know why he acted so calmly, maybe he finally gained confidence?
"Oh, I want something alright! I want to know what kind of game you are playing!" He grabbed Izuku by his collar, "You think you are so cool just because you have a quirk? You think it's funny to make fools of us by tricking us into thinking you don't have a Quirk?! Have you been holding back you little shit?!" Izuku felt the boy shake him while shouting in his face.
Were this to be a week ago, he would have started stuttering or trying to make excuses, but the anger he felt at his former friend pushed those fears away as his right hand grabbed Katsuki's. The blonde boy looked surprised before feeling a burning sting where Izuku grabbed him. Everyone could hear a light sizzling sound as Izuku looked at Katsuki dead in the eye.
"Let's get a few things straight Katsuki." Katsuki raised an eyebrow, slightly surprised that Deku stopped calling him by his nickname, "I never played any kind of game on any of you. No, I don't think I'm cool because of my Quirk. Why should I when you and the others won't respect me anyway? No, I never tricked anyone, I only recently awakened my Quirk so don't even think that I have been holding back. If that were true, I would have tried to defend myself before. And if this is about me saving you, well sorry about that, I guess I should have left you at the villain's clutches where you would have suffocated and died." The boy said, calm on the outside, but mildly panicking on the inside.
The class had looks of surprise hearing the usually timid and stuttering boy, respond so calmly to Katsuki. The blonde himself glared at Izuku before he wrenched his hand free, his eyes widened as he saw a burn mark where Izuku grabbed him.
"So you got a Quirk, big deal. I can still beat you." He said as he scoffed at him, "Besides, do you really think that U.A would let someone with a villain's Quirk into their Academy? You might as well give up because you are not getting in no matter what." Bakugou said, turning to get to his own seat.
"Then why would they let you?" Izuku asked, stopping Katsuki in his tracks.
"What did you say, Deku?" Katsuki growled as Izuku glared at him, his right eye glowing.
"Why would U.A let you in then? If I have a 'villains' Quirk as you say why should they let you? Your Quirk isn't any better, in fact one could say that it is a villain's Quirk as well. Explosions hurt, they destroy, they kill. What makes you think your Quirk isn't a villain's Quirk as well? Because you wield it? That's actually even worse you know?" Izuku replied, right hand on his desk. The students could see smoke rising out from his palm where he touched the desk.
"What's that supposed to mean you shitty Deku?" Katsuki asked as he came up to Izuku's face.
"It means that you are a bully who thinks he is special because you have a powerful Quirk. You've been praised so much by others that you can't comprehend the fact that there might be someone better than you or that you might lose. You're lucky you know that? You won the Quirk lottery by having a mix of your parents' Quirks, everyone thinks you will be a great hero but I know better. I know that you are just a bully who only wants to be the best. You think that everyone likes you because of who you are? They all like you because of your Quirk and are afraid to say anything because the 'big man' might beat them up. The entire school ignores your bullying because of your Quirk, if you were involved with something bad then they would all start acting like they don't know you or ever been with you. You don't matter here Katsuki, your Quirk is what matters and if you were Quirkless like me or had a lesser Quirk no one would treat you like you are special." Izuku said, without missing a beat. The class looked shocked that Midoriya of all people would say all of that to Katsuki.
The boy himself stood with wide eyes before they narrowed and an angry snarl escaped from his throat as small sparks appeared in his hands.
"You little shit! Who do you think you are?!" Spikes burst out of Izuku's hand as adrenaline rushed through him.
"Alright, quiet!" The teacher came to the room and slapped the two students in the head, stopping them.
"There will be no fights in the classroom and no use of Quirks! Now sit down!" Katsuki growled as he sat down while Izuku sat on his own seat and slumped.
'That was close.' He thought as the teacher started the class.
Katsuki has tried several fights with him but the teacher or All Might who happened to be around always manage to stop them before any fights occurred. Still, he would be lying if he said that he didn't feel anger or annoyance at the blonde.
Shaking his head, Izuku went to the entrance, ready to take the exam.
"Welcome everyone to the practical test! Say YEAH!" A silence was his answer as the Voice Hero: Present Mic stood at the podium. Izuku had to admit that he liked the positivity that the hero had.
"No? Alright then, listen up! There are several zones, which you will be put in. In each zone there will be robots. You must destroy robots to gain points. Each robot has different points," A presentation appeared showing three different robots, each with a number.
"These points are one two and three. There is a time limit set so I advise you all to now waste time listeners." Izuku nodded as he looked at the presentation. Others beside him either looked confident or nervous depending on a person.
"Excuse me!" A tall boy with glasses stood up, a pamphlet in hand, "The pamphlet here clearly states that there are four types of robots yet we only see three. Such an oversight is disgraceful for a school like U.A" Many looked at the boy, realizing he made a point and looked back at Present Mic. The hero though simply smiled.
"Nice observation kid. Let me explain, there IS a fourth type, however it is worth nothing and you should try avoiding it altogether." The tall boy nodded.
"I see, I apologize for my rudeness." He sat down.
"Well if there aren't any questions then that will be all, now get to your zones listeners! Do your best, Plus Ultra!"
Izuku stretched as he stood in front of a gate, now dressed in sport clothing. His track suit is wrapped around his waist so he stood wearing a white shirt. His right arm is visible to everyone as it rippled, convulsed and bled slightly while Izuku stretched his legs and arms.
"Excuse me!" a voice said and Izuku looked to the side to see the tall boy from before, "I'm sorry to interrupt you but should you be in the exam with such serious burns and bleeding?" Izuku blinked and looked at his arm to see it bleeding slightly with the blood dropping to the ground.
"Oh, it's fine. Thank you for your concern but this is just a side effect of my Quirk." He explained as the boy raised an eyebrow but nodded nonetheless.
"START!" A sudden loud voice said, catching them off guard, "What are you waiting for? There is no timer in the real world! GO! GO! GO!" They all rushed inside as the gates opened with Izuku being slightly faster than the rest.
As he ran into the fake city, the boy saw robots come out with weapons deployed.
"Target locked." One of the robots said as it shot rubber balls at him. Izuku dodged them as his arm rippled and spikes burst out. He swung his arm and shot out harpoon like tendrils at one of the robots. The tendrils pierced the metal before they dragged Izuku who destroyed the robot with a spiked right leg.
He jumped up and shot spikes from his arm at another robot, destroying its head before he shot a tendril at the third and made spikes on his foot. The tendril pulled him down and he landed on the robot's head, destroying it.
'Alright, that's seven points. I need a lot more though.' He thought as he continued on, his arm rippling as an eye appeared near the elbow.
"Well, it seems that we have quite the crop this year." A mouse-bear-dog-whatever thing said as he sat in his seat in the teacher's lounge observing the students.
"Agreed, quite the students for this exam." A female voice said as she looked at the various screens.
"Yes, it seems that most possess the skills necessary to pass the test." Toshinori said, sitting in his seat, "But the true test has begun." He pushed a button while seeing Izuku helping out a kid out of the rubble.
Izuku helped a trapped boy up and went to look for more robots. Suddenly, the ground shook as a shadow fell over the city. Izuku looked up and his eyes widened at the sight of a giant robot coming at them and stomping through the streets.
"H-How did they afford this thing?" he asked before seeing others flee the area and turned to leave, "Might as well do the same, no point in destroying tha-"
"Help me!" He froze as he heard a voice behind him. Turning around, he looked for the source and saw a brown haired girl stuck under rubble and another girl trying to help her remove the rubble. As the robot got closer, Izuku rushed to the two.
Toshinori smiled as he saw that, "There is one trait every hero must possess."
Izuku's arm burst into spiked tentacles, the tendrils grew in size as he came closer to the robot who reached out to the two trapped girls.
"Come on!" One of them said as she tried to remove the rubble. The arm came close and closer…
Before it stopped completely as fleshy tendrils burst out of it.
The two girls looked up and saw a green haired boy with his right hand turned into tentacles, which pierced the robot's arm and now completely wrapped it up. A determined look on his face as he stood shielding the two.
"AARGH!" Izuku roared as hundreds of tendrils burst out of the right side of his body, all of them going to the robot. Within seconds, they had completely wrapped the robot and pierced its body in many areas. The two girls and everyone else in the area had their eyes widened as they saw what happened next.
The flesh tendrils began to take shape in front of the robot while the tendrils grew spikes, piercing many of the machinery inside the robot. The tendrils formed a lump of flesh that opened up to reveal a row of razor sharp giant teeth. The giant mouth tore into the robot, ripping its head off and tearing it apart. Metal parts and bits flew around the area as the giant mouth then threw the robot up towards the sky with tremendous force and a giant eye appeared inside the mouth.
SKREEEEEEEEE
A screeching sound came out before the eye shot a blast of energy at the air bound robot and once it collided, it destroyed the robot. The small parts that survived fell down onto the fake city, thankfully not hurting anybody.
Everyone was left speechless as the fleshy mass reduced in size and returned to Izuku's body. The boy grimaced uncomfortably as his arm and body became normal, an urge rising in his chest as he threw his head up.
"AAAAAAGGGHHHHH!" And let out a mix of a shout and a monstrous roar from his throat, hands clenched. The rest felt themselves shudder as they heard it, the roar so loud that even those beyond the testing grounds heard it. They looked up to the source wondering who made the roar.
Izuku panted as he stopped roaring and slumped slightly, his right arm now changed as the fingers now had claws while the exoskeleton-like material covered it from shoulder to fingers. He then looked behind him and saw the two girls that he saved looking at him in shock. He looked beyond them and saw the others looking at him in shock as well.
"Do you…need help?" Izuku asked the girls, panting as the two snapped out of their shock and nodded. Izuku grabbed the rubble with his right hand and helped push it off and got the girl out. Just in time as a bell sounded out.
"TIME'S UP!" The voice said as Izuku breathed a sigh of relief and relaxed, putting his hands on his knees.
"Okay, okay, let me check up on all of you." An elderly voice said as the Recovery Girl came out and gave everyone gummies and checked up on them.
"Well, you three do you need help?" One of the girls, an indigo haired girl with phone jacks on her earlobes pointed to the brown haired girl.
"I think she needs help." Recover Girl nodded and went to the girl before kissing her ankle. The girl's eyes widened as she felt her nausea subside and her leg stop hurting.
"What about you sonny?" the old heroine asked as she turned towards Izuku who shook his head.
"I'm fine, I just need to rest." He said and the heroine nodded but gave him a gummy, "Thanks."
The teachers sat shocked at the events that transpired, even All Might sat shocked at what Izuku had done.
'Young Midoriya, what IS your Quirk?' he thought, seeing the power it held.
"Who is the kid and what's with his Quirk?" A gruff male voice said as he looked at the screen.
"How…interesting. Let's see here." Nezu said as he looked at files, searching for the right one.
"Ah, here he is. Student: Izuku Midoriya. Quirk: Eldritch. The Quirk's powers can't be comprehended, the abilities are beyond scientific reasoning and any attempts at understanding them will only lead to contradictions. Imagination is the only limit." Nezu read out-loud, his eyes wide as well as the rest of the teachers.
"Holy shit." All Might said, realizing just what this meant.
"Yes, it seems we have a very unique case here." Nezu said as he rubbed his chin.
"So are we letting him in? Seems like a dumb idea really." Midnight asked, wondering what to do.
"He has shown to be a hero material but we need to keep an eye on him. Place him in Class 1-A. I think he will be a great addition to the class." Nezu said, eyes set on the file.
'This year will be interesting, no doubt about it.'
TO BE CONTINUED…
A/N: Alright so I know that there is a fanfic 'Worm that dorks' that already did something like this but I wanted to do it differently. I will probably come back to write a sequel chapter for this.
So what do you think? Leave a review.
Thanks for reading this chapter and until next time. See ya.
