Chapter 1: Life Is Weirder Than I Thought
"Rosaleen!" Dad walked into my room, with his pajamas on and his dark hair a mess, "Wake up sleepyhead."
I sat up and yawned, "Dad, I'm too tired" He smiled and sat on my bed.
He reached over and started tickling me, "Awake now?" He laughed.
I pushed him away. When I stopped laughing, I said, "I guess." He got off my bed and left the room. I got up and got ready for school.
I looked at a picture of me and Dad. I sighed, wishing I got to meet Mom. She died when I was born. I would do almost anything to meet her.
I ran out of my bedroom door and gave my cats Sadie and Muffin some food. Basically, my dad told me some stories when I was young, and they involved a girl called Sadie, and she had a cat called Muffin, who turned out to be the Egyptian goddess of cats. I named my two cats after them because they were two of my favorite characters.
I went into the kitchen, where my dad was making toast. I grabbed a piece, said goodbye to Dad, and ate my toast while I walked to school.
I had a feeling today was gonna be decent.
Boy was I wrong
Once I got to school, I looked around for my friends Casey Prince and Oliver Denver. I spotted them by the stairs. I started towards them when a voice said, "Going somewhere Rosa?"
I turned around, rolling my eyes. Standing in front of me was Chase Dawson. He was grinning, looking down at me. His dirty blonde hair was standing up. He was wearing the same outfit he does everyday(which obviously is not hygienic): A white shirt with a denim jacket, black jeans, and white Adidas.
See, Chase had a crush on me in 6th grade. One day, he came out to me, and asked me to be his girlfriend. I told him no because I didn't like him that way, and he's been bullying me, Casey, and Oliver ever since.
"What do you want, Chase?" I said, and his friends Alex and Mason Bawford, who were twins, started snickering.
Chase snapped his fingers and they stopped. He then grinned and said, "Why Rosa, I just want to talk!"
I was about to say something when Casey walked over. He frowned and said, "Leave her alone Dawson."
Chase's grin melted into a frown. He'd gotten into fights with Casey before, and he doesn't look anxious to repeat it. He said, "Go away Prince. I'm trying to have a friendly talk with Rosa."
I saw Casey bring his hand up. I walked in front of him, "Casey, he's not worth it." I touched his hand and smiled.
He brought his hand down and looked at Chase, "Don't talk to her again." I then led him to where Oliver was standing as Chase, Alex, and Mason started laughing.
Oliver was short and scrawny, but he made up for it with bravery. His dark brown hair was curled and sticking up. His dark brown eyes were full of worry. He had crutches because there was some sort of disease in his legs.
When Oliver saw us, he stood up straight, "Guys is everything all right? I would have helped but Casey told me to stay here."
I smiled, "It's fine Oliver." I looked at Casey, "You idiot. Rushing to "save me" by yourself."
Oliver burst out laughing and Casey rolled his eyes annoyingly while I imitated a princess in distress.
"Can we go to class now?" He asked, obviously wanting me to stop. Me and Oliver laughed as the three of us walked off.
Most of the day was boring. Third period was hilarious because Chase slipped on some water on the floor and then fell in the trash can. But things really went downhill in Fourth period…
Fourth period started out boring as usual. My science teacher, Mr. Landler, taught us how to dissect a frog. At the end of class, Mr. Landler said, "Miss Walker, stay here."
Oliver was about to protest, but I said, "Guys, it'll be fine. I'll meet you outside. He's probably just gonna give me a lecture." Oliver mumbled something, then Casey brought him out.
Once everyone had left, Mr Landler got up and closed the door. He turned to me and grinned. I started to get uncomfortable, so I said, "You needed me?"
Then the weird part happened. His head grew into what looked like a cork. And his body… his body…
A memory came to me. When I was about 8, my dad told me an Egyptian story about 2 siblings, Carter and Sadie Kane. They were Egyptian magicians and they traveled many places, saving the world. He mentioned demons. He described them as having weird heads.
But they're fake! My teacher…
Oliver then burst into the room. In his hand was what looked like a bronze dagger. They both launched into a full scale fight. But he didn't have his crutches. Or pants. Instead, where his pants were supposed to be, there were goat legs. Furry, goat legs.
Casey ran into the room behind Oliver and grabbed my arm. He told me to go under one of the desks, then he climbed under another desk. I couldn't see his face, but Casey was obviously scared. He was shaking.
I heard a high pitched scream and saw the demon dissolved. I crawled out from under the desk, stomped over to Oliver and yelled , "What the hell was that?"
He scratched the back of his head nervously, as if he's explained this many times. "We should talk to your parents."
Casey crawled out from under the desk, not looking very happy, "How about you tell us why that… thing was attacking Rosa, and where that thing came from-" He pointed to Oliver's legs, "-and why you have goat legs?!"
Oliver sighed, "I'll explain everything, but when your parents get here." He picked up the teacher's phone hesitantly, and dialed my dad and Casey's mom.
