Chapter 2: I Live in a Dam Fairytale

Once Oliver finished talking on the phone with me and Casey's parents, he put on his pants, grabbed his crutches, and brought us to my car. Me and Casey were asking him questions the whole time, but Oliver kept saying "I'll explain when we get to Casey's house."

When we arrived, I saw my dad's car outside, but I paid no attention to it. I stomped up to the front door, Casey and Oliver not far behind, and knocked. Emily, Casey's mom, opened the door. She smiled, "Hello children. We need to talk." She let us in, and quickly glanced outside, then followed us into the living room.

I saw Dad sitting on the couch. He sat up straight once he saw us. He said "Rosa, come sit down. We must talk."

I walked over nervously and sat down next to him. Emily looked at Dad and said, "Damian, try and take it slow with her."

Dad nodded and Emily, Oliver, and Casey walked out of the room. Dad turned to me and said, "Remember those stories about Carter and Sadie Kane?"

I nodded.

He sighed, "Well, those stories are all true. I even trained with Carter and Sadie. I was one of their college initiates in Brooklyn. We're both descendants of the Egyptian pharaoh Hatshepsut."

To prove it, he pulled out a stick that looked like a wand, and said, "Ha-di." A glass cup shattered into pieces. He then pointed at the shattered pieces and said "Hi-niem" and the shattered pieces joined together and looked like the cup again.

I stared at him in shock as he slipped the wand into his bag. He looked at my face and laughed, "Rosa, I know this is hard to believe, but it's true. Remember that test in 1st grade you told me about? You said it was really hard, but your brain helped you? That was Hathor, the Egyptian goddess of love. She helped you whenever you needed it. Try talking to her."

I wanted to object, but I decided to try. I thought, "Hathor? Are you really there?"

"Hello dear." Another voice said. "Good to finally be able to communicate with you."

I scrambled back and yelled, "What the hell? Am I dreaming? I must be." I closed my eyes and pinched myself.

When I opened my eyes, I was still on the couch. Dad looked at me, "You aren't dreaming." He pulled out a special wand and put it in my hands, "This is for you. It will help you, and so will your friends."

Just then Oliver, Casey, and Emily walked out. Casey's face was pale, as if he had a weird conversation with his mom. I doubt it was weirder than mine.

Emily smiled, "Well, you three better get going." She kissed Casey on the forehead and Dad gave me a hug.

"Come back anytime." He said. "You'll be safe here."

Oliver laughed nervously, "Well, let's go guys."

We walked outside and got in my car. Ca

sey asked, "Where are we heading?"

Oliver smiled, "New York. Long Island, specifically."

I didn't say anything. It wasn't the weirdest thing I heard all day. I mean, we live in Florida, so it was pretty crazy.

I leaned back and started to fall asleep, when Oliver said, "So Rosa, how was your talk with your dad about the Greek Gods in Manhattan?"

I sat up straight and yelled, "What?!"
