Waverly Earp is now a happily single Virgo with hair for days and her idea of a good time is to go to Karaoke night at Shorty's bar. The town of Purgatory is not known for its fun, but when it comes to Karaoke night, that's a tradition that has been going on for the past five years every Wednesday. Drinks are at half price, the pool table gets turned into a beer pong, karaoke is jamming all over the place and Gus makes her famous meatballs that simply go with everything. It's the biggest night for Shorty's surprisingly, not even Saturdays get so packed.

The first call Waverly made was to Nicole Haught, the deputy sheriff of Purgatory. The line rang twice and then Nicole's sleepy voice was heard on the other side. NH: "Waverly, hey! Is everything okay?" She looked at her clock realizing it was 11:20 am. This was her first day off in two weeks. WE: "Hi, Nic! Sorry! Did I wake you?" Nicole smiled over the phone not minding the interruption at all. NH: "That's okay. What's up?" Waverly wanted so badly to curl up in bed with her new favorite officer, but she shook the thought away.
WE: "I wanted to see if you want to join us for Karaoke night. I know you're still a bit new in town and don't get out much because of all your work, but it could be fun. Unless you don't want to because you're tired and I'm just bothering you on your day off instead of letting you get your rest..." Nicole loved how adorable Waverly sounded rambling, but she had to interrupt her. NH: "Waves! It's okay, I would love to. I'll see you tonight?" Waverly sighed in relief. WE: " See you tonight Nicole."

Waverly called every one of her friends and asked them to join her at Karaoke night. The last call she made was to Wynonna Earp, her eldest sister. She didn't feel like having her drunk sister ruining the night, but she knows she will be happy that she dumped Champ Hardy (a sorry excuse for a boy-man). With some hesitation, Waverly dialed Wynonna's number. WY: "Hey, baby girl!" WE: "Hey Nonna! Guess what?" WY: "You finally found the courage to dump nine seconds?" Wynonna referred to when Champ broke the record for the longest time spent riding a wild bull. Waverly frowned. WE: "How did you know?" Wynonna sighed in frustration. WY: "Champ has been going around saying you have gone crazy saying that you're done and that you will come crawling back to him. Ugh! It's taken everything in me not to punch his face into oblivion, but I wanted to check with you first." Waverly laughed. WE: "He's not my boyfriend anymore so go ahead." WY: "Thanks, baby girl! Anyway, other than the REALLY good news, did you want to tell me something else? Maybe invite me to something? Hmm." Waverly scowled. WE: " I can never get anything past you can I? How did you know?" WY: "Nope! I crossed paths with a certain redheaded deputy who was looking for something to wear for Karaoke night with Waverly. She really likes being your friend lol." Waverly thought about asking Wynonna if she approved of Nicole, but she knows Wynonna hates police officers even though she practically is one now. WE: "Yeah, I like her too. I mean, being her friend. So, are you joining us?" WY: "Hell yes! Karaoke, free drinks, and Gus' meatballs, I'm so down!" WE: "Um Wynonna, you know the drinks aren't free right?" WY: "But we're family." Waverly could feel Wynonna pouting over the phone.
WE: "See you then sis!"

At 9:15 pm, you could hear the music pumping outside of Shorty's bar. It had reached maximum capacity, but there were still people partying in the parking lot and at the nearby stores. The beats of "Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish were the first thing Waverly heard when she joined the gang at the pool table. Big Nose Kate, known in town for being a tarot reader and somehow being accurate, was feeling the music as she and Wynonna sang the chorus, and the rest of Shorty's chimed in. " I'M THE BAD GUY!"

WE: "Hey guys! So glad you are all here to celebrate MY FREEDOM!" Jeremy Chetri, the town's mega computer geek, was the first to speak.

JC: " WHAT! You finally dumped his ass?" He gave her a shot of whatever it was he was drinking and Waverly downed it.

WE: "Yup! He was too much of a boy man for me. I need someone who gets me and doesn't shut want to 'shut my brain off." Stephanie Jones, one of Waverly's closest "friends" looked disapprovingly.

SJ: "You know Purgatory has limited dating options and not everyone wants to date an Earp." Waverly shot her a look that could kill. " No offense."

WE: " Oh I have options I just don't want to jump into a relationship just yet." Chrissy Nedley, the sheriff's daughter, chimed in.

CN: "OMG, stop being so serious! We came here to celebrate!" She went over to the bar and ordered five margaritas. She almost spilled the drinks when one of the customers bumped into her. "Hahaha, here you go ladies and gentleman."

An old song by U2 was heard on the speakers and suddenly a redhead in a beautiful red dress started singing "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For". She was looking straight at Waverly. Wynonna, who was lost in the crowd, suddenly appeared mouth open.

WY: " Is that Nicole?" Waverly was too stunned to speak. Nicole sang her heart out as the crowd joined her in the chorus as well. The next one she sang was "Sweet Dreams" and Shorty's Bar turned into a disco. Waverly had never seen a disco ball when she worked her shifts, but it dropped as if out of the ceiling.

When she was done singing the crowd erupted in screams and Gus Gibson, Waverly and Wynonna's aunt, got up on the small stage that was set up on Wednesdays.

GG: "I'd hate to be the one to follow that girl, but who's ready to keep the music pumping?"

WY: "I'll go!" Wynonna finished her whiskey and got on the stage. "If you haven't heard this song or watched this movie, you guys suck balls!" 'Surface Pressure' by Jessica Darrow started playing on the speakers.

The next song that played was 'Pursuit of Happiness' and the crowd moved closer to the stage as if this was an electric music concert.

Wynonna dropped the mic on the floor and feedback could be heard all over the bar. Gus rushed to pick it up.

GG: "Damn it Wynonna!" Wynonna looked away sheepishly.

WY: "Sorry Gus..." Gus sighs.

GG: "Can someone calmer take the stage for a bit?"

WE: " I'll go! Lots of celebrating to do." Waverly felt the lyric 'There's Nothing Holding Me Back. She was finally free, not just of Champ, but of the pressure.

She didn't want to let go of the mic so she picked the song 'New Rules' by Dua Lipa.

GG: "Thank you so much Waverly for that lovely voice of yours. Ok everyone food is now being served. We will keep the music playing and if anyone wants to come up on stage please try not to blast our ears off while we enjoy my famous meatballs and more. Remember Karaoke Night is every Wednesday soo please keep joining us every week with new music and new voices don't matter if you sing well or not! We are just here to have ok?"

The crowd cheered and started moving towards the bar to get some food and more drinks to wash it down. Chrissy decided to get up on stage knowing that people would be too distracted to actually listen to her sing. She choose the song 'Home' by Phillip Phillips because she was feeling a bit nostalgic.

The couples in the crowd started dancing and Nicole took the opportunity to talk to Waverly.

NH: "Hey! How are you feeling?"

WE: "Honestly? Ready for what comes next! I'm not sure and that is scary, but I like it. Keeps me on my toes."

NH: "Whatever you need, I'm here." 'Woman" by Doja Cat started playing in the background.

WE: "Thank you! Right now all I need is for you to join me on the dance floor!"

The whole gang danced the rest of the night away. they helped Gus kick everyone out and cleaned the bar for the next day which was normal. The same thing happened every Wednesday, but this one seemed different for Waverly as she waved goodbye to Nicole who was heading home. She sighed contentedly.

WE: "Let my life begin."
