Chapter 12 "Going Home"
Amanda
A clamorous noise sounded when a large Vulcan man with shiny black hair and a short bowl haircut scanned my Federation passport. I hadn't been paying attention, but the sound hurt my ears with a loud high, pitched reverberation that alerted me out of my daze. The three-day journey to Vulcan was tedious, and space travel affected me. Straight away, my head began to pound steadier as I fought off a migraine. My stomach also felt nauseated, and I felt a little weak.
I was eager to see Sarek as it had been a month since Ben Walker's wedding and three weeks since he left for his home planet. He alone decided to speak to Skon about our courtship privately during a family ceremony for his nephew's coming of age celebration. I knew that it was probably best for Sarek to discuss the situation with Skon alone. My presence would just aggravate the condition. Disappointed, I remained on Earth and waited for Fiona to deliver her baby.
However, I joyfully stayed with my brother and exhausted sister-in-law. I babysat my nieces and assisted her as much as possible until baby Robert Wyatt Grayson, Junior, made his appearance two weeks ago. The little one had his mother's beautiful green eyes and Grayson's thick head of hair. I doted on him and my nieces as much as I could as I enjoyed my time on Earth with my family.
My new contract teaching full-time with the Academy wouldn't start for another week. I longed to see Sarek and become his wife. We agreed to marry in Vulcan and Terran ceremonies to honor our families. Earlier, Sarek educated me about the ceremony, koon-ut-kal-if-fee, usually officiated by a Vulcan priest or priestess.
"I apologize, miss. I cannot allow you to enter, " a tall Vulcan unnamed man informed.
"But why?" My confusion grew when the unknown man did not answer, and the thumping in my head worsened. I felt that I was losing my patience, and that would not persuade the Vulcan to assist me any faster. Instead, he would dismiss me as "an emotional human." I took a deep breath in and exhaled it out for a moment.
"This seems highly irregular," the man stated, raised his eyebrow, and scanned the passport. Next, the boisterous sound occurred again. Covering my ears with my hands, I irritatedly inquired,
"Sir, can you explain why I cannot enter the Vulcan Embassy?"
The man strolled away with my Federation passport to speak to a supervisor.
Five minutes later, a shorter Vulcan woman explained,
"Miss Grayson, your visa to work in Vulcan has been revoked."
"How is that possible? I work at the Academy as a teacher," I loudly cried.
"I don't have the details, Miss Grayson. The computer says that you cannot enter Vulcan," the lady crisply stated.
When I asked to see the computer screen, I saw my Visa picture materialize onto the screen with oversized letters with the words "REVOKED" on it. Outraged, I asked the two Vulcans with my hands on my hips the next course of action since I was stranded here.
"I would speak to someone in your Embassy. Regrettably, it is closed for the day," the woman sternly replied.
"But-I-what am I supposed to do now?"
The Vulcans didn't offer any solutions, and I grew more exasperated.
" Can I make a call? I demanded.
"To whom, Miss?"
"Ambassador Sarek," I snapped, my eyes narrowing in anger.
The lady did not appear to believe that I knew Ambassador Sarek or T'Pau when they forced me to reveal with whom I would attempt to communicate.
Although I was allowed to make calls, nothing came from it. My former boss, the sub ambassador, didn't answer, nor did Sarek when I attempted to call his private line. Finally, I called T'Pau and explained the mishap, and she argued with the other two Vulcans and even threatened their jobs.
"T'Pau, would you please talk to Sarek? I tried all of the lines I have for him here," I wept out of frustration, sorrow, and the damn thumping in my head.
"Yes, I will try to find him expeditiously."
"Sarek, where are you?" I telepathically sent a message to my beloved.
Meanwhile, I curled up on a sparse sofa. After checking my watch, I saw that I had nine hours until the Earth Ambassador's office opened. Shutting my eyes, I attempted to meditate the pain away until I fell asleep.
