"Come over?"
"lol. Bored?"
"Extremely."
Manhattan was quiet tonight, ironically on the night she'd invite the noise. She'd do anything to hear the loud traffic noises of honking cars and police sirens. She'd even enjoy one of her dad's old dusty board games right now; but her dad was out tonight so she was home. Alone. With no entertainment.
She bets the Team was having loads of fun right now.
At least Cecily was coming over. Tommy couldn't come -per her dad's rules- so only she was coming. A positive in her opinion. At least she wouldn't spend the whole night drooling over the football player.
Her phone buzzed from its spot beside her, muffled by the dark blue comforter on her bed.
"ETA: 5 minutes."
Zatanna sat back and watched the seconds tick by. She already had the spread set. A jumbo bowl of popped popcorn, three different bags of family sized chips, and two liter sized bottles of soda. All that was left was the company.
She often keeps her window open. She prefers her room to be cool and she lives on one of the top floors and she has blackout curtains so she wasn't afraid of anyone peeping in on her. It was a still night, not an ounce of wind to be felt, but a lone breeze swept across her curtains.
"Boo."
"Ahh!" Popcorn flew everywhere as the bowl of the buttery goodness clanked to the floor and Zatanna jumped into a defensive position. Robin grinned and watched as the realization kicked in and cackled when the brunette slapped him on his shoulder.
"You prick! A little warning would've been nice!"
"Bats don't do warnings," He smirked.
"Bats can still get turned into actual bats."
"Noted." He held his hands up in surrender. He looked around the room. "Nice set up. Kind of messy though. I don't think popcorn is meant to be on the floor."
She raised her hands in the air. "Eaelc sroolf." The popcorn disappeared in a poof of smoke. "Now I gotta pop some more popcorn."
"Were you planning a party?" Robin walked to the middle of the room as Zatanna took a seat on the edge of her bed.
"No way. My dad would never allow that. More like a small gathering."
The door from downstairs shut.
Crap
"Hey, Zatanna. I got the movies and everything! Time to- woah!" Cecily came crashing through the door to her bedroom. Her expression was a given for someone who sees a superhero standing in the middle of her best friend's bedroom.
"Well, good golly, Miss Molly." Cecily slowly shut the door behind her
Zatanna laughed nervously. "Uh, Robin, this is Cecily. Cecily, Robin."
"HI."
"Hi. I uh, already know who you are. But I would love to know how you know my girl, Tanna."
"Dick?"
"Cecily? What's wrong."
"I heard you were looking for Zee. She's at my apartment. Just crashed on my couch. Fast asleep."
"Thanks Cecily."
"It's been a tough night for her. Be careful with her, Grayson."
"Yes ma'am."
The brunette came over soon after Dick texted her. She was about to alert the boy of her whereabouts when she saw the tears. She immediately dropped her phone and pulled her friend into a hug.
"What happened? Who do I need to go beat up?"
Her laugh was shaky at best. "Have I ever told you I love you, Cily."
"Yes. Multiple times. Now, back to me beating someone up."
"No. No. You don't need to beat anyone up."
"Okay, so is this one of those shove ice cream into our mouths and cry type of chats or one where we rag on the person because they're totally trash?" Zatanna shut the door behind her with her foot and the brunette led the two of them further into her living room.
"I think I'm completely done with dating." Zatanna flopped back on the couch and Cecil curled on the couch beside her, rubbing her bare feet on her leg in her show of support, silently laughing when she shuddered away from the touch. "What is with you and rubbing your feet against people?"
"Not people. Just you, Tommy, and mom. And besides, your pants feel really soft." She rubbed them against her pants rougher to emphasize her point. Zatanna laughed as she tried to scoot away from the playful attack.
"But back to the point, I hope that means you're done dating trash individuals." Cecily said once her friend settled down. "And I hope you'd give me a warning if you mean you're done with boys."
"What? Are you offering? But Tommy would be so disappointed."
"Of course not. But you could also move to the lovely island of Themyscira, find you a nice island beauty and live happily ever after eating the fruits off of the trees and freshly caught fish with your Amazon sisters."
"I'm not really an island kind of girl," Zatanna laughed.
"You're not a lesbian type of girl either. Besides, you'd miss men too much, and I wouldn't have anyone to fawn over them with."
"You're terrible."
"Ah, but that smile is back. Which means that I can breech onto another topic. Dick's looking for you."
Her smile drooped a little and she averted her eyes to an adjacent wall. "I know."
"Did something happen?" Cecily sat up from her lounged position. Cecily knew Dick long enough to know those two were attached to the hip. At times she would catch them just staring into each other's eyes and smiling, like they didn't even need words to understand what the other person was saying. They just knew. She would say they were cuter than her and Tommy if she didn't think they were the perfect couple already.
They made each other laugh. Dick absolutely adored her and she adored him. She just doesn't understand that herself, and that's where the problem usually lies.
"I haven't opened the message yet. You can crash here until you're ready. Mom wouldn't mind."
"Thank you."
"Lemme go get some blankets." Cecily pushed herself off the couch and walked towards the hallway to her room to find some spare blankets. Before she disappeared down the hall, she looked back over her shoulder at her friend. "You're going to have to stop running some day. Those track shoes are going to wear out eventually."
Zatanna curled up tighter on the couch. "I'll trade them in when that day comes."
