In the end, we ended up loosing three people in total due to the Mad Beast. Two from the initial attack and one from the injuries suffered.
The other hunters managed to escape with light injuries, but some will have scars and one man even lost an arm due to the beast. This is truly the worst way possible to end a day.
As for my fellow Nuns, it turns out that all twelve of them decided to go and take a break and bathe at a lake not far away from the church. All twelve of them, even though they have shifts in guarding the perimeter in groups of six through the night.
Needless to say that Father Henry is furious.
"-If it wasn't for Sister Ataraxia always being available, I fear how many people would have died if she didn't take it on and kill it herself!" I simply stood back with a frown on my face as Father Henry berated my fellow Nuns, his face flushed from anger and his breathing quite labored.
"Father, please calm down." I rest a hand on his shoulder as I pull him back gently. "You'll worsen your health if you keep going." I remind him gently, guiding him to one of the benches within the Church as he takes slow and deep breaths.
"Thank you dear…" He sighs as he takes a seat while I merely smile warmly as he pats my hand, his gentle smile soon going back to a glare as he turns his gaze to the still kneeling Nuns. "A break… All twelve of you together." They were supposed to take turns in guarding the perimeter, first one group of six, then the next, followed by me taking over for the entire day like usual. Yet they didn't follow through with it.
"It's not like we knew a Mad Beast would attack." One of my fellow Nuns, Anna, mumbles aloud beneath her breath, making me flinch slightly as Father Henry takes in a sharp breath. She just had to open her mouth…
"Is that what I taught you? To make excuses?" They all flinch as Father Henry grips the side of the wooden bench hard enough to crack it. "When you make a mistake, you apologize and make sure not to repeat it again. Not make excuses. You patrol the forest and village exactly so to avoid that such things happen!" The man hisses, before clicking his tongue and leaning back as I stand by him, awaiting to be questioned or dismissed.
"Mad Beasts can be considered Low Class in power, yet you killed it without injury." I flush slightly under Father Henry's pride-filled smile. "You've improved a lot my dear, I'm proud of you." I lower my head to hide my flush, yet I can't help the large smile that spreads across my face. Step by step I'll be able to become more useful, and one of the first things I want to learn is Healing Magic.
I hate how the only thing me and Father Henry could do for all the inured was simply bandage their wounds. I remember hearing about a certain Holy Priestess that can heal any and all wounds from Sister Griselda back when I was still training under her, though I don't remember if it's her innate magic or a Sacred Gear.
"Sister Ataraxia, take the week off. Your fellow Sisters will cover for your turn, and theirs, for the entire week." I blink while my fellow Sisters pale, but none dare voice their thoughts, especially me. A week off is wonderful for my training, I should be able to grow a lot stronger through the week, especially if I push myself.
"Thank you Father." I bow in thanks, but he merely waves me off, making me sigh softly with a small smile. He can be quite harsh when mad, but he truly means well.
If only my fellow Sisters stopped indulging in Sin…
"You can go now dear. You've done enough tonight." I nod and give Father Henry one last bow, then one towards my fellow Sisters before excusing myself and exiting the church to start my walk home.
Before I went to fight the Mad Beast, I was actually quite tired. It was night and I had just gone through a long training session, but now… now I'm brimming with energy. And I think I know why.

Level – 10

Sacred Gear – "The Mind Of God" Ars
Law Mastery (Initial):
Law of Fire – Rank E
Law of Water – Rank F
Law of Earth – Rank F
Law of Wind – Rank F
Personal Abilities:
Mana Core – Rank F
Weapon Mastery – Rank G
I have gone up a full nine Levels after taking out the Mad Beast. I am a bit disappointed it's not more, but it's always better than nothing.
I was too focused on sending a quick prayer to God for the poor Mad Beast to notice the sudden surge of energy that I gained when I killed it, but right now I feel… strong. Though I dunno how much I have improved, I'll have to check it out once I get back home.
But I do know I have improved other things.
[Fireball] (3/10)
[Spear Swing] (3/10)
[Fire Stream] (2/10)
Creates a stream of fire with negligible power.
Another Skill that'll surely be useful once I Level it up some more, but I'll need to focus on my weapon Skills more first. The Mad Beast was stupid, but I won't have such luck in the future, so it's best I have enough power to actually pierce my opponents skin.
Strangely enough I didn't get a skill for the quagmire I created to trap the beast, but oh well.
I hum softly as I stretch my back, then narrow my eyes in thought. I need to know from where that Mad Beast came from. I'd rather not have any more such surprises, especially if it'll cost the lives of innocent people.
My eyes soon fall on the charred corpse of the Mad Beast. I frown and approach it, then crouch down and raise it's head. There is no necklace wrapped with a cross wrapped around the neck, which means it's not one of our villagers. We already checked those that are awake, but I'd rather be very sure.
The necklaces the villagers wear are quite sturdy, so even though the might not fit around the neck of the beast, they wouldn't have been broken, unless it was lost during the short scuffle it had with the hunting group.
I sigh softly, then go to drop the head, only to stop when I notice something. There is a mark on the neck- no, more like… a scar. It's charred black so I can't tell for sure, but it's like… the mark of a collar.
Who would ever keep such things as pets?!
No… was it even a pet in the first place?
XxX
I had gone back to report my findings to Father Henry before finally going back home with grim news.
This might be the work of a Devil.
Why they would do such a thing, I know not, but I surely won't forgive them. I do not hate the Devils, but some are truly evil, and they must be purged.
God allowed them to live after he slayed Lucifer, and yet they walk all over the Almighty's kindness. What a pack of prideful brutes that only know how to wallow in Sins and enslave others.
I sigh and shake away those thoughts, then focus on the floating Fire Ball in front of me. I didn't notice it before, but it's slightly bigger and hotter than before, probably because my Law of Fire has Ranked Up, and because the Level of the Skill has also gone up.
I can only create one at a time for now unfortunately, but maybe I'll be able to add more as time goes on.
I hurl it towards the dead tree a few meters ahead of me, then I do it again and again, watching as the trunk of the tree gets more and more charred. It doesn't catch on fire, which is good since I'd rather avoid a forest fire.
Another thing I have noticed since I Leveled up is that the weapons I have created are now heavier, and more resilient. They now don't shatter instantly, but just crack, and are even sharper.
I notice these things because I always keep track of every little improvement I gain through training, which helps a lot now that I can feel the changes the more I train.
Each little change and Skill is incredibly useful, especially if I can train multiple Skills at once.
[Flaming Veil] (2/10)
Creates a veil of fire around with negligible power around the caster.
It's not powerful, but it's a protective spell for close quarters fights. Plus, it doesn't take too much Mana to keep it constantly active.
[Flame Enchant] (3/10)
Imbues a weapon with flame-like properties.
This one is also quite useful, but it runs on a timer. One minute for each Level, and each time I use my weapon to hit something, a burst of flames shoots out on impact, which makes it incredibly useful and strong.
But so far, the Law of Wind is my favorite. It has by far the greatest power if used right, especially the Enchant mixed with my spear wielding.
I can also stack several Enchants on the weapon as long as they work well together. I can't put Water Enchant with Flame Enchant, but I can put Wind Enchant with pretty much all the others, with the Wind and Fire being the best mix.
The Water Veil improves my strength and gives extra weight to my blows while the Earth Veil instead makes me heavier, but raises my defense by a lot. Of that I am sure.
Each Veil has a similar but different look, with the Flaming Veil raising the temperature around me by a great deal while my body is wrapped by a bright orange barrier that sticks to my skin.
Water Veil instead makes my vision a bit blueish, and it's like it turns the area a meter or so around me into invisible water as anything that enters it kind of slows down and starts floating, as if unaffected by gravity.
Earth Veil makes my body feel very stiff, and it took a bit for me to get used to that feeling, but it's also a good way to train my body.
Wind Veil instead raises my speed by quite a bit, and again, I can mix it with the others too, but with Earth Veil it doesn't help much.
I have other Spells like [Wind Burst] and [Wind Blade] to help me in a fight, plus the other elemental variants.
But for now, the Enchants and Veil Spells are the ones I want to bring to Level ten as fast as possible, together with my Spear Skills.
But just training won't do much…
There is a Goblin camp not far into the forest. Group of nomad Goblins that just move around and pillage everything they want, be it material goods or women. They tried to attack us last month, but swiftly retreated after five of their comrades died before they even reached the village.
Father Henry was too worried to send us to take them out, mostly because their leader is an Orc, a strong Low Class monster, and well… Orcs and Goblins are well known for what they do to their female victims. Bred until they can't bear children anymore.
I've scouted the camp last week, and from what I remember there are around twenty goblins, plus the Orc leader, in the camp. The Goblins are nothing compared to the Mad Beast, and their skin isn't as thick and hard as it, so my weapons can easily pierce and kill them.
The problem is if the Orc joins the fray. I can't take him on even with the large improvement in strength I had when I leveled up.
So I won't take it on. I'll sneak into their camp and end them all while they are sleeping. Through my constant observation and scouting since they made a camp, I know that there is a gap in their defenses.
There are eight goblins keeping watch through the night from different vantage points, but two hours before sunrise, six of those eight goblins go to sleep, leaving behind only two. Mostly because the rest of the goblins start waking up one hour later.
That's when I'll strike. But I need another Spell before I do that, and I have a few hours to raise it's level as high as I can before taking a rest and going to take them out.
They decided to be passive since the last failed attack, and we never retaliated beyond just keeping watch of them and driving away their scouts while waiting for reinforcements that will probably never come, but this stalemate won't last forever.
And I'll put an end to it personally.
But first I need to see if I can actually create the Spell that I need to do this.
I kneel down and create a spear, then call upon my Mana and slowly coat the spear in it as I lick my lips.
I breathe out softly and slowly pull my hand back, yet leave a slow trail of Mana that connects my hand to the spear.
I breathe in and clench my hand, making the spear shudder slightly, then groan when the Mana coating it fades away.
Projecting Mana outside the body is one of the hardest things to do, and I want to learn how to do that to gain something akin to Telekinesis, just instead of using my mind I'll use my Mana to control the weapons I create.
If I can just lift it, then I'm sure I'll gain the Spell, that's exactly what I did to gain other Spells before. Something simple.
If I can't do this before my raid, then I'll probably just create an Earth Spear Spell and hurl that, but Telekinesis will be far more useful to me in the long run. Using that with the weapons I create, especially since they grow stronger with me, will be a lot better than an Earth Spear or any elemental weapon.
Mostly because creating weapons costs barely anything.
So I try again, and again, with each attempt lasting longer and longer. The mistake I keep on making is that I focus too much on the spear instead of the connection, which needs to be kept slow and steady constantly and also pour the right amount of Mana, else it collapses.
I kept up my Wind and Flame Veil as I kept trying and failing to gain the Telekinesis Spell, and so an entire flew by, yet I never gave up. I know I can do it, all I need is just time and constant effort.
And finally, after twenty more minutes, I manage to lift the spear several feet in the air, and I watch with a large smile on my face as a small box appears in front of my eyes.
[Telekinesis] (1/100)
One-hundred? That's a massive Level cap! I wonder why that is though… Actually, could each level add to the distance I can use the Spell and how many objects I can lift at the same time.
Let's test that out.
I move the spear around with a large smile on my face, then watch it drop on the ground after it exits the two meter range.
I step forward and lift it again, then throw it towards a distant tree and watch with a hum as it soars through the air. Not as fast and hard as when I launch it myself… But!
I create another spear, then launch it with Telekinesis towards the same tree. The speed is far greater than before, and it sinks a lot deeper too.
So I can mix Spear Throw with Telekinesis! That's absolutely fantastic! Now I know what to focus on until the raid.
But first, a quick ten minute break, I used more than half of my Mana to gain that Spell while keeping up two others, so I'd rather recover as much as I can and not go below half again.
So while my Mana recovers, Spear Thrust training!
XxX
I breathe out softly as I stare at the small camp a few dozen meters ahead of me. Usual eight Goblins standing watch and circling the camp at a slow pace.
Six of them should leave soon, hopefully, so it's best I get ready to act.
I only have one hour to take out the two remaining sentinels and then sneak into each tent to assassinate the Goblins one by one.
My eyes linger on the biggest tent at the center of the camp, but then draw my gaze away and focus on the still circling sentinels.
[Flaming Veil] (5/10) [Flame Enchant] (6/10) [Flame Burst] (4/10)
[Wind Veil] (6/10) [Wind Enchant] (4/10) [Wind Blade] (5/10)
[Telekinesis] (5/10) [Spear Thrust] (7/10) [Spear Throw] (6/10)
My hard work paid off, and now I feel like I am very ready to take on all these Goblins, even if something goes wrong. As for the Orc, that's still a bit out of my reach, but I have God on my side.
"God give me strength." I sign the cross and kiss my necklace lovingly, then lift my gaze and glare towards the Goblin sentinels, watching as one of them relieves itself, yawns loudly, then just starts walking back into camp without a care.
Another Goblin swiftly follows after it, then I watch as the remaining ones seem to play some sort of game to decide who leaves and who stays.
One of the bigger ones ends up staying, looking quite dumb as one of the smaller Goblins clearly cheated in that weird rock game of theirs.
Another large Goblin is left behind, and the four winning Goblins swiftly leave while cackling to themselves while the two bigger sentinels just grunt angrily to themselves, then start walking in opposite directions so to keep up with their patrols.
I grin at that, and soon stand and walk out of my cover as I start walking towards the closest sentinel. It's not looking towards me, nor is it looking around and actually keeping watch, so I easily cross the distance and impale a thin spear through it's throat.
It struggles for just a few seconds as it hacks up blood, but soon crumbles down on the ground, lifeless.
"God forgive me for taking a life. God give me strength." I pray to myself as I turn around and swiftly follow after the other sentinel, quickly catching up with it and ending it the same way I did with the other.
I sign the cross again, calm my beating hearth, then sneak into the camp and through the gap between tents. The only light around is from the Moon up above, and the few torches around the tent with the Orc.
I sneak a glance into the closest tent to check on the Goblins inside, then swiftly impale my spear through their closed eyes, ending them without them ever realizing.
One by one I clear tent after tent as I go around the camp to take out the Goblins, and this helps me realize that there is a hierarchy of sorts in the camp. I didn't notice it before, but as I went around I noticed that the tents close to the Orc's tent are more well kept and bigger, while those in the outside circle are more rundown and filled with the laborer Goblins.
The Goblins in the tents within the 'Inner Circle' are bigger, and have more equipment in their tents. These are probably the older Goblins, and those that actually do the fighting.
My eyes widen when a tent in front of me opens, making me dart in the gap between two tents I just cleared. I sneak a glance out and notice that the Goblin that just came out is one of the fighter Goblins, and luckily it's eyes were half closed. It's probably going to relieve itself… and find a body if I allow it to do so.
Better not run the risk.
I take a deep breath as the Goblin goes to walk by me, then click my tongue a few times to draw it's attention as I lift my Nun habit to expose the creamy flesh of my thighs.
It's tired eyes instantly widen with lust, as I smile and wiggle my finger towards it, making it release a perverted chuckle as it walks towards me, only to freeze when a dagger stabs through it's head.
"God forgive me for tempting a misguided Soul…" I pray under my breath as I hold the small dead body, then drag it inside a cleared tent before I walk out to finish my job.
And thus, one by one, I finally cleared all the tents other than the biggest one.
From where heavy grunts are coming from.
I don't need to look at the silhouette cast by the torch inside the large tent to know what is going on.
"God give me strength." I pray with no small amounts of disgust and anger in my voice as I flick my wrist, creating several large and heavy spears that float in the air, then are soon coated by swirling wind and flames.
I don't waste time in launching three spear at the moving shadow within the tent, making the grunts become a roar of pain and anger.
A large ten feet tall Orc soon comes into view as the tent crumbles and catches on fire.
My eyes narrow as I launch another spear, only for the Orc to deflect it with a swing of his large muscular arm as his furious gaze snaps towards me, his other hand coming up the pull out the two spear that pierced into his side while the third one missed it's mark.
They didn't pierce as deep as I wanted, but they still left behind a large bleeding wound that'll get worse with rough movements.
I grab one of the floating spears and twirl it around as I launch the others at different intervals, with only two of them managing to hit their mark while the others were either dodged or deflected.
A wound in the stomach and one in the shoulder, both neither too deep but still very good.
"Your time has come, you filthy Sinner." I growl out through gritted teeth as I glare at the large monster with hateful eyes. These filthy creatures that do unspeakable things to poor women don't deserve to live in the beautiful world that God created.
The Orc roars and looks around, eyes filling with confusions when no Goblins come to his eyes while I merely grin at him. Without his minions I'll be able to take care of it with ease, especially since he doesn't have his weapon and armor and is completely naked.
A very horrible sight, may I add.
I stomp my foot on the ground, raising a wave of blades as the Orc recovers from it's confusion, eyes widening in alarm at the approaching wave of blades and spears.
He does the smart thing and charges through them, yet covers his legs in dozens of bleeding cuts.
I create another wave of blades without a care, making the Orc roar and charge through them, only to roar in pain and stumble when the flesh is ripped off his legs.
Barbed blades. I baited him into it by using the first wave, then used the second one and covered the blades with dozens of thick barbs that sank into his skin and then ripped it off, leaving his lower legs all bloody and heavily injured.
Without his armor the Orc is an easy foe to take on, especially since I have a lot of planning on my side.
I twirl my Spear and swing it to the side as the Orc raises his arms to guard his face, grunting when a large gash is cut into them, going at least two or three inches deep. Wind Blade is incredibly sharp, yet it's arms and muscles are thick enough to not get severed instantly.
I step forward with my spear as the Orc stands on shaky and badly damaged legs, then tries to lunge at me once more, especially since now he is just a few meters ahead of me.
But I don't even blink as I plunge my spear into his crotch. I believe this is good enough punishment for raping women before I kill him.
His roar of pain is several times louder as when he ran through the barbed blades, his legs shaking as he whimpers while I pull out my spear and twirl it around as he crumbles.
Then turn around as I turn my spear into a scythe and sever his head without looking.
"May your Sinful Soul burn in deepest pits of hell." I sign the cross as I sigh, hearing the head and headless corpse crumble on the ground beside me as I slowly open my eyes, greeted by the rising sun.
A new day, and now the villagers can rest at peace. No more Goblins, no more stress caused by them and their scouts.
"May God bless my day." I smile towards the rising sun, then let my weapons fade as I turn around and walk towards the smoking tent the Orc owned.
I kneel down beside the charred corpse of a woman, still alive, but I heard no screaming from the flames while I battled the Orc, so she is fully gone. Too broken to save.
"May you reincarnate in a beautiful and loving family, away from all these horrors." I smile gently, then close my eyes as I plunge a dagger through her skull, sign the cross before picking her up and taking her outside the camp before going back in and slowly start to gather all the tents and corpses in the middle by using Telekinesis and my own hands.
It took a while, but I managed to gather the small hill of corpses, the leather of the tents and their fur armor thrown on top to cover them before I used a Flame stream to set it on fire.
I exit the now destroyed camp, lift the corpse of the poor woman, then bury her in the forest so that it can nurture further life.
I make sure to mark the grave with a cross-shaped stone before leaving. I'll come back with flowers later.

That's quite a lot of Levels, and my other Laws have Ranked Up as well.
I'd be happier, but this increase came at the cost of a life, something I wanted to avoid. I don't even know when they managed to grab a woman, but she had to have been captured way before they came here.
Now I can focus on training my Laws by visiting good places to meditate, and also wait for that storm to arrive. Father Henry is the only one that listens to the news, so hopefully the storm will actually come.
I step out of the forest and into the village, still full of energy after all those Levels, but a bit sweaty after all the training I have done. I deserve a long and nice shower after this.
I soon reach the church, only to pause and blink when I notice a carriage right in front of it.
I watch it for a few seconds before I just shrug and step inside, blinking when I notice two girls around my age speaking with Father Henry.
One of the girls had short blue hair with a light green fringe with brown hair, while the other has long chestnut hair up in a ponytail and violet eyes, both of them wearing the familiar Nun habit I wear too, but the first girl had a large bundled up cloth hanging from her back.
"Ah, Sister Ataraxia!" Father Henry exclaims as he sees me come in, making me bow towards him and wish him a good morning before doing the same towards the two girls, who answered in kind with warm smiles on their faces. "These are Xenovia Quarta and Irina Shidou, they came here to help us deal with the Goblin situation!" Oh dear, how to break the news now…
"Uhm… forgive me, but I have just taken care of it." I raise a hand with a nervous look, breaking out in a nervous sweat when the church falls deadly silent.
"You did what?!"
God, please be with me. I'm about to receive my first ever scolding and I'm scared!
A.N. Another chapter, take it. I like writing this, but it's also very boring since it's the start and I want to get to the fun stuff! Either way, I hope y'all enjoy it!
Many thanks and hugs for my amazing s! You guys are seriously the best! I hope my fics make your day better! Pat /SamuraiCheem
