A/N: I'll be answering some questions!
Hikari won't be using abilities like the Attraction Command in KH3 and Drive Forms (since that was exclusive to Sora in kh2). She can use keyblade form changes, shotlocks, magic and etc, but I won't be showing all that in one go. Little by little, you'll see her abilities in this story.
Chapter 6
Mystery
"That should do it…" Hikari leaned back as she finished casting a healing spell over Thirteen.
It was a good thing Merlin taught her healing spells and she was proficient enough to do it too. Out of all the other spells, healing was the hardest one to master. It was also the one that takes the most magic. Unlike fighting which can be mastered by practice alone, magic has to be taught, learned and studied.
"I might have healed her injuries, but I'm no expert or doctor. So I suggest still going to a legit profesional to get everything checked." She said, rubbing the back of her neck.
Midnight gave a reassuring pat on her shoulder. "Don't sell yourself so short, Leonhart. I can already see Thirteen doing a lot better now."
"Thank you. We'll be taking her to the hospital now." A medic said as the two watched the medics moved Thirteen into the ambulance.
The keyblade wielder couldn't help but let out another sigh. All Might and Midoriya were escorted out of the battlefield first before she could take a look at their injuries. She healed Midoriya's broken finger, but he managed to break both of his legs in the midst of protecting All Might from Shigaraki.
Right after All Might arrived to save the day, things turned for the better. She and Midoriya were quickly carried away from the battlefield before he dealt with the rest of the League and Nomu. She decided to not involve herself in the fight, seeing as All Might got it all covered and she would just be in his way. Though there was a time when Midoriya jumped into the fight again to help the mighty hero. He along with Bakugou, Kirishima and Todoroki, all lend a helping hand. In the end, the heroes came out as victorious.
"What's the matter?" Midnight asked when she saw the look across Hikari's face. "You look so distracted."
The brunette shook her head. "It's nothing. I'm just worried about everyone. I hope no one got hurt." She gave a small smile at the pro hero, hoping she didn't ask further questions.
Midnight smiled as she guided the girl to sit on the stairs. "Go and take a rest, Leonhart. Leave the rest to us. We'll make sure everyone gets out safely." She assured. From what she heard, Leonhart healed Aizawa beforehand. She assumed the girl would be worn out by now from using her quirk non stop.
"Thank you, Ms. Midnight." Hikari gladly accepted the offer to rest. She sat on the steps of the stairs, watching as pros and police come and go. Midnight left to go back inside to assist with the arrest of the villains, leaving her alone. She couldn't help but avert her attention to the pro hero in blue when he came into her line of vision. 'Even Best Jeanist is here…'
"We'll do another check to make sure we cleared the area." Best Jeanist said, instructing his sidekicks to go to one of the areas within the building. "Make sure to check every nook and cranny. We can't afford to let a single one of these scoundrels escape."
"Yes, Best Jeanist!"
While Iida managed to get help from within the school, Hikari managed to get help from outside the school. Fortunately, Tsukauchi did believe her and Ojiro. He arrived almost at the same time as the UA staff, complete with the police force, ambulances and pro heroes behind him.
"Hikari!" Uraraka's voice broke her from her trail of thoughts.
"Ochako," Hikari addressed the gravity girl. She exited the building first to take a look at Thirteen's injuries while her classmates came out of the building in groups. Uraraka and the ones near the entrance and plaza were the first to come out. "Are you all alright? Do you need any healing?" She asked in concern.
"We're fine!" Uraraka replied. "How about you though? Are you hurt anywhere?" She asked back.
Hikari shook her head. "No, no, I'm good." The hit Nomu delivered didn't break any bones due to her magic, though she was sure it would leave a nasty bruise later on.
Ojiro gave her a baffled look. "Are you kidding me? We saw that thing punch you out of the field!" He shouted in worry.
"Yeah! Didn't that hurt? You were like whoosh and bam!" Mineta joined in the conversation, using hand gestures and sound effects to explain. "Maybe you should see a doctor or at least let Recovery Girl see you, Hikari-chan." Asui also added with worry in her voice.
"It did hurt, but I'm fine now." The brunette pouted at Mineta before flashing Asui and Ojiro a reassuring smile. "There's no need to worry about me."
"Whoa, whoa! What happened down there anyway?" Uraraka blinked confusedly, glancing back and forth between Hikari and the other three. They were up at the top of the stairs, a bit closer towards the doors, and with the distance, they couldn't quite see what was going on around the plaza. "What am I missing?"
Mineta turned to look at Uraraka. "You won't believe it! It was crazy! Didn't you see that tornado?"
Uraraka gaped at Hikari. "That was you?!"
Hikari laughed sheepishly.
Ojiro didn't look convinced. "Are you sure you're alright?"
"Yep—"
"What's this?! Are you hiding your injuries?!" At that moment, Iida decided to cut into the conversation. He happens to overheard the conversation. His hand made chopping motions as he turned to look at the nearest medic. "Excuse me, miss! Our friend is injured! Please take a look at her!"
The medic immediately went over to check.
Hikari raised her hands. "Class rep! I'm fine! There's no need to check—thank you though." She kindly declined the medic's assistance. She was afraid. She was afraid that if she was sent to the hospital, they would give her a check up. Meaning they would find out she doesn't have a Quirk Factor which would lead to more questions.
"We'll feel more at ease if the medic checks on you, Hikari-chan." Asui croaked, placed a finger on her chin. "Please?" Uraraka added, her big doe eyes blinking up at her.
The brunette sighed in defeat. "Fine…"
"Please give us some space." The medic said and everyone moved a few steps back. She made Hikari sit on the stairs again, as she opened the medical bag. "Where does it hurt?" she asked.
"Err… My stomach, I guess? It doesn't hurt much, but…" Hikari trailed off, glancing at Uraraka and Asui as the boys were shooed away.
The medic nodded and Hikari lifted her shirt up just a little. "Oh my—!" The poor lady seemed as if she just saw something so horrifying. "You were this badly injured and you were planning on hiding it?!" she raised her voice a little in disbelief.
Hikari glanced down and understood why the lady was so surprised. "Oh, yikes. It does look bad." she brushed it off with a laugh. It might have looked bad and purple, but it didn't hurt as much. "But I swear—I don't feel it! I'm 'A' okay!" she flashed the medic a grin, trying to convince her she doesn't need a trip to the hospital.
Uraraka and Asui came closer. "Is it… bad?" Uraraka asked.
The medic sighed, shaking her head in disappointment at Hikari's aloofness. "Bad? From what I see, it could be several broken ribs." she stood up, motioning her hand for someone to bring a stretcher. "We have another injured student here!"
"EH?!"
Uraraka frantically glanced between Hikari and the medic. "H–Hikari! Don't hide your injuries!"
Hikari grimaced. "Girls, girls, I'm fine." She proved her point by standing up and spun in place, showing to them she could move perfectly fine. If she has to be completely honest, it did hurt. A little. Just like when you stubbed your toe against the table. That sort of sting. "See? Nothing broken." she smiled brightly.
"Don't move." the medic scolded, frowning at the brunette.
"Is something the matter?" A familiar face came to see the commotion. It was Tsukauchi Naomasa himself. He took off his hat, holding it close to his chest.
"Nothing wrong." Hikari said in a sing-song voice.
"Hikari-chan is being stubborn, sir." Asui corrected Hikari's answer. The shorter girl didn't pay attention to the taller brunette when she voiced her disapproval. "She might have a few broken ribs, but she's refusing medical care. Please put some sense into her head."
Hikari looked at the girl in betrayal. "Tsuyu!"
Tsukauchi blinked, staring at the brunette with wide eyes. "Ms. Leonhart, is there a reason why you're refusing medical help?" he questioned.
"Well… I can always heal it later." Hikari answered. She cleared her throat and covered her mouth to whisper something to the detective. "And… uhh… I'm not fond of hospitals in general." she prayed that he would just leave it at that.
The detective seemed to think for a moment before giving a nod. "I understand. But we cannot oversee any injuries." he saw the brunette tensed up a little, but she quickly regained her composure. He wondered why this girl was so anti about taking a trip to the hospital. "How about we escort you to see Recovery Girl instead?" he suggests kindly with a smile.
Hikari pondered. If it was only Recovery Girl's kiss, she doesn't really mind. There was no way the school nurse had anything to check her nonexistent Quirk Factor, right? "Okay. I guess I can go to Recovery Girl."
"Um, sir! I can go and accompany her if it's alright." Uraraka raised her hand, offering to go with Hikari.
Tsukauchi shook his head. "I apologize. Every student, aside from the injured, has to be present here for a head-count and briefing." he said and both girls looked at Hikari in concern.
Hikari smiled. "Thanks for offering, Ochako. But I'll be fine going alone. I'll see you guys later then." Without another second wasted, she was escorted by the medic to the ambulance. She waved her hand at Ojiro, Mineta and Iida as well. The moment the ambulance's doors closed, she sighed softly as she leaned back against the seat. 'Crisis averted… I should come up with a better lie.' she thought to herself, a hand on her chin.
The ride to UA's main building seemed like a long one and the walk towards the nurse's office seemed longer.
The medic knocked before sliding the door open. "Pardon us, Recovery Girl."
Recovery Girl gave a nod to them both. "Yes, yes, come on in. I already received a call from Tsukauchi regarding your injuries." she motioned her hand for Hikari to sit on the chair in front of her. She turned to look at the medic with a kind smile. "You may go, dear. I'll take care of this reckless girl."
Hikari gave a slightly offended look.
The medic bowed. "Then I'll leave her in your care. Please excuse me."
The door closed with a soft thud.
Hikari pouted childishly. "Reckless? I ain't reckless."
Recovery Girl tutted, giving a disapproving look. "You are if you decide to hide your injuries from the adults, dearie." The brunette was about to argue back when the elderly woman shushed her. "Now, hush. My two other patients are trying to rest."
Hikari glanced over to the occupied beds. The curtains were drawn giving some privacy between them. Now that it was quiet in the room, she could hear soft breathing coming from the other side of the curtains. Were they in pain? Perhaps she could ask if it was alright to use her healing on them—
"—-your shirt."
Hikari blinked. "Huh? Oh, oh yeah." she lifted her shirt up, just enough to show the bruised spot.
"My dear," Recovery Girl sighed deeply when she saw the injury. "You shouldn't—" she paused mid sentence when she saw something else.
The brunette raised an eyebrow. "Hmm? Oh, I guess you're staring at the scar?" the corner of her lips twitched up to a crooked smile. She placed a hand over it, memories of her past flooding back.
It was an accident. Roxas didn't mean it, she knew that. The poor boy felt so guilty for hurting his friend, he never forgave himself because of it. It took her years to make him finally stop beating himself up for something she has already forgiven.
"It was from a surgery years ago. Goes from here to here." She lied, leaving out all of the important details. The only truth about it was where the scar started and ended. From her left shoulder blade to the right side of her torso. "It doesn't hurt anymore. So, I guess that's that."
Recovery Girl stayed quiet. Over her years of experience in the medical field, she knew what sort of object caused that scar. She wanted to ask more, but she didn't want to pry for something Hikari wasn't ready to tell. The girl might look carefree and aloof, but she seems quite reserved as well. She answered her questions, but she didn't answer further to complete the details.
"...I see." Recovery Girl said quietly. The conversation ended there. She examined the bruise before leaning back. "Good news, Leonhart. Your ribs are not broken."
Hikari did a fist pump with a quiet 'yes', keeping her manners to not disturb the other patients.
"But that is still a nasty bruise." Recovery girl continued. She motioned for the taller girl to lean down to which she did. She kissed the brunette on her cheek and the bruise instantly healed in a matter of seconds. The purple-ish color returned to the girl's normal skin tone, her scar now more apparent. "Now that should do it."
Hikari pulled her shirt down. "Thank you for healing me, Recovery Girl." she bowed her head down in gratitude.
Recovery Girl shook her head. "Now, just remember to be more careful. I don't want to see you here so soon." she chided as she gave Hikari a juice box from beside her desk. "Off you go now. Go back to your classroom and wait for your classmates to return. There are some important announcements before all of you can go home."
"Okay. Thank you." Hikari replied as she stood up. She didn't leave the room immediately. Her eyes looked over to the curtains again, to where All Might and Midoriya were resting. She reached into her pouch, taking out two small bottles. They were high-potions, specifically the ones she made herself during restock day with Merlin. "If it's alright… Can I give this to All Might and Midoriya?" she asked, showing it to the doctor.
Recovery Girl blinked, but she took the two small bottles anyway. "What are these, dear?"
"It's a special drink I made! Helps boost up your stamina and keeps the body healthy!" Hikari answered. It wasn't technically a lie, but she was certain Recovery Girl won't just give anything suspicious to her patients. She couldn't say that it was a potion either because that would just confuse the doctor even more.
The doctor smiled. "You're too kind. I'll be sure to give it to them the moment they wake up." She placed the two small bottles on her desk and turned to bid the brunette farewell. "Now off you go."
"Then please excuse me."
With that, Hikari left.
A minute passed.
Two.
"That was a close one…" the curtains were drawn open a little, revealing a bandaged All Might. He was wide awake the whole time during Recovery Girl and Hikari's conversation. He has to pretend to be asleep in order to fool the girl. He swore the girl was staring at him through the curtains before she left. He was afraid that she might actually pull the curtains open. "I… couldn't help but overhear your conversation…" he cleared his throat awkwardly.
He didn't mean to eavesdrop.
Recovery Girl stared at the blond man from where she sat. "I didn't want to pry into her private life, but if I have to say something… It doesn't look like it was from 'just a surgery'." she sighed softly, a sad look across her eyes. "I might be old, but my eyes don't deceive me."
All Might gave a solemn look. He never taught Hikari in class since the girl just enrolled yesterday. He didn't know her personality that well either. The only conversation he had with her was from the time he came to rescue her and Shinsou, and that was only a few sentences too. The girl was strong. He could see experience in her eyes. Kind and thoughtful, and yet there was something off about her. Something mysterious.
"I'll be sure to pay attention to her during class." All Might said as he sat on the bed. He fluffed his pillow before leaning back against it, sighing softly. He closed his eyes. The room was quiet and he could hear the clock ticking in a rhythm. Finally the boy on the bed beside him stirred. "Midoriya, my boy. Are you awake?" he asked.
Midoriya grunted as he tried to move. "All… Might?" He squinted his eyes to focus on his blurry vision. He remembered being escorted to the nurse's office by Cementoss and then he fell asleep after a kiss from Recovery Girl. "How long was I out?" he sat up, rubbing his eyes.
The blond man smiled. "Not long. Just around half an hour." he answered with a small chuckle. "Go back to sleep, young man. You had a long day."
"I—!" Midoriya suddenly sat up. "Leonhart! Is she alright?!" he asked frantically.
All Might blinked.
"She left not long ago, walked out of here fine and healthy." Recovery Girl replied, an eyebrow raised at the sudden outburst.
The green-haired boy sighed in relief. "Is that so… Thank goodness." he placed a hand on his chest, relief washed over his features. "Right before you came, she was hit by that Nomu because she pushed me out of the way and… I thought… well… she… might have been seriously injured…" he trailed off, mumbling and looking down to stare at his hands.
The mighty hero stared at his successor with wide eyes. "Young Leonhart was…hit by that Nomu?" he asked in disbelief. That Nomu was vicious and merciless, even towards the children. "Young Midoriya, what happened before I arrived?"
Recovery Girl cleared her throat. "Toshinori. No questioning my patient! Save the questions for later. The poor boy needs his rest." she chided.
All Might ducked his head at the elderly woman's scolding as Midoriya laughed nervously.
The elderly woman sighed as she leaned back against her chair. "Speaking of Leonhart. She left something for the two of you." She reached out to her table, taking the two small bottles. She passed it to All Might and the man passed it to Midoriya. "She made it herself, a special drink that would boost your stamina."
"Oh, I have to thank her later." Midoriya smiled as he examined the small bottle. He couldn't see the contents of the bottle since the hard plastic was tinted blue. He twisted the cap open and glanced over to look at All Might who was holding it out towards him.
"Cheers, my boy." The mighty hero grinned.
Midoriya nodded. "Cheers!" he clicked his bottle with All Might's before downing the drink. The liquid left some sort of a minty taste in his throat. He moved his legs to a better position. He blinked. Move his legs? Last time he checked, both of his legs were broken. And he was sure with the stamina he has now, Recovery couldn't heal him to a full recovery. "Eh? Huh?" he pulled his covers off and stared at his bandaged legs confusedly.
"Midoriya, don't just move carelessly!" Recovery Girl came rushing over.
Midoriya looked at his doctor with confusion. "But, but, but—!"
Recovery Girl placed her hand on her hip, shaking her head left and right. "Honestly… Toshinori, say something—" she looked over to the blond when he just kept quiet. She raised her eyebrows when All Might was in the same state of confusion as Midoriya. His hand was hovering over bandages, over his scar. "Toshinori?"
All Might looked down and took off the bandages wrapped around his stomach carefully. Right after he drank the special drink, it didn't actually hurt to breathe. His body felt lighter and he never felt better. It was as if all of his injuries and sickness had been healed. He needed to make sure of one more thing. The constant sting on his scar was gone. If–
"This…"
Both Midoriya and Recovery Girl stared at the man with wide eyes. "A… All Might!"
The scar was still there, but it looked better. The redness around the scar reduced and it didn't hurt to breathe anymore.
"Did… that drink Leonhart made do this?" Recovery Girl stared in amazement, her hand covering her mouth.
There was a knock on the door. "Excuse me—" it was Tsukauchi.
"Oh my god!"
"Huh?!" Poor Tsukauchi. He was left in confusion the moment he entered the room.
Shigaraki laid on the floor, his blood pooling beneath him. He clicked his tongue. That damn hero shot him on both his arms and legs. If only they managed to get that keyblade brat, his wounds would be healed in an instance.
"You… lied, Master." He muttered, as he looked up to the small TV. He began to list out the events that happened during USJ. "We got crushed. They got Nomu too. Our cannon fodder was taken down in a flash. The Symbol of Peace is still in perfect health! You were wrong, Master—!"
"Was I?" The person behind the screen replied, rather calmly too.
Shigaraki tried to push himself up. "They have a wielder. Our wielder."
There was a moment of silence.
"… You don't say?" the Master replied with a rather displeased voice.
Kurogiri picked up the first aid kit, kneeling beside his wounded ward. "The girl is a force to reckon with. She is no ordinary student nor is she an ordinary wielder. She could've defeated Nomu with her keyblade if she could." he reported.
The Master hummed. "It appears we certainly received a strong wielder indeed. She just… got delivered to the wrong address."
It wasn't about All Might or UA anymore.
Shigaraki grunted as Kurogiri began to patch him up. "I'll get her—! I'll get her even if it's the last thing I do!" he gritted his teeth, hissing.
The Master gave a chuckle. "Indeed, Tomura."
"We merely got ahead of ourselves. Yes, we underestimated them. But there's no use crying over spilled milk. This endeavor was not a complete loss. We finally found the promised wielder."
They were one step closer.
"Take all the time you need. Find stronger troops. We can't move freely. That's why we need a symbol like you. Shigaraki Tomura, next time the world willl know of the terror you represent."
Radiant Garden
"That's basically what happened."
"I see…" Ienzo hummed in response, a hand on his chin.
The young researcher was surprised to see Hikari returning to Radiant Garden so soon after her last visit. Her next visit was supposed to be around next week. He figured something must've happened that made her take the decision to move the meeting ahead of schedule.
Hikari explained to him that she and her class encountered a group of villains, namely the League of Villains, during one of their classes. The whole situation was undeniably rare. It wasn't everyday a hero school would get hijacked by villains, but what was more odd was the fact the villains expected a wielder to be on their side instead.
"Certainly, Xehanort must have some sort of influence…" Ienzo deduced with a rather troubled look across his face.
The brunette shrugged, "Could be Xehanort, could be anyone really…" she said as she leaned back against her chair, her arms crossed. "From the reports, Xehanort did visit the world… but it seems like the world's views on wielders were rooted way before he even came."
Ienzo gave a nod at her logic. "It makes sense with the history of wielders… especially after discovering Scala ad Caelum." The world, Scala ad Caelum, was humongous. It consists of a nearly infinite number of mountain towns suspended on the waters—which stretch out as far as the horizon. The three masters, Terra, Aqua and Ven, started to dig deeper into the world's history. Though it would take them quite some time to search all of the towns. he cleared his throat before going back to the previous topic. "But regarding your situation now, it's best if you stay on alert—just in case those villains decide to attack again. Keep me updated, alright?"
Hikari gave a nod. "Noted."
"With that aside… What are you going to do now?"
"Hmmm," Hikari hummed, her fingers drumming against the hardcover of the novel. "I have to drop by Mog the 'blacksmith' to fix my staff and probably restock on potions and ethers… I think I'll spend the night here and go to Twilight Town tomorrow morning to help Sora at the restaurant during lunch hour. I'll go back to the City of Heroes after that." She planned out her schedule in detail.
Iida and Uraraka explained to her that classes were canceled for the next day and all students should use that time to rest. As soon as Hikari got the news, she immediately decided to visit Ienzo.
"Just be sure to remember to rest. Don't overwork yourself." Ienzo said as he stood up, walking towards a bookshelf. "Why don't you give reading a try?" He passed her over a thick book.
Hikari gave a skeptical look over how thick the book was. "You know I don't like reading these sorts of books. Look at these pages! It's gonna take me years!" she complained and Ienzo laughed at her humor. They both know she could finish the book in less than a week if necessary. She was just a lazy reader. "What's this about anyway? The Sun Warrior… A novel?" She examined the book confusedly.
The book was written in the old language–specifically from the Age of Fairy Tales.
"Fiction Literature, as quoted from Master Aqua." Ienzo corrected, he sat back down as he watched Hikari take a look at the first page. "She said to pass it to you. So you could practice your reading skills." He continued, as watching the brunette's expressions was amusing.
The brunette slouched against the chair, snapping the book shut. "Great… Homework… Yippie." She said with no enthusiasm at all.
Ienzo chuckled. "It's actually quite interesting. Come find me once you've finished reading it. We can discuss how the main character, Leo—"
"Lalalala! Spoilers!" Hikari closed her ears, trying to block out Ienzo's voice. She wasn't exactly into reading novels or books, especially really thick ones. She and all the other wielders have been learning to read the old language to help speed up the investigation of said world. There were just too many documents and books to read, they needed more than just Master Yen Sid to translate. Ienzo also picked up the language to help. "But okay… I'll give it a try. Don't expect me to finish within a week though."
The young man smiled. "Of course, of course."
The both of them stood up.
"I'll walk you out." Ienzo insisted as they walked out of his private study. "Before you leave for Twilight Town, come back and visit me again. There's some updates we need to do with your Gummi Phone."
The brunette fished out the gummi phone from her pocket and handed it over to the boy. "I don't mind if you take it now." she said as she held the book on her other hand. She already replied to Shinsou's messages and she doesn't exactly use the phone to play either. "I can survive without looking at my phone for a day." she laughed.
Ienzo nodded with a smile. "Yes, of course." he took the phone and before they even knew it, they already arrived by the castle's main entrance. "I'll see you later then."
"Yeah, see you later!"
The next day
"A—Aizawa?!" All Might was surprised when he saw the 1-A homeroom teacher walk inside the meeting room. He was informed the man was injured pretty badly and would be on leave for a week, but here he was—with nothing but a few bandages. "Are you alright? You're supposed to be resting." he asked in concern.
Aizawa grunted. "You don't need to concern yourself with my health." he brushed off the worry away as he took a seat beside Vlad. It was a waste for them to bring him to the hospital when most of his critical injuries were healed. Even with Recovery Girl and Leonhart's healing, there was still a scar underneath his right eye. He left the hospital the day after, even though Recovery Girl insisted he should stay for another day. "These bandages are nothing. The old lady's treatment was too excessive…" he lightly scratched the area below his right eye.
The number one hero nodded his head. "I see…"
"...What about you?" Aizawa asked back.
The skinny man gave him a smile. "I'm feeling better than ever." Truly, he does. He never felt this good in such a long time. He didn't even need to take any more pain medications for his injuries. Whatever was in that drink Leonhart made, it surely helped him a lot.
It was the day after the USJ incident.
While the students had the day off, All Might along with a few other teachers, were called to be in the meeting to discuss further about the League of Villains. Tsukauchi Naomasa, the one who led the investigation, was present as well to give them all the information he gathered from the captured villains and the students' testimony.
"Everyone, let's start the meeting." Principal Nezu announced once he saw everyone was seated. He folded his hands on the table and glanced to look at the detective, giving him a nod. "Detective, please proceed."
Tsukauchi nodded. He looked down to the papers in his hand, "About the one called Shigaraki… We've been through the list of men in their twenties and thirties in the Quirk Registry… With no luck, nothing turned up in the list about Disintegrate, not even the Warp Gate user, Kurogiri."
"Neither of those quirks are registered and both of them might be using aliases, making them members of the underworld." The detective paused, looking up to look at the pro heroes.
Snipe placed the paper down. "So you're saying we know next to nothing? I reckon we oughta learn fast…" he said. He might've immobilized him for now, but the leader's wounds were bound to heal sooner or later. "...Or else that leader of those varmints will get back on his feet faster than greased lightning."
Tsukauchi couldn't agree more. "According to one of the student's testimony, Ms. Leonhart, this attack was related to the one last week. The Toxic Haze was assigned by Shigaraki to obtain an id pass from a student. Unfortunately, she and Shinsou Hitoshi were the victims."
"They were the ones who apprehended that villain, right?" Midnight asked, confirming the facts.
"Correct." Tsukauchi nodded in confirmation. "They were also the ones who made the assumption the villains were planning to break into UA. With UA's security, one wouldn't even think of an attack…"
Aizawa was quick to connect things together. "But relating to the break in two days ago… After failing to get the id from Leonhart and Shinsou, those villains must've used the press as a diversion to steal some info." He continued, his brows furrowed in distaste.
"I'm ashamed I didn't heed my students' worries." Principal Nezu sighed, closing his eyes. Leonhart was worried, but he reassured her that with UA's security, no villains would be able to break in. On the contrary, the villains decided to break in the next day. "Aside from this, I believe we also need to revise our security plans."
"…"
The principal turned to look at the pro hero sitting beside him. "Do you have something you want to add, All Might?"
The blond man hummed. "It's just that… Nothing about this feels normal. It was an especially daring attack." He scratched his chin, thinking back to the events yesterday. He never met the man in his whole life, but he knew his personality just by observing him for a few minutes. "He started going on about some ridiculous ideology. And although he didn't say anything about his own quirk, he was shooting his mouth off, bragging about Nomu's quirk. And when things didn't go his way, he started throwing a tantrum."
Principal Nezu nodded his head. "I see your point. It seems quite foolish in a battle against heroes to reveal one's quirk and waste the element of surprise."
"Spouting a plausible yet deluded ideology. Bragging about the toy he brought along. And simple mindedly thinking everything would go his way." All Might raised a finger each time he listed off the man's personality trait. "If we think about how the attack was carried out it seems clear that this Shigaraki character couldn't quite hide his childish nature."
"In other words, he's a man-child." Aizawa finished, leaning back against his seat.
Vlad crossed his arms, looking at Aizawa. "A kid with too much power, is that what you're trying to say?"
"We apprehended a total of 92 villains at USJ the other day." Tsukauchi stepped in, looking down at his papers. Interrogating all 92 villains was a lot of work and time consuming. Fortunately, the police force managed to do it within a day. "They were just back-alley thugs, but the question is… why so many of them would agree to follow this man-child."
Everyone was silent.
The detective lowered the papers down, raising his gaze up. "Nowadays our society is saturated with heroes. So maybe small-time villains like them, who always get kicked around, are drawn in by that sort of pure unaffected evil."
Midnight sighed, a hand on her cheek. "How tragic… Perhaps if that young man received better quirk counseling when he was little, he might have chosen a different road."
Principal Nezu gave a solemn nod. "In one way, he's a lot like our students. He has potential to grow...if only he had a proper mentor to follow." He glanced around, looking at the teachers gathered inside the room.
All Might looked down to his folded hands on the table. From this day forward, he swore that he will mentor his successor down the right path. He couldn't imagine seeing the young man in Shigaraki's shoes, but with a heart like Midoriya, he doubts the boy would go down the same path as the man-child.
Another student came across his mind.
Leonhart.
The girl was strong from what Midoriya described. Perhaps, a bit too strong for a freshman who just got into the hero program. He knew UA had some very strong and talented first years, golden eggs with potential to grow even stronger. There are some cases where young teens received quirk training prior to entering a hero school, and he couldn't help but wonder. What sort of training did Leonhart go through?
His eyes wandered down to look at the papers scattered around his table space. He blinked when he read something odd in the timeline of events. He straightened his posture and began to read the specific part more diligently.
"Something wrong, All Might?" Tsukauchi noticed the pro hero's sudden awareness.
"Page three, row seven." All Might said and everyone turned to that exact page. "Ojiro states Leonhart tried contacting the school shortly after arriving at the Conflagration Zone. She didn't get through because all the signals around the school are down." He read.
Snipe raised an eyebrow. "And?" He didn't find anything out of the ordinary.
"In the next line… She then tried contacting someone outside of the school, which was Tsukauchi, and succeeded in calling for help." All Might continued reading before placing the papers down. He turned to look at Aizawa, who was deep in thought.
Aizawa flipped to the page before. "Page two, row 10. Kaminari tried contacting the school and even outside for help, but even with his quirk he couldn't manage to get through. He along with Yaoyorozu and Jirou encountered the villain who admitted to blocking the radio waves. It wasn't until later when the pro heroes arrived that the villain was subdued."
Tsukauchi gasped, his eyes widening in realization. "She managed to contact me when that villain's quirk was still activated."
All Might continued to read the testimony below Leonhart. "In Young Midoriya's testimony… He said that Leonhart was the one who fought the villains when Aizawa was unconscious. She fought head to head with Shigaraki and Nomu. Shigaraki seems like he was interested in her because of her healing quirk. It wasn't until in the middle of the fight when Shigaraki and Kurogiri started to act weird, like they became more hasty in their pursuit."
…almost as if they knew her.
"In Leonhart's testimony… she only mentioned that Shigaraki was only interested in her healing quirk and nothing else after that." All Might finished.
"Are you suggesting… that Leonhart is hiding something?" Snipe asked.
Aizawa's finger twitched at the thought, his eyes narrowing.
"I don't mean it in a bad way, Snipe…" All Might shook his head. He didn't want to suspect Leonhart was behind the attack when she helped so much. A villain wouldn't dare to risk their life to protect someone else, and future heroes' lives to boot. She seems like a kind and loving girl. "I… overheard her conversation with Recovery Girl the other day. It seems she had a rather rough childhood. Rather than hiding with ill intentions, I think she kept quiet because she's afraid."
"Oh, poor little angel." Midnight covered her mouth, her heart clenching at the thought of the trauma Leonhart had to endure. "Perhaps it might be best if we contact Leonhart's parents to schedule a meeting."
Principal Nezu hummed. "That's the problem. Ever since yesterday, the school hasn't been able to contact both of Leonhart's parents."
Aizawa glanced down. He remembered when he confiscated Leonhart's cellphone. She told him that she was waiting for her mother's call. They haven't talked to her ever since she moved to Musutafu. Could it mean that Leonhart lied and was living alone instead?
"I'll be sure to ask about her condition tomorrow." The girl's homeroom teacher said.
The Principal nodded his head. "Now, although it seems that Leonhart is indeed hiding something, I want all of you to proceed with utmost care and consideration. Old scars might have healed, but the scars left in her heart might have not."
"Yes, sir."
The meeting ended with more questions than answers, with a mystery shrouded over the Leonharts.
"Hachooo!"
Hikari sniffled and rubbed her nose after she sneezed so loudly. 'Talk about someone talking behind my back… I hope they're talking about the good stuff.' She wasn't one to believe in such superstitions, but she can't help but feel someone was indeed talking about her.
She was back at the City of Heroes.
The brunette worked in the Bistrot until a little over two in the afternoon. Both Remy and Sora gave her a whole tart to bring back as thanks for helping them when they were short in hand. It was so busy, she didn't have time to open her phone all day and decided to just do it when she returned to the world in question.
As soon as she opened her phone, it was filled with news about the USJ incident. It wasn't just social media, but everywhere she looked, it was about the incident. The giant building with an LED screen was broadcasting the news. She even saw a short clip of her classmates on the big screen. People seem to make a big deal about the incident. Even the girls waiting beside her were talking about it.
"It's scary to think that villains could break into a hero school." One girl commented.
"I hope this doesn't give villains any thoughts about breaking into ours!" the other added with fright.
Hikari watched as the two girls walked across the road when the light turned green. She shoved her phone into her pocket and proceeded to cross the road. Perhaps it was a big deal to this world. To her, she was used to battling evil on a daily basis. Something like USJ was common for her. She sighed. She shouldn't compare herself to others. Her classmates and her teachers aren't her. They might have different views and opinions.
The brunette turned her head when she saw something speeding towards the two girls from the corner of her eyes.
"Look out!" Hikari reached her hands out, dropping the cake in the process. She grabbed the two girls' arms and pulled them back out of danger. She saw a blur of black zooming past them. A reckless motorcyclist. She steadied the two girls who were shaken by the sudden appearance. "Hey, watch it!" she shouted to the motorcyclist.
The girl held onto Hikari's arm, staring at her with teary eyes. "T… Thank you!"
"A–Ah! My… My bag! He stole my bag!" One of the girls quivered, realizing her bag was missing.
Hikari clicked her tongue. "Stay here! I'll get him—" before she could even chase after the thief, another thing zoomed past her at full speed, leaving her in the dust.
"Wasn't that the Turbo Hero, Ingenium?"
"I think it is!"
The keyblade wielder turned to look at the two girls. "Could you look after this for me? Don't worry, I promise to get your bag back for you!" She handed the box she dropped earlier to one of the girls before taking off using flow motion to catch up with the thief and the Turbo Hero.
Unlike Ienzo, she didn't really care about Quirk Restrictions. Of course, she would try to keep it low and not use her powers publicly, but she can't just turn a blind eye to something she can help in front of her eyes. Luckily, they weren't after a big bike or a racing one. It was still possible to chase the thief without a vehicle.
"Halt! This race is over! Pull over at once!" Ingenium ordered, shouting over the sound of his own engine.
The thief turned his head, his helmet's visor reflecting Ingenium's face. The pro hero wasn't wearing his hero suit. In a high speed chase like this, it was a reckless choice.
"You're nothing without your costume!" The thief shortened the distance between himself and the pro hero, opting to corner him into the traffic barriers. "A single hit would be fatal!" he cackled.
The thief raised his hand, pushing Ingenium with as much force as he could.
Ingenium staggered and braced himself for impact. 'Shit—!'
"Gotcha!" Something or rather someone caught him mid-fall. The brunette wrapped her arms around him and the blue aura covered him as well. She skidded to a full stop, a few feet away from the crosswalk. She gently lowered him down. "Are you okay? Don't worry about that thief. Kooma got him taken care of." she reassured him with a smile.
Ingenium raised an eyebrow. "Kooma?" he echoed. His eyes widened when a large and colorful panda held onto the thief tightly. From a brief speculation, it appears the large panda used its large body to stop the motorcycle and trapped the thief into its arms. "...Yes, thank you for your help, miss." he smiled in return as he stood up.
"No worries! Ah… er… Ingenium, right? Could you uh… let me off with a warning? I did use my quirk in public and—"
Ingenium laughed. "Relax! There's no need to be so scared. I mean, why would I rant out the person who just saved my life?" he chuckled when he saw the girl sighed in relief.
"Let me go!"
The two of them turned to look at the thief, who was forgotten for a few seconds. The brunette walked towards the thief and took the bag he stole. "I'll be taking this!" she huffed as she casually sling the bag on her shoulder. "And it's time for you to take a nap." She casted a sleeping spell on him.
Not a second later, the thief went limp in the panda's arms, snoozing off to dreamland. The panda gently laid the thief down onto the road and high-fived with the girl before disappearing in a poof of smoke.
"Ehem." Ingenium cleared his throat after witnessing the whole incident of the girl using her quirk again without supervision.
The brunette flinched, turning to look at the pro hero with an awkward smile. "... Sorry? I err… need to get rid of evidence I used my quirk? I mean— not all heroes are as chill as you. Wait! Err… I—Please pretend you never saw me." she face palmed, covering her face in embarrassment.
The dark-haired man couldn't help but chuckle. "What's your name, miss? Are you a hero in training? Which school do you go to?" He asked as he closed the distance between them. He was genuinely curious if the girl did study in a hero school or not. She was proficient with her quirk and she was able to quickly settle the situation. A perfect candidate for Team Idaten.
"Hikari. Leonhart Hikari. And uh… yes, I am. I actually go to UA." Hikari introduced, shaking hands with the pro hero.
"Tensei. Iida Tensei." Ingenium nodded his head. "What a coincidence. My younger brother goes there too."
"Wait! Iida… As in, Iida Tenya? Class rep is your younger brother?!" Hikari gasped in realization. She noticed the resemblance, but didn't want to pry into the pro hero's personal life.
Ingenium smiled. "I heard a lot of things about you from my younger brother, Ms. Leonhart."
Hikari was curious about what Iida told his older brother about her. They barely even knew each other since she just joined class 1-A not three days ago. "All good things, I hope."
"Don't worry. Tenya speaks highly of you." Ingenium reassured.
He was visiting his younger brother to make sure he was alright after what happened in his school. He was beyond worried when news reached his ear about villains attacking UA. He was glad his brother was alright and he even spoke of all his classmates' bravery in dealing with the scary situation. While he criticized Leonhart's recklessness, he also praised her strength and quick thinking. For a second, Tensei could've mistaken Tenya's admiration towards Leonhart as a blooming crush.
Ingenium snapped his fingers when he remembered something. "Internships are coming up, right? If you're interested, come and join Team Idaten!" He saw the girl stare at him confusedly.
The pro hero smiled as he pointed to the direction where they came. Hikari did as told and she blinked when she recognized the two girls running towards them. They were the ones who she saved earlier and promised to get one of their purses back. She could see the relief across their faces when they came closer.
"No one can possibly remain calm when they're put in a chaotic situation where they feel like their entire world has been turned upside down. No matter who it is, they'll be overcome with anxiety...just like a lost child. If you come running to their side, take their hand, and put them at ease even one second sooner, it makes all the difference. For a hero, there's nothing more important than the speed to do just that."
Hikari nodded her head at the advice from the pro hero.
Ingenium gave her his card.
"Team Idaten would be delighted to have you on our team."
