Chapter Fourteen - At Winter's End
The next day, Aaron took Krista by the hand and led her through town. Their winter clothes long since abandoned, Krista now wore brown trousers, black boots, a pale yellow shirt and a light blue vest, her blonde hair flowing around her shoulders, no longer in two braids. Aaron led her over to where he had a very special surprise waiting for her. His red hair flowing in the breeze, he now wore brown pants, brown boots, a blue shirt and a brown vest, the white streak in his hair no longer there. He led his best friend to where he had his surprise stationed, and Krista let out a gasp. For right in front of her, was a brand new sled, top of the range and adorned with shiny blue accents. Inside was a brand new pickaxe tied up with a red ribbon, and Sven strutted up to it as if showing it off, placing a hoof on the wood.
"Do you like it?" Asked Aaron eagerly, bouncing on his toes.
Krista just gaped at the sight. "Oh my gosh, it's beautiful!" she replied. "I can't accept this!"
"You have to! No returns! No exceptions! By order of the friggin' King!" he said with an accusing finger. "He's made you the official Arendellian ice mistress and head deliverer." he said, crossing his arms. Krista scoffed.
"Oh that is not a thing-"
"Sure it is. Besides, it has a cup holder, why would you not want that? Plus, I replaced that other sled you nicked from Igor. He'll be none the wiser." he said. "So…what do you think?" Krista turned to face the red-head and scooped him up in a crushing hug.
"I could kiss you, that's what I think!" there was an awkward silence and Krista released the boy. The two stood back, their cheeks blushing. "Soooo?…" Krista stammered as she rubbed her neck awkwardly.
Aaron sighed. "Look. I think you're amazing, Krista," he began, "But I rushed into a relationship because I thought it was the only thing that was gonna make me happy. But, I don't want to make that same mistake again. But I'm finally happy with what I have now. I mean, we were on an incredible journey together for those three days, but…" he trailed off, and Krista finished his sentence.
"You wanna take things slow." she questioned.
Aaron smiled and nodded. "It's what I should've done in the first place." he said.
Krista nodded back. "Well, then taking it slow it is."
Aaron held out a fist and the two fist-bumped, both agreeing to just be good friends for now. "Wanna just be besties and see how it goes?" Aaron asked.
"Oh god yes." Krista replied.
The Duchess and her men were being led to the docks, the ships waiting to take everyone home. She rambled on to the castle attendant, who was there to make sure she didn't run off. After all, she had conspired to kill the King, and she was basically under arrest.
"I can't believe this! I am a victim of fear! I have been traumatised, nearly killed by ice, and my neck hurts! I demand to see the King!"
Kai, the one escorting her, pulled out a rolled parchment from his coat, a satisfied smile on his face. "Ah, I have a message from the King, actually," he began, "Arendelle will henceforth no longer do trade business of any sort with Snailsime." he said with deliberate emphasis.
The Duchess' face turned red. "Snalisem! It's Snalisem!" she cried, and two Arendellian soldiers led her away and onto the ship.
The gates of Arendelle castle were once again open for the first time in over a decade, and eager crowds of people now stood in the courtyard, waiting for their King to start the show. Aaron and Krista walked up to meet him in the centre, Olga on top of Sven, and nodded for Erik to begin. He now wore real clothing that he hadn't created himself out of ice, which consisted of a pale blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up, (still open chested. He seemed to really like that…) a dark navy blue vest and matching pants, and dark black loafers.
He turned to face the crowd. "Are you ready?" he asked, and the crowd cheered and whooped.
With a stamp of his foot, the palace courtyard turned into a large ice rink beneath them, and Erik gracefully gestured to the two fountains either side of him and the water froze into a beautiful pattern as Erik's magic left his fingertips, the design so different from the threatening, jagged one from so many nights ago. The townsfolk clapped and began skating around, as Erik had conjured ice-skates for all of them. Aaron waddled up to him, unsteady on the ice, but his brother caught him before he fell, both of them letting out a laugh.
"I am loving the open gates!" said Aaron, and his brother smiled.
"We are never closing them again." he looked down at Aaron's boots, which would never support him on the ice, and clicked his fingers. A gorgeous pair of white ice-skates materialised in place of the brown leather, the blades made of pure ice.
"Oh, Erik, thank you, but you know I can't SKA-" he was cut off by his brother taking his arms and skating along with him, Aaron fumbling but Erik flawless on the ice with no skates needed.
"Come on, it's easy!" he said and led him around the rink, despite his brother's humorous protests.
"Hey. There's something I've been wanting to ask you for years," Aaron began, his brother raising a brow. "Do you wanna build a snowman later?"
Erik beamed, and placed his hands on his brother's shoulders. "Aaron, of course I want to build a snowman."
Beneath the summer sky, the new happy family of a red-head, an ice harvester, a living snowman, a self-aware reindeer, and an ice king skated, laughed, and remembered to keep the spirit of light and love in their hearts for as long as they lived.
The end.
Author's note: Thank you so much my beautiful readers, I really hop you enjoyed it! I really wanted to give Frozen my own unique spin and make the characters my own as much as possible, like giving Erik an arc where he grew to hate his father and making king Agnarr kind of a villain. I also wanted to show the emotional effect being alone for so many years had on Aaron, like his PTSD with the door. You guys continue to support me just by reading my stuff, and there is still more to come. Please favourite and review! Next up: Genderbent Cinderella! That's it for now, beautiful readers! XOXO ; )
