Celios checked his watch again. 2AM. It shouldn't have been much longer now.
The rabbit kept himself from sighing as he waited in the bush he had picked to scope out the target and wished he had chosen a better position. Not that the view was bad, in fact it was rather beautiful considering the cloudless sky and shot of the entire Tundra biosphere was the only thing that made the wait worthwhile. But what he would have given for another layer of thermals. His bushy tail felt like it was about to fall off! Not to mention the leafless branches poked and scratched at his fur and skin. Unfortunately this was the only decent amount of cover that allowed him to get the angle he needed to. He just needed to hold out a bit longer.
He checked his right and ran his paw over the suitcase right next to him, as though worried it might suddenly sprout legs and walk away. Still there. A long case angled so that he could quickly gain access to whatever contents lay inside. Celios slowly and deliberately wiped the snow that had gathered on the item of importance off with a frown. He hated the snow. Give him the hot contents of the desert biosphere or even the rainforest or whatever the locals called them. As new as Celios was to Zootopia he knew he'd need to properly remember the names of these places if he wanted to keep working in them. Main point, anything was better than snow. He frowned at himself and reminded himself to suck it up. This was his first job and he was not going to mess it up because of a little foul weather. He needed to prove that he was capable and willing if he hoped for more work in this line.
Six more miserable minutes passed by at an agonizing pace before finally a sign of movement caught his eye. A car driving alongside the far end of the park. Celios grabbed the binoculars to his left and attempted to get a closer look feeling his heartbeat quicken slightly. This could be it. A black car. Type fitted the description and there was no mistaking those fancy wheels. It had to have been them.
The car came to a stop alongside the road and waited patiently as a second grey car approached from the opposite direction, fitting the description of the respective vehicle also and parked a few dozen meters or so from the first car. The passenger seats of both opened up and revealed only two species, both predators. Four jackals and a more suiting animal for the climate, three polar bears. The biggest of the white furry beasts was holding a very important looking briefcase not too far off from Celios's own and passed a gruff and untrusting stare at the opposition. Speaking of, the rabbit decided to prepare while he had the chance and opened the case with a click before very gently pulling out a sniper rifle. An M24. It would be effective enough from this range, he assured himself before checking and adjusting the scope. The silencer had been fitted before hand so there was no need to worry about that. Confident with the weapons features, he loaded a singular bullet into the gun and made it ready to fire. The bolt action lever was pulled back with a satisfying click and time slowed.
The rabbit watched as the jackals bitterly spoke and the polar bears laughed in amusement, probably complaining about the cold. Celios could sympathize. Thankfully they decided to do business right away and the middle polar bear presented his briefcase allowing the main jackal, a greasy suit wearing crook wearing glasses with brown fur to remove the contents revealing a machine gun of some sort, Celios wasn't sure what kind. Rapid fire weapons weren't his specialty. Still it was more than clear that the intel he had been briefed had been solid. Simple gun sale under cover of darkness, and out of the way of the main city too, just on the outskirts so there was no need to worry about random civilians stumbling across their illegal meet and swap. Celios felt tempted to remove the silencer and take out the target with a loud bang just to alert anyone of the scum so that the cops would catch them. He knew better however and began to put his finger on the trigger. His target, the brown jackal with the gun was right in his sights. His big dumb smile just waiting to be wiped off his face with a simple squeeze of the rabbits finger.
Celios pulled the trigger.
Not even a second passed and the bullet pierced the right side of the jackals chest as he was thrown backwards landing in the snow painting bits of it red. The rabbit could only smile as he watched the remainder of the criminals scatter like roaches back to their cars. One polar bear managed to trip over his big feet and Celios had to keep himself from laughing. After watching the cars pull away at a speed that would have caught the attention of any nearby police, he finally stood up and breathed a sigh of comfort knowing it was over. For a moment Celios wondered if he should take a picture, give proof to the contractor of a mission well done but chose not to. If he was ever suspected which he likely wouldn't, they could trace the photo in his phone even if he deleted it right after. Not that it mattered, this was going to make the tundra news guarantied. With that he put the rifle back in its case and slung the strap over his shoulder before heading back to the more familiar and certainly warmer city environment he was used to. Luckily the trains ran late for the more nocturnal residents of the city so there'd be no need to stay the night in this desolate wasteland.
Come 1PM he'd head to 'The Office', collect what he was now officially owed and with luck more work would roll his way. It had been a very good night. Very good night indeed.
