Back in Green Hills, the sun starts to rise over the mountain. Sonic, with Sophia still in his arms, runs across a bridge. At the welcome sign for Green Hills, Wade is in a police car holding a speed watch and the two hedgehogs pass by. "Morning, Wade!"
"Hi Uncle Wade!" Sophia calls out as the wind blows the man's hair a bit.
"Morning, guys!" He greets them as they go down the road. They run up a large mountain and Sonic stops at the ledge to overlook the city. He hollers at the sight, putting Sophia down.
"Whoo-hoo! Good morning, Green Hills!" He shouts and nudges Sophia, who smiles in amusement. "Come on, you know you want to, Sunshine."
"Sonic..." She chuckles at his antics.
"Come oooon!"
"Fine, alright...Alright, Green Hills! Good to be back! Whoo!" She hollers while putting her hands to her mouth, turning to her boyfriend. "How was that?"
"That was great!" He encourages her and she shakes her head. Sometimes, Sonic was the only person...or hedgehog to break her out of her shell, which she loves about him, especially when she needs cheering up. But at the same time, she's also the one that gets his mind back on track.
"Come on, blue bear, we gotta get home before my parents know we left...race ya!" She speeds down the mountain and he gasps.
"Oh, I know you didn't just give yourself a headstart, Sunshine!" He laughs as he races after her. They head towards home, with Sophia's smaller Nissan Altima parked outside along with her dad's truck. Her dad managed to buy her a smaller car and fix it up so that she can actually use it whenever she wants...even though she can run fast, but it made her feel like she was a human again when she used it. Sophia jumps through her open window of her room while Sonic goes to the roof. He peeks in through the skylight and then moves it open. No one's been in his room, thankfully. He flops onto the ground, a bowling pin shaking and falling off. He catches it before it fell, slowly putting it on the ground. He sighs in relief and tiptoes, the floor creaking. He cringes as he continues to move, but the floors keep making the noise. "Oh, come on!" He whines to himself, and he grabs something from the bottom of his shoe. It's a few dirty bills from the robbery in Seattle. "Uh oh."
He frantically eyes his room, looking at his drawer that has a keep out sticker on it. He opens it up and puts the money in there, taking out his bag of rings. He gets out the map and a feather falls out once he opens it. He gasps as it floats to the ground. He picks it up and remembers who it belonged to...
He rolled inside his home, bumping into Longclaw and waking her up. He pulled out a flower from his quills and she sighed, reaching out to it. "Sonic..."
"I miss you, Longclaw," Sonic says wistfully as he stares at the feather. "I'm trying to make you proud..." He puts the feather in the map and closes it, putting it away in his pouch. He puts it on the drawer and then gets into bed, yawning. "And now for a little shut-eye..."
Just as he goes to sleep, Ozzy comes in and licks his face, waking him up. "Oh, ugh!" He tries pushing the dog away. "Ozzy, morning breath!" He covers himself up and Maddie comes in with some laundry.
"Sonic! You're still in bed? Just like Soph...you're supposed to meet Tom, remember?" She reminds him and the dog runs off to go greet Sophia. The blue hedgehog falls to the ground tiredly face first.
"Alright! Alright, I'm up. I'm up!" Maddie watches as Ozzy leaves and then a few seconds later (Sophia's room is relatively close to Sonic's), they both hear her groaning.
"Ah, Ozzy! I'm tryin' to sleep..." She complains at this and Maddie rolls her eyes.
"Soph, we gotta do our girls' day before the week's over, remember? That was today!" Her mother calls out to her.
"Aww...okay..." She murmurs tiredly from her room; she promised her mom she'd go, so she can't back out either...
Tom and Sonic are on a boat as they're fishing on a lake. "Ahh, what a day," Tom admires the sunny weather. He then casts his line. "Thanks for coming out, bud," He and Sonic are on opposite sides to get a better chance of bigger or better fish. "You know, I feel like you and me, and Soph too, we haven't had much time together lately. Course, she's with Maddie, so I can forgive it, but sometimes I miss my little munchkin. Don't tell her I said that, she'd never let me hear the end of it." Sonic doesn't respond to this and he stays silent for a few seconds. "How's it going over there? Did you get any bites?"
However, Sonic...is asleep, some drool coming from his mouth as he snores a bit. Tom looks back, causing the boat to rock and in turn, Sonic falls into the water. The cold water gets him awake and he screams, flailing his arms. "Ahh! I can't swim! If I die, don't look in my closet and Sunshine gets everything I own!"
Tom goes over and grabs him out of the water. "Hey, hey, you're good, you're alright," He pulls Sonic back up into the boat. "Okay, take it easy," He hands the shivering hedgehog a blanket. "There, you're good. Okay," He slides back after making sure Sonic was okay. "But, now that you've had a nap and a bath...I went up to your room last night to bring you some new comics and um..."
Once Tom reached the attic, he was confused to see what looked like Sonic reading a newspaper. He got closer, but then a trip rope set off a mechanism, including touching play on a radio. "Whoa, whoa, whoa, stop right there," The Sonic statue waved a hand. "I wouldn't come any closer because this little hedgehog had way too many chili dogs. Oh no, oh no!" Sonic imitated fart noises from the recording, Tom just baffled. "I'm so embarrassed! Get out of here, quick!"
The newspaper fell to reveal the statue, which...looked bad and had a cartoon face on it. "Oh no! Here comes another one!" He made another fart sound. "Go, now, save yourself!"
Tom just stared, unimpressed at this attempt to fool him, and the recording repeated, and then the statue fell apart. The recording became distorted and he just watched the thing jitter around.
"And Sophia almost had me...until Ozzy started barking underneath a heap of blankets," Tom gives Sonic a knowing look, who groans.
"Oh, I knew I should have used real farts! Sunshine even kept telling me, 'he's a cop, he won't fall for that'!" Sonic laments at that. Tom simply throws down a newspaper, which details the robbery in Seattle.
"How many times are we gonna do this?" He asks in exasperation.
"What? Cast your line and not catch anything?" Sonic avoids the question since he doesn't want a lecture. "Seems like a billion."
"I think you know what I'm talking about. Lying, the sneaking out with my daughter, pretending to be Batman and her Robin," Tom points out to him.
"Blue Justice and Pink Liberty, trademark pending," Sonic corrects Tom.
"Whatever, you're being reckless," The man scolds the hedgehog.
"Ugh. Not this conversation again," Sonic grumbles a bit; he's snuck out with Sophia multiple times, so it's not the first time something like this has happened...
"Hey!" Tom protests at this. "It's no fun for me either, but if you keep being irresponsible and dragging Sophia through this, we're gonna keep having this conversation."
"How is it irresponsible to use our powers? Or to bring Sunshine with me, she supports me!" Sonic argues back to him.
"Sonic," Tom holds up the newspaper. "You two destroyed an entire city block!"
"That block was already messed up!" Sonic gets onto his feet. "Who cares? Look, we stopped a robbery! We were heroes!" He stands proudly, hands on his hips in front of the boat.
"You guys put people in danger and that's NOT what heroes do," Tom points out and he looks away, a bit upset. He then turns around to Tom, sighing a bit. It hurts that he's not getting support from Tom at all about this...
"You're supposed to be my friend. Stop trying to be my dad."
Tom looks away as he thinks about that. He...might have been a bit too strict on Sonic lately. Not only because he's dating Sophia and they live underneath the same roof, but...sometimes it's hard for him to accept that Sophia is in a relationship. Mainly because she always focused on school before she met Sonic and trying to figure out what to do with her life...
Sonic sits back down, frowning a bit. "I can take care of myself. And I can take care of your daughter like you're supposed to trust me to do."
"Sonic, taking care of yourself and only one person you love, is not what being a hero is all about," Tom starts off to him. "It's about taking responsibility for other people, not just my daughter. And now, whether you wanna hear this or not, you are still just a kid, both of you are. Especially since she's two years younger than she was before she met you." Sonic looks away as he hasn't forgotten the fact that if she hadn't met him...she'd still be a 17-year-old human. She wouldn't be a hedgehog, and she'd be living a normal life like she had been before... "You've gotta be more responsible for her, you're both in a relationship. You have to take it seriously."
"I take us seriously!" Sonic protests to him. "I always make sure she smiles, I make sure she has fun, and I make sure she knows that I love her."
"It's more than that," Tom slowly shakes his head. "You have to be the guy that she needs if you're going to be in a relationship. Where do you see yourself with her in the future? What do you plan on doing for the rest of your life with her?" Sonic frowns as it hits him that...he wasn't the first choice Sophia would pick as a human for a boyfriend. Is he...too immature for her? "You got some more growing up to do before you're ready to be the big hero. Trust me when I tell you, there will come a time when your powers will be needed. But you don't choose that moment. That moment chooses you."
"Whoa. Look at you. Look, I just got—I just got goosebumps. Wait a second, did you steal that from Oprah?" Sonic gives him a playful look, hands on his hips.
"No, sir. It's a Wachowski family special. Came from my dad, in this very boat, on this very lake. I said the same thing to Sophia a few years back when I took her here. He would always try and steer me in the right direction. That's what Maddie and I always try to do with you two," He looks to the hedgehog, who smiles. "I don't know what the future holds for you guys, but...I hope that you are continuing to make her happy. So, until your moment arrives, I want you to work on being more responsible, not just for you, but for her. Comprende?"
"Comprende," Sonic smiles and stands up. "High five on it!" The two high five and Sonic cheers. "Yeah! Donut Lord and the Blue Blur are back at it again!" He speeds to the back of the boat. "Hang on!" He then gets into the water. "Speedboat!" He speeds up his feet to run in the water, pushing the boat with him. Sonic laughs while Tom is not amused.
"SONIC!"
