Chapter 19 - Mother
Max stared down at the slightly charred bodies of three of his boys. David was the only one that was perfectly fine. Well fine enough being away from his young lady and his brothers being charred and in desperate need of healing. He would not allow it right now. He and David needed to talk. Alpha males cannot coexist together and as the ages go on David was getting stronger and stronger. And Max had to admit that David was much stronger than he was. He only held back because he truly did not have a reason to go against him. Now with his lady's return he had every reason to rip him to pieces. It saddened Max to think that way. All he had truly ever wanted was a beautiful, doting wife and a family. He had been denied that because of his own foolishness.
"David, son, we need to talk." he started.
"What more can we say?" David hissed, "They need healing."
"They will get it after we speak." Max countered.
"Fine." David answered.
Max launched into everything he had wanted to say. He and David had not always been at odds. They did have a god relationship once upon a time. They had truly been father and son at one point. But Max finally realized that it was time to let David go. The other boys would be lost without him, so it was time for them all to be let loose. It was time for himself to be alone again. It was time to start over somewhere else and allow the others to go where they may. And it was hard for Max to say it. He had been so alone for all those years in that damned cave. Now he would be alone again. But it was time no matter how he disliked it. It was more than time to allow David to spread his wings and be his own leader.
David could only stare at Max. It was hard for him to believe that Max would just let them all go. But being connected for so long, he could feel that Max was actually sincere. He listened attentively and kept quiet until he had finished. When it was all said and done. All David had to say was thank you. Max turned and left. As soon as he disappeared there was four humans walking into Max's living room. Max had left the people to save the other boys, and, in that moment, David felt him sever the connection they had had for millennia.
One by one he took the entranced people to one brother at a time. He had no clue which brother was which, so he started with the first. Turned out it was Marko when the curly hair sprung forth and then he latched himself onto his victim. He grabbed the next person and led them over to the next. Turned out it was Dwayne and he followed suit like Marko. Then the same happened with Paul. The fourth human quenched his own thirst, but he left the rest of them to his brothers when they awoke.
His mind stayed busy as he waited for them to heal. Thoughts of Samara passed through his mind. She was so sad. He could feel it. She thought him dead. It hurt him so. It was like time did not move fast enough for him to return to her arms again. His brothers would be just as distraught when they awoke. Well Paul more so. He would be frantic to see Maria. The poor girl, he did not know if she had survived or not. Only time would tell.
(The Girls at the Cave)
Sadness felt like a literal choke hold on them all. Samara held Maria as Mickey and Cass worked over her tirelessly. They had brought her a man to eat to replenish her blood. It was so scary. The siren within was on autopilot. She savaged the man as they used their combined powers to heal her from the infection and the wounds. The neck wound had terrified them. They watched as their power slowly and carefully knitted her back together physically. They never said it aloud, but it was her mental state they were more worried about after they saw her body healing. The mind did not heal as quick as the body or if ever. She had been tortured for no reason. She had almost been murdered by a man of the cloth. Her mental state would need tenderness.
When the siren receded back into Maria she fell into unconsciousness. They stood silent vigil over her. The water crashed upon the rocks outside and would sometimes splash into the cave. Every time the water drops would touch Maria she would twitch. Mickey grabbed her and called Cass over to help her. They picked her up and they followed Mickey outside and to the ocean. She pulled Maria in with her. The moon shone brightly and slowly bled red. They held Maria to keep her afloat as the waters turned dangerous. They frothed violently. Then suddenly Maria's eyes opened, and she screamed! Her scream was a terrible wail, a frightening sound. The ocean tossed about. The girls had to grab onto rocks to keep from being tossed further out. Then lightning crashed and Maria sank into the inky depths. The ocean calmed and they panicked. Where was she? What happened?
"Maria!" Sam screamed and dove into the water.
"Sam!" Cass and Mickey said and dove in behind her.
The transformation was instantaneous. Their eyes suddenly could see clearly in the dark water. There, several yards away was a light. They swam straight for it. It was warm and pulsing. When they got close it seemed to be a cocoon. Maria was in the middle. She was in her siren form, and she was curled into the fetal position. There was a woman with her. The woman was a siren as well. She looked so elegant. Her hair was white and her eyes as blue as the Caribbean seas. She had strands of pearls wove through her hair and a silver crown that looked like ice and diamonds. Her lips were red and sparkly, like rubies were on her lips. Her tail was so elaborate and looked to be encrusted with emerald, gold foil, and silver. The lady was holding Maria like a mother would and she was singing in a language they knew yet didn't.
She looked at them and beckoned them over. She let them in the warm cocoon with a smile. The cocoon was filled with harmonious sound and love. It was so warm and seemed to fill their very souls. She was their mother. She was the mother of sirens. She was the queen and giver of the gift.
"She will be fine my darlings. Your sister just needs to heal her soul. It will take time though. She must return to the water every night. Maria has been hurt so bad. She is strong though and with her sisters by her side she will thrive again. Just have patience. Her body is healed but her mind and soul are fractured. I will be here every step of the way for her. I will protect my children." she said.
"Mother." Cass said and swam closer.
The beautiful lady opened her arms for Cass. Cass rushed into her arms. The overwhelming love Cass felt brought her to tears. It was everything she had always believed a mother's hug should be. Being neglected her whole childhood had left a gaping hole inside of Cass. Lucy was the only one to ever give her the love and attention had craved and now this woman who was her siren's mother, loved her unconditionally. It felt so wonderful. Maria then turned and opened her eyes. Her eyes were wide and doe-like.
"My sweet little Maria." The lady cooed.
"Mama?" Maria asked.
"Yes, my darling." she answered.
"What happened?" Maria asked.
The lady sighed and told Maria everything that had happened. Maria was upset to say the least. But the lady, their mother, said she was alright. That she was healing, and everything would be fine. They would all be fine. Everything would be fine. She would always be there to help and to heal her, them. The lady started singing again. All of her little mermaids fell into a slumber in her healing cocoon. She would keep them safe and loved.
AN: Yes, it is a little short, but I had it be this way on purpose. I will be back soon!
