Chapter 20 - Stormy Emotions
Lucy and Alan decided to make a trip to Sacramento to see Edgar. So much had happened the last few days and none of the girls had returned home. The police were out looking for them all. There had been a huge fire at Mr. Hernandez's boat shop. Several bodies had been found. None were the girls or Father Abraham. They had found many were lost souls under Father Abraham's beck and call. There were a few that had records a mile long for attacking people believing they were vampires. Then there was the body of poor Mr. Hernandez. They had murdered the poor man. And now that the rest of the girls were missing it was believed that Father Abraham had something to do with it. The boys were missing and the police believed that they were either involved or were looking for their girls. And on top of that Max was missing. Someone had burned his house down the day before Hernandez's and they had killed his poor dog, Thorn. The police suspected that it was all Father Abraham.
Lucy was already losing patience with the police. Jerome had been a steady hand during all of this. He kept her from falling apart every time she had to meet with the police. He also reminded her that Edgar needed to be checked on. He would stay and keep an eye out for the girls while they went to Sacramento. The trip was exhausting to say the least. Even Alan seemed put out, but Edgar needed to be visited. They arrived at the hospital and checked in at the desk. The doctor requested to speak with Lucy. He informed her of what had happened. Edgar had a lapse into Jorge. And it seemed that Jorge was becoming more and more agitated the longer he was under wraps. Edgar wanted to end his life. Lucy sobbed when she heard that. He was just a child.
The Doctor showed them to Edgar's padded room. He was sitting in the corner in a strait jacket. Lucy's heart broke. He looked terrible. Alan was so quiet. His brown eyes were so sad.
"There is a new medication that we can try." The Doctor said.
"Anything that'll help him. He's just a child." Lucy said, hopefully.
"Please." was all Alan said.
"Would it hurt to go in and visit him?" Lucy asked.
"I wouldn't advise it. He's been very unstable." The Doctor advised.
"Alright. Is he eating?" Lucy asked.
"He's off and on eating. When he's alright he'll eat normal but when Jorge makes an appearance, he won't eat." The Doctor said.
They spoke for several more minutes and then she signed off on him starting the new treatment. Then they left for home. It was a sad situation all around. It was just so heartbreaking.
(Sam and the girls)
Gaia, the siren mother, showed them everything about siren. Maria stayed in the cocoon, healing from her wounds. Many of her wounds would take time. But they would have to leave before she was fully healed. They were thankful that her throat was fully healed. That is where Gaia had to devote most of her attention. But it was better than her showing back up on shore with a slit throat. Her back was still pretty bad as was where he branded her. But the infection was gone, thankfully.
"It is time, my daughters to return to the shore." Gaia announced, "The cave is ahead. You must go there first."
Sam and Cass grabbed Maria. She was still in the sleep that Gaia had put her in. She needed to heal. Mickey swam ahead to the cave. It was just now hitting twilight. Coming up onto shore Mickey's legs reappeared and she ran into the cave.
"Marko! Marko!" she yelled as she entered.
There was no one in the main chamber. She yelled again and moved to the tunnel that led deeper into the cave. Yelling down into the tunnel she heard some rustling. She moved out of the way and before she could move to far arms were wrapped tight around her. She felt a nose slide up her neck.
"Marko!" she said and pulled away, her curly haired man was there and in one piece. Her eyes welled but she wiped them away, behind him was David, Dwayne and Paul.
"Paul! Come on! We have Maria. She needs help." Mickey said and ran to the mouth of the cave.
Paul was suddenly there and was pulling Maria's unconscious body into his arms. David told him to go, get her to the hospital. She needed it. And Paul flew fast. Each boy scooped their respective girl up and flew behind them. They all landed to the side of the ER away from camera's. Sam ran ahead of the rest.
"Help! Please help!" Sam yelled going through the automatic doors.
A security guard jumped up as a Nurse came towards her. Sam waved them over and Paul came round the corner with Maria. The security guard radioed for a gurney and more help. A couple more nurses suddenly popped up with a gurney and a doctor came round. The doctor waved a light into Maria's eyes as the nurses laid her down. There was no response.
The doctor barked orders and they wheeled Maria away. Paul begged to go back with her, but the Nurse wouldn't allow him back. The security guard had already radioed for the police. He had recognized Maria from the news that she had been kidnapped. Sam asked if she could call their mom. The guard was grumpy about it but he allowed it since she was a minor. She dialed in the number and after a few rings, her mother answered.
"Mom?" Sam said crying.
"Sammy!" Lucy almost yelled, "Where are you?"
"I'm at the hospital. We found Maria." Sam said.
"I'm coming." Lucy said and hung up.
After the call Sam went back to David. They all sat in the waiting room, and it was only about 10 minutes before Lucy arrived. Lucy came through the doors with Jerome. Grandpa had stayed behind with Alan. The police arrived the same time as Lucy.
"Mom!" The girls all said and ran to Lucy.
Lucy hugged and kissed them all. She looked around for Maria. The charge nurse came around to see what the noise was. Lucy saw her and inquired about Maria.
"Where is Maria?" Lucy asked, Jerome holding her hand.
"Miss Maria is in critical care. Are you family?" The Nurse asked.
"We're her parents." Jerome answered.
"Oh, come with me." The nurse said and led them away.
The police started asking questions, but Cass nipped it in the bud. They were minors and would feel a lot more comfortable if their parents were there. So, they turned their questions to the boys. Paul was not in the state to answer anything. He was not coping well. He was an absolute mess. The police were at a standstill until Lucy and Jerome were back and still wouldn't know everything until Maria was allowed visitors. It was about a hour when Lucy and Jerome came out.
Jerome approached the boys and went down to Paul's level. He told him everything they were doing to Maria and that he could go back. And back he did go. He ran to her side. Lucy sat with her children and the police came to them notepads at the ready. The boys stayed to the side with Jerome asking questions. The police questioned them.
By time the police left it was all on Father Abraham. He and his cronies had snatched the girls after work. He took them to Hernandez's Boat Shop. They confirmed to them that Mr. Hernandez was dead when they arrived. Maria was strung up from a ceiling post and she had been beaten and was bleeding heavily. And Max had been there as well. They had him strung up and he looked dead. They confirmed to them that Max was the boy's father. That Father Abraham was convinced that the boys, Max, and the girls were vampires. He was crazed with his belief that they were all the undead. Sam took the heat on the fire. She said that they were going to kill them, so she snatched up one of the lanterns that were around, and she smashed it. The fire spread fast since there was oil and gas around the place.
All they did was act on instinct. They grabbed Maria and jumped down into the opening where the boats would sit. They did not get far before it exploded and sent them hurling through the water. They were not sure how much time had passed but they woke up on the beach and was dragging Maria when guys had been lucky enough to come across them. Paul had snatched Maria up and had run all the way to the hospital with her. The guys corroborated her story. The police demanded that the girls get checked out as well. They had been captive and then they had been without food and drink for a few days. They needed baths and nourishment.
Several hours had passed when they were finally released. Paul unwillingly left Maria's side. Lucy said she'd stay with her and would call the Cafe if there was any change. They all returned to their place above the cafe and Jerome stayed with Lucy. Dawn was coming so they had to hurry. Carefully they got into the apartment and made sure the blinds were closed. Mickey made several sandwiches and Sam made some fresh tea. It was all quickly consumed and they all crashed.
Morning came all too quick. The girls did not wish to dwell on what was going on with Maria, so they opened the cafe. It was a late opening but open, nonetheless. The day was passing quickly. And then it came to a screeching halt! Right at the front door was Father Abraham. He walked right in while there were no customers. He locked the door, flipped the sign, and pulled the blinds and curtains.
"Well, well, well. The succubae lived."
