Chapter 21 - Blood

"Well, well, well. The succubae lived."

All motion ceased in the cafe. Sam visibly shook as she stared at the battered form of Father Abraham. Cass and Mickey were glaring from the kitchen window. Sam was petrified but she bolted towards the stairs. Throwing open the door she dashed up the stairs. She never made it to the top. Almost to the top she was snatched about the waist by Father Abraham. She screamed loudly for David. Then she was falling violently. Father Abraham had literally thrown her down the flight of stairs. Her body slammed into the wall and tumbled hard down the stairs. Landing at the bottom Samara was still. Her eyes were open and staring unseeing, her head was bleeding.

"Sam!" Cass and Mickey screamed.

Suddenly the girls saw Father Abraham careening down the stairs. He landed merely inches from Sam's prone form. The older man cried out from the pain of the throw. David appeared at the bottom of the stairs. Dwayne and Marko barreled down the stairs over to Cass and Mickey. Paul came to the body of Father Abraham. Rolling the man over Paul placed his booted foot in the middle of his chest, pressing down hard. The elder man grasped at Paul's leather clad leg, grappling to get away. David was kneeling on the floor carefully cradling Sam's body. He feared the absolute worst. He could not do it again. If she was taken from him a third time. He could not live any longer without her.

The boys were frozen as they heard a heart broken sob break from David's chest. Cass and Mickey began to cry. An agonizing wail erupted from David, and he held her body close as he broke. A loud frantic knocking came to the door of the cafe. Cass peeked out the curtains, trying to keep out as much light as possible. It was Lucy and Jerome. Cass opened the door. The boys, but David and Paul, were in the corner of the room away from the light.

"Mom!" Mickey sobbed as they came into the cafe.

"What is going on?" Lucy asked as they entered, hearing David cry.

"Father Abraham..." Cass said and pointed to Paul standing on Father Abraham.

Lucy and Jerome looked at the battered man and then Lucy noticed David rocking back and forth cradling Sam's body. Her daughter was not moving. She was so quiet. She was too quiet. Her baby... Lucy's mind rebelled at that thought.

"Sammy?!" Lucy choked and collapsed, Jerome catching her before she hit the floor.

"David, she's not dead." Paul said, "Her heart is barely there but it's still there."

David cradled her closer and listened. It was so faint. A slow, sluggish thump. Without further hesitation David turned Sam towards him. He ripped his right glove off and bite into his own wrist. He got a mouthful of his own blood and kissed Sam to get the blood flowing into her mouth while he used his right hand to massage her throat to have the blood go down. David did this a few more times, getting as much blood into her system as fast as possible.

"She'll need blood as soon as she wakes up." David said with a glare over at Father Abraham as a sudden snap came from Sam's body.

They noticed that the snap had Sam's neck jerk. She had broken her neck when she had been thrown down the stairs. Quietly they all set down to wait for Sam to come around. Jerome cradled Lucy in her unconscious state, it was just too much for her to bear. Jerome had asked a few questions. He now knew that the girls were sirens and that David, and the boys were vampires, and that David was trying to save Sam with his blood. Jerome nodded as if it was the most natural thing in the world. He did explain that he was from New Orleans, supernatural capital of the world. Witches, ghosts, voodoo; Vampires did not surprise him. He worried about how Lucy would take it when she came around. He prayed that the mothering nature she had would just overcome it all and she would take it in stride and just be happy that Sam was alive.

Hours passed. Sam had not stirred. Lucy had come to and had been a mess when she saw her baby girl. Jerome held and consoled her and had explained everything that had happened. That Sam was alive. That David and the boys were vampires and that the girls were sirens. She didn't believe it at first of course but when Marko had looked up at her with his vampire face on, she became a believer. After that they all quietly sat. Well, they did after they tied and gagged Father Abraham.

The sun was setting behind the ocean when Sam twitched. Her body jerked and she lurched up. Her eyes were wild and confused. She was grasping at her throat and was gasping for air. David grabbed her face and spoke to her to get her to focus. It took a few minutes, but she finally did focus on him. She almost purred at him.

"Sammy?" Lucy said drawing her daughter's attention.

Samara looked over at her mother. She cocked her head to the side at first as David spoke to her. He was keeping her grounded and in focus. David held her hand and helped her stand. She nodded as David whispered to her. Her green eyes suddenly turned yellow as her head jerked towards the tied-up Father Abraham.

"You might not want to see this." David said to Jerome and Lucy.

"What?" Lucy asked.

Sam snarled like a wolf and lunged at Father Abraham, knocking the chair over breaking it. David smirked as Sam glared down at her prey. Father Abraham was afraid; it was plain as day on his face.

"Samara!" Lucy gasped.

Samara did not retract her focus from the man beneath her. She only spared her mother a glance as her face changed and her teeth elongated. Without a thought longer she lunged onto the man and plunged her new fangs deep within his throat. He jerked his body around trying to dislodge her. Being tied up, he could not do much. Sam drank deeply but she did not kill him. With a flourish she stopped and stood up from the man. Sam had regained all her faculties. She was herself again. Blood was on her face, down on her chin. Her focus was now able to be on her family and friends.

Dwayne, Paul, and Marko had proud looks on their faces. Cass and Mickey looked so relieved. Jerome was just neutral while her mother's was a mix of horror, relief, and motherly concern. David was so proud and happy. Samara moved to David and grabbed his hand. He pulled her to him and kissed her. The kiss turned to him having yellow eyes and licking the blood from her face and lips.

"Lucy, I think it is time for us to go." Jerome suggested.

Lucy sighed but approached Sam. Sam turned to her mother. Lucy hugged her tightly. Then she pulled away tears in her eyes. They talked for just a few moments. Lucy did not hate her daughter. She was concerned if she would be alright with the choice that had been made for her. She was worried for her. She loved her children and cherished them. All of them. Sam assured her that everything would be alright. She was alive and that everything would be fine. Lucy was assuaged for the time being and left with Jerome.

After Lucy and Jerome left all eyes turned to the bleeding and unconscious Father Abraham. He was still lying on the floor bound and gagged, bleeding from his throat. Sam approached him and squatted beside him. If he had never been trying to harm them, she would have felt pity for the man, but she felt nothing but cold anger.

"I want to save him for Maria. He hurt her the most. She will pass judgement on him." Sam said.

Paul and Marko hauled him to his feet, and he hung between them limply. With a flash they were gone with him. No one needed to even question where he was going. He would be held prisoner at the cave until Maria was released from the hospital. Until then they would visit Maria and act as if nothing was amiss. The police would never find whatever became of Father Abraham and they would make sure of it. Maria would get her chance at vengeance and Paul would be there to help her.
