Eda and Luz were at opposite sides of a table, glaring at each other. They were at an epic standoff between each other, where two enter the arena, but only one shall win. At first, it seemed like the odds were against Luz, as Eda had the advantage in this battle.
"Make your move, little girl."
Narrowing her eyes, Luz thought long and hard about her next step, and then it hit her. Even with it seemed like all was against her, she uses Eda's own strategy against and breaks out the one move Eda didn't see coming herself.
"Wild card." Luz said as she sets down a card with a tower on it, which glows green and sets all of Eda's cards on fire. The words "WINNER: LUZ" spell out in fiery letters as Luz sat back with a smirk on her face. "I win."
"Well, played. I've truly taught you well. It surprises me to see how you're able to learn the rules of Hexes Hold'em so quickly." Eda said, revealing that they were just playing a magic card game.
"Yeah, well we have a game like that back on earth." Luz said. "And as we all know, I'm a quick learner."
"And you're much more of an opponent that these two adorable dorks." Eda says, as she points to King and Owlbert.
King retorted by saying "Well, at least we're not as obsessed with the game as you are!"
"I am not obsessed with the game!"
"Please..." King said. "You go everywhere with your deck of cards! You challenge random strangers to a match! You do this almost every week!"
Luz then stood up, and began to back away towards the door, saying "As much as I'd love to get caught up in this, I promised Willow and Gus I'd meet up with them at the market. So, I'll see you guys later."
"Be careful, Luz." Eda said. "Since my sister now knows of your existence, and your heritage...I have doubt that you may have already been marked as a criminal...one marked worse than I."
"Thanks for the tip, Eda." Luz said while opening the door. "I'll be careful."
Bonesborough was something to see for Luz, as bizarre creatures that her family would not hesitate to strike down in a second were living almost practical every day lives, such as three witches standing at a bus stop as a giant egg rolls up to it. The egg cracks, revealing a featherless bird that screeches. It flies away, then the witches enter the egg, one of them closes it, and it rolls off as Tiny Nose runs up.
"Wait, wait! Aw, dang it!"
Luz found it to be funny, but her humor died down as loud footsteps were coming her way. Tiny Nose, screams and runs away at the sight of three brown cloaked humanoids came by, two of them pushing a cart that had a large demon on it. The demon bucks and growls at a chance to escape, but their leader, a demon with an eyepatch draws a spell circle and shocks the demon with lightning, rendering it unconscious. As they continue to pass by, the leader turns and sees Luz for a split second, but the human merely turns the other way, trying not to draw any attention to herself.
"Hopefully, I'll never see them again."
She continued forward until she Willow and Gus just ahead. As she walked up to them, she noticed to that the looked dejected and slump.
"Hey guys. What's wrong?"
"Oh nothing." Willow said before pointing over to a food stand. "Just them."
They see Amity hanging out with three other girls Luz recognized as students from Hexside, she saw them during that whole abomination golem incident. The dark-skinned girl with a pinkish-grey hair in a ponytail, and the red colors of her hexside uniform she was wearing was Skara, the other dark-skinned girl with brown wavy hair, square glasses and blue colors was Kat, and the third girl with pink skin, violet hair in a bun, yellow colors and third eye was Boscha. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, while Willow looked peeved.
"Amity's having a moonlight conjuring and invited everyone but me." She said.
"And she keeps posting about it on her Penstagram account." Gus added, taking out a scroll and opening to Amity's Penstagram post of her and her friends posing."
""It's conjuring night! No dorks allowed"? " Luz reads. "Unbelievable. And here I was, beginning to like her."
Amity and her friends walk by and Boscha couldn't help but laugh at the sight of Willow and Gus.
"Sorry you couldn't get an invite to the conjuring, Willow. Only real withes allowed." But then, Luz had gotten her attention, as she decided to turn towards her. She was looking at Luz like a curious cat, and it made Luz uncomfortable.
"What? See something you like?"
"Aren't you the Belmont?" Boscha asked, surprising Luz.
"How did you know about that?" She asked.
Boscha replied "Word got out about after the Covention, when you dueled with Amity. You're something else, Belmont."
"...Um, thanks?" Luz said, confusingly. Her family didn't really receive much respect from people. She recalled her ancestor, Trevor, having to live on the outskirts of Wallachia after the church miscommunicated the Belmonts from the land.
"I think a better question would be: why are you hanging out with this losers?" Boscha said, while pointing to Gus and Willow. "You'd be better off hanging out with us. As a matter of fact, why not join us for our Moonlight Conjuring tonight? You'd be more than welcomed to join us."
Luz looked at Amity with a disappointed look, making Amity turn away as Luz stood beside Willow and Gus.
"Willow and Gus happen to be my friends." Luz said and then growled "And I will not tolerate anybody who insults them."
The witches were detecting a powerful aura off of the human, one that practically said "I will kill you if you come near." And this made them step back and Luz stepped forward.
"So insult them one more time...I dare you."
"It's...It's okay, Luz. No need to rage out." Willow said, taking by Luz by the hand and making her calm down.
Luz sighed and then continued "And just for the record, Me, Willow and Gus are gonna be doing out own midnight conjuring."
"Moonlight Conjuring." Willow corrected.
"Whatever." Luz said. "And we're gonna do it better than you. So, ha."
Boscha then scowled and stepped forward, asking "Would you care to wager on that?"
"I might. What are we betting?"
"You have to stop hanging out with those two and join us instead." Boscha once again pointed to Luz's two friends.
Luz looked back at them, seeing the concern looks on their faces as she thought about it real quick. "Fine." She said before stepping towards Boscha. "But I promise you that I am going to make your life as miserable as possible for you if I lose."
Boscha felt Luz practically tower over her as she leaned forward and she leaned back. Never did she think that a human girl would be so scary. Amity was seeing Luz in a whole light than before, and was starting to feel bad about all this. Not to mention Luz was doing what she could never do for Willow. She felt as if she needed to make up for it...somehow.
"If you don't mind, Boscha..." Amity said. "I'd like to help them out...give them an even chance, so to speak. After all, one of them was born without talent."
She gestured to Willow, which irked her as it caused her magic to bring a vine from under the ground. Luz swatted it away before it could do anything.
"I guess." Boscha said reluctantly. "So much for having it at your place though. We'll see you later."
And with that, Boscha, Skara and Kat took their leave as Luz, Willow and Gus turned their attention over to Amity, who felt awkward about this.
"What are you playing at, Amity?" Willow asked. "Why would you want to join us?"
"Well...why not?" She asked back. "I mean...Luz doesn't mind. Right, Luz?"
"Way to put me on the spot their Amity." Luz said, unamused. "Look, it doesn't matter as long as we can still do this, right?"
"Right!" Gus said. "There's no reason as to why we can't be friends."
But then, there was some awkward silence as Willow glared at Amity, who looked sadly at Willow. But then, Luz put her hands on both of their shoulders.
"Just be ready to head back to my place by nightfall."
Now all Luz had to worry about was convincing Eda to having the conjuring down at the house. As they went their separate ways, little did they know that someone was eaves dropping on their conversation. A figure, cloaked in black, gives a sack full of gold to the Demon Hunters Luz had seen before.
"Make sure that the Belmont...is exterminated from this realm."
The Hunter Leader clutches the money as he and his partners now have a job to do.
"So Eda, I was wondering...can me and my friends do a Moonlight Conjuring tonight at the house?" Luz said, clapping her hands together as she waited for an answer.
"...Sure." Eda said.
"Oh, come on! Why can't I-wait. Did you say yes?"
"You can your conjuring at my house, on the condition that I chaperone." Eda explained. "And since conjuring hardly ever work, at least this will be short and sweet, so you can get it over it."
"Wow. Thanks for having faith in us, Eda."
"Anytime." She said. "So, when are these friends of yours coming over?"
Luz walked over to the door and opened to reveal that Willow, Gus and Amity were already at the door, and they were looking annoyed.
"We've spent the last hour listening to Hooty talk about himself." Amity said, unamused.
"And I was just getting to the good stuff! Hoot, hoot!"
Luz replied as she led them into the house "Sorry you had to go through the kind of torture. Anyway, welcome to the Living Room. Strangely enough, this room is actually living, given how the walls tend to breathe."
Willow looks at one of the walls and sees that it actually is in fact breathing. "Enchanting."
Gus was about to go through Eda's chest of human stuff, but the Owl Lady herself stopped him from opening it.
"Let's get one thing out of the way." She said. "As long as your under my roof, you follow my rules. And that means no touching."
"Eda agreed to have the conjuring set here as long as she chaperones." Luz explains. "So, unless you want to do this out in the woods, we're gonna have to follow her rules."
"That seems fair." Amity said. "Let's get started."
"I feel like I should ask...how does this work exactly?" Luz asked.
"Well first, we find something to animate." Willow explained, walking over to a flower pot. "Since it's our first time we should pick something meaningful. Something beautiful."
"Like this strangely buff little man?" Gus asked, holding an action figure, squeezing it as it said "I'm half beef, half bob!"
"I don't think that's what Willow had in mind, Gus." Luz said, as she and the other two see Gus giving them the puppy dog look.
"Okay. Buff boy it is." Willow said.
"Yes! Tonight he shall be risen!"
"I gotta get a camera." Eda said. Soon enough, they were in preparation to get their conjuring started, with candles around the four of them. Amity took lead.
"Now, in order for this to work properly, we must hold hands and say the incantation." She said strictly as they got into a circle and held hands around the figurine. Eda was filming this with a smile on her face, saying to herself "This is gonna be good."
"Try to keep, Luz." Amity said.
"Just start the chant, and I'll play along." Luz said, unamused.
"Moonlight, we call, we sing. Moonlight take this chance. Moonlight come tie the string. Moonlight start the dance!"
Unfortunately, the figure they planned to bring to life wasn't what got animated. Outside, Hooty looked up at the rising moon when it suddenly stopped. And then all of a sudden, a burst of light comes out of it and into the living room. This surprised the heck out of Eda, but it was also a shock to see that it didn't hit the target, but spread to the rest of the room.
"Uh, oh."
As the candles extinguished, they opened their eyes to see nothing out of the ordinary.
"Did it work?" Luz asked. "Doesn't look like the little guys alive."
"Oh, it worked..." Eda said, plainly. "Just...not in the way you hoped."
And then, the entire house began to rumble. Outside, Hooty blinked as his eyes turned glowing blue.
"What's going on?!"
"YOU ANIMATED MY HOUSE!" Eda screamed at the top of her lungs as outside, two large bird legs come from underneath the foundation of the house and rise up. Now, the house was a living being under the kids' control. This was not gonna be good, as they could feel the house walking through trees and Eda could see that they were nearing a cliff.
"Quick! Take your hands again and command this thing!"
Doing as told, the four steadied themselves and take each other's hands as Luz then yelled out loud "HOOTY, STOP!"
And then, the house paused, seconds away from falling off a cliff as everything seemed to be calm now. They could feel the house moving backwards The kids carefully walked outside without breaking contact, or falling off the edge to see their handiwork in play.
"Incredible." Amity said. "I've never seen this happen at a conjuring before. We're controlling an entire house!"
The others found it just as exciting as Amity, but not Eda, who stumbled towards the door, not finding it as exciting as them.
"Yeah...incredible, now can you please put my house back where it belongs before I puke?"
"Aw. And just when I thought of taking this thing out for a joyride." Gus said.
"Not on my watch." Eda said. "Now put this thing back before-GAAAH!"
"Eda!" Luz screamed
Caught off guard by the site of Eda getting shot at with electricity, and falling off the edge it was then the four noticed that the house was surrounded by the Demon Hunters, and other figures Gus, Willow and Amity weren't familiar with. But Luz saw the others, cloaked in black clothing, except for the red insignia they wore on their chest. A mark showing that they serve a Dark Lord.
"Demon Hunters?!" Amity said. "What do they want with us?!"
"They might want the house, seeing as it is a demon!" Gus yelled.
"What are we gonna do?" Willow asked in fear.
Luz gripped the hands of Gus and Willow tightly as she said out loud. "First of all, calm down and do exactly as I say!"
"Ow!" Gus and Willow exclaimed as Gus said "Luz, easy on the grip!"
The Demon Hunters had crossbows around the house as their leader gave the command to fire. However, they didn't even come close to securing the house as the bolts were kicked away by the house's giant legs. Luz was driving this beast and her friends were following her command. The other three watched in amazement as Luz had the house kick the hunters off the ground and sending them flying.
Meanwhile, inside the house, King was being flung around every which way as he was left unaware of what was going on.
"WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
"This is the coolest thing ever!" Gus said out loud.
The Hunter Leader was starting to look nervous, seeing as the army he was provided with was even going up in smoke. Literally, as some of the black figures were disappearing in puffs of smoke after Luz practically crushes them under her giant feet. But then, he thought he could see an opportunity as Eda was still on the ground, albeit struggling to recover from the shock and fall she just had.
"Even if I can't that little Belmont bitch, I'll be happy with the Owl Lady as my prize!" He growled.
Then, Eda stood up on her feet and summoned her staff. "I'm a prize you can't afford, asshole."
Luz and her friends managed to finish off the rest of the enemies when the saw the battle ensuing between Eda and Lead Hunter. This gives Luz an idea.
"Eda! Launch him up high!"
Eda could see where she was getting at and managed to overwhelm the hunter. She launched him high up in the air, and high enough for Luz to make her move.
"RRAAAA-" Then Luz kicked him like a soccer ball and sent him to what one could guess was the other side of the Boiling Isles. "That's how a real hunter does it." Luz said, looking proud for a moment, while the others looked a bit concerned.
"...Too far?" She asked. And soon after, did Eda fly back to the house.
"Okay. Fun's over. Now put my house back where it belongs before anything else goes wrong."
They did as told, bringing the house back to where it first rose from, sitting back down in perfect position, as if nothing ever happened. With the conjuring finished, the others took the opportunity to relax after their stressful night. But it was nothing too difficult for Luz, and she didn't even have to use the whip this time. Yet, she couldn't take her mind off the dark cloaked figures that were along side those Hunters.
"Man...that was insane." Gus said.
"I know. I never thought we'd do something like that." Willow added.
"Same here." Amity said next. "I've been to many conjurings before, but this is one I'll never forget."
"The inside of my house is in shambles." Eda began to say, while walking around. "My potions and human relics are scattered around the floor and half of the rooms have been flipped upside down...I'm so joining you guys for next year's conjuring.
"Yeah!" Guz explaimed. "What do you say Luz? ...Luz?"
They saw Luz looking out the window, watching the outside like a hawk.
"Luz, are you okay?" Willa asked asked.
"I'm fine." Luz answered. "Just curious. Those other people...with the hunters...the ones in black. Did anyone see what happened to them?"
"It was kinda hard to tell, considering we kicked them all around everywhere."
Luz the said "I recognized their colors...they serve a Dark Lord."
"A Dark Lord?" Amity asked, laughing a little. "Come on, Luz. Be serious."
And then, Luz threw her journal onto the table. "I am." She said as the journal was flipped open to a page where it showed something about Vampire Loyalist. The resemblance to the enemies they faced was uncanny, as they had the same colors, the same cloaks. There was no mistake what they just fought...were Vampire Soldiers.
"That hunter knew who I was." Luz said. "Those footsoldiers wore the same insignia as the ones in my journal. There's no mistaking it...someone's after me."
The others were starting to feel afraid, as Luz seemed to be dead serious about all this.
Eda then spoke up, saying "Luz, if what you say is true, then perhaps is best if you return home."
"No, Eda." Luz replied. "I'll be needed more than ever if I'm onto something. Besides, I still need more answers on my family's history, and this realm is the only place I can get them."
"...I'd be willing to help." Amity said, getting everyone's attention. "I can...look for anything at the Library. There's bound to be some history on your family there."
"You don't have to do that, Amity."
"I feel like I should, Luz. I'm trying to make up for things I did in the past." Amity says.
Luz then asked. "Is this about what happened at the Covention?"
"More than that." Amity said, turning to Willow for a second before heading out the door. "I'll see you guys around."
Luz gave her a two finger salute as Amity left. Then, she turned to Gus and Willow.
"I don't wanna get you guys involved in this. You have your own lives to life for."
"We don't mind helping out, Luz." Willow said. "This clearly means a lot to you."
"Plus, you already let us in on it when you told us about your special powers." Gus added.
Luz didn't want anyone to get caught in the crossfire, but in the hopes that Gus, Willow and Amity are able to take care of themselves, she is willing to accept their help. Eda almost wanted to believe that Lilith and the Emperor's Coven were the ones to send the Demon hunters after them, but if what Luz said is true, then there is a third hand in play here, and she's not sure if they're prepared to face it.
Amity kept most of what happened the other night to herself as she returned home. But what she wasn't prepared for was her parent's revealing some big news to her.
"It would seem that you've been requested to join a brand new class being introduced at Hexside." Amity's mother, Odalia Blight said while reading a note to her daughter. "One with even more opportunities than the Abomination Track."
"Really?" Amity said, surprised. "I don't believe it."
"Neither do I." Odalia said. "But, this note doesn't seem to be a forgery of any kind. I've verified that myself. This...may be a golden opportunity for you, Amity...I'm impressed."
"But I...didn't even..do anything to achieve this."
"Hmm...I don't believe that." The mother said to herself. Odalia was no fool. She was aware of her daughter's most recent encounters with the Belmont Girl. It wasn't even long before word has spread of last night's mishap. But Odalia was willing to let it all slide, as the brand track peaked her interest and she believed that Amity would be most interested in it as well. "Nonetheless, I believe you should attend this, dear. You'll be introduce to a new form of magic, never to be seen on the Boiling Isles. You may even surpass Lilith Clawthorne as Head of the Emperor's Coven one day.
"...Very well, Mother." Amity said, reluctantly. "What's this class about?"
Odalia replied "It has a very peculiar name. One I have not heard in a long time...Devilforging."
