A/N: Hello hello! This is super super random — Pride and Prejudice is an old love of mine that I haven't thought about in years. But I have so much crap I've written just sitting in my phone and I re-read this one and it was too cute to leave it unshared! Completely based on the 2005 Kiera Knightley movie version. It's kind of an extension of that final scene from Kitty's POV.

I do have a whole plot in my head for Kitty and Mary that maybe one day will be written, but for now its just a sweet little one-shot.

Disclaimer: I do not own Pride and Prejudice in any form (book, movie, tv series, etc).

Hope you enjoy!

Kitty awoke with a start.

"Get up, girls! Up! Something is happening!" She heard her mother squawking from downstairs, and Kitty sat up in bed quickly. Mary was sitting up in her bed as well, looking as confused as she felt.

As Kitty registered her surroundings, she recalled the exciting events of the day before. Mr. Bingley proposed to Jane. Lady Catherine de Bourgh showed up on their doorstep. What more could possibly be happening first thing in the morning?

Mrs. Bennet was still frantically shouting, and Kitty only caught bits and pieces of her talking to Jane. "He showed up… Lizzie… talking to Mr. Bennet… doesn't like him!"

Kitty leaped out of bed and scrambled down the steps. She was surprised to see Mary following close behind her. Mrs. Bennet and Jane were both standing by the door of the parlor, and Jane appeared to be doing her best to keep her mother from barging into the hall.

"…so rich!" Mrs. Bennet was saying. "She must agree, she must! We will all be saved!"

"Mama, what's going on?" Kitty asked.

Mrs. Bennet turned to her two younger daughters. "Oh girls! Mr. Darcy is here! For Lizzie!"

"Mr. Darcy?" Kitty scrunched up her nose in disgust.

"Lizzie?" Mary asked just as dubiously.

"Yes! He is asking Mr. Bennet right now for your sister's hand in marriage! I must make sure she agrees —" She turned back to the door that Jane was blocking.

"Mama," Jane interjected. "You must keep your voice down."

"I will not let her turn down another well-off man. And certainly not one that is downright wealthy!"

"Mama let her be!" Jane argued. "I do not think she is going to turn him down."

Mrs. Bennet threw her hands in the air and huffed in exasperation. She began pacing around the room.

"But she doesn't like him, Jane," Kitty said. "Nobody likes him. And you know how she is about having to 'like' a man before she marries him."

Jane shook her head. "When Mr. Darcy came asking to speak with Papa, Lizzie looked absolutely euphoric. I have no idea what could have changed her mind."

"Where is Lizzie now?" Kitty asked.

"She is in the hall, waiting for Papa to finish with Mr. Darcy," Jane answered. "He wanted to speak to both of them."

Kitty snorted and sat down on the steps. Leave it to Lizzie to preach about not being persuaded by money, only to marry the richest, proudest, most unpleasant man on the planet!

"I find it hard to like anybody," Mary belatedly chimed in. Kitty rolled her eyes.

It went silent as everyone waited, with only the sound of Mrs. Bennet's nervous huffs and sighs to entertain them.

The door to the parlor finally opened and Kitty and Mary quickly stood up as Mr. Darcy entered. The tall, dark-featured man glanced at each of them with his solemn, piercing eyes and nodded in greeting. They all curtsied back, and not even Mrs. Bennet said anything.

Mr. Darcy looked at Jane a second time.

"Might I step outside?" He asked quietly, the question directed to Jane.

Jane nodded before finding her voice. "Of course," she gestured to the front door. Mr. Darcy gave another polite nod and then quickly left the house.

Kitty could not for the life of her figure out what he was thinking. He looked like he might be nervous, or maybe he was hopeful, or maybe both? It was hard to tell with him. To Kitty he always just looked sour, if not a bit snooty.

Mr. Darcy began pacing quite deliberately outside, and the four women watched him out the window. Kitty sat back down on the steps.

Kitty could not believe this. Lizzie had now been proposed to twice. Kitty hadn't even been considered by anyone once! And Lizzie wasn't even pretty!

Not that Kitty thought either of Lizzie's prospects had been particularly attractive, but at least this pompous man was rich.

What was she doing wrong?

Kitty suddenly missed her younger sister dearly in that moment. Lydia always had an answer for every situation. Even one as bizarre as this one.

"He's Mr. Bingley's good friend, you know," Jane murmured, a wide smile on her face. "Lizzie and I will be able to see each other very often!"

"But she doesn't like him," Mrs. Bennet pondered in bafflement. "I thought she didn't like him."

"We must have been wrong," Jane responded with a laugh.

Kitty looked at Mary, who was watching Mr. Darcy pace out the front door. The older girl rocked back and forth, bumping the doorframe lightly with her back each time. Kitty suddenly felt a rush of dread. How did she end up being the last sister left at home? First Lydia left, and now they were losing Jane and Lizzie at the same time. Kitty would be left alone with Mary, who was bland, pessimistic, and likely destined to become an old maid! That meant that Kitty would have to deal with her mother's fussing all by herself and —

The door burst open again. Kitty hardly had time to stand up before Lizzie rushed past all of them to the front porch.

Jane had been right. Lizzie's face was glowing with happiness.

Mr. Darcy instantly stopped pacing and looked right at Lizzie. For the first time since knowing the man, Kitty saw him smile.

"Oh Lizzie!" Mrs. Bennet cried, rushing after her. Jane, Kitty, and Mary followed.

"I'm so happy for you, Lizzie!" Jane exclaimed, giving her a hug. "I expect a full explanation later," she insisted quietly.

"I promise," Lizzie replied.

"Oh my wonderful girl!" Mrs. Bennet placed her hands on both of Lizzie's cheeks and kissed her three times. "You are going to be so rich…" she turned to Mr. Darcy and rushed to curtsy ten times over to him. "Thank you, Mr. Darcy, thank you, thank you, thank you…"

Kitty smiled at her sister. "I can't believe it," she said. "You and Jane both engaged in less than a full day!"

"You are getting married?" Mary asked, clearly having missed the implication that an agreement had been reached.

"Yes, she is getting married, Mary!" Kitty exclaimed in exasperation. "Gosh, do you even live in the same house?"

Mary opened her mouth to retort, but was interrupted by Mrs. Bennet's loud squeal of excitement.

Lizzie laughed.
