Remus supposed he should be thankful. The wizards wanted to leave him on Earth, as they had with the Dementors. But it was the Goblins who decided who they saved.
Maybe they shouldn't have. Remus whimpered, as he was curled up on the ground... unable to change back. He was stuck in his werewolf form. Being trapped on the source of the wolf, he was always a wolf. Strangely, after being trapped in this form for a few weeks...
Werewolves, like himself, were given one of the lower decks of the moon. They didn't have to stay here, but Wizards passed laws, preventing Werewolves from living on the surface... Werewolves, like Greyback, really made things difficult for the more tame ones.
The ceiling, exactly 5 kilometers above the floor, was enchanted to look like the void of space, that surrounded them. With bioluminescent plants all around, giving them light. It was quite the beautiful forest. With a meat like substance, growing off the trees. As well as plenty of berries growing everywhere.
The abundance of these foods, made it easy for settlements to pop up, anywhere and everywhere. With not even the smaller packs having to worry about fighting over resources. It even made it easy for lone werewolves, called Omegas, to survive. So Remus didn't have to worry about stealing food from any of the packs.
Remus had just been wandering aimlessly. Stuck in his scrawny wolf form. He had brought with him an expanded suitcase. Which he charmed to follow him.
At first, the floating case, had irritated the wolf. The beast had spent a good deal of time attacking it. Which is why Remus bought an indestructible one.
The wolf even tried to outrun it, but gave up after a week. Finally calming down, and allowing Remus to show it how to open the case.
The wolf had calmed down, and Remus started to be able to think again. Remus was able to convince the wolf to go into the case. To get them a warm meal, and to rest by the fireplace.
Ever since, Remus had been able to think more clearly. He didn't even feel the Wolf's pain... it was as if the wolf was lonely without him. So it let him think.
Oh that first week was hell, the savage thing ran around, getting in fights with other wolves, and clawing up trees... and himself, but eventually, it figured out it wasn't going to be caged again. That Remus couldn't turn back to human. So the wolf relaxed... and they had been living in a type of bizarre Harmony ever since.
"How you getting on?"
Remus groaned as he turned to face the voice. It's owner was a tall, ridiculously gorgeous, being. With long brown hair, going passed his shoulders, and a slender figure... yet he smelled old. Thousands of years old. Maybe even 10s of thousands. Despite looking in his early 30s. Yet the most remarkable thing? He was in his human form.
He was a Lycan, one of the original werewolves. The Alpha of the Lycan pack... and he wouldn't leave Remus alone.
Lucian stepped beside the young werewolf, and looked at the artificial sky. He didn't feel like he was missing much. Given it was a perfect reflection of what was around the moon.
" How many times do I have to tell you," Remus spoke, but not really. It was more like he thought at the Alpha, and he understood. " I don't want to join your pack."
Lucian sighed, "You're manners could do with some training. All I want is some pleasant conversation. I don't usually interact with a gift as diluted as your's. It's a humbling experience."
Remus sneered, " I hardly think of it as a 'gift'."
"Only because you never learned how to coexist with the wolf. The 'curse', if you prefer, fights against you, only because you attempt to cage it." Lucian sighed, "But enough of politics. I legitimately only come here to see how you're adapting."
" Because I'm an 'Omega'," Remus sneered.
Lucian gave another sigh. "If you're so insistent on talking about this then yes, precisely that. Wolves are not meant to be packless, I worry for you... Mostly I worry, if you don't accept one of the Alphas offers soon, one of them will attempt to force you to join. To which you will of course refuse... right up until the moment they kill you."
Remus growled, and damn him, it sounded far too feral.
"Do you know how Werewolves came to be?" Lucian asked.
Remus snorted. He wasn't normally so aggressive... but living here...
"You come from my kind, falling in love with humans, and having a child together. There is no 'curse' or 'damnation'. You have a harder time coexisting with your wolf, simply because your human instincts cause you to fight against it. But that doesn't mean it's impossible. That you can't master yourself. That you can't learn to change at will."
" I DON'T WANT TO!!!" Remus snapped, bearing his teeth.
"You mean to say," Lucian smirked. "You want to be a wolf forever."
Remus could feel the wolf scream, " Yes!!!" it had no intention of letting Remus back in the driver's seat
However, when Remus turned to face the Lycan... the expression on his face... he looked...
" Why do you care what I do?" Remus forced his eyes away.
"..." Lucian stayed quiet a moment. "However diluted, I can still smell her on you."
He looked like a parent that's child insisted on hurting themselves.
Remus blushed, keeping his eyes on the artificial sky.
Lucian continued, "When I married a human. I didn't realize how short her lifespan would be. We Lycans are incapable of dying of old age... and I lost her in a few short decades. I didn't even get a century with her.
"I didn't dare mark her. As my kind had learned long ago, our venom, which is used purely in mating rituals, is deadly to most other lifeforms.
"The Venom mutated, in our offspring, and became a way for 'werewolves' to turn others... it became a way for them to reproduce...
"Regardless, I imagine she'd be horrified to know someone like Greyback was descended from our children."
Remus sighed, " He bit me... when I was only five. As apparently my father had slighted him in some way... he left me with them, only because he thought it was a sweeter punishment. Normally, he kidnaps the children he turns."
Lucian shrugged, "Human children are more likely to survive the bite. Although it's better to turn teenagers. As they are mature enough to actually be offered immortality, and family. Younger then that, The kids tend to go feral, as the wolf overwhelms their sensibilities... which is apparently something Greyback wants. He is... a rather vile thing."
Remus jerked his head back at the Lycan. " Then why didn't you stop him!"
Lucian smiled, "What would you have me do? I have no desire to become an Alpha amongst Alphas. I can hardly control everything my descendants do. There are, quite literally, thousands of them.
"Besides, I'm not the only Lycan that laid with a human. We have treaties of non-interference, with our werewolf descendants. Not unless they willingly join our packs."
Remus rolled his eyes.
