Charlie Granger sighed, as he and his wife landed their brooms on the roof of the hospital.
With Dentistry no longer being a viable career path, due to potions that did his job much more efficiently then himself... he had to find a new job.
Thankfully, the town had paid the goblins to upload all their medical knowledge, into all the healers heads... but, since he and his wife were "Muggles", they could only get jobs as orderlies, not "Healers".
Most "Muggles" actually had better jobs then they used to have, with "House Elves" handling all the tedious, or unsavory jobs. Which was a whole other can of worms.
Many of the mundane population, had opened up their own family businesses, inside the mall. Selling muggle gizmos. While hiring magical teenagers to enchant them with simple runes and permanent charms, fueled by crystals. To make them more appealing to magicals.
Other "Muggles" decided to open various hang outs, in different districts of the mall. Bars, lounges, restaurants, Arcades. Even game shops, that doubled as places to play the games. All hiring magical teens to give the place a more wonderous atmosphere.
Then most "Muggles" with doctorates, even found ways to make use of them. Helping the magicals understand the Sciences, and working with them to better mankind... which included far more then humans.
It was just the medical Doctors that suffered... as the medical field now REQUIRED the use of magic. He could only get a job as an orderly... cleaning bedpans and helping patients get from place to place.
He used to have his own dentistry practice, but potions made that a laughable career.
Charlie would have prefered to stay on Earth... if the Goblins hadn't told him they were leaving with the moon. The sheer level of gravimetric forces, from that... Well, Charlie wouldn't be surprised if the magicals hadn't, inadvertently, slaughtered half the planet.
Inara sat in her new office, of the Wizarding Geisha Academy. These mages were mostly readers, like River, but their were others who merely came from noble families.
She was a little shocked that both their cultures versions of the Japanese language, had hardly evolved apart. It was the same for English, she supposed. Oh there were a few differences in pronunciation, and more then a few new words she didn't know, but for the most part, they were exactly the same.
Inara was an educated woman, and spoke many dead languages. Which served her well, as on this world, those same tongues were in common use.
Dudley stepped into the room, looking much thinner, stronger, and taller. The geisha had been feeding the boy potions, which converted his fat to muscle. With their aid, he really was growing into a beautiful child, and would undoubtedly become a very handsome man.
The boy was also much better behaved. Oh there had been some rocky moments, and a surprisingly large number of tantrums. But Inara mostly cured the boy of those, before they ever left the ship. She was a companion, after all. Schooled in compassion, as well as manipulation. She was able to help the boy become his best self.
Which is why she was so shocked to see a red letter in the boy's hand.
"Oh Dudley," Inara sighed.
The boy blushed, before exclaiming. "It wasn't my fault!!!"
Inara sighed again, before holding out her hand for the letter. The boy hesitantly handed it over.
The letter was in Japanese characters, which Dudley had yet to learn to read... and these wizards rarely wrote in. Their written language was actually the butched English version of the Japanese language. With the characters being reserved for formal occasions.
Inara quickly read over it. With the Headmistress explaining she had to cane Dudley... for biting a girl.
Apparently, the girl had been bullying him. Telling him he could never become a geisha because he was a boy. Which just wasn't true. Then saying Dudley must like "Yaoi", if he even wants to enter this line of work. This resulted in a wrestling match, and the girl being bitten... after she got the boy in a choke hold.
Thankfully, the girl had been punished as well.
However, "Dudley," Inara gave yet another sigh. "We've talked about you solving problems with your fist."
The boy immediately looked down, in shame. "I'm sorry, Inara. It's just she kept goading me and... I don't know. I lost it..."
Inara gave in to the need to sigh. "Dudley, you'll often run into people who speak ill of this profession. If you don't think you can handle that-"
"I CAN!!! Dudley swore. "I wanna be a geisha! I'm sorry, Inara! Please don't take me out of school."
Inara gave a pleasant smile, "I wouldn't think of it. But you know you don't have to follow in my footsteps. You're a good boy, and I'd be proud no matter what profession you chose. But a companion requires a lot of self discipline. You fell short today, as did this girl, but that doesn't mean neither of you can't do better. You have a very compassionate heart. It just needs to be nurtured."
"Are... are you gonna beat me?" Dudley nervously asked.
Inara gaped. "Why would you ask that?"
"Well..." Dudley rung his hands. "I'm your ward now... and when Harry did something freakish-"
"Neither of you are 'freakish'," Inara was adamant. "It was your parents that were abnormal. What they put both of you boys through was wrong, and stunted your development."
Dudley had heard that a lot these past few months... to the point he was starting to believe it. The therapy sessions, Inara had arranged with one of the house mothers, was helping him see that... and making him realize he probably owed Harry an Apology.
