The Chissian ship landed on the moon, at a safe distance from the base that Corso suspected held the scientists they were looking for. No matter what the situation was, Corso was determined to get them out. They remained in stealth mode while waiting for the Paladins to arrive. Corso smirked as he received their previously agreed upon call sign.
Corso told Bertrand to open the hatch to let the Paladins in.
He shook his head when he noticed Solaris and Zoltar among the group.
"Don't you two have kids?" He smiled as he greeted them.
Solaris smirked.
"That's exactly why we're here." She joked.
Corso laughed.
Zoltar was more serious.
"We've picked up the signals of two larger ships headed this way. We couldn't identify them. But we did find out about their cargo." He told Corso.
Corso frowned.
"Tell me more."
At Genesis, there were mixed emotions. They were thrilled over the breakthrough with the Resonance. Sonny was cautiously optimistic. If this worked, things looked up for the Flux Masters and the galaxy. When Artie called, Sonny knew they had to be quick.
The images on Arties transmitter worried him. They had no AntiFlux for what they carried.
Brim Balarius' words haunted him. At the brink of war.
He couldn't let that happen.
His trail of thought was cut off as he felt Dame Simbai touch his arm.
She looked worried.
"We need to do something, but I'm not sure where to start." She said.
Sonny could only nod.
Thran was busy with something. Sonny walked over to him.
"Thran, can you work with Clamp on preparing more of this Mix? I need to meet with Duke Maddox." He said.
Thran nodded. Clamp looked at Sonny with anxiety.
"You're scaring me, Sonny." He confessed.
Sonny patted his friend's shoulder.
"We'll stop them, Clamp, I don't know how, but we will." He said.
Brim Balarius nodded.
"I will accompany you to this meeting, it's time I told Duke Maddox just what we're up against."
The slave camps were a depressing sight. The Pirates kept their heads low. This was enemy territory.
Their first order of business was to scout the area. They split into groups of three. D'Jok, Micro Ice and Artie were one group.
Artie had noticed a small settlement. Slaves, very likely. Bennett and Stevens came up with a plan.
"One of us has to get captured, so we have someone inside." Stevens said.
"We can't send in D'Jok or Micro Ice, they'd be too recognizable." Artie pointed out.
Bennett nodded.
"So who will get in?" Micro Ice asked.
D'Jok smirked as he placed an arm around Micro Ice.
"No one has ever seen the faces of the players on The Pirates football team, right?" He asked.
"True." Stevens commented.
Artie nodded.
"Alright, Stevens. Best of luck. And be safe out there. " Artie said.
Duke Maddox just finished his dinner when he received the call. Sonny Blackbones and Brim Balarius were on their way to his office. Duke Maddox stood up as they entered his office.
"Bad news, I gather?" He stated.
Sonny nodded.
"That would be correct. We need to prepare an attack." He said.
Duke Maddox didn't like the sound of it.
"The destruction of the Circle of Fluxes was a deliberate attempt to weaken our defenses. We must put all planets on alert." Brim Balarius said.
Duke Maddox looked at him.
"Let me guess, Technoid has been pulled into this behind my back?" He asked, looking at Sonny.
Sonny nodded.
"It wasn't your fault. This plan was put in motion a long time ago. I always suspected Bleylock had something bigger going on. Now, I have enough of the pieces to see what this was all about." Sonny said, and handed a disc to Duke Maddox.
The Duke didn't say a word, just took the disc behind his desk and put it into a slot to bring up the content on screen.
As the disc finished, he looked at them.
"We must take immediate action. How is the Resonance cure progressing?" He asked.
"I need some more testing but it goes in the right direction." Sonny said.
Duke Maddox looked relieved.
"We may be able to stop a war from destroying our galaxy, like it did with Andro Zygna." He said.
Duke Maddox was shocked.
"How are you so sure? Do you even know how many other Galaxies they've destroyed?" Duke Maddox thundered.
Sonny nodded.
"I'm well aware. That's why we have to push through." He said.
Duke Maddox touched his shoulder.
Sonny turned halfway
"Just tell me everything you know."
Micro Ice and D'Jok looked at Stevens. They'd never seen him without a mask before. Bennett gave Stevens some face make up and made some artificial scarring just in case they DID recognize him. Soon, they were ready to get going. D'Jok and Micro Ice would be in the third group, if the first infiltration was a success.
Stevens and his companion Kate went in, undetected. The other Pirates waited in a cave for a few days. After a week, Kate reported in. She and Stevens made some connections inside the camp, with someone that knew who Kuun was. Kuun disobeyed often, and was being punished just as often. Stevens asked permission for a dangerous plan to try and locate Kuun. Everyone listened attentively. Stevens was risking his life with this, and he needed a partner from the outside.
"A distraction, right. Micro Ice, how about the two of us?" He asked.
Artie looked shocked.
"I can't let you do that, D'Jok, Sonny would never forgive me." He tried.
D'Jok smiled.
"What he doesn't know won't hurt him. And once I'm inside, I can use my Flux to break everyone out." He said.
Bennett was unconvinced.
Micro Ice looked at Artie.
"Does anyone else have a better plan?" He asked.
"Sonny would never trust me again." Artie argued.
Bennett laid a hand to his shoulder.
"I don't like it either but the kid's right. What else can we do?" He said.
Artie nodded.
"Fine, but don't do anything stupid. Stick to the plan." He said.
D'Jok nodded.
"Trust me Artie, this will work."
Corso and his team were moving closer to the compound. Corso couldn't help but remember how eerily similar to Ascaron this all looked. Corso signaled his group to move forwards, closer to the compound. After spending some hours keeping an eye out, Corso decided they would wait till nightfall to make an entry. He needed to brief his team and the Paladins on the plan. Also, he wanted to check in on Callie and Sonny. He smiled as he saw Callie's face.
"Just wanted to check in. How's it going?" Corso asked. Callie looked tired.
"I'm fine. Just tired." She said.
"Alright. How's Sonny?" Corso asked.
Callie smiled.
"Why don't you ask him?" She said.
Corso had to agree.
"I'll be home in a few days if everything goes right." He told her.
Callie nodded.
"Good luck." She said. Corso nodded as he hung up and called Sonny.
Sonny was tired after his meeting with Duke Maddox. Brim Balarius looked at him as they left the Technoid building.
"I hope you're up to the task. We might need you as a Flux Master." He said.
Sonny nodded, but he felt unsure. That Weapon needed to be taken out.
"I just hope the effects of the Resonance Cure are permanent.. We don't really have the time for more research." He said.
Brim Balarius nodded.
"The surviving members of the Flux Society and myself will assist in any way we can. Until we meet again." He said as they reached the door. Sonny bade him farewell and headed home.
Corso was ready. The talk with Sonny came with positive news for himself and Bertrand. A cure for the resonance was found and it was being produced. General Bleylock was worried about the close proximity of the base of the renegade scientists. Corso didn't blame him. That Weapon was too powerful. He checked all the numbers and talked with his elite team before they got ready. They had two tasks; get the scientists out, and take out the Weapon.
Once it was dark, they moved in. Getting in was the easy part.
Once they were in, Corso sent off half his team, equipped with the tools needed to safely transport the scientists to safety, off to the area where laboratories were seen on the map they had of the place.
Hawk Tidman assisted them.
His team headed towards the room that held the Weapon. It was heavily guarded. Corso gritted his teeth as he saw the Guards. Corso and his team used another device to slide through the wall to the room the weapon was in. There were only two people in here; scientists by the look of it. As soon as they were neutralized, Corso and his team opened up the Weapon. Corso grinned as he checked. Now the fun began.
D'Jok and Micro Ice both snuck in after Stevens had failed to report. They decided to pose as prisoners and they managed to establish contact with the people in the village. Stevens was laying low, as it was harder to get out then to get in. When they asked about Kuun, people fell quiet. When they met up with him, Stevens found some answers. Kuun was trying to stage a rebellion. Right now he was hiding to avoid the authorities. They managed to get a location eventually.
That night, they were getting ready to meet up with Kuun.
The cave they found themselves in was huge, and in the middle was a Sphere. Everyone was shocked since they didn't expect to see one of those again. D'Jok wanted to contact Sonny right away. He needed to know.
They soon were approached by a Chissian man who looked a lot like Corso.
Kuun Takashi waved at them.
"Welcome to Hell."
