The morning came so quickly. Haruhi yawned as she rolled towards me. "What do you wear to a 'hey, stuff happened to me, and now he's my boyfriend' gathering?" She asked, her eyes still closed.
I took a moment to think. "Well, for you, something aerodynamic to escape the inevitable hugs. For myself, though, I've considered one of those suits that people wear while they train police dogs." She snickered.
"You could take Tamaki."
"I am definitely stronger, but he has a 'father's love.'"
She opened her eyes and sat up on her elbow. "Oh, gross, you made it weird."
"I have a feeling that Hikaru is going to take it worse than Tamaki did."
"We don't really know how Tamaki took it."
"Yeah, well…" I was interrupted by a loud, rhythmic banging on my door. I sighed. "Speak of the devil…"
"It is literally 7:00am, there is no way."
I got up out of bed, hastily putting my glasses on as I walked towards the door. "You underestimate him." I opened the door, and Tamaki came barreling through, in a way only Tamaki Suoh could. "Tamaki, you know how I feel about early morning visits…" I rubbed my eyes a little, still trying to fully wake up.
"Well, I could hardly sleep thinking about the atrocities I've just learned about! How was-" He sputtered before Haruhi quietly interrupted from her spot in the bed.
"Well, a fine good morning to you too, Senpai, geez." She groaned as she started sitting up.
"Oh, good morning, Haru- YOU TWO SHARE KYOYA'S BED?!" He screeched.
"Only every night." Haruhi yawned, clearly not ready to put up with Tamaki yet. She stood up out of the bed, revealing to Tamaki that she only had on one of my tank tops. It was long enough to be considered a relatively modest dress on her, but you could clearly see the panic on Tamaki's face.
"AH. UH. I swear I didn't look!" He yelped, turning himself around towards me.
"Oh no, Haruhi. Shoulders. His one weakness." I joked, looking past Tamaki at her.
"What scandal." She added, as she walked to the bathroom, closing the door behind her.
Tamaki stayed silent for a moment before looking me dead in the eyes. "HOW DID YOU NOT TELL ME?!"
I shrugged. "We weren't ready to. To be completely honest, we've been trying to figure out an appropriate way to tell everyone since we began dating."
He leaned in closer to me, and began whispering in more of a hushed yelling tone. "Is she… Okay, now?" He heard the bathroom door open again, and I could see the panic run through his body.
"I mean. No. But yes. It's the most okay I've been in a long time." Haruhi said casually, now wearing a pretty pastel pink silk robe I'd bought her not too long ago. "If you mean about my dad, it's still hard. But, I think I'd be more worried about myself if I thought I was completely okay." She walked over to me, and laced her fingers between mine. "As for the whole 'dating Kyoya' thing, feel free to quiz me on it, I know you have a million follow-up questions, and I'd much rather talk about that." She smiled.
Tamaki took nearly no time to ask question one. "Does he treat you like a perfect gentleman?!"
"Well, last night after we left the party, he carried me to the car, so I wouldn't have to put my shoes on, if that gives you an answer."
Tamaki looked at me for a second, gave a slight nod of approval, then went back to Haruhi. "Where did he take you on your first date?"
"That place that's like a jungle but inside that I can never remember the name of."
"I tripped trying to dance with her." I added.
Haruhi actually smiled, turning to Tamaki, and pointed to me. "He was literally the worst teacher in the WORLD."
"I stumbled one time."
"Yeah, uh-huh." She laughed. Tamaki smiled a little.
"Haruhi, so long as you're happy, and safe, here, you will have no backlash from me. I'm sorry you had to go through everything that you did, and that we couldn't be there to support you." He said, sounded genuine.
"Well…" Haruhi started.
"What do you mean 'well?'" Tamaki replied quickly.
"Well… the only person I meant to tell was Kyoya. And even that was circumstantial, but… Kaoru's known, too. About everything." Tamaki looked immediately offended.
"I didn't even get to be the first to know about you two!?"
I interjected, "To be fair, Tamaki, the plan originally was to tell you all at once."
"Well, what happened to that plan, I like that plan!"
"Kaoru caught me picking up all of Haruhi's things while he was trying to drop off her homework to her apartment. He pretty much walked into the same thing you did, but instead of it being empty, I was there. He later put it together that we had eventually become an item." I told him.
"And Mori-Senpai tried to kill him once." Haruhi said, jokingly, pointed at me. "He tried to kiss me when we were alone in the music room. I told him no, in a not-at-all serious way, and Mori came out of nowhere and pinned him down."
"He deserved an explanation after such an act of heroism." I laughed.
Tamaki groaned. "So, you're telling me Hikaru and Hunny also know, then? By proxy? I'm the last to know?!"
Haruhi rubbed the back of her neck. "Well, Hunny knows that we're dating, but we still have no idea really how he found out. He doesn't know anything about Dad."
"Hikaru still doesn't know anything, as far as we are aware." I added.
"How on Earth do you expect Kaoru not to tell him!?" He exclaimed.
Haruhi sighed. "I feel like I would have heard about it by now. Hikaru isn't really a subtle dude."
"Trust me, Kaoru has been asking me about it more than enough for the two of them." I rolled my eyes.
"THAT'S WHY YOU TWO HAVE BEEN TALKING MORE LATELY…" He yelled.
"He asks me a thousand questions a day about my love life, yes." I groaned.
Haruhi pointed to the door to the hallway. "Hey, I'll be back in a few, okay?" Tamaki and I nodded as she headed out.
Tamaki stared into my soul for a good few moments, before he stepped forward and hugged me. I was never a big hugger, but this one felt weirdly right. I reluctantly hugged him back briefly before he pulled away.
"Thank you, for everything you've done for her, Kyoya." I could see tears in his eyes.
"I would like you to know, dating her wasn't my intention when I brought her here. She has a separate bedroom down the hall. I just wanted her to be safe and well taken care of, and I knew she could have that here. She's seen more than her fair share of our doctors over the past few months, and even though she hates them, I'm very glad she has the access to them." I paused for a moment. "I never expected her to kiss me. But, Tamaki, I'm so glad she did. And I am, admittedly, delighted that I can now talk to you about it."
Tamaki looked emotional. "Oh, Kyoya! I never thought I'd see you BLUSH before! This is so exciting!"
"You're ruining it."
"Oh come on, catch me up, tell me everything.
I sighed. "I took her to the jungle themed healing facility when she was still hurt, just to get her out of the house. She splashed me in the pool, and somehow that turned into her kissing me, which turned… never mind. But, we never went back. I told her I loved her that day. I'd realized that I'd loved her for a really long time, I just never even considered that I'd have a chance."
"While that's very sweet, I'm going to have to bring you back to 'never mind', WHAT DO YOU MEAN NEVER MIND?! ON THE FIRST DATE, KYOYA?!"
Haruhi walked back in the room as Tamaki was yelling in my face.
"No, Tamaki. Not on the first date. Not for lack of trying, though. SOMEONE kept calling and really ruining the mood." She said through a laugh. She was now fully dressed in a t-shirt dress and some buckled sandals.
He took a moment to process. "WHAT 'TRYING' WAS GOING ON THERE, KYOYA?!" He yelled, even throwing in a little laugh himself. I think he was actually excited to give me grief about this. But now Haruhi had to pay for throwing me under the bus like that.
"Ask the 'trier'." I smirked as I pointed to Haruhi. He looked over at her, and she just shrugged.
"He's attractive, what can I say?"
Tamaki continued to stare at her, before holding up a single finger, signally for her to give him a moment. He quickly turned me around. He held up his hand subtly for a high five.
"I can not high five you literally directly in front of my girlfriend. It feels disrespectful."
"Oh come on, high five him. He's earned it." She laughed, walking further into the room to put our bed back in order.
I followed her request, and high fived him quietly.
Now, instead of avoiding talking to my best friend about the love of my life, I actually got to talk to him. And maybe brag a little. But just a little.
