It's been about a month since Will and Jay had found out about Emmy and taken her in. Will and Jay had both moved out of their small apartments, they had eventually put their money together and gotten a small house for the three of them. Each sibling had their own space. Will was on night shifts while Jay worked during days, one of them was almost always with Emmy.

Jay was still very cautious about having her at the district, he knew in his line of work his family can easily be put in danger because of him. All it took was one person to see her and that would put a target on her back. That wasn't happening. But he also knew he couldn't keep his sister a secret from his team much longer, it just would be a matter of time before they figured it out.

One morning Jay woke up to his alarm blaring, why did 6 am have to come so fast? He got up and stretched. Grabbing some clean clothes he headed for the shower. Once he was showered, changed and he shaved he had to go wake Emmy up. The eleven-year-old was fast asleep buried under the covers. The young detective had gone in and gently shook her shoulder.

"Emmy. Em. Time to get up" Jay said, shaking her shoulder.

"Go away. Too early" She mumbled.

"You gotta get ready for school. Let's go up and at'em"

"Five minutes"

"The last time I let you do that you overslept and was late"

She groaned and got up. "Can we at French toast for breakfast?"

"Sure. Now get ready for school"

The young girl had gotten up and made her bed quickly. She grabbed her clothes for school and headed for the shower. Jay was in the kitchen making breakfast, since he hardly cooked Erin had been teaching him it took some time but his food became edible.

Will had walked in exhausted, he set his stuff down and poured him some coffee. Jay glanced to see his brother. "You look like hell"

"Feel like it too" He said, taking a swing of his coffee.

"You should sleep, I'll take Em to school"

"That sounds good. I hadn't had a break all night. There was a shooting and multiple victims. They kept coming in one after another"

"Sorry man"

"I had one, a kid. His name was Michael. He was maybe a year or so older than Emmy. He didn't make it"

The young detective put a hand on his shoulder. "I'm really sorry Will"

"Even though it's been a month, I don't wanna lose her"

"We won't. I'll tell everyone about Emmy today. They'll help me protect her"

"Jay I never stopped you from telling them about Emmy. I don't mind if they know"

"I don't either. I worry if it gets out that we have her. I put a lot of people away, they'll want pay back. That's not gonna be you or Emmy"

"I'm a big boy Jay, I can take care of myself. It's our job to worry about Emmy"

Before Jay could respond, the eleven-year-old came down dressed for school. She was in a light green shirt with jeans and green sneakers. Her hair was in a ponytail, on her shoulder was her backpack.

"Good morning" She says to her brothers.

"Morning kiddo" Will replies.

"Here's your breakfast. And you're lunch" Jay spoke, setting a lunch box beside her.

"Thanks. Who's gonna pick me up after school?" She took a bite of her french toast.

"If I'm awake I will" Will answered.

"Am I gonna go with you to the hospital?"

"If Jay's not home in time then yes"

"I'll be home in time," Jay assured them.

"Maybe I can stay by myself if Jay's not home in time" Emmy suggested.

"Not happening" Both brothers said in union.

"Why not?"

"One, you're too young. Second, we don't want anything bad to happen to you" Will answered.

"Nothing won't happen"

"You can't be sure of that," Jay spoke.

She groaned. "Fine"

Will had gone to bed so he could get some sleep before his shift that night. Jay had grabbed his gun and badge, Emmy grabbed her lunch box and backpack. Jay and Emmy had left out.

The eleven-year-old had glanced at her brother. "Jay, do you not trust me?"

"Em, it has nothing to do with that. I trust you. It's other people. I don't know what they'll do and won't do, neither do you. You're young. I don't wanna see you get hurt"

"Is that why I can't see where you work?"

"That's exactly it. A lot of criminals gets brought in a lot, I don't want them using you to hurt me"

"They'd actually do that?"

"They would, my team had put a lot of people away as did I. I don't want them getting you because of what I did"

"Alright, I understand"

"Thank you"

After about a fifteen minute drive Jay arrived at Emmy's school, unbuckling her seat belt. She leaned over and kissed her brother's cheek and he kissed her head.

"Be safe Jay"

"Always. Have a good day, go on before you're late"

The eleven-year-old had hopped out of the car and ran inside, once Jay made sure she was safely inside he had headed off for the district. Looking at the time he knew he'd be a few minutes behind. Hank would understand. As for everyone else they'll ask questions.

He trusted his team with his life, he would trust them with his family. The young detective had this fear if his young sister was introduced to his world that'll be a huge target on her back. Jay didn't want that for his sister, hell he didn't want that for Will. Will was a grown man, he'd be able to fight back and defend himself. Emmy was just a little defenseless girl, she wouldn't know how to defend herself against an attacker.

Shaking his head of those thoughts he just continued to drive. As he drove a car came speeding and crashed into his truck. The young detective went forward and hit the steering wheel, a cut on his forehead. Jay began to slowly go in and out of consciousness.

Before he knew it two masked people pulled him from the truck, they grabbed his badge and phone tossing it. One of them grabbed his gun and put it in their waistband. A needle was then stuck into the young detective's neck and he passed out. They had quickly taped his wrists and ankle together and threw him in the trunk. After slamming it shut they took off.

Over at the 21st, everyone but Jay was in for the day. Erin kept looking over at her partner's desk as it remained empty. Jay was now a half an hour late with no call. It was beginning to worry her. It had made the entire team worry. Jay was never late without a call or explanation.

Erin had gone to Hank's office, he was getting off the phone when he saw his surrogate daughter. "What's up?"

"Jay's over a half an hour late. Have you heard from him?"

Hank knew it wasn't his place to tell the team about Emmy. It wasn't his business to tell. "He told me he had an errand to run before that but he should have been here by now"

"Could he have called out? Is he sick? Is Will ok?"

"You and I will go see Will, maybe he did call out. I'll get Dawson and Atwater to check his last known"

She went out to grab her jacket, Hank grabbed his and went to the squad. "Dawson, you and Kevin go check Halstead's last known. Lindsay and I are gonna check in with Will"

Mouse began typing rapidly to get his friend's location. Once he had it he sent it to Antonio and Kevin's phone. They all had left out. Hank drove to the Halstead home. Erin knew something was up with her partner, for the past month it was as if he was keeping a secret or something.

"Hank, is something going on with Jay?" Erin asked, breaking the silence.

"Something like?" He replies.

"For the past month he's been secretive. He'd leave early. Have secret phone calls. Is something going on with him?"

"It's not for me to say Erin"

"Hank give me something"

"It's not my place to say Erin"

"If this has to do with Jay not showing up today I need to know"

"I'll tell you when it's relevant"

"And it's not relevant now?"

Hank didn't respond. Erin would find out soon enough. They pulled up to the Halstead house and Hank knocked. Will was awoken from his sleep and he was exhausted. He rubbed his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah. I'm coming" He called.

He opened the door to see Hank and Erin, immediately he got concerned. "What's wrong? Is Jay alright? Is Emmy alright?"

Erin frowned. Who's Emmy? Did Jay have a daughter? Did Will have a daughter? Does Jay's disappearance have to do with this Emmy?

"Jay's not here with you?" Hank asked. "He never made it to the district"

Will let them come inside, he wore a pair of sweatpants and a shirt. He crossed his arms. Was his brother missing?

"Jay took Emmy to school. He never came back. Where's my brother?" Will spoke.

"Who's Emmy?" Erin asked, confused.

"Our sister, she's eleven. Jay took her to school and I went to sleep I have shift tonight"

"How long have you had Emmy?"

"A month. What's going on? Where's my brother?"

"Were not sure. Jay never made it in after dropping Emmy off. I have Antonio and Kevin checking his last known location" Hank told the worried Halstead.

"I have to go get Emmy. If Jay's missing I don't want anything happening to her"

"Will relax. Until Jay is found, I think it's best for you and Emmy to be in protective custody. We'll bring you in, I'll send for Emmy to get picked up"

Will had gone to change and to get some of his and his sister's stuff packed. Erin looked in disbelief, the Halstead brothers had a sister. A sister. And for a month none of them knew. Except Hank. She had looked to the older Sergeant.

"You knew didn't you? For a month you knew about Emmy and didn't tell us" Erin said.

"It wasn't my place, it was Jay's and that was if he wanted to tell you. He told me for other reasons. He's trying to protect and shield her from everything. He didn't want her hurt by what we do. It had nothing to do with him not trusting us. It's what we walk into he doesn't trust" Hank responded.

In a way Erin couldn't blame her partner, if she was in his shoes she would have probably done the same thing. Dealing with what they deal with, the criminals, Emmy's have a huge target on her.

Will had come down dressed with a couple bags for him and his sister. He didn't know if they'd go into a safe house or just stay at the district. The three then left.

Meanwhile

Antonio and Kevin were at Jay's last known location, when they got there the two seen his truck was just about totaled. They're hearts raced. What had happened to their friend.

"Antonio, check this out" Kevin called.

The senior detective had gone to the young officer, Kevin had picked up Jay's badge and phone.

"Whoever took Jay wanted to make sure he wasn't found" Antonio said.

"We should call the others"

They had called the others, Hank arrived with Erin and Kim. He had sent Adam and Alvin to pick up Emmy. They had a detail on Will at the district. They all had gone over.

"Judging from how someone crashed into Jay, this wasn't an accident. They had this planned" Erin looked over the crash.

"Question is who'd wanna take Jay?" Kevin asked.

"That can be a very long list," Antonio answered.

"Gather what you can here and head back" Hank told his team. He was also gonna tell them about Emmy. He wasn't gonna do it out in the open.

While

Adam and Alvin had gone to an elementary school to pick Emmy up. When the two heard about Emmy they were stunned but understood why Jay hadn't said anything. They had walked in and to the office.

The secretary had seen them. "Can I help you"

"Yes, Chicago PD. We're here to pick up Emilia Halstead"

"What's it regarding?"

"A family emergency"

They had Emmy paged to the office, the eleven year old came out. She rushed seeing Adam and Alvin. The two men were stunned. She was a mixture between Will and Jay.

"Who are you? Where's my brothers?" Emmy asked

"Emmy, I'm Adam, this is Alvin. We work with Jay. We were sent to get you" Adam told her softly.

"Let me see your badges"

Jay had taught her if anyone trying to pose as a cop, always see their badge. He had taught her how to spot the difference between a real one and a fake. The two men were impressed, they knew their friend was teaching her well.

They brought out their badges showing her. Emmy examined the badges carefully and believed them. "Where's my brothers?"

"We'll take you to Will"

"Where's Jay? Something happened didn't it? Where is he?"

"Let's go kiddo," Alvin said this time.

The two left taking her to the district. Everyone had gathered at the district, Will was in the lounge pacing, he called Sharon and explained what was going on. She gave him off till everything was settled.

Emmy walked up the steps searching for her brother, when the others had seen her the stopped in their place even Hank. They couldn't believe how much she resembled both her brothers if they didn't know any better they'd think that she'd belong to one of them.

The eleven-year-old would lie if she said she wasn't scared, she was terrified. She had only had her brothers in her life for a month and now Jay was missing.

"Emmy, I'm Sergeant Voight. I'm your brother's boss" Hank says as he goes to the girl. "I promise you, we'll do everything we can to bring him home"

"Where's my brother?" She asked tearfully.

"Were working on finding him"

"I wanna see Will"

"Come on honey"

Hank guided her to the lounge. He opened the door, Will looked and saw his sister and hugged her close. Emmy wrapped herself around him holding in her tears.

"Was that.." Mouse trailed off.

"Emmy Halstead" Adam answered.

"She looks like both of them," Erin says from her desk.

"We gotta find Jay and fast," Antonio spoke from his desk. He glanced in the lounge to see two of the Halstead siblings holding each other.

They had to find Jay and bring him home to his family before it's too late.

Meanwhile

Jay was coming too, his body felt as if it was hit by a truck. He tried to move but couldn't because he was tied up to a chair. His wrists were handcuffed. Blood ran down the side of his head.

"Hey! Hey! Let me outta this! You're pretty stupid for kidnapping a cop!" Jay yelled.

The door opened and one of the guys came down. He punched Jay then tazed him, the young detective screamed in pain.

"Shut up. Be lucky we didn't grab Will or little Emmy"

The young detective glared viciously at the guy. "So help me if you touch my brother or sister, I'll make you deeply regret it"

Once again Jay was tazed and he screamed as loud as he could. "Scream all you want. No one can hear you"

"My….team...will find me...and when they do...your in trouble"

"I don't think so"

He bashed the young detective across the face, knocking him out and leaving.

The intelligence team had gotten to work trying to find their friend and teammate. They had to bring Jay home to his family. It was a race against time to find the young detective and bring him home.
