These parts of Genesis weren't a place visited by the police often. It was a quiet neighborhood where a lot of older, rich people lived. Sonny decided disguises were in order, in case they were followed.
Once he was done, Corso gave him an approving nod.
"You got a cover story?" He asked. Sonny gave him a quick smile.
"Same as yours." He said. Corso nodded.
"It's incredible she's alive. And living on Genesis She must be in her nineties." He said. Sonny nodded.
"She was one of our Leaders, so she knows how to survive." He said. Corso agreed.
"Otis told me she held something back. It could put Raven in danger if she knew. But I can use it to show who I am." Sonny said and opened a small box. Corso nodded as he saw it.
"Let's go, it's not polite to keep your former boss waiting."
Kuun made his way into Planet Akillian. Mom Ice was busy with a few customers. He just had to wait until she came to take his order. Kuun grabbed the menu and studied it. Akillian sauerkraut. Been some time since he tried that. He could also go for some coffee. He glanced over at Mom Ice talking to another woman, who noticed him. She told Mom Ice something and nodded in his direction. Time to do what he came here for.
"May I help you Sir?" She asked with her soft voice as she approached him.
"Hello Mom Ice, long time no see" Kuun managed, looking up from the menu in his hands. Mom Ice took a step back, as she gasped. He could see her eyes fill with tears.
"Kuun? Is it really you?" She managed, barely audible. Kuun nodded.
"It is." He stammered. Mom Ice stretched her arms out, and pulled him into a warm embrace. It had been so long ago since he felt like this.
He had a family again.
Sonny and Corso reached the place listed on the note from Raven. Corso looked around. It was a rich neighborhood, not a place you would normally find a Pirate. As long as she was safe, he supposed. Hopefully she had information they could use. They stopped in front of a house and Sonny checked the number.
"This is it." He said, pointing at a door to the far left. Corso checked the surroundings out of habit, before ringing the doorbell. They could hear a sensor scan door opened into a partially dark hallway. Corso stepped in before Sonny. Sonny followed right behind him, and as soon as he was inside, the door closed.
"I've been expecting you." Flora said as she approached them. Corso couldn't help but feel relieved. She was still alive. She looked older, her hair starting to gray, but she still looked like a Pirate.
"Flora. I'm so sorry. I should have continued to look for you." Corso whispered, his voice raw with emotions.
"It's been a long time, Corso." She said. Corso nodded. This was one of the strongest women he had ever known, the one that took him in, and saved his life once.
"I owe you my life. I hope it will be enough." He said. Sonny remained silent behind him. To see Corso this way was very rare. Flora placed her hand on Corsos shoulder.
"You did more than enough by protecting Sonny." Flora said mildly, but still with a firm voice.
"So no need for introductions; this is Sonny." Corso said, and stepped back, for Flora to seize Sonny.
"It's an honor to meet a predecessor of mine." Sonny said respectfully. Flora smiled, then she took his hand.
"You came here for a reason. Raven never would have let you know my location otherwise." She stated. Sonny agreed.
"We're not in a great place right now, I've managed to have the military of all planets come together. A war that is looming. I was advised to come here, after reading your journal. You might know how to defeat our enemies." Sonny nodded.
"The Pirates are old, as old as the Flux Society itself. What happened is a tragic turn of events, but one that was predicted. By now, you know how Brim Balarius really has no power to keep the peace. I gather you know about The Shadow behind the Throne?" she asked, looking at him. Sonny nodded.
"I was told I have a new role too, by Otis, I assume you know him?" He asked. Flora nodded.
"Looks like we have little time. Corso, guard the entrance. Sonny, come with me, what I'm going to show you is classified." She said. Sonny nodded. Corso nodded too.
"Do what you need to do." He said. Sonny nodded, and followed Flora into the back of the apartment.
Kuun held onto his cup of coffee while Mom Ice closed the place. He tried to plan this conversation so many times, but never quite managed to find all the words. Mom Ice smiled as she sat down opposite of him with a mug of coffee herself.
"I can't believe you're actually here. Everyone said you were dead. I guess I should've known it's not that easy to kill a Takashi." She said. Kuun smiled for a moment.
"I always planned on coming back. It just… took longer." He said with a heavy sigh. Mom Ice nodded as she took a sip of her coffee. "And so much happened. I'm working for Sonny, our Galaxy's very Guardian." Mom Ice smiled.
"Isn't that supposed to be a secret?" She asked. Kuun looked down, feeling shy all of a sudden.
"Guess I should… stop talking." He said. Mom Ice grew serious.
"We can't speak openly here. There's been a lot of new faces lately. We might be at risk. I've been on edge ever since I was told. Let's go to my house, you can spend the night there." She offered. Kuun smiled.
"Still single?" He asked. Mom Ice nodded.
"Let me finish here, and we can leave." She said. Kuun nodded.
"Sounds like a plan."
The Shapeshifter kept an eye on Mom Ice as she left with her guest. This one spelled trouble. So Sonny was the Guardian. That could become dangerous. They already took out a Warlord. The more armies joining his cause, the more difficult this would become. Even with their armies ready to go, their Warlord was in need of a new host body. And he had his eyes set on Sonny. Something Sonny was very aware of and was taking precautions. Sonny couldn't be allowed to escape. If he did, they could actually lock them out and send them away for good. Sonny Blackbones had to be dealt with. They had to send out their best agent to catch him. The sooner, the better.
Corso kept an eye out for the traffic on the street outside. Flora wouldn't ask this of him, if she didn't think they were still in danger. So Corso kept watching, to make sure everyone would be safe.
Sonny looked at the information Flora presented him with. The information that would allow them to lock the Andro Zygnans out. There was only one problem; they had to make it from scratch. Should he work this with Clamp and take the risk that the other Andro Zygnans could locate them? This could give them the upper hand. Flora looked at him, sensing the call he was about to make.
"Don't go at this on your own. No one man should carry the burden of an entire Galaxy." She said. Sonny bowed his head respectfully. "Just be careful who you trust." She said, looking intently at him. Sonny nodded.
"No one ever said this would be easy, but will you and your people do it?" Flora asked. Sonny nodded.
"We will."
It's getting serious.
Let's hope the pieces fall into place so the Andro Zygnans can be sent back to their own Galaxy, before they can initiate the war.
And let's hope Kuun's cover isn't blown, they're going to need him.
Thank you Paranoidgirl, for all helpful suggestions and for the excellent Beta job.
