A/N: Hey! Thank you for all the reviews! They made my day! I have a feeling that all of you are going to love this chapter in terms of fluffiness.
Also, I wanted to clear something. This is going to be severely dramatized and not at all realistic. I mean, a bit realistic, but I am not going for this being an actual possibility. It's an AU which is why Arizona is a bit immature and Callie is... very dominating? To say the least? This story is me having fun without getting caught up in the preexisting Calzona problems. I am creating my own ones :)
A question you might have would be will they ever get together? Yes, yes they will this is a Calzona story. Would it be highly dramatized holding a boombox in the rain kind of story? Yes, but maybe not the exact scene.
Okay so the nugget is... Every chapter starts of the same way, take a look all of them start off as 'Arizona Robbins...'. Now that I mention it, it kind of sounds dumb.
Chapter 11
Arizona Robbins couldn't believe the situation she was in. On the one hand, she had her sweet loving girlfriend waiting for her upstairs. Everything about Joanne was nice, she was charming, sweet, she was fun to be around and all in all, the blonde liked spending time with her. On paper, there was nothing wrong with Joanne, nothing that she could point out or even have it be a deal breaker.
Then on the other hand there was Calliope. She was like a drug to her. The way she popped up in her life from time to time like an addiction wanting attention, needing attention and then would disappear. The Marine was enigmatic, a puzzle that she was more than happy to solve. But did she want to solve it? That was the most important question. Watching the Latina leave as she made her way downstairs… Why was she always watching her leave? When it was something that she was so scared of happening. Even though she knew that room led to the basement, but somehow, it still felt like she was leaving and it felt horrible.
Callie's words kept ringing in her ear. 'I'm not a homewrecker, I don't cheat and I don't create cheaters either.' So from what she knew, she saw two options right now. She could either go back upstairs and forget about Calliope. Forget that she ever existed. Being with her felt like her entire body was reignited with passion that she didn't know. Or she could break up with Joanne and go downstairs and tell Callie that she was ready. That she was ready to finally be with her, that she was done with her fears and she was in, that whatever they decided, she was in.
Arizona took a deep breath, why was this so hard? Why did she have to make this decision? For once in life, after Tim, she was in a great place, she was doing something she loved, she was finally pursuing art again, sure she wasn't happy with any of her recent pieces but she was doing something. She had the kids to teach, a loving girlfriend, she made enough that she could finally move out of her parents house and move out for good, but then Callie came in and poured water over everything in her life.
Hurricane Arizona had met its match, Tsunami Calliope. She almost laughed out loud at that one.
Tsunami Calliope?
Maybe she should become a poet instead. The blonde shook her head. She had to make one decision. Upstairs or downstairs? Did she want to play it safe and go to the arms of the woman with whom things would never go beyond 'okay' or go downstairs and take a chance on something unknown? Arizona sighed before she took the stairs that led upstairs.
Callie sat on the dusty old couch as she watched… something. She wasn't even sure of what she was watching, she just put something on to kill the silence. The brunette couldn't believe the whirlwind her life was in right now! Like for fucks sakes, it was like every time she came back on land, back to her civilian friends, she was rewarded with a new challenge. She liked Arizona, she really did, that wasn't something she was afraid to admit.
But she just didn't understand the blonde. Why was she always looking for an out, and if she was? Then why did she always reel her back in? Why did she have to kiss her like her life depended on that kiss, like she needed her lips to breathe and then the blonde having a girlfriend just threw her off.
This is why Callie didn't date and most of all why she didn't date civilians, she couldn't trust her enough. What if she was gone for a moment too longer and caught her making out with someone else? At least with Erica, she was married to her work, all she saw was hearts and she loved it. She loved when a women had drive, had passion toward what they did. And from what she saw, Arizona either had none or lost hers.
She ran a shaky hand through her hair, what had she gotten herself into? Was she even ready to move on? Had she let go of Erica completely to even consider anything with Arizona? Who was she kidding? Of course she and the blonde have gone beyond calling it a fling anymore. You don't write letters to your fling, you don't have sex on the beach, well almost sex on the beach with your fling and least of all, you don't get involved with their family.
Suddenly, Callie's phone started ringing.
"Hermanita, did you really have to leave the way you did?"
"Aria, you heard what Mami was saying," she replied.
"Can you at least tell me you didn't go back to the sea yet?"
"No I didn't, a colleague of mine invited me over to his house so I decided to visit him."
"Is that allowed?"
"I used to train him before, but not anymore."
Aria sighed. "I'm switching to facetime!"
Before Callie could argue, she saw her phone buzzing with the said request.
"As you can see I am safe and sound here!" She said as she emphasized her words.
"Are you wearing a death metal band t-shirt?"
Callie peaked down to what outfit the blonde had picked for her. It was black shirt with some guy holding a drumstick with long dark hair and a grungy look in his eyes. She wore it along with some decent looking black sweatpants.
"I guess I am."
"I have never seen that before."
"So? I borrowed some." She threw her hands up in frustration.
"It looks like you didn't tell me about this said a female colleague of yours."
"This belongs to his sister. I had to leave in such a rush that I couldn't grab pajamas let alone a toothbrush!" Callie complained.
"Fair enough."
From the phone Callie heard a distinct voice that was music to her ears. "Is that Tia?" It was the voice of her niece.
"Do something good today and give the phone to your daughter!" Callie teased.
"Tia! I miss you so much! When are you coming back? You didn't even say goodbye to me!" The kid complained.
"I know I'm sorry kiddo, something came up and I had to go, but I promise to make up to you next time okay?"
The girl nodded. "Is it because of Abuela?"
"No baby, it's not." She didn't want her niece to know about the things her mother said to her. No one should know about it.
"I know when you're lying Tia, you do that thing with your eyes, is that right Mami?"
She saw her sister trying to come up with an excuse, but she beat her to it.
"If you are good for Mami and Papi, then baby girl, the next time I come back we'll go to Disneyland for the whole day, how does that sound?" she saw her sister's shocked face.
"Hermanita, we need to discuss-"
"Mami please, please, please, please!" she begged.
"I need to talk to you Papi first, but yes you can go with your Tia when she comes back," Aria said knowing fully well that she couldn't say no to her daughter on Christmas, besides it would be a long time before Callie came back.
"Thank you Mami! Tia I cannot wait! We are going to have so much fun!"
"Isn't it past your bedtime mi amor? You know what they say, Santa won't come if you're not sleeping."
It was as if a light bulb went off in her head as she dashed off to go to bed.
"The kid doesn't even say bye to me!" she scoffed.
Suddenly something caught the Captain's eye. It was a stack of bills that were all still sealed in their envelopes. She picked them up to examine them. She knew that the Robbins' were doing well enough, that they weren't in debt but they didn't seem like careless people who didn't pay their bills. Callie took a closer look and saw that they were all addressed to Arizona. That made more sense. The blonde had mentioned something about moving out, maybe she hadn't changed her address to some of her subscriptions.
And that's when it caught her eye. She found one of her letters in the pile, unopened and untouched. Of course Arizona was careless enough to just leave her mail. She shook her head and dropped the letters on the coffee table.
"Hermanita, are you okay?" Aria asked.
Was she okay? Was she really fine with everything going on in her life? "No, but I think I will be."
"Okay great so I can be a hard ass and ask you, what the hell Calliope! You promised my child a trip to Disneyland! Are you fucking kidding me! You never do that to any child and that too on Christmas eve! She's going to keep on bugging us until you show up and actually take her."
"Would that be a bad thing?"
"With your busy schedule? She needs stability in her life, she needs to know that if you promise something, you will actually come back and keep your promise."
"I will, I swear. It was just this past year that was so rough dealing with Erica and all. But I promise I'm better now, I took a vacation like three times this year! Me!" She exclaimed.
"Oh yeah? Then how come I only saw you once?"
"It's tough coming to that house, let alone Miami you know that Aria."
"I know Harmanita, but that doesn't mean that I'm not worried about you."
"Yeah. Are you and Juan still getting a divorce?" She asked.
"We are separating and hush! Thalia knows nothing about it and Christmas is not the time to do it!"
"Yeah yeah, you know she's already upstairs waiting for Santa!"
"Still!"
Just then Callie heard footsteps coming down the stairs. She checked the time on her watch. It was one am. The only one she knew who would be awake at this hour.
"I gotta go, I'll talk to you later?"
"No, you are calling me tomorrow. You know Thalia wants to talk to you tomorrow on Christmas day and so do I. You are calling tomorrow and I don't want to hear otherwise."
"Oh yeah?" She challenged.
"You don't even know where I am!"
"And don't think it would take me long to figure it out."
"Yeah whatever." She rolled her eyes.
"I love you Harmanita!"
"I love you too! Merry Christmas," she said before she cut the call to see the blonde standing by the doorway.
"You can come in, you know? It's your house."
"Was that your girlfriend you were talking to?" She asked.
"And I have to answer your question because?"
"I got you some water in case you still couldn't find it." The blonde mocked.
"I have my glass here, thank you very much." Arizona thought that she would get the reference, that this was their thing. That whenever they wanted to talk to each other they would get a glass of water under the pretense of wanting to meet each other.
"I am trying okay, Calliope. I really am. I am trying to be friends with you because you really mean a lot to my brother so can at least be civil? That's what you wanted right?"
"What we did up there was not right Arizona and you know it! By the way, try opening your mail sometime!" she yelled as she picked up the one in the United States Marine Corp envelope and showed it to her.
"Shit Calliope, I thought I got it all."
Arizona walked in closer towards her. There they were, a bunch of bills with some promotional mail and the three letters that had gone unnoticed.
She was a jerk wasn't she?
"Clearly not! So why don't you just put this in the trash and head back the way you came?" She said with her voice dripping with anger.
"What do you expect me to do? It's Christmas eve, I cannot break up with my girlfriend on Christmas eve and besides who are you to judge me when you-"
"When I was saying goodbye to my sister and my niece? I'll keep that in mind."
The blonde threw up her hands in frustration. It was not possible that this fight ended in a way where they didn't part ways again.
"I'm not at fault here. I finally had everything in my life all figured out. I have a job, I'm finally painting and I teach kids and I finally moved out."
Callie's eyes suddenly caught a glimpse of a painting on the far end of the room. It looked like someone was trying to hide it, but she found it and removed it and put it back on the easel.
"You painted this?"
"Yeah," she replied nervously.
Callie raised her fingers and traced the lines on the canvas.
"The brush work is exquisite, it shows how delicate you have to be, to get that stroke just right."
"You know about art?"
"Papi likes collecting art and I have been around with him a bunch of times to know what is great," she explained.
"And what does this piece tell you?" The blonde wanted to see what the Captain knew.
"It's haunting, like I can feel the pain in this piece but somehow, I feel like something is missing. Like there's a filter of some sort."
"Filter?" She asked. What did she mean by that?
"Like you are scared to let out your true feelings, like you are not honest with yourself or your work and it shows."
The blonde was caught in a trace. But somehow this trans was deeper. It was like she was seeing Calliope in a new light, like she was the most mesmerizing thing in the world, standing there and expressing the exact feeling she had when she painted that piece. She was scared to paint again, that maybe she wasn't the same artist that she lost her sense of colors, that the artist in her was no longer alive, so every stroke was cautious. She stuck to what she knew instead of letting her mind paint whatever she wanted and clearly the Latina had caught onto that.
"Let me paint you?" She asked.
"What, no!"
"It could be a way that I could apologize to you for you know all of this mess? And besides you can't say no on Christmas!"
"Who came up with that rule?" Callie asked.
"St. Nicolas himself!"
"And let me guess, you are going to go all Jack on me?"
The Captain was not sure where all of this was coming from.
"Jack?"
"You know from Titanic?"
Arizona raised one of her eyebrows. "Ah! So you want the whole 'paint me like one of your French girl' packages, well then strip!" She teased.
"You can't handle me with clothes on, let alone without," the Latina retaliated.
"Come on, it would be fun! Plus you already know how to pose and all with your infinite wisdom about art. So go ahead and give me a challenge to work with."
"You want a challenge?" This time the Latina raised one of her eyebrows, if Arizona wanted a challenge then that's what she would get.
Callie stripped herself out of her shirt and stood in front of the easel. She threw one of her hands across her chest that seemed to tastefully conceal her nipples while her other hand was clutching her hair.
"What about this?" she asked about her post.
Arizona took a few steps forward towards the Latina. She tweaked the position a bit as she angled her head away from her to bring out the firmness of her jawline along with the soft contour of her cheekbones. She fixed a few fly away hairs twirling them to stay upright before her eyes landed on the beady cross draped on her neck.
"Do you want me to take it off?" She timidly asked.
"No, I like it," she said as she neatly placed the rosary on her chest.
"Okay, let's get started."
Arizona took her place on her easel and picked up her pencil. This was going to be a long night.
A/N: Yes, I love the playful naked teasing they have going on!
Thank you so much for all the reviews. I would love to hear your suggestions, like this one of Arizona painting Callie naked.
The next update might take some time since I am back at uni.
Also, I think someone mentioned that I went back and forth between college and university. I think they are the same? Are they not? At least from where I am those two words can be used interchangeably, but Arizona is currently in her undergrad program. Hope that clears it?
