A/N: Okay, so I just got some time to finish this so oops, the next update is probably weeks ahead, but I thought I could pop in and say hey, so… hey?
The review about Kelly Clarkson got me good, yeah that song perfectly fits their situation, but I don't see how to put them in a karaoke bar anytime soon. So, I will lock that idea in my mind palace and revisit it later.
Also, another suggestion I liked. What do you guys feel about Mark and Addie? Do you want to see them make a cameo. I love that idea! But what do all of you think? Maybe we get to see a bit of Callie's social life? Or do you think Mark and Addie are Arizona's friends? That sounds kinda weird, but I would love to hear your opinion about it!
Okay, so here you are, a new chapter yay!
Chapter 12
Arizona Robbins had not expected to whip out her charcoal pencils or stand on her easel and draw from Christmas eve to Christmas day. IN fact she was still so mad at herself about the last painting that she had temporarily sworn off of using that easel ever again. But when your news comes knocking at your door… or well you barge in on your muse and she just strips in front of you, how can you say no?
She just thought that she was going downstairs to the basement to just have a nice little chat with Calliope because she wasn't sure when she would see her next. She wanted to squeeze in as much time with her as possible. They were kind of friends right? Yes there were still so many things that she didn't know about her, but she still considered her as a friend, or well she was considerate of her well being all in all she just wanted her to be safe.
When she had gone upstairs she thought that she would have a talk with her girlfriend to get a feel of where they were. Sure, she wasn't going to break up with her but she just wanted to know where things were going. It was wrong of her to lead either Joanne or Calliope on. But when she went upstairs her girlfriend was already asleep. Not wanting to wake her up just to have one dreaded conversation, she decided to freshen up instead. Arizona went to the bathroom and poured some water on her face. She needed it. Sure Callie did not have her hand down her pants but it sure felt like it.
What had gotten into her?
She was not a cheater she knew that. To be a cheater she had to commit to someone, which she hadn't done in a very long time. But there was just something so raw and pure about Callie that it drove her to do things that she wouldn't have otherwise.
Leaving her sleeping girlfriend alone, Arizona decided to make her way to the basement. Knowing the Latina, she knew that she wasn't asleep yet and thought that they could talk or watch some movie in silence until Danny was up. Then she could use him as a buffer.
What she had not expected was Callie to strip down and have her draw her.
"Are you done? My arms are starting to hurt," Callie complained as she kept up her pose for a bit over an hour.
"Good things in life come to those who wait."
"Yeah well where was this person when I was writing letters to you? When all you could say was that you missed me and you wanted me back as soon as possible!"
Arizona laughed. "I said no such thing."
Callie just rolled her eyes. "Come on Arizona. It really hurts, I can no longer feel my arm."
"Quit being a big baby, I'm almost done, I'm working on your eyes and adding a few finishing touches. You can drop your arm covering your chest but the other one stays up."
"Wouldn't you like that?" She teased as she raised her eyebrow at her.
Arizona just smiled at the sentence as she drew a few strokes to sketch out the hair buried in Callie's fingers.
"Okay there done!" The blonde used her thumb to add a little bit of extra shading.
The Captain finally put down her hands as she rolled her shoulders for a bit, getting rid of the strain before coming to stand behind Arizona.
"Wow, I love it."
"You do?"
"I mean look at it, you have managed to capture my eyes and somehow my skin too. It looks so life like." she said as she traced a fingertip along the curves on the canvas completely mesmerized by the artist's talent. Yes, her brother had told her that Arizona was gifted but then seeing it first hand was a completely different story.
"Sign it."
"Oh you want me to?" She asked shyly.
"Do you not sign your work, Arizona?"
"I do, I just haven't been pleased with anything to sign it."
Callie couldn't believe her ears. This woman in front of her was the poster child of being confident in the face of adversity, in fact it was one of the things she admired about her, but seeing her in doubt, she just wanted to hold her in her arms and kiss all her troubles away. Too bad she couldn't do any of it.
"Can you please sign this one?" she requested.
"Yes," Arizona took the pencil back in her hand and she scribbled down her name along with the date on the bottom end of her work before turning to face the Latina. "Ummm Callie, you mind putting the shirt back on?" Seh said as her eye inadvertently shifted towards those mocha nipples stiffening in attention.
"Oh yeah, it's a little drafty in here," she said as she explained to her why her nipples were pointy.
"No, they look like they have always looked like that to me." This just gave her permission to look at them, but she couldn't. She couldn't do that to her girlfriend, she couldn't stare at another woman. But then again, this woman did give her an orgasm earlier. Something that Joanne was yet to do.
"And how is that?" Callie asked.
"Exquisite."
Not knowing hoe to react to that smile and those dimples on display, Callie resorted to putting on the shirt. "Umm, thanks."
The brunette walked over towards the couch before sitting on it, or rather wanting to put some distance between them. She would have to make a note to either hide that sketch or take it with her.
The blonde however had other ideas as she walked closer and took a seat beside her. "Who were you talking to? Family?"
"Yeah that was my elder sister checking up on me."
"Yeah? I didn't guess that you were the baby of the family too!"
"Why? What makes you say that?" She asked.
"Well, as the baby of three siblings, my brothers have always pulled on my pigtails and annoyed the crap out of me wherever we went. I almost felt out of place."
"That has mostly to do with having brothers than being the youngest," she smiled as she patted her shoulder.
"True," Arizona liked this closeness she had with the Marine, it was just easy to talk to her. "Your sister is okay with you spending Christmas with us?"
"Ummm, kind of, she gets it. My niece wasn't happy though"
That put a smile on the blonde's face as she pictured a little girl calling Callie auntie. "You have a niece?"
"Yeah ,Thalia she's about seven."
"That's a cute age. They are not really toddlers anymore or moody teenagers."
Callie raised her eyebrow. With the temper tantrums that Thalia had thrown before, she could beg to differ.
"Oh tell that to her, the only reason I could give her to forgive me was to promise her Disneyland."
What the Marine didn't expect was Arizona to squeal in joy at the sound of Disneyland.
"Oh my god Disneyland! I have always wanted to go, but Tim and Danny never did and they wanted to go to water parks or adventure parks. But it had always been my dream to look at the castle up close in person and to buy those ridiculous Mickey ears or Minnie ears, I'm not picky! And space mountain of course. And then they say that you can't really leave Disneyland without eating the waffles there, apparently you can never get them to taste anything like the ones you get at Disney!"
Callie stared at her in awe.
"How old are you again?"
"Shut up!" She said as she pushed her shoulder.
"I'll tell you what, next time I get back, you can joining Thalia and I on our trip to Disneyland, how does that sound?"
Arizona jumped up form the couch and hugged her tightly.
"Oh my god really Calliope! You are the best!"
The Latina had once again not expected this reaction, so she returned the hug before pulling away from her.
"That is if your girlfriend is umm okay with it, or you can bring her too, I'll keep the preteenager in check and you guys can check out the rides together?"
"Joanne and Disneyland, please," she said as she rolled her eyes.
"What?"
"She doesn't like theme parks and least of all animated Disney movies, if I ask her to come she would definitely be a Debbie downer."
"I don't like Disney movies either!"
This time it was Arizona who was shocked. "You take that back!"
"What? I just usually fall asleep during the first few minutes of the minions."
"That's Pixar!"
"There's a difference?"
"We are rectifying this situation asap! What do you prefer, lions or princesses?"
Arizona got up from the couch and went towards the cabinets that held all the CDs.
"What kind of choice is that?"
"You should be grateful that I'm even giving you a choice, tell me what do you prefer! Or I'll put something I know you'll hate and won't let you sleep."
Lions or Princesses, that was the most absurd choice she had ever heard, but it couldn't hurt right? It certainly gave the blonde some joy, so she could go along with it.
"I guess lions seem bearable," Callie said as she shrugged her shoulders.
"Okay now was that too hard to do? We are watching the Lion King!"
Curiosity did kill the cat. "And had I said princess?"
"Frozen."
The Marine sighed and thanked her past self. "Good choice Callie, good choice!" she said out loud.
"Frozen is not as bad as you think it is! Everything one thinks it's going to be a sappy prince falling in love with a princess and they make babies and live happily ever after, but it's not! It's different!" The blonde explained.
"Oh yeah? Is it two princesses falling in love with each other and living gay forever?" Callie laughed at her own joke. That was just not possible, was it?
"You are so creative, you should be working for Disney instead."
"Wouldn't you like that Arizona!" She said as she leaned back on the couch, getting comfortable for the long night ahead.
"Why do you keep calling me by my name?"
Callie shrugged her shoulders. "Because you requested it like twenty times."
"Yeah but you ignored me for the first nineteen, what difference did it make during the twentieth time?"
The fact that it's no longer appropriate? Is what she thought, but didn't want to say it and ruin Arizona's mood.
"I don't know. It just did."
The blonde quickly popped the CD in the player before taking her place on the couch beside Callie. She took the blanket that was haphazardly thrown on the back of the couch, before draping in over the two of them and hit play.
"Okay quiet now the movie is starting!"
It wasn't like Callie had never seen the Lion King, she did, but she was maybe ten at the time when all she wanted to do was watch cartoons all day. But it was nice, she remembered that there was Simba, the cute little baby lion. And of course the thing with Mufasa that she had blocked out of her memory.
She risked a glance over at Arizona as baby Simba tried to 'wake' his dad up after the stampede. The blonde had her knees tucked underneath herself with her face scrunched up as she refused to let the tears leave her eyes. Her nose was starting to get red and she pulled the blanket closer towards her. The Artist saw that Callie was watching her and tried to smile, but the damn scene gets to her every time. Instead, she turned her face away not wanting to show the brunette how much the movie still continued to affect her.
Callie shook her head and simply snuggled in closer to her to let her know that she was allowed to feel and that there was no need for her to hide her tears. Soon enough, the blonde leaned into her embrace as she sniffled trying to get a control over her breathing.
Before the Latina knew it, the movie came to an end and the credits started rolling. This time Arizona was the one who fell asleep with her body leaning against Callie as she managed to watch the entire movie by herself.
Looking at the clock, she knew she had to leave. She promised Erica's mother that she would stop by. Callie slowly extracted herself from the sleeping blonde which only resulted in her pulling her closer towards her. She pulled the cushion from behind and slowly turned them supine on the couch. For a good minute Callie was on top of her, willing her body to get off, to not get used to this feeling she seemed to have around the blonde, before extracting herself successfully. She quickly shed her clothes that Arizona had given to her before wearing the outfit she had on. She could stop by the store and pick up a pair of jeans and a blouse. She was about to leave when Arizona's form pulled her in. Watching her burying her face in the pillow as her nose scrunched was the cutest thing ever. She couldn't help but lean over and kiss her forehead.
Callie couldn't decide if she should leave a note, but she decided against it. The blonde was finally painting, she had a job and was in a loving relationship. She didn't want to complicate things for her. So she dumped her pajamas in the washer before she left her once again.
A/N: I am evil, I know. But I just had to! From the next chapter, I promise you, no more leaving? I think I can try that for a change?
