A late night transport ship arrived at The Sanctuary. It carried a large group of Pirates that finally managed to get the paperwork to enter done. Security was high nowadays, especially after Sonny arrived to stay with his family.
The captain of the ship, an Obia moon resident, was seeing port authorities for clearance for his crew to get some time off.
The Pirate in charge went over his documents, checking them against a list of approved names.
"Everything is in order, though, for security reasons, your crew is confined to quadrant D, section 8." He said.
He didn't see a dark shadow move inside the left eye of the Pirate Captain.
Cobra had been sitting in silence for most of the night, having dispatched the order to track Blackbones down. This wasn't easy. Finding the mysterious Sanctuary was even harder. But now, one of their lower rank members managed to get in.
Cobra was pleased.
They were accompanied by two of their most vicious servants, to help with the capture.
Corso brought all the supplies he needed to tend to Sonny's wound. Callie helped prepare the sofa. Corso carefully removed the bandages for a closer look. There was no sign of infection so far, Sonny was healing fine, but Corso was not taking any chances, the wound was still there and it could go wrong quickly. Sonny closed his eyes, breathing deeply to relax, before Corso continued.
Corso looked at Sonny.
"Ok, on three" He said before he used a probe underneath the scab to check for further damage. Sonny inhaled sharply, as the probe went deeper. Corso watched a small screen as he steered the probe around inside Sonny's abdomen. The wound itself closed up nicely thanks to his Flux. Corso checked everywhere he could, trying to make sure Sonny was healthy.
After a while, he pulled the probe out.
"Healing nicely, thanks to that Flux of yours." Corso said. Sonny sat up, as Callie put on a fresh bandage.
"I don't think it's my Flux. It's yours Corso. Gaia is truly remarkable." Sonny reminded him before he sighed.
"Wish we'd given it more respect. But that's Chissia for you: if it can't be used to fight, it's worthless." He said. Sonny looked at him.
"There is pride to be found in being a healer and a protector. Never forget that and cherish your Flux." He said. Corso nodded, before changing the subject.
"What do we do about Cobra and the Warlord? They're still out there, looking for you." He reminded him.
"Remember the creatures you saw at the last meeting? They're called The Seraphs. Trans Dimensional Beings that are powerful enough they even command thei respect. They have no choice but to listen and cooperate." Sonny said. Corso nodded.
"How in the Galaxy was Flora able to obtain the information for Clamp's new training program?" He asked.
"She had help from the Seraphs. Guess they want us to win this." Sonny explained, while he poured himself a glass of water.
"The Seraphs. They're quite a mystery. Why do you think they appear now? Just to help with this threat?" Callie wondered. Sonny smiled as she sat down.
"Why don't you ask that to them yourself?" He said, as two orbs of light formed in the right hand corner of the living room, before turning into more humanoid shapes. It was hard to make out their features because of the sharp light that surrounded them. One of them turned to Callie.
"Greetings Lady Blackbones. We would love to share our story." The Seraph said in a calm and soothing voice.
"Well, I AM a reporter." She said, feeling a sense of pride in her job.
"We are aware. We are also aware of the perils to come, since we have been watching. For a long time." The Seraph explained. Sonny stood up.
"Finally decided to act?" He asked. The Seraph nodded.
"Correct Guardian Blacknones. We come with a gift to help you during your Match."
D'Jok went to pick up some supplies for himself and Mei. He also wanted to explore the Sanctuary more. It was at least ten times the size of Genesis.
Some of the buildings were decorated with murals of the Pirates' history, from the time this organization was formed, through battles with Technoid and other enemies.
The museum the Pirates had planned about their history was still in development. It gave him a sense of pride, to know he was the son of one of the bravest of them all, Sonny, whom was a cherished leader, whom held the respect, not only of his own men, but also throughout the galaxy. At this point, they could only hope that would last.
As D'Jok stopped to pick up a drink, he felt someone was watching him. He knew he had to stay calm. He slowly drank his drink. At the same time, making sure it was not obvious that he was scanning the parameters for danger. Being Sonnys son, he had learned how to be aware of his surroundings and spot danger before it became a threat to his life. The only one that could sneak around that defence he had developed, was Sonny, Corso, Artie and Bennett.
Soon, it felt like someone was trying to sneak into his head, telling him lies about his father. D'Jok realized what was going on suddenly. This could not be, unless somehow, security had been breached.
He needed to get help. Before whoever tried to invade his mind could figure out where their number one threat was located.
Back at training, Sonny noticed D'Jok was missing. He wasn't worried yet, since they did have to navigate a new place.
Most of the other Footballers were now also at the Sanctuary, paired off in groups of five to live together.
"It's not like him to be this late." Clamp said, looking at Aarch. Aarch nodded.
"Hopefully he has a good reason. Its not like him to miss out on a training session this close to a match of this importance" He said. Aarch took to the mike system for the holo trainer.
"Mei, you wouldn't happen to know why D'Jok is running late, would you? We need everyone participating in the match to be present" He asked. Mei shook her head.
"No idea, coach. He said he went for some quick errands, and he'd meet me here for practice." She said. Sonny was not convinced.
"He would not be running this late and keep us all waiting, not in times like these.I'll give him a call, see where he is at." Sonny said, as he tried to call his son.
After five tries, Sonny was starting to get worried. Something was wrong. Sonny was about to leave the holo trainer when D'Jok finally answered.
"Where are you? This is some very important practice. There had better be a good explanation for this" Sonny snapped at his son.
"I Can't come without creating a dangerous situation. I'm being followed."DJok said, and aimed his holo projector away from himself, to show two Xenons having an ice cream soda.
"A couple of Xenon refugees?" Sonny asked, somewhat confused. D'Jok sighed.
"They could be possessed by the Andro Zygnans, do we have a way to check that?" He asked. That was enough for Sonny to change his tune.
"We have, but do you have a reason to suspect them? I don't want to harass innocent people." He said. D'Jok was getting visibly frustrated.
"Just give me Luur." He said. Sonny looked over at the Xenon captain, who approached him.
"What is it?" Luur asked, standing next to Sonny.
"Are Xenons telepathic?" D'Jok asked, staring at them intently. Sonny looked at Luur as well. The reptilian's eyes narrowed.
"No. We are not. Xenons use their muscles, or their flux, no manipulation tactics." He said. Sonny was catching on.
"Put on your tracker for Corso, he'll come pick you up. Also, get out of there without drawing too much attention." He ordered, clearly worried. Mei stepped closer as Sonny ended his call.
"Is something wrong?" Mei asked. Sonny sighed.
"He won't be able to practice with us. The Andro Zygnans found him. He made the call to divert attention from us for now, but that wont last long" Sonny said, before turning to the others.
"The security of The Sanctuary has been breached by the Andro Zygnans. Everyone should go to their appointed safe houses and be careful and stay alert." Sonny said.
"Who're they after?" Kernor asked. Sonny sighed.
"My family, of course."
Yup, I tried, but 50 chapters was not enough.
I try to keep the chapters not too long, but it's hard, especially with more detailed explanations. But I will try to use that to my advantage. To really flesh out the conflict.
As always, thanks to Paranoidgirl, for her Beta work on this story.
For now, happy reading!
