Also, I realized something else. A lot of you all started reading Lucky Enough after I mentioned it in one of my notes. So I'm bringing the 'My recommended story that I have been really enjoying and you should check it out' back.
This one is called "The Call" by AMM1112, yes you might think you recognize the author, they wrote the AU about Arizona being a golfer. Check it out if you haven't already and give them some love. I really like their work so give them some positivity!
Anyway, a new chapter.
Chapter 15
Arizona Robbins had never felt so out of breath that she almost promised herself to hit the gym once she got back. The whole afternoon she spent trying to track down a certain brunette. She searched everywhere she could think of and yet she couldn't find Callie.
The thought soon morphed into dread that the Marine had once again left without saying goodbye, without leaving a note almost making it seem like a dream, making it seem like she had imagined it all and she hadn't met Calliope today.
She hated this. She hated not knowing, the uncertainty, the part where she felt like she was nobody. What the actual fuck, she was a person. Her own person, then why did it feel like the Latina held such a hold on her soul.
On the end of the hall she saw those shoulders facing away from her. With the angle she couldn't exactly see who it was, but she knew Callie's silhouette, so she took a few steps forward as the back of the Marine's head came to view. With that, Arizona started running towards her.
She wasn't sure why she was feeling this way, she just was and she didn't know what to do about it.
Callie heard someone running, which was a bit unusual, she quickly turned around and saw the blonde running towards. She quickly dismissed the Marine she was talking to before catching Arizona in her arms. She saw her face and could tell immediately that something was wrong.
"Calliope? No fuck!" she said as she started hitting her shoulders.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"You cannot do that! You cannot leave without telling me where you are going, you can't do that!"
Arizona had started punching her at this point. It wasn't like she was doing much damage but she hated to admit that it was starting to hurt a bit.
"I was just-"
"No, you cannot leave! You cannot do that! Tim left and he didn't come back, you can't leave!"
Callie leaned forward and grabbed her in her arms as she tightly hugged her. She tucked Arizona's head in the crook of her neck as she stroked her hair.
"I got you Sugar lips, I got you, just let it all out."
"It hurts, it hurts so freaking much! You cannot leave okay, you need to tell me that you won't leave! Promise me that you won't!" She yelled as the tears made the way down her face and onto Callie's shoulders.
"Baby, what's gotten you so worked up?"
Arizona tried to speak without choking, but it was of no use. "I-I looked everywhere and-and you weren't there! Why are you nev-never there? You just leave with-without saying anything!"
Callie just listened to her as she gently caressed her back, her face and her hair, hoping that she found the comfort she was looking for. This was clearly something different and the blonde was definitely projecting pent up feelings on her.
"I'll tell you what. I promise you that I'm not going to do that anymore? Okay?" she said as she grabbed Arizona's chin and tilted it upwards so that she was looking into her eyes. "That was the old me, that part of me who saw you once every couple of months gave you some mind blowing sex and just disappeared. This time we are friends and friends are honest with each other okay? So, I'm not going to leave without telling you. How does that sound?"
"It sounds good," she said as she wiped the remainder of her tears off of her face.
"I need to leave…"
"What?"
"Not right now, but sometime today. It was very difficult to get today off as is, but I managed to get some time to be here."
"Okay, but not right now right?"
"Nope," she said as she popped the P in the word.
"Good. Thank you for being here."
Arizona snuggled deeper into the Marines arm thing about the last time she was in her arms, the last time she felt this content, this safe, this… everything.
Callie had this fragrance about her which she couldn't really place. It was not exactly too floral or too earthy but an amazing combination of both. For a while Arizona thought that maybe she could just buy a perfume that smelled like her so she wouldn't miss her so damn much, but unfortunately that fragrance was uniquely Callie.
"Arizona surprise! I made it!"
The two of them pulled apart as the blonde's greeted them. Arizona opened her arms and let her girlfriend hug her before Joanne leaned up and planted a kiss on her lips. She could feel the awkwardness seep from Callie, but she couldn't help it.
"Hey Jackie, nice to see you again!" Callie said as she offered her hand.
"It's Joanne, but it's nice to see you too."
"I'm so sorry, I don't know why that keeps happening."
"Thank you so much for arranging this, it means so much to Arizona and I that you're here on her birthday," she said as she shook her hand.
"Yeah."
Joanne turned to her girlfriend before hugging her once again. "Baby, I missed you so much! Did you really think I was going to miss your birthday, you should give me more credit."
Callie couldn't stand there and look at the Artist being hugged and kissed by someone else. "I have to go, enjoy your birthday Miss Robbins!"
And with that the Marine took off towards… anywhere, that wasn't the hallway, anyplace that would make this feeling in her chest disappear that she didn't realize she was running.
"Callie?" she heard someone calling her. "Callie stop!" It was Addie, but she couldn't stop. She had to get away, she needed to get away. "Calliope Iphigenia Torres!" That got her to stop dead in her tracks, but she didn't turn around. "What's wrong?"
"Me, I'm what's wrong!"
"What are you talking about?"
Addison jogged over towards her friend before tapping on her shoulder silently asking her to turn around.
"Addie, her girlfriend is here. She has a girlfriend and I'm pining after her, I'm chasing her when she's in a committed relationship with someone else. I can't, I can't do that, I cannot be that person. I cannot be George, and I can't make her Izzie and Jennifer be Callie." she said as she ran a hand through her hair.
"I think her name is Joanne?"
"How do you even know that?"
"I had a chat with Sargent Robbins."
Callie almost scoffed at that, she didn't need her best friend telling her what she already knew.
"He doesn't like me hanging out with his sister, so I can't imagine what he said about me."
"He said that you are a good influence on his sister, you're a great influence. That she became a better person because of you, that she's back in school because of you and that she's a committed relationship-" before Addie could finish her sentence the brunette cut her off.
"Let me guess because of me?" she asked in an annoyed tone,
"I… wasn't going to say those words exactly."
"I made her commit to what's her face?" she asked angrily.
"Can't you see that you are bringing out the good in her?"
"Am I?"
"You are not ready. You are not ready to handle a relationship right now, you said so yourself! You are not over Erica, you need time and you need your heart to heal. I can tell that Arizona is a great girl, but the timing is just awfully wrong, sweetie," she said as she hugged her friend.
For someone who liked to think they are invincible, Callie needed people to tell her that sometimes it's okay to take a beat and think to let down her guard for a while and just breathe, which is why she was forever grateful to Addison.
"When did you get so wise?"
"Have a kid with Mark Sloan, it would do that to you!"
"Oh our kids could be siblings!" She said as she feigned excitement.
"That would be a difficult conversation."
"What?" She chuckled.
"Having to explaining to them that you and I used to bang, but the you and Mark started having sex and then you guys broke up and then I hooked up with him and then we broke up and I got pregnant and then both of you hooked up and you got pregnant?"
"And then Mark and Lexie have a kid?" she added.
"Yeah, there's a closely knit family and then there's this mess!"
"You got one thing right."
"What is that?" she asked.
"Family. We are a family," she said as she once again hugged her friend tightly. "Don't you dare forget that!" she said before partying. "So how was the sex?" The redhead asked.
"With Mark?"
"No, with Arizona."
Callie almost blushed at the question. "I'm a lady Addison Montgomery, I don't kiss and tell!"
"And I'm supposed to buy that you guys only kissed?" She teased.
The Latina spent the remainder of the afternoon with her friends Mark and Addison as they caught up on each other's life before it was time for Callie to leave. She quickly hugged the two of them before putting her Marine's jacket on along with her cap and headed towards the plane.
Callie paused for a moment, she had promised Arizona that she would say goodbye before she left, but then now that her girlfriend was here, did it even matter.
Being the woman of her words, she went in search of her.
"Hey, I was looking for you."
"Yeah sorry, Joanne wanted a tour and she doesn't know much about the Marines so it ran a little long." she explained before noticing that Callie had her jacket and hat on. "Why are you in uniform?" she asked.
"I'm heading back."
"Oh." She couldn't help but let her disappointment out.
"Yeah I was hoping to say bye"
"Okay."
Seeing that the blonde had nothing to say, she nodded. "Umm, so bye?" before heading towards the planes.
"Callie wait!" she yelled before catching up to her. "I managed to sneak something on board."
"Arizona!"
Before the Marine could scold her she held up the object. "It's just a flask! It has some cheap whiskey in it, that's it."
"And?" she asked as she stared her down.
"It's my birthday, can't I have a drink with a friend on my birthday? You have time for a small sip?"
"Umm, sure." she said as she took the flask in her own hand. "Here's to another year older, wiser and smarter. I know the past years have been a bit rough but you never fail to amaze me even for a single day. You, by far, are the most amazing person I have ever met, all the animated movies included!" She teased.
"Hey, you promised me a trip to Disneyland I hope you haven't forgotten that?"
Callie fiend being shocked by the thought that she forgot her promise. "I would never!"
"So, Arizona Robbins, happy birthday! Here, the birthday girl gets the first sip." she said as she offered the blonde to drink from the flask that was still in her hand. Arizona tilted her head back as the Marine poured a small amount in her mouth.
"Thank you so much Calliope! You being here means a lot to me. Even though we couldn't spend much time together, I really appreciate it."
A drop of whiskey dribbled down the corner of her mouth and made its way towards her chin but before it could drop to the floor, Callie caught the droplet on her thumb and sucked it off.
Arizona offers her to take a drink, but the Marine denies and caps the flask before handing it back to her.
"I'm on duty, I can't drink"
"But…"
"I'll see you soon?"
"Calliope I… I'll miss you."
"I'll miss you too."
And with that the Latina made her way from her. She wasn't sure when their paths would cross but she was glad that this time they wouldn't be strangers, they promised to be friends and keep in touch. If that is what she got at the moment, she would take it.
Arizona made her way towards her girlfriend. "Joanne, we need to talk."
"I know, we needed to talk months ago, but can we not do this right now?" she asked sadly.
"Yeah."
A/N: Dun dun dun, not exactly a cliffhanger when you know what talk they are going to have, but I feel like you guys finally got what you wanted.
The next update might take some time, but I promise it should be up as soon as I get some time. Please review, it helps me know if you are liking it and feel free to leave a suggestion or theories about what could happen next!
