I woke up out of a dead sleep to a piercing pain in my head. I reached out blindly to tap the Doctor on the shoulder, but I think I ended up slapping him judging by the way he jerked awake and rolled over instantly.

"Emma Oh my god," he breathed in horror and yanked me upright by my shoulders as the lights came on in the room. I groaned as my head protested the sudden sitting up and the lights and the fact that the Doctor immediately tipped my head forward and clamped a hand to the bridge of my nose. It was when his other hand clamped part of the bedsheet over my nostrils that I realized that my nose was gushing blood.

"Sorry," I mumbled as the headache started to decrease slightly.

"Sorry?! Don't apologize just tell me what the Hell happened!" He sounded hysterical so I fumbled my hand up to his wrist and wrapped my hand around it in comfort.

"I don't know just woke up with this piercing pain. And then I woke you up," I said, and I heard him mutter something in Gallifreyan under his breath.

"English please. Or at least some language the TARDIS will translate for me," I said as teasingly as I could manage around the two hands that were trying to clot my nose. Then I got a flash though our mental connection, he was running through symptoms of brain tumors and cancer that he knew off the top of his head. "That's leaping to conclusions don't you think?"

"No as a matter of fact I don't think so when you wake me up in the dead of night covered in blood because you have pain in your head," he snapped and immediately took a deep, shaky breath. "I'm sorry I'm just panicking."

"I know." I was pretty sure that cancer or a brain tumor was pretty high on the list of ways he couldn't stand to lose me. Which was a mutual feeling. "Maybe it's the time energy."

"There's never been a symptom like this," he said hesitantly like he was trying not to jump straight to the worst conclusion.

"Not together. Remember when I couldn't remember The Year that Never Was with The Master? I got a headache like that. And when we met Rose and Ten Two, he touched me and I got a nosebleed," I said, and I got a flash of the Doctor wondering if maybe the time energy was eating my body from the inside out like some kind of radiation. "I admire your ability to stay away from worst case for so long."

"Emma," he said as he pulled his hands away from my face and I risked opening my eyes.

"I know. I'm not funny. But I was serious. Go check the timeline or whatever it is you need to do. See if something funky is happening," I said, and he closed his eyes and took a deep breath.

"You feel back to normal?" He asked as he opened his eyes again. I nodded. "You promise?"

"Cross my heart," I said and made the hand motion. His hands fisted in the bloody sheet and I sighed. "I would kiss you to make you feel better, but I have drying blood on my face so you're going to have to take my word for it."

"Emma." He paused to suck in another deep breath. "I love you and I am going to check the timeline and you are going to join me in the console room as soon as you clean your face."

"Order or request?" I asked teasingly and he looked at me with a deep soulful desperation.

"Desperate request," he said as he pressed his lips to my forehead firmly before he stood up from the bed, keeping his eyes on me as he left the room. I got up and headed for the bathroom and blinked in shock when I caught sight of myself in the mirror. It was no wonder the Doctor had looked so pale and nervous, the front of my pajamas were so full of blood that it looked like someone had slit my throat open. I pulled it off and wiped all the blood from my skin before deciding to jut get dressed before going to the console room.

"There see? Emma all back to normal," I said as I came to a stop beside him and held out my arms like I was inspecting them. He gave me a rough chuckle before he scooped me up in his arms and gave me a deep kiss.

"You were right," he said as soon as he released me. I blinked at him for a few moments, mentally cursing his double bypass for the fact that he never seemed winded after he kissed me like that.

"About the funky timeline?" I asked and he pointed at the viewscreen. There was a rather large ship sitting there and I was starting to have a sense of deja vu. "Rose and Ten Two again?"

"It would be better if it were," the Doctor said darkly with his arms crossed and I shot a glance at him because that tone could not mean anything good.

"Wait do you recognize it?" He nodded sharply. "Care to share?"

"It's a Gallifreyan ship from the War," he said.

"Wait what?" I looked between him and the ship several times to see if he was going to expand before I grumbled slightly. "Really wish the universe would play by its own rules."

"Wouldn't that just make everything easier?" He asked sarcastically and I sighed before I reached for his hand.

"You're doing that thing that makes me worry about what is going on inside your head," I said, and he laughed with a hint of darkness as he turned to look at me.

"And what is that?" He asked.

"Not telling me what you're feeling." He laughed fully at that.

"I know that nothing good waits on that ship. I would rather not face it alone." He was probably going to continue, but I cut him off.

"You are not leaving me here on the TARDIS," I said, and he made a face at me which I raised an eyebrow at.

"Emma."

"Nope not an option. It's a rule I made for myself when I died in the other universe because you locked me in the TARDIS." I was trying to go for teasing, but I didn't think he was in the mood for it because his face twisted up even more, so I changed directions. "You can keep an eye on me the whole time."

"No, I can't because the instant we get there you'll talk me into splitting up to cover more ground," he said dryly, and I smiled up at him.

"I would have tried and probably failed the instant you flashed your sad eyes at me. But if you think it's a good idea," I trailed off pointedly as I reached up to mess with his fringe. His eyes narrowed as he realized that he had somehow backed himself into a corner.

"How did you do that?" He asked and I laughed as I arched up to kiss him quickly on the lips.

"I didn't do anything. Now let's land the TARDIS and go see why there's a Gallifreyan ship here when there shouldn't be," I said as I released him and shifted my hands onto the TARDIS controls. He sighed in defeat and acceptance as he fell into step beside me and helped me land on the ship. I took a half step towards the door before I realized that he had his fists resting on the console. I stepped back and ducked down to make eye contact with him.

"I can't."

"Can't what?"

"I cannot lose you Emma. I do not have the strength. You snatched yourself from the jaws of destiny and I can't shake the idea that this is the universe setting it right. In every other universe every trace of Gallifrey is gone and so are you. If this is fate snatching you back-" He cut himself off with a look of deep pain edging on agony and I slid a little closer to him.

"Firstly, you don't believe in fate or destiny. Secondly, my death wasn't fixed. Thirdly, we made it past twenty-seven remember? And fourthly, I know you would make the right choice."

"I love you and I hate your logic," he said as he pushed himself up from the console and I smiled at him as we walked to the door.

"I love you too." He opened the door and stepped out. I nudged him gently in the shoulder. "I need you to step forward just a tiny bit so that I can actually get out of the TARDIS."

"They're running on the lowest power," he said as he took a few half steps forward, just enough space for me to step out and be able to close the door. I rolled my eyes at him fondly as he looked around and I closed the door.

"Is that why it's a bit chilly?" I asked as I stepped to the side so that my view wasn't just his back.

"Basically."

"You take the direction of the flight deck and I'll take the other direction?" I offered after I waited a few moments to see if he was going to expand. He sent me a look like he'd been hoping I wouldn't remember his splitting up idea from the TARDIS. I smiled at him and held up my phone.

"Fine," he groaned dramatically. I laughed and grabbed his lapels to drag him down slightly so that I could kiss his forehead.

"Good luck," I said which he chuckled fondly at before cupping the back of my head and giving me a proper kiss.

"You're going that way and you're going to call me in ten-minute intervals," he said with a finger wiggle over my shoulder.

"Order or request?" I asked. He bent closer to me somehow and pressed a lingering kiss to my cheek.

"Desperate request." He straightened up and started walking down the hallway away from me. I laughed as I set a ten-minute timer on my phone before heading the other direction.

"Are you like the TARDIS?" I asked the ship as I placed my hand flat on the wall. I waited for a while before determining that it was not like the TARDIS since there wasn't a single spark of anything. I kept walking until I found what looked like a poorly light experiment area.

"Now this has promise," I said as I pushed the door open. Conveniently laying right in front of the door was a clipboard which I picked up and crossed my fingers that the TARDIS would be really nice to me and translate the Gallifreyan. She did and I made a mental note to give her a firm pat when I saw her again.

"The Kookaburra Project. Weird name." I jumped slightly when the timer went off in my pocket and I fished my phone out and balanced it on my shoulder after I had dialed the number.

"This is Emma Bradley checking it at the preapproved time to tell you she's fine and not dead," I said brightly, and the Doctor snorted.

"Did you find anything?" He asked.

"I found science. I'm doing my best to see if it was important science," I said, and he hummed. "You?"

"Trying to hack into the navigational controls. It looks like they're set on random."

"Good luck to you. Speak again in ten minutes." I hung up after he had said the same and reset the timer as I frowned down at the clipboard.

"What the heck does it mean by embryo?" I asked before studying the main table in the centre of the room. There was a large cylindrical thing that I couldn't quite make out, so I decided to brave the darkness and investigate. I looked at the cylinder to see if I could crack it open somehow before I gave up because it was still too dark so I rested my hand on it to see if I could feel something, but it slid open as soon as I did.

"That's what they mean by embryo," I said stupidly as I looked down at the baby in the cylinder. I picked them up before I could really process what I was doing and once we had skin to skin contact they opened their eyes and blinked at me.

"Hello little thing. What are you doing on a big empty ship like this?" I asked.

"WHO ARE YOU?" I jumped in the air as a Dalek voice rang out from the corner that was shrouded in darkness which jostled the baby who started crying just as a brilliant flash of golden light flared up from the observation room that was attached that I hadn't noticed before.

"Holy shit," I whispered as I looked between the Dalek, the baby and the clipboard as my phone started ringing insistently. "Holy fucking shit."
