"Ughh…what…where…."

A certain boy felt like he just woke up from a long slumber.

From another perspective it could be said that he had awakened for the first time.

Normally someone would be looking for their phone or a nurse to help fill in the gaps.

But the boy felt absolutely nothing.

Nothing at all.

No urge to call his friends or family.

No need to find out what got him in the hospital in the first place.

It was like he was a completely blank slate.

If compared to a machine, he had no commands encoded. He had no direction, no idea what to do or where to go.

All he did feel was pain coming from his bandaged right arm, and a slight discomfort from his head.

The door opened and a stout doctor with a moustache walked in.

"Ah! Finally awake now are we."

"Eh?"

"So how are you feeling Midoriya-kun?"

"Mi-doriya?"

"Ah? So the damage has reached that far I see."

"Uhhh…"

"I shouldn't be surprised, its a miracle you're even awake after that huge blow to your noggin."

'What was this old man talking about? Damage? I took a huge blow? And Midoriya, is that my name?'

"Oh right you're probably quite confused now aren't you young man."

"Uhh yeah Doc it be nice to have some explaining…"

The empty boy needed to know who he was, what kind of person was Midoriya, why did he even end up in the hospital in the first place?

"First of all, do these words ring a bell? School, Year, Dog, Quirk, Hero, please explain briefly what each of these are."

"Well… school is a place where students go to learn."

"Do you recall which school you currently attend?"

"Uhh… sorry no."

"Alright continue…"

"A year is 12 months or 365 days."

"Do you recall the current year?"

The empty boy shook his head.

"Alright…" The doctor scribbled in his notepad, and motioned for him to continue.

"Umm a dog is a… dog? I'm sorry I'm not sure what to say umm… Cute, fluffy with paws?"

"Could you tell me which animal is commonly portrayed as the enemy of one?"

"Uhh… a cat?"

"Alright… has…." The doctor nodded.

"A quirk is a physical manifestation of a superhuman ability someone can possess, each person can only manifest a single quirk at most. They've been also referred to as meta-abilities, mutations and paranormal in nature."

"Do you recall what sort of quirk you possess?"

Midoriya pondered for a moment before casually inspecting his body.

"No."

"Ah, that's quite surprising."

"Why's that?"

"Quirks are a physical part of the body you see, you would be hard pressed to find someone who woke up and forgot that they possessed arms and legs, besides the case of amputees of course. Although curious, it would make sense with someone quirkless such as yourself Imagine Breaker."

"Imagine what?"

"Ah! Forget that last part. The point is someone quirkless as yourself would not be able to recall that they possessed a quirk due to not having one in the first place. Although I admit you are the first case of a quirkless amnesiac I've seen in my many long years in this hospital."

"I see…"

"How about the last thing I said then?"

"The last thing… Oh right! Heroes! Uhh, Pro Heroes are people who went through hero training and obtained licences to use their quirks to fight villains."

"Could you name me an example of a hero?"

There was one name that immediately popped into the forefront of his mind.

"All Might." Midoriya immediately said.

"Oh? And do you remember who All Might is?"

"He is…" His mind began to blank.

Who exactly was All Might?

And why did Midoriya immediately think of him?

"I see… most curious… this is a most curious case of memory loss indeed."

The doctor scribbled down his observations.

"Well, since you cannot seem to recall, All Might was the Number One Hero here in Japan or as people normally call him 'The Symbol of Peace'."

"I see- Wait. Was?"

The doctor nodded somewhat sombrely. "Yes, unfortunately he had perished quite recently in early April. The current Top Hero goes by 'Endeavor'."

"I- I see…" For some reason the transparent boy had not taken the news well.

What was this feeling deep within his heart?

Why was Midoriya grieving a man he never met?

"And final question, what was the first word which I asked you to explain?"

"Umm…School?"

"Correct. It seems short term memory is in place…"

The doctor scribbled and flip around his notepad, reviewing his findings.

"Oh before I forget to mention, you are currently attending UA University's General track. Your Academic Mentor has already been informed, and will be updated on your condition. Your Mother has also been informed, which goes without saying."

"I see…" Midoriya muttered for the umpteenth time.

"Also there have been a lot of letters for you."

The boy perked up. "Letters?"

"Well wishes and such. One from your Mother, your Professor, and quite a few from some girls, one I suspect to be your girlfriend."

"Girlfriend?"

"It would be a rather concerning letter if it were not."

"Uhh ok?" He decided not to pry further.

"Also one addressed from the boy you saved."

"I saved someone?"

The doctor smacked his notepad against his head.

"It seems I have neglected to inform you the circumstances surrounding your injury, deepest apologies my boy."

"Ah! It's fine Doc, you were just worried about my immediate health. I'd say that's more important for a Doctor to care for his patient."

"You are too kind my boy. Anyway, it seems this injury of yours has been brought upon by a heavy impact on your cranium. There was significant damage detected but it seems at least for now your motor and language capabilities are still fine, however the impact has brought on some form of dissociative amnesia. To put it simply you retained semantic and procedural memories that contain knowledge and habits, but the portion you lost were the episodic memories, pertaining to 'Midoryia Izuku'."

'Midoriya Izuku?'

"In a way this is an unusual sort of 'rebirth'. Midoriya Izuku has ceased to exist, and yet still lives on. Quite the curious case indeed."

"So is there any hope of recovery? Any treatment that can help me get my memories back?"

The doctor shook his head.

"I'm sorry my boy."

"But, but there must be some sort of recovery or healing quirk right?"

"There are indeed, however it seems that every single one of our healer's quirks have failed to heal you."

"Failed…"

"What is more unusual is how quickly you recovered in spite of that. Why the boy before you had several severed nerves in the arm he was stabbed in, but you seemed to have made a miraculous full recovery. Normally an injury like that, along with the damage to your brain would have taken months to fully heal from, if ever. But you my boy, you managed to recover in a mere two weeks."

"I…" Midoriya Izuku flexed his bandage wrapped right arm.

"Wait! Did you say two weeks!?"

The Doctor curiously raised a brow, as if to say 'That's the part you are concerned about?'.

"Indeed my boy, but do not fret. With how well you recovered should be able to be discharged in a few days, possibly even tomorrow. And besides…"

*Knock Knock*

"You have a most unusual frequency of guests."

The doctor hobbled over to the door, closing it behind him.

From what he could gather, the doctor seemed to be explaining the situation to whoever came to visit.

Midoriya Izuku was left pondering who that person was. His mother? The mentor he spoke of?

But the one who walked in was neither a middle aged woman nor an academically esteemed professor.

She was beautiful.

That was the first thing that came to Midoriya Izuku's mind.

The girl had brown hair, styled in a short bobbed cut.

She had rosy cheeks with a permanent blush.

Her eyes were large and round with a soft brown colour.

And she came to visit him.

Was she…

"Umm… are you my girlfriend?"

"What!?"

Was he wrong? The transparent boy questioned himself. Was she not his girlfriend? Either way she must have been close enough to him to visit.

That's when he realised how strange it must be for her.

For someone you've known and grown to care for not know who you are.

For someone to not share the same memories be it good or bad after knowing each other for so long.

It was like a child asking their mother 'Who are you?' after waking up from a coma.

That moment of pure heartbreak, when the one you love and cared for doesn't even know your name.

That was what he was doing to this girl right now.

"Ahh! I'm so sorry! You see I kinda- sorta-"

"Y-you… you really did lose your memories did you Deku-kun?"

"Eh? What do you mean by Deku…"

He noticed the tears welling up in her beautiful brown eyes.

"AHH! I'm so-"

"No! I-It's fine! It's…*Sniff*"

He gave her a moment to let out her tears.

What kind of insensitive jerk was he? He should have known better than to act as carelessly as this.

"Hahahahaha!"

And thats when the laughter came.

Midoriya Izuku suddenly broke into manic laughter.

"Deku-kun?…"

"Hahaha… Oh man I can't believe you fell for it! Memory loss… as if that-"

"Stop it."

"Eh?"

The girl's sadness had turned to fury. "Stop lying to me!"

"W-What? Come on, i-it was just a-"

"Just a joke? Then tell me, what's my name?"

"Uhh…"

The girl sighed, and laughter filled the room once again.

Only this time it was the girl who was laughing.

"I-I'm sorry -haha- It's-It's just like so you Deku-kun."

"Uh, what is?"

"This stupid act, trying to make me feel better, it's just like you."

The girl smiled as a tear dribbled down her rosy cheek.

"But please, if you really have amnesia you're the one that needs help. I know it's hard but for now could you please put yourself first?"

"I- uh ok?"

The girl giggled, and put her hand out.

"Hi my name is Uraraka Ochako."

The transparent boy shook hands.

"Hello Uraraka-san, my name is Midoriya Izuku. I think?"

Uraraka giggled again.

"You think?"

"Uhh, right now it's between that and… Deku was it?"

"Oh! No no no that's just a nickname you've had since… I actually don't know, but you let me call you that."

"So it's like a nickname nickname? Or a pet name or something?"

"Eh. Eto…" Uraraka's blush grew across her whole face.

"Y-Y-You c-could say t-that."

"Ah that's fine then, so what's my pet name for you?"

"!"

Her face turned an incredible shade of crimson, Izuku was starting to worry.

"Y-You u-usually just call me O-O-O-OCHAkoooo…Fuwaaa…."

She covered her face with her hands and started to float.

"Eh? Hold on, I got you!" Izuku stood up and reached out to her legs, grabbing them in an effort to pull her down.

Suddenly gravity returned for the blushing maiden who was sent tumbling to the floor.

An unusually green floor.

"Eh!"

Uraraka fell flat on top of the warded patient.

"Ano… Ochako-san?"

"….."

"Ochako-san!?"

Looking closer Izuku could see that swirls had formed in her eyes.

The door creaked open. "Ah before I forget my boy, you need to sign…"

"…"

"Ah! I apologise I forget how rowdy youngsters can be nowadays, carry on."

The door shut with a little more force than intended.

And Izuku had the overwhelming urge to say.

"Such misfortune."
