"We're dead. We are sooooo dead."
Lohiau felt his heart beat fast as worrying thoughts whirled inside his head like a vicious storm.
He gripped his wife's hand tightly as he felt his anxiety grow with each passing moment.
The last time he had even seen her was when they ran away from the crater to the island of Kaua'i.
It has been 200 years since that happened.
Lohiau looked at his wife with anxiety welling up inside of him, he didn't know what to do.
Pele surely will not thrilled about them being married and having kids considering she didn't even have a say in the matter when they eloped.
Hi'iaka took a deep breath in and started to rub her husband's hand gently, "I'm sure everything will be okay, darling. She probably won't even find us, I mean we have gone so many years without seeing a trace of her…this could just be something minor-"
Lohiau started to pace back and forth nervously as he whispered, his voice frantic and full of worry. He spoke so low so that his wife was the only one who could hear clearly, "Everything is never fine when it comes to her. This can't be happening. Oh gods, I'm not ready to face her again, we don't even have enough power to fight her. What does she want?!"
The chiefess tried to interject to answer her husband's question but he just kept on whispering, getting more and more frantic with each moment, "Why am I even asking that! I know exactly what she is looking for, this is not going to end well, she is going to kill or curse us for sure this time I just know it, I can see it now-"
He then felt a pair of arms wrap around him into a tight hug, as she whispered into his ear softly, "Breathe, my love, breathe…everything is going to be alright. We'll figure this out."
Lohiau sighed with relief, tiny tears rolling down his eyes as he felt his wife's comforting embrace as she rubbed his back gently with one of her hands.
As they pulled away from each other, Lohiau put his hand on his wife's face, and gave a gentle smile, "What would I ever do without you?"
Hi'iaka couldn't stop giggling as he caressed her face giving her little kisses as he did so.
She smiled, "This still is an issue though. I think I am going to have to talk to the other gods about getting some added protection…just in case something goes…well, crazy."
He gave her a curious look, wondering where she was going with this, "What did you exactly have in mind?"
"Namaka is way too busy these days, and Mother and Father would just tell me to not bother anyone over such 'trivial matters'….hmm…"
She thought for a moment and then it came to her like lightning, "Oh my gods, I got it! Poliahu, Lilinoe, Kahoupokane, and Waiau! Of course! My sister has hated them with a PASSION for years, they are bound to have something that'll ward her off from coming here and causing trouble."
Lohiau narrowed his eyes, he knew vaguely of these goddesses but nothing compared to what his immortal wife knew, "Don't they live all the way in Mauna Kea though? Seems a pretty far journey just to talk to them."
Hi'iaka excitedly explained, "No no, I'll invite them over here for dinner and games! They are big thrill seekers, they won't pass up that opportunity. Oh it'll be so much fun, plus I think the girls would love them, they are very good at hair makeovers and sledding."
He still couldn't help but voice uncertainties about this whole plan, despite his wife's excitement, "That sounds lovely, dear, it really does…. but how do you even know they'll care enough to help us anyways? I mean aren't they very…..standoffish and to themselves most of the time? I mean I heard once that one of them froze a guy to death."
She smiled, "Well, they do live close to each other. Trust me when I say they are nothing like Pele though…believe me. Out of all of them, Poliahu can be the coldest when she is moody….but you have to really, really try to get her angry."
She held her husband's hands and looked at him with a face of determination, she was dead set on this plan working in her favor.
Lohiau knew there was no way he was going to talk her out of it when she wore it, "Well…anyone who is a friend of yours is a friend of mine too."
She felt her worries drift away as she started to plan out the invitations to send to the sisters excitedly, as she ran into their hut in search of her herbs in order to cast the message.
Maui then stumbled out of the dancing ring while the girls still played, exhausted. He walked over towards the chief and laid on the ground breathing hard.
Lohiau chuckled as he looked at the exhausted demigod, "I take it the girls wore you out there, didn't they?"
Maui cracked his neck and stood back up again after a couple minutes of catching his breath, "Yeah, nothing I couldn't handle though. I am a demigod after all. Where'd your wife go?"
He shook his head, "She is trying to invite Poliahu and her sisters here to get some help with this whole situation, I suppose. Don't really know them that well to be honest though…do you?"
Maui smirked, "Poli and her gals are very fun to have around, especially if you got a sick luau party going on. The prettiest women you'll probably ever meet, and I've seen a lot of women in my life."
He stretched out his arms and sat down on the hammock beside him, with his arms behind his head, "They're definitely big on gossip and talking though, so don't tell them ANYTHING you don't want being shared with literally everyone."
Lohiau felt a bit better about the upcoming visit after hearing Maui's thoughts on it, but still couldn't shake this feeling of anxiety still in the depths of his stomach.
"What are your thoughts on this whole situation…I mean your true thoughts? Do you think this is the right thing to do? I feel like my wife might be inciting her by doing this to be honest I mean….I don't know…"
Maui shrugged nonchalantly as he swung lightly in his hammock, "Listen dude, I try not to get involved when it comes to these kinds of situations…ESPECIALLY when it comes to lava lady over there. Arguments between gods tend to get messy really fast."
The twins came rushing up to Maui and shook the hammock, "Uncle Maaaaui, why did you leave?"
Maui chuckled, "Girls, I'm sorry but your ol' Uncle over here is all tuckered out for the night."
They groaned and pouted, "Aw…but if you won't dance with us who will?"
Lohiau bent down to pick up his tiny daughters and walked with them towards the luau circle, "Come on girls, you've worn out your Uncle long enough today."
The girls started to cheer excitedly as he carried them in his arms.
As Maui laid on the hammock and finally started to drift off to sleep, the hula drums lulling him….he gazed over at the horizon in front of him and saw a familiar boat on the water coming towards the island.
