Summary: Soulmate AU where the first word you hear/say to your soulmate is written on your body.
Amy has always dreamed of meeting her soulmate. Ever since she was a little girl. Her parents had always told her that meeting your soulmate will be the best thing to ever happen to you. That your soulmark will be the first word you'll hear them say. She was always curious about her soulmate: wondering how they'd act, how they'd look, their likes and dislikes and their personality. Yet after 22 years of waiting, there was no sign of her soulmate. Making her wonder if her soulmate even exists. It may be too early to think that, but she was desperate for her soulmate. She has been patiently waiting for all these years now. All she wants is to be with her soulmate. To have someone to be by her side, share each other's thoughts and love one another. Amy sighs, looking up to the store's sign in front of her.
Lily's of the valley; a flower shop which Amy goes to frequently. She walks through the open door, seeing the owner behind the desk. Who wore a huge grin on her face. "Ah! My frequent costumer, how are you today?" Amy walks toward the desk and returns the grin. Lily and the pink hedgehog had become good friends; they have been for years now.
"I'm fine Lily. I'm here for the usual." Amy smiles. Lily nods in response and turns to grab a bundle of red roses.
As the lady does so, Amy takes the time to gaze at her soulmark. She lifts her left arm, viewing the word 'faker' written in black. It was an odd word to her. But hey, an odd word could help her find her soulmate easier. If she ever finds them. "Here you go, miss Rose." Lily's voice breaks Amy out of her gaze. She quickly shakes her head and smiles. Taking the roses which now were in a basket.
"Thanks! I may find my soulmate today. I can feel it." She says with enthusiasm. Amy leans the basket handle onto her right arm.
Lily giggles, "Maybe; I mean, you never know when you'll meet them. I found my Jim during an earthquake in the movie theater." They both share a short laugh, as Amy pays for the beautiful roses. They both wave goodbye as Amy leaves the store.
Once Amy closes the door behind her, she takes a small peek at her roses. There was about 10 roses in the basket. Enough to put in her new vase to share and admire with her friends. Maybe even share a rose with her soul-
"Watch it, faker!"
Her head shot up from the second she heard faker. Could that be her soulmate? Their voice was rather deep and contained not as much emotion as someone usually has when angry. Amy looks to the right, where she heard the deep voice. There was two hedgehogs down the street; in front of a music store (Being 2 stores away from Amy). One was a blue hedgehog, who she knew to be one of her friends, it was Sonic. Whilst the other was a black and red hedgehog, scowling at her friend. Amy has never seen this hedgehog before. He had somewhat of a mysterious aura; it was an aura that Amy wanted to explore.
"You watch it Shadow! You're the one who isn't looking in front of you." Sonic snaps back. Making the other hedgehog, apparently named Shadow, scoffs in disgust.
"Well, you shouldn't have been looking down at your phone either." He says before turning his back to Sonic. Walking down the street, ignoring Sonic doing raspberries sounds behind him. As he walks toward Amy, he quickly notices her staring. Shadow stops in front of her, "What are you staring at?" Amy forms a huge smile. Her dreams were finally becoming true; she has found her soulmate!
A loud squeal leaves Amy's lips, causing Shadow to cringe from how loud it was. Before he could react or question the shorter hedgehog's squeal, her arms suddenly wrapped around his neck. Pulling him into a hug. Shadow, unsure of what to do, just stood still and waited for her to pull away. "You're my soulmate!" Amy cheers, having small jumps during their hug. His crimson eyes widen in pure shock; he never believed in the soulmate myth. He didn't want to get his hopes up of actually finding someone to love. At least, not finding another to love again. The last time he did, she soon left him. So he was never interested in dating after his ex left him. For a soulmate that she met for one day. While she and Shadow knew each other since they were in diapers. She was so quick to throw him away. It was unfair how fast she was to throw him away for a soulmate, a soulmate that this so called universe forces someone to be with.
Amy pulls away after 3 minuets of hugging, when Shadow was actually getting use to the hug. It was a nice, warm feeling. A feeling he hadn't felt in a while. "I'm Amy, Amy Rose!" She grins, too excited to meet her soulmate. Then again, who wouldn't be?
Shadow slightly opens his mouth in surprise, "R-rose?" She answers with a nod, finding it odd that he was stuttering over rose.
"Yeah? Is something wrong Shadow?" Amy begins to worry if she has done something wrong. Shadow shakes his head, lifting up his right arm. Amy glances to down to his arm... there was 'rose' written in pink. "Wow..." She says, noticing how the bright pink heavily contrasts with his black fur.
Shadow notices the roses in Amy's arms, which were surprisingly not damaged from the rib crushing hug the pink hedgehog gave him. His lips form a small grin, "I'm guessing my soulmark was rose for not only your name." He attempts at a joke, eyeing down to the basket of roses. Amy looks down to them, before letting out a small giggle. He smiles in triumph; it was rare his jokes would actually work (since his jokes mostly consist of dry humor).
"Maybe, roses are my favorite flowers!" She reaches her free hand outward to her soulmate. Shadow was hesitant at first, since he wasn't use to physical contact with others. But he soon reaches out, allowing her to hold his hand with hers. "You can see more of them at my place. That's, if you'd like to." Shadow's smile brightens, appreciating how sweet Amy was.
"I'd love to."
