Seeing the familiar outline of the Pokémon Centre, May grimaced as Brendan continued to rage about his brother's immaturity. So far she'd heard him mention three times that Orlando doesn't pick up after himself if he helps Brendan with his research, that he wasn't that eager to help and that Brendan had to look after him, detracting from their research.
Did she really need to be reminded that Orlando left his dirty socks lying everywhere?
'Calm down, I'm sure that there's a reason as to why they disappeared,' May assured the man, though it fell on deaf ears when he saw Nurse Joy.
The woman didn't even turn to acknowledge them, her attention captured by the TV in the far corner, her eyes wide and hands clenched on her chest with visible apprehension. On it were images of Orlando and Wally, both looking remarkably worse for wear at the hands of Team Aqua and Magma.
'Yeah, and it's on the TV screen. That bloody idiot can't even get away from Team Aqua or Team Magma without needing my help,' Brendan scowled before turning back to run out of the door.
May only hesitated slightly before chasing him, not responding to the nurse as she asked if everything was ok.
'We'll never get there in time!' Brendan seethed, pacing nervously outside.
'Brendan!' She hissed, though he didn't react to her, his eyes darting everywhere and breathing shallow.
'Oh for the love of Lugia, Brendan, we can get the car!' May called to the man, who paused at her words.
'We'll get there faster, plus I'm sure we'll have clearance to get past the reporters in there. Remember, the car is from Devon Corporation; we're bound to be able to go places others can't. Us two on foot are getting nowhere,' May grimaced at the man, crossing her arms as she struck an unimpressed pose at the man. She'd seen Mrs Birch utilise this tactic many a time and was desperately hoping it would work.
The man considered her words once before turning back to run through Rusturf Tunnel, scrambling over his own feet in his rush to get there already.
With a grimace, May ran after him, wishing she'd changed from her plain trainers and into her running shoes.
Jumping over pokémon that tried to battle her, May ran through Rusturf Tunnel, silently cursing each rock she slid on, or each fragment she tripped on, knowing that her rush through the dark tunnel would have been steadier in her running shoes.
Seeing the car at the end of the tunnel, May continued to run, ignoring the stitch she was getting in her side.
Orlando needed her, her dying from a stitch could be dealt with later.
'Hurry up, will you?' Brendan's voice roared, spurring the younger woman on as the front car door was yanked open. She saw Brendan jump into the front passenger seat before she struggled with the door.
With an irritated growl, May wrenched the door open sat in the car behind him, the engine turning on as she buckled up and shut the door with a snap, her heart pounding painfully in her chest.
