Ignoring Thor's frantic calling, the young woman drew out her rapier and launched at the glider just as it passed her by. While still in midair, she strung the blade forward, effectively piercing the Chitauri in control of the strange flying object just as she landed on it. The monster cried out in pain and protest. But before it could try to attack her in any way, Luciana sent it flying with a well directed kick as she pulled her rapier out of its body. She could hear its mad growl for only a second as it quickly fell towards the ground.
Having lost its pilot, the glider dipped down dangerously to the right, almost causing the woman to lose her balance. Luckily she managed to reach the handles just in time before she could crash headfirst into a building. It took her a few moments to adjust to steering the airglider but soon Luciana was flying it just as skilfully as the aliens around her.
The aliens that were now starting to follow her as they attempted to shoot her down.
"Goddammit! Can't a woman go and kick some ass in peace!?" she yelled as she set course upon the glider a few hundred meters in front of her. "God, that helmet is still as ridiculous as ever. But at least I won't lose sight of you like that Loki."
As she darted through Manhattan's streets, passing by several of her newfound comrades that were fighting the aliens, all while avoiding to get shut down like some hunted bird, she got another clear look at the chaos and destruction on the ground. There was one particular car she passed whose front had been crushed by a huge piece of debris. The way it was still located in the middle of the street, she could only imagine what had happened to its passengers. She gulped at the mental image. However, as she flew over it, Luciana could swear that she heard someone screaming from inside. Her heart dropped at the desperate sound, but she couldn't afford to stop and check, not now. Not when her taking a detour for just one moment could cause horror ten times worse. But she made sure to store the location of the car carefully in her brain. She would send someone over there later, hoping that it wouldn't be too late already.
Distracted for a second, Luciana didn't notice how her glider had started to descend towards the ground.
"Oh, shit!" she screamed as she realized that she had set course on a group of people that were strangely aligned in some kind of circle in the middle of the street. "No, no, no! WATCH OUT!"
"LUCY!?" several voices shouted in her direction, as she desperately yanked her glider upwards.
"Guys!?" the brunette screamed, having recognized her companions.
"Uh oh."
"Not good."
"DUCK!" Steve yelled from the top of his lungs.
Not a moment too soon they all crouched down. A second later and their heads would have made contact with the hard glistening metal of Luciana's glider. "I'm sorryyyyy!" she shouted as she was gaining on height again, distancing herself from the group. Baffled, Dr. Banner watched her figure slowly disappear from their sight. "What is she doing?"
"Playing Mario Kart - Alien Space Glider Edition." Tony replied with his trademark snark. However, he didn't receive the reaction he had hoped for.
"..."
"..."
"Oh, come on! Do none of you know what Mario Kart is?"
Back up in the air, the distance between her and her target had grown wider. While the number of her pursuers only had increased. "Shit." she gritted her teeth as she avoided yet another laser beam.
"Need a hand?" a voice resounded from beside her. She couldn't afford to turn her head away from the front, but the sound was familiar enough for her to tell who it was.
"That you Tin Man?"
"It's Iron Man." the man replied, slightly offended.
"Iron huh? Sorry, never heard of that. We don't have that on Asgard."
"What? Really? What's in your blood then?"
Luciana chuckled at the man's confusion.
"You're messing with me."
A grin appeared on her lips. "Maybe~"
"And here I thought I'd be nice and offer my help to the Lady."
"Well, you're free to play some shoot 'em up with those guys anytime."
"How do you not know iron but know what a shoot 'em up is?"
"I wonder~"
"Wait, do you know Mario Kart?"
"Know? Are you kidding? I'm a pro at Mario Kart!" she spoke, a hint of pride in her voice. No sooner had the words left her mouth, Luciana sped up her glider, smoothly avoiding a hoard of Chitauri darting towards her, before dipping under one of the huge space whales, avoiding a collision just in time.
"I'll be jiggered…" Tony spoke in awe just as he passed by the God of Thunder who had just been channeling lightning at the portal in vain. "Point Break, you sure that chick is one of yours?"
Having lost a number of chasers thanks to Tony, Luciana finally managed to close some of the distance between her and Loki. Albeit it was far from enough for her to try anything. That's when Natasha suddenly rose up beside her, having mounted one of the gliders herself. "Hi, there Nat. How's it going? You having a smooth flight?"
The redhead chuckled. "Heh. Could be worse. How about you? Ready to catch a god?"
"Anytime."
"Good, then head towards Stark Tower."
The brunette raised an eyebrow. "Stark Tower? But that's-"
"Trust us."
"Us?" That's when she noticed the man who had been brainwashed by Loki before. Apparently he had snapped out of it somehow. And now he was readying his arrows. "Oh. Alright! You better have something else planned than some arrow though. I'm pretty sure he'd just catch it in midair." she warned Natasha as she turned her glider to change its direction towards the tower she had just escaped from again.
"Oh, I am counting on that."
A few moments later she was back on the balcony, and already she could hear an explosion behind her. Surprised, she turned around, just in time to see Loki's body tumbling down on the ground of the railing. "Nice shot." she admitted with a grin.
Against her immediate thought of running towards him, she instead dashed inside the lounge. A smart choice as he did the same after having scrambled to his feet. He looked a bit tattered from the explosion and there was dirt and dust plastered all over his body.
"Oh, my king is finally back~ I've just gotten tired of waiting."
He scoffed at her obvious taunt. "Very funny."
Luciana casually strode down the stairs. For once she was the one displaying the smirk.
"Don't think you've won just because you shot me down once. I'm a god and these humans will never-"
Not feeling like having to listen to another one of his speeches, Luciana only let out a sigh and snapped her fingers. But instead of her using her powers, the Hulk appeared seemingly out of nowhere, like a well trained dog heading the call of its owner. He grabbed the completely caught off guard Loki and well… Proceeded to smash him into the ground. Once. Twice. A lot of times.
"Ooof. Ouch." Luciana commented as she observed the scene in front of her. By the time the Hulk was done with him, Loki was lying motionless on the ground. Or what was left of the ground. A long, weak and pained whimpering sound came from him. It was a bit of a pathetic sight.
"Puny god." the Hulk growled in a judging tone as he strode back towards the hole in the window he had entered from. Before he disappeared through it, he looked back at Luciana who was giving him a thumbs up. "Good job big guy! I'll take it from here~ You can go and smash some more aliens."
"Hulk smash!" a strangely happy sounding growl resounded from his mouth before he jumped out the window, straight onto one of the space whales, destroying it in process.
"My, he sure sounded happy. Well…" Slowly Luciana strode over to where Loki's body was lying. He appeared to be unconscious. A sly smile on her lips she crouched down and began to poke his cheek. "What to do with you now~"
I'll go down, down like lightning
"So, what exactly am I looking at here?" Tony asked Natasha with a raised eyebrow.
"I don't know but they've been at it ever since I got here."
"Ah, this brings back memories."
"You're telling me this is a recurring thing, Point Break?"
Thor let out a laugh. "Oh, quite so. This happened a lot of times when we grew up. You know, whenever one of my brother's schemes went too far, Lucy here would hold him a several hour long tirade about everything wrong with what he did. And Loki being Loki would attempt to interrupt her several times, downplaying his deeds."
"I take it that didn't go so well for him." Steve interrupted the blonde.
"No, not at all. It only ever made her angrier and prolonged her speech."
"Then why doesn't he just shut up and-" Dr. Banner began, but quickly silenced himself. "Ah, no, forget it. Dumb question. I noticed as I said it."
"Why doesn't she shut him up though?"
They all took their eyes off the arguing Asgardians and for a moment directed their attention at Natasha, before looking at Thor with expectant eyes. However, the God of Thunder seemed to lack an answer to that question himself. "That- Well. Hm."
Realizing they wouldn't have their curiosity satisfied, the group turned back to the scene in front of them. Tony, however, had had enough.
"I'm gonna stop them."
"I don't think that's a go-"
"Look, I'm hungry, ok? Hey! Echo Girl!"
"WHAT!?" the brunette snapped in her fury.
"Woah, woah. Tone it down, would you? I know you're in the middle of… something… here, but we were gonna go and grab a bite to eat, after we're done here. So if you could hurry it up, that would be much appreciated."
A moment Luciana just stared at the other man and for a second Tony feared she would target him next, but he turned out to be lucky this time. "Oh! Why didn't you say so earlier? I'm starving! Let's go, let's go!"
"What? Well- You seemed to be- Ack, nevermind."
Sensing his chance, Loki, who had been slouched at the end of the stairs so far, scrambled to his feet, determined to try one last pathetic attempt at turning things around. "Lucy, listen. I know this doesn't look exactly good right now. But if we join forces now, we can turn this around. The humans won't stand a chance."
The woman blinked. "Huh?"
"I'll be king and you, you get to be the queen! We can rule over Midgard, together!"
"This nonsense again…" she let out a sigh. But in the same breath an idea popped up in her head and her lips slowly curled into a sugary sweet smile. "Hmm, alright~"
"WHAT!?"
The unified shocked yell of her comrades echoed through the lounge. And even though it had been his suggestion, the God of Mischief apparently hadn't expected her to agree with him either, as his eyes turned wide in surprise. For once he seemed to be at a loss for words.
"I'll be your queen Loki~" she began in a sweet song as she strode down the small stairs towards where he was standing. "And in my new position as your queen I have to fulfill my most important duty. That is to kick the king's ass for the bullshit he fabricated!"
"Wha- URGH!?"
Faster than everyone could blink, Luciana had hoisted her leg and set on for another well-directed round-house kick. Her right foot connected with Loki's stomach for the second time today. Whether it was because of his body still being weakened from the Hulk's assault or due to Luciana's sheer force of impact, his body tumbled backwards to the ground like a wet bag of sand. And before he could even attempt to move from that position, Luciana put her foot down on his chest, pressing her heel down on his ribcage. Before he lost consciousness once more, he apparently made some sort of sound. Or rather he would have, if she hadn't silenced him. Although, for a quick second, she wondered what it would have sounded like. But she quickly shook it off and turned to the others. "What was that about grabbing a bite?"
Silence filled the room as every pair of eyes stared at the brunette in awe. "Agent Romanoff, I've changed my opinion, we should definitely keep her."
The next time Loki opened his eyes, he was surrounded by the whole group, every single of their weapons pointed at him. A defeated and strained laugh escaped his lips as he looked up at them. "If it's all the same to you, I'd like to have that drink now."
Luciana smiled, not so much at his attempt to be funny in the dire situation he was in, but more so because she realized that the haze in his eyes was finally gone.
Don't wanna go
I'm holding on tight
"I've never heard of Shawarma before, but it was quite good. Don't you think so too, Thor?" Luciana asked the God of Thunder as she walked beside him, a joyous swing in her step. She appeared to be in a good mood after everything had been resolved. Or well, almost everything. They were about to head back home using the power of the Tesseract. SHIELD had built them some kind of device which could function as a sort of activator for the artifact. They were currently walking towards the two agents who were waiting for them with a briefcase containing said device. It was a nice and sunny day, not giving away any of the destruction and terror that had transpired on the island of Manhatten a mere few days ago.
While walking, Luciana kept taking glances at Loki from time to time. His hands had been tied in chains and his mouth was gagged. She knew that she shouldn't but she couldn't stop herself from feeling a tiny bit sorry for him, albeit she knew that he only had to thank himself for his current treatment. Well, and whoever had given him that scepter in the first place. They hadn't found out where it had come from and it bugged her. However, as of now there was nothing she could do about it.
The brunette didn't know whether the God of Mischief didn't notice her looking or simply chose to ignore it, but he only kept on staring straight ahead. She would have indulged him in an, admittedly, rather one sided conversation, but hey, better than only receiving the full on war criminal treatment. But seeing as he apparently wasn't interested, she instead turned to chatting with the older brother again. Had she kept looking, she would have seen Loki rolling his eyes at the two of them in annoyance.
When they finally arrived at the terrace, which SHIELD had deemed safe for their returning procedure, Thor accepted the strange device into his hands. Luciana looked around. Tony, Steve, Natasha, Clint, Bruce - they were all there, forming a half circle around the three Asgardians. Even though they had only been together for a short while, she felt like she had found a group of friends in them. A strange and equally as powerful as eccentric group of friends.
"This is goodbye-" the God of Thunder began to say, but Luciana interrupted him. "For now! …Come on don't look so surprised Thor! I heard the castle guards speaking about how the Allfather is planning to rebuild the Bifrost."
"What? How do you know that? I didn't think you were able to grasp anything going on in Asgard in your state of gri- Ouch!" Thor was stopped mid-sentence again, this time by the sensation of being boxed in the left arm. The notion drew laughter from the group standing around them. "A woman can cry and simultaneously listen to what's being said around her. It's called multitasking, you know?"
Loki curiously watched the scene in front of him, an eyebrow raised. He still wasn't used to his brother and Luciana suddenly getting along. And he didn't know whether he liked it.
"Anyways, we really should head off. Brother." Thor notioned the other man to take the second handle of the device. And for once he reluctantly did as he was told.
"Well, excuse me boys, while I just-" Luciana took the free hand of each brother into her own as she laughed. "I'd rather not stay here. No offense."
"None taken!" it came from Tony.
To her surprise, she felt that Loki's hand was trembling ever so slightly. Even though he would rather die on the spot than to ever admit it, he was afraid of what awaited him back on Asgard, she surmised. The thought tugged on her heartstrings and she gave his hand a little squeeze, as if to say "It's gonna be alright". She felt him flinch in response, like an electric shock had just been sent through his body. And for a second she thought he would yank his hand away from her, just as Thor turned the handle of the device, activating the Tesseract's power in response. But in contrast to her expectations he wrapped his fingers around the hand that was holding on to his, tightening his grip like his life depended on it. For a second she flinched as the sudden pressure reminded her of the wound on her finger that still burned from time to time.
She didn't know whether he had realized that she was hurt, or just simply took her reaction as a sign of aversion, but Loki loosened his grip ever so slightly. Luciana hoped it was the first. Not knowing for sure, she looked up at him but the blue light that had started to engulf their bodies prevented her from seeing his expression. She couldn't even tell whether he was looking at her or if he still kept on staring straight ahead. Soon all she could see was blue and the familiar feeling of traveling across a portal washed over her. The last thing Luciana heard were the voices of her new friends that wished them a safe journey. The next instant they were gone.
When am I, when am I gonna start living?
Yeah, I was king
