The first thing she noticed when her eyelids slowly fluttered open was the white of the cell walls. It was so bright she had to squint several times until her eyes finally adjusted to it. Hesitantly she raised her head from the glass. Her whole body felt sore from sleeping on the hard floor and her neck hurt.
"I can think of at least 30 places more comfortable to sleep at than your spot." a voice resounded to her right. Still feeling the drowsiness in her bones it took her a moment to recognize the man it belonged to. Loki was sitting at the single table, his long slender legs crossed as he read the book in his hands. Her eyes went wide as the memories of the past 48 h came rushing back to her and she hastily scrambled to her feet.
"So, did Sleeping Beauty get lost on the way to her chamber? Did Fandral slip you a glass of wine again?" he spoke nonchalantly without any concern in his voice. The whole scene seemed way too casual.
"Did they not tell you? …That your mother is-"
"That the queen is dead?"
Luciana gasped at the way he said those words. Nonchalant. Matter-of-factly. Cold.
"Yes, they told me. So? What did or did not happen to that woman is of no concern to me. In fact, I don't care at all."
For a second the brunette couldn't believe her ears. But whatever shock she felt at his words, it was short lived. She wouldn't be fooled so easily. There was no way she would fall for his trick. Because this is what this had to be.
A trick, an illusion - a lie .
Her green eyes carefully studied the image of Loki in front of her. She searched for something amiss, something that would give him away. A glint in his eyes, a momentarily drop of the everlasting smirk on his lips.
No it wouldn't be in his face. He had perfected the mask he put on to hide his emotions a long time ago. It had to be somewhere else. Slowly her eyes wandered lower. That's when she saw it. His right hand. There was a slight tremor in it. He tried to hide it by clenching down on the book he was holding, but it was no use. She could see it.
Luciana opened her mouth, ready to expose his carefully set up illusion, however, a voice behind her interrupted her before she could.
"Lady Echo?" It was a guard. "Prince Thor has been searching everywhere for you."
"Has he? I'm sure he can wait another 10 min, I'm somewhat busy here."
"I'm afraid he can't. He said it is a matter of grave importance." The guard moved in closer to her, whispering to her. "It concerns Jane Foster."
Her eyes widened in surprise and soon a stern expression appeared on her face. Loki, who had been quietly watching, raised an eyebrow at the strange interaction, clearly curious about what this was about.
Luciana sighed, it seemed like she had no choice. "Alright. Lead the way."
The guard nodded and made way towards the stairs. She turned to follow him but not before speaking to the man in the cell. "I'll come back."
He chuckled hollowly. "Well, I'll make sure to be here when you do."
And Oh, Oh, how could you do it?
The God of Thunder and his closest companions sat in a dark lit room, hidden away from the average Asgardian eye. They were discussing their plan of using Jane as bait to draw Malekith out to the Dark World. The goal was to kill him right after he had removed the Aether from the scientist. It was a rather reckless plan, bordering on stupid. Yet it wasn't the most foolish plan Thor had ever come up with.
The only problem was leaving Asgard without getting noticed by the guards or the Allfather himself.
"The Bifrost isn't the only way out of Asgard. There are many secret passages. But they are not known to many."
"Only to one, actually."
The room went silent at what the prince was hinting at.
"Do I see a jailbreak on the horizon?" an amused female voice broke the quiet, drawing everyone's eyes on her.
"Luciana!" the blonde exclaimed, visibly happy about her presence. "You're late!"
"Oh, I've been here for a while already. Just didn't feel like interrupting the conversation."
"Her level of stealth never fails to amaze me." Sif noted. "Are we sure she's not secretly a ninja?" A chuckle went through the room.
"Anyways," Luciana began, "in fact I just talked to the man in question. And I think this could work."
"You… You talked to my brother?"
She nodded.
"How is-"
"And you actually think that evil little snake will help us? How can you be sure he won't just stab us in the back at the next best opportunity?" Sif interrupted, not hiding the animosity she held against the second prince.
"Oh, I'm sure he'll help. The queen was his mother after all." Luciana asserted with confidence in her voice. "No guarantee on the stabbing part though."
Oh, Oh, I need an ending
She stood at the far end of the grand hallway leading from the dungeons towards the entrance of Asgard's castle. Leaning casually against one of the pillars, she had hidden away her presence by eradicating any sounds around her. At the same time she enheightened her own hearing, hence being aware of the position of every guard in close enough proximity. If one came close enough to notice their operation she would be able to alert the others. That was if they didn't already expose themselves on their own. Luciana could already hear the bickering brothers from miles away - or not bickering. It was more so Loki rambling and making sure to annoy the God of Thunder in any possible way in just the short time of five minutes.
"Idiots." she whispered as she witnessed Thor pushing his brother against a wall, barely managing to hide the two of them from two passing guards.
"I leave you two alone for 5 seconds and you almost manage to alert the whole castle." she frowned as she approached them.
"Lucy!" the God of Mischief exclaimed at her sight, sounding happier than he had intended to. "I can't believe you agreed to one of my brother's reckless ideas."
"Well, someone has to keep you two idiots in check. Although, I'm already beginning to think our chances of success would be a thousand times higher if I'd just left you two here and did this on my own."
They both chuckled nervously at her jab, not being able to deny it.
"You could at least furnish me with a weapon. My dagger, something." Loki addressed Thor who just stared at him, but soon fumbled for something metallic hidden under his long coat.
"At last. A little common sense." his brother continued, sounding proud at himself for seemingly having gotten his way so easily. However the clicking sound that followed soon after rained on his parade. He raised his now cuffed hands and looked at the blonde with a deadpan expression that seemed to say "Really?"
"I thought you liked tricks." the God of Thunder retorted, not even trying to hide the cheeky grin on his lips.
Luciana chuckled at the sight, immediately drawing a frown from the younger prince.
"Aren't you supposed to be on my side? You never sided with my brother when we were young."
"True. But times change." she shrugged.
"So you switched sides like a traitor." he said with a sulky undertone.
She tilted her head to the side, as if to think, before replying with a sly smile on her lips. "Hmm, maybe~ Or maybe, I've just taken a liking to seeing you in cuffs."
With that she turned on her heels, heading after Thor down the hall. Leaving behind a momentarily flabbergasted Loki, before he scrambled to follow her steps.
They soon met up with Sif who had "abducted" Jane from the chamber the Allfather had locked her in. Upon the sight of the three, the scientist made her way towards the blackhaired man. "You are…"
"Loki, you may have heard-"
SLAP!
"That was for New York!" Not even letting him finish, the brunette had slapped him across the face with her flat hand, his head turning sideways from the impact. However, instead of turning angry a grin appeared on Loki's face as he exclaimed "I like her."
Shaking their heads Thor, Jane and Sif moved on, leaving him behind with Luciana who judgingly raised an eyebrow at him.
"Yours hit harder." he said with the same smile, which didn't impress the brunette much.
"I know." she retorted unfazed. "And I can hit you right now, if that's what you want."
"Heh, well-"
"Move it you two." Sif's annoyed voice resounded from a little away, reminding the two that they still had business to attend to.
Soon they had to split from the female warrior as she stayed behind to stall the guards sent by the Allfather as the other four tried to make their escape via the Dark Elves's spaceship that had crashed in the castle. Volstagg had waited for the group, guiding them inside, but not before threatening the second prince.
"Why does everyone want to murder me so badly?" he playfully asked the brunette, pretending to be offended.
"If you want me to answer that, we'll be here til tomorrow."
He scoffed. "Have you always been this mean?"
"Nope, only to liars."
"I can't remember having lied to you in a very long time."
"That is another lie. You were lying the whole time yesterday and today too."
"And very badly at that." Thor mumbled from behind them, thumbling with the ship's controls. The God of Mischief turned around. "What was that?"
"Oh, nothing. I'm just saying that really wasn't your best work down there. A rather weak illusion. Pathetic really."
"Really, now. If it was that pathetic, how come nobody noticed?" he spoke, sounding a bit like a child who's trick just got exposed. Then he went quiet for a moment. "Now that I think about it- You were never the perceptive one around here. How come you noticed, brother?"
"Oh, I didn't. Lucy did. She told me."
Loki's eyes widened and he turned back around to the woman behind him, who laughed at the astonished expression on his face.
"What's with the surprised look? I told you before, right? Your illusions don't work on me~"
Between their conversation Thor had desperately tried to get the ship to work, hitting every single one of the many buttons of the control panel. Soon the two brothers started to bicker as the sound of fighting resonated from outside. Luciana stood next to Jane, watching the two men.
"Are they always like that?" the scientist asked.
"You have no idea…"
Not a moment too soon the God of Thunder finally managed to start up the ship and merely one minute later they finally found themselves in the air. They clumsily made their way through the sky, hitting more than a few structures along the way, causing the two women to stumble more than once, as they tried to keep their balance. Suddenly though, Jane sank to the ground, seemingly unconscious.
"Guys!" Luciana called out to the brothers.
"Oh dear, is she dead?" it came from Loki in a nonchalant tone, while Thor exclaimed the scientist's name worriedly.
"I'm okay." she responded weakly, apparently still conscious after all. Luciana kneeled down beside the woman, taking hold of her body in an attempt to shield her from hitting something during the tumultuous flight.
As they kept crashing into several more buildings and statues, Loki made it no secret what he thought about his brother's piloting skills. Commenting on every mistake, the blonde grew more and more irritated until he finally had enough. In one swift motion he took hold of the other man, opened the side door of the spaceship and tossed him outside. Loki's loud scream echoed in their ears as he fell from the sky.
"That's one way to stop him from talking." Luciana commented before getting up from the ground. She made her way towards the still open door and then promptly jumped outside.
The wind hit her face, sending her hair flying in every direction, as she darted towards the water surface. Or more like towards the flying object that sped through the air directly above it. With a grunt she landed on top of it, the impact sending her to her knees momentarily. But she soon recovered, straightening up and tossing her long hair behind her back as if the stunt had been nothing to her. A second later Thor landed on the ship, carrying Jane in his arms. Fandral, who was piloting the whole thing, laughed in a mocking tone.
"I see your time in the dungeons has made you no less graceful, Loki. Maybe you should take some practice lessons with Luciana."
"Very funny." the disgruntled God of Mischief retorted, still looking disheveled from his fall a moment ago. The brunette surmised that his landing hadn't been quite as smooth.
A few jabs later Loki was now stirring the flying boat across the sky, bringing them to one of the secret passages only he knew off. While most of their pursuers had fallen for their trick and kept chasing after the big aircraft, a few smaller ships were still on their toes. Fandral had jumped off along the way, fighting off some of them. However, there were still quite a number behind them, shooting beams at their ship. Skillfully, Loki managed to avoid their attacks, looking quite pleased with himself as he did. However he was stirring them directly in the direction of a cliff. And his brother didn't seem to like the outlook of that very much.
"Loki…"
"If it were easy, everyone would do it."
"Are you mad!?"
"Possibly."
Luciana ducked down as they darted towards a very small looking hole in the wall of rocks. "I swear, if you crash us into that, I'm gonna take that dagger of yours and stab you in the throat!" she screamed, earning a chuckle from him.
"Don't worry, dear. You can trust me."
"That's exactly what worries me!"
A second later the ship barely scraped by the hard stone as it entered the small tunnel. A few meters away a rainbow colored glow started to engulf them and the next moment they were gone.
Take your time
Take my time
Take these chances to turn it around
