From then on Luciana would get summoned by the Grandmaster almost everyday to provide the musical entertainment to his parties, which were… excessive to say the least. Quite frankly, they put the Asgardian banquets to shame and some of the things she had seen happening, the brunette would much rather erase from her mind. Other than that, life on Sakaar wasn't so bad. She had been given her own quarters in one of the higher stories of the tower, being allowed to design them to her own liking. It felt a little strange to have the soldiers, who had captured her a mere few days before, deliver her a couch and the like, but who was she to complain? She also had to admit that the view outside the big glass front was quite nice and she often found herself watching the strange mixture that were Sakaar's inhabitants as they went on about their life. But other than Loki, who seemed to be having the time of his life on this chaotic planet, she couldn't help but worry about their real home and what had happened to Thor. Had he been able to fend off Hela all on his own? Or had the powers of his long lost sister been too much for the God of Thunder to handle? What if she had ki-
No. She refused to allow her mind to go there.
Luciana let out a sigh as she propped herself up from the soft dark-gray couch. There would be no party today so she was free to do whatever she wanted, but she didn't feel like laying around in waste for the whole day. Maybe going for a walk would lift her spirits a bit. Who knew, she might meet someone interesting to chat with.
As she walked along the long hallways she soon found herself heading towards the grand hall where she had literally sung for her life. She could already hear several voices talking eagerly from a distance. Among them were both Loki and The Grandmaster, although they didn't seem to be in conversation with each other.
Ah, Topaz also seems to be there… Guess that means someone's getting melted again today. She thought to herself as she rounded another corner. By now she could determine the exact words that were spoken if she concentrated.
"We're not friends and I don't give a shit about your games. I'm going back to Asgard."
"Ass-gard. Now where have I heard that before?"
Wait- That voice!
Before she knew it, Luciana had already darted off into a run, sprinting towards the grand hall at high speed. If her ears hadn't played any tricks on her then the voice she had heard belonged to none other than-
"Thor!" "Loki!"
"LUCY!?" Both men called in surprise, seeing the brunette emerge from the hallway to the side.
Not wasting any time, she quickly crossed the remaining distance, coming to a stop next to the older prince, followed by Loki who didn't seem quite so eager to see his brother.
"Sssshh!" he tried to shush the blonde who was repeatedly calling the names of the two. "You're alive? What are you doing here?"
"Of course, I'm alive! What do you mean, what am I doing here? I'm stuck to this stupid chair! Where's your chair?"
"I didn't get a chair."
The God of Thunder glanced over to Luciana.
"I didn't get one either. …Although, I did kinda get arrested and almost sentenced to death by meltdown." she shrugged.
"What!?"
"Long story. Not worth the time."
The two brothers continued to quietly bicker, leaving the older one confused on how his companions had apparently arrived on this planet several weeks before him. Which was when The Grandmaster suddenly joined in. "What are you whispering about?"
The three of them yelped in surprise with the two that weren't confined, taking several steps backwards.
"Time works differently in this place. On any other planet I'd be millions of years old, but here on Sakaar I'm…" the ruler trailed off. He cast a wink at both Loki and Luciana, which had both of them shiver uncomfortably, for several reasons. Thor kept on looking between the group of three, appalled by what the ruler seemed to be suggesting.
"In any case, you know this one too? Is he another one of your-"
"I've never met this man in my life."
"He's my brother."
"Adopted."
"Here we go again." Luciana sighed, rolling her eyes. She remained silent for the rest of the short lived conversation, which ended with the God of Thunder being rolled away towards the place the arena fighters were kept at.
"Oh, I can't wait to see this fight." The Grandmaster joyfully exclaimed. "It's been quite a while since we had a contender for my champion. I am excited! You two should join me in my VIP box. We'll have the best view in the whole stadium. It's gonna be amazing, you'll see. I already can't wait for tomorrow!"
During his last words the ruler had already turned away, walking back towards his pult, leaving the two remaining Asgardians.
"Well." Loki began, turning towards the brunette. "That was surprising."
However, he was only met with silence. Luciana had crossed her arms and just blankly stared at him.
"No. Don't start with that. Look, there was no way I could have helped Thor just now. I can't just break him out of this chair. The Grandmaster would have killed us for treason. You and I both. And I don't know about you, but I'm not keen on getting melted."
"Would you say something?"
"Lucy."
"Alright, you're judging me. Ok."
"Haaah… Fine. I'll talk to him." he yielded, frustration dripping from his voice. For a few seconds he waited in place, but seeing as he still didn't get any answer from her, he groaned in annoyance. Nonetheless, he spun around and reluctantly started heading after his brother,
Watching his back, Luciana chuckled. "Heh. Silent treatment. Works every time."
I know you'd take my stubborn heart
"Lucy! Lucy, wait!" the God of Mischief called after the brunette.
"No." she responded curtly, not slowing down, instead quickening her step.
"Look, I've tried, ok? But he didn't want to cooperate. Instead he threw rocks at me!"
"I betted a large wager against you." she copied his voice. "Yeah, doesn't sound like trying to me."
When he had returned to the hall yesterday, Luciana had already disappeared. He had looked everywhere for her but to no avail. Knocking at her door hadn't brought him any success either. While he at first thought she hadn't been inside the room, after returning in the evening and still receiving no answer, he had been convinced that she was simply ignoring him. A hunch that seemed to be proven right when he finally had gotten a hold of her on his way towards the arena. Actually, getting a hold of her weren't the right words, as she had spun on her heel, walking away the moment her eyes had met his. Which had led to the current situation of him frantically chasing after her.
"Honestly, I don't know what I even expected. Of course sending you to talk to your brother would only get this result."
"Oh. Of course. It's all my fault. As usual."
"Don't worry. I think you're both idiots. You're just the only one present I can be mad at currently. 'Cause thanks to you two's thick skulls your brother is about to get squashed by that old creep's final boss!" she almost screamed the last of her words, throwing her arms into the air in exasperation, after which she abruptly stopped in her tracks. She took in a deep breath, messaging her temples in an effort to calm down. This gave Loki the chance to finally catch up to her. However, before he could say anything, the brunette spun around, a sour look on her face.
"By the way, have I told you how horrible that new outfit of yours is? All that yellow…"
"...I beg your pardon?"
"I hate yellow."
He narrowed his eyes, opening his mouth to speak. However, he soon closed it again, not knowing what to say to her abrupt change of topic.
"Also that color doesn't suit you." she added before turning around again, heading towards the archway on the end of the hallway. Still perplexed, Loki remained in his spot for a few more seconds before rushing after her. Soon the two emerged on the balcony of The Grandmaster's private seats. The ruler was already seated on the long yellow couch, gesturing for the two to hurry over as soon as he spotted them. Luciana grimaced at the piece of furniture in front of her.
"Come on, come on! It's gonna start soon. …What's with the long faces?" he asked, albeit sounding only half interested.
"Nothing. Just a little dispute between friends." Loki responded, his game face on. The brunette rolled her eyes, which caused the ruler to raise an eyebrow.
"My, did you in any way offend the lady? It's alright dear, come over here. Sit with The Grandmaster." he cooed, patting the spot next to him.
Although Luciana really didn't want to, she felt petty enough to go along with the man's suggestion for the sole reason of annoying the God of Mischief. And so she plopped down next to the ruler on his silk-covered couch, giving him a sweet smile and a honey-dropping "Thank you!". When The Grandmaster ever so casually leaned towards her, putting his arm over the backrest behind them, she almost regretted her choice. If it wasn't for Loki's annoyed huff behind them. From the corner of her eye she could see him sitting down on the other end of the couch, quite a large distance away from them. He stared ahead, a salty expression on his features. The sight caused the corners of her mouth to go upwards in a smirk and she had trouble preventing the chuckle in the back of her throat from getting out.
Soon it was time for The Grandmaster to announce the final event of the day, which every single soul present in the fighting arena had been waiting for. Luciana watched with a raised eyebrow as a gigantic projection of the ruler appeared in the middle of the round circle that was the stage for the upcoming fight.
"Without further ado, I give to you… …Lord of Thunder!"
The audience started to whistle and boo at the man emerging from the shadows of the tunnel gate. She leaned forward to get a better look at him, but what she saw made her eyes go wide in shock.
"They… cut his hair."
"Huh." it came from Loki, who didn't seem surprised in the slightest. Or just hid it really well. Who could really tell with him? However, noticing she was staring at him weirdly, he turned in her direction. He seemed to be able to guess her train of thought, as he began to vehemently shake his head. "No. Don't even think about it."
"I didn't-"
"Just don't."
"Alright, alright~" she chuckled as she turned back towards the field, just in time for the champion to get announced. Suddenly, green smoke bombs went off in the arena and the crowd went wild in anticipation. And soon she as well found herself sitting on the edge of her seat.
"He's undefeated. He's the reigning. He's the defending. Ladies and gentlemen… I give you… your incredible… Hulk!"
As the big green monster stormed out of the opposite gate the crowd screamed in euphoria. As did Thor who immediately recognized his old friend.
"YEEEESS!"
Irritated by the joyous outburst of the contender, the audience stopped in their cheer. Silence filled the arena. To her right Loki scrambled backwards, his back pressing against the rest of the couch. "I need to get off this planet."
She would have laughed at the sight, but she herself was so perplexed by the sudden turn of events that she could only simply stare towards the center of the stage.
"He's a friend from work!" Thor yelled upwards towards their box, causing The Grandmaster to turn towards his two guests in confusion. Awkwardly, Loki cleared his throat while the brunette seemingly ignored everything around her. Although, she did notice her friend having war flashbacks when his brother prompted the Hulk to look into their direction.
While Thor had apparently thought this would turn into a fun reunion, his old companion seemed to have other plans as he swung his huge metal weapon at the blonde. He attempted to talk it out with the green guy a few times, even trying to calm him down like Natasha had done before, but soon he had to learn the hard way that he would have to engage in a full on fight with his former friend. The Hulk grabbed the man's leg and slammed him from side to side into the floor, on and on again.
It was at that moment Loki jumped to his feet, screaming from the top of his lungs. "Yes! That's how it feels!"
Both The Grandmaster and Luciana turned to stare at him, but while the former was quickly appeased by the god's words, the brunette continued to give him the same condemning look she had the day before.
"Judge me all you want, Lucy, but you can't understand because you didn't experience it." he insisted, albeit he returned to his position on the couch.
"Yeah, because I didn't do anything to deserve it." Shaking her head at him, she turned back to the fight.
From then on both parties didn't pull any punches and went at each other with all their might. For a while the powers were even until the green guy managed to take a hard swing against his opponent, sending the God of Thunder flying. Not wasting a second he jumped on top of him, starting to beat his head repeatedly. It looked painful, to say the least. And while the crowd cheered, both Luciana and Loki twisted their faces at the sight. It seemed like the fight would soon be over.
Or so they thought.
Out of nowhere, a stroke of lightning hit The Hulk, sending him flying this time.
The tides had turned.
Back on his feet, Thor was engulfed by blue sparks of electricity, his eyes glowing. The audience gasped in shock, but it only lasted for a moment. The next instant their cheering changed completely. People that had been screaming the Hulk's name were now yelling "Thunder! Thunder!" from the top of their lungs.
Happily Luciana jumped to her feet, joining in on their cheer. "Thunder! Thunder!" she screamed in unison with the crowd, earning her glares from both of the men at her side. "What? Don't give me those eyes guys. I put my money on Thor, ok?"
"You what!?" Loki snapped at her in exasperation.
Ignoring their yapping, The Grandmaster sighed in annoyance. There was no way he'd risk his champion losing like that. And so he pulled some kind of remote control from his golden robe. With the click of a button, Thor's body on the field began to spasm wildly and a second later he dropped to the floor like a sack of potatoes.
"What-?" perplexed, the young woman turned to the ruler. And as she saw the control in his hand her blood started to boil. "What the hell did you do!?"
"Nothing dear." he responded calmly with a smile. "It was time that this fight ended. It was already going on for too long." With that he got up from his seat, turning to leave.
"What!? But that's-"
"Lucy, don't!"
Before she could scream any insults she was held back by strong arms, preventing her from going after the man. "Let go of me, Loki!" she hissed, struggling against his hold.
"Not when you're about to sentence your own execution!"
"Pfff, he won't execute me! He wouldn't get the ch-"
A loud roar rattled the whole arena, causing the words to become stuck in her throat. Shocked, both their heads snapped back to the field, just in time for them to see the whole weight of the Hulk's body come crashing down from the sky, ready to crush the defenseless body of the God of Thunder.
"No! THOOOR!"
It's like your love keeps on counting down
