Prompt: "Let's kiss and see where it takes us."
Chloe was a little worried about her best friend. Beca had been quiet since she'd broken up with her boyfriend and the redhead wondered if there was more to it than she knew. She'd tried to ask the brunette about it, but her walls had been impenetrable at the time.
It was a week later now, Thursday movie night in the Bella house, and the girls were all in pajamas and lazing in the chairs and sofas in the living room as the movie played on the large TV. It was some mindless comedy and Chloe smiled as she felt Beca lean against her on the loveseat they were sharing. The brunette wasn't generally the snuggling type, so it more than likely meant she was dozing off. With one hand, Chloe tucked their shared blanket around her and affectionately kissed the top of her head.
"Chloe?" Beca suddenly whispered, so close to her ear that the other Bellas didn't hear.
"Yeah," the redhead whispered back.
"You asked me if I was ok. I'm... I'm not ok."
Chloe's hand found hers under the blanket and squeezed gently. "I'm kinda over this movie. Want to go upstairs and talk?"
"I..." Beca hesitated a moment but then nodded. "Yeah, ok."
They said their goodnights to mild protests from their friends and went upstairs to Chloe's room. The redhead had a half-bottle of white wine in her mini fridge, so she poured them each a glass and then settled on the bed. She watched as Beca paced nervously, just waiting for her to open up in her own time.
"I'm here, Becs," she said after a few minutes of her friend's muttering to herself and anxious pacing. "Whatever it is, you can tell me."
Beca stopped and took a big gulp of wine before setting her glass on the nightstand and sitting on the bed, facing Chloe with her legs crossed under her.
"So... um... I broke up with Will because... um..."
"If he hurt you in any way, I'm going to rip his balls off and make him eat them," Chloe stated fiercely.
That brought a smile to the brunette's lips, but she shook her head. "No, nothing like that. It was... me. I... I didn't want to lead him on."
"Why?" Chloe's head was tilted in that adorable way, and it made Beca's smile broaden.
"Well... I've been having some thoughts lately about... women... and I needed some time to figure some stuff out"
"Oh?" Red eyebrows lifted. "What kind of thoughts?"
"The... um..." Beca blushed a little. "The naked kind."
"OOOHHH! I see," Chloe nodded, but then she lifted light blue eyes. "When did that start?"
"I figured out I was queer when I was fifteen, but I've never been with a woman. Seeing how open people are about who they love here at Barden, has kinda got me thinking again. But I feel scared and a bit embarrassed, Chlo, because I don't want to be the twenty-year-old queer girl who's never kissed a girl. You know?"
"Mmmm..." Chloe scooted closer, mirroring Beca's position and essentially going knee to knee with her. "Firstly, there's nothing to be embarrassed about. Some people don't realize what they're feeling until later in life. The question I have is, do you want to date women as well as men? Or women exclusively?"
Dark blue eyes flitted away. "I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if I just find women visually attractive but, if I kissed one, it wouldn't be what I think it would be."
"In what way?" the redhead asked softly.
"Like... what if it doesn't do anything for me? Or I totally choke and embarrass myself first time."
Chloe thought about that for a moment. "I think I can help you with this, Beca, if you'll let me?"
"What do you mean? How?" the brunette asked, eyebrows drawing together anxiously.
Chloe shifted a little and then smiled. "Do you find me attractive, Beca? Be honest.
The brunette blew out a long breath. "Yeah. Um... I think you're gorgeous, Chlo."
"Then let's kiss and see where it takes us."
Beca sucked in a breath of such surprise that she started coughing. "Woah! Sorry... damn."
Chloe laughed and shook her head. "Wow, if that's your reaction to my asking you to kiss me, I think I'm insulted."
The brunette looked infinitely contrite. "Sorry, Chlo. That just blindsided me a little." She reached out and took the older woman's hand. "You'd really do that for me?"
"It's not exactly a hardship since I find you attractive too," the redhead replied with a little grin. "And you know I regret not experimenting more in college." She shrugged a little. "Maybe that makes me queer too."
"But, Chlo, I just don't want things..."
Chloe chuckled softly and simply put a finger against her friend's lips. "You're overthinking, Honey. Just let it happen, ok?"
"How are you so calm about this?" the brunette asked very softly.
"My heart is pounding," Chloe whispered back. "Feel it."
But as Beca leaned forward to press her hand to the redhead's chest, Chloe met her halfway, tangling her hand into dark hair and capturing her mouth. Beca's lips parted in surprise and the older woman took the opportunity to gently flick her tongue out, barely brushing her friend's. But then, the brunette was kissing Chloe back, hand going to her cheek reflexively. The kiss deepened and both women moaned, and... Beca immediately pulled back, hand going to her mouth in shock.
"Um... wow," the redhead said hoarsely. Chloe sat back and cleared her throat, deeply surprised by how much the gentle contact had affected her. She took a deep breath and then blew it out. "I can officially confirm that you didn't freeze or embarrass yourself, Becs."
"That was..." Beca began.
"Awesome," Chloe sighed.
"Yeah," the brunette agreed.
"How do you feel?"
"I think I'm queer, Chlo," the younger woman said seriously but with a twinkle in her eyes.
Chloe nodded seriously. "Do you think we should um... you know... double check?"
"To make sure?"
"I mean... It would be the responsible thing to do... you know... the scientific method... larger sample size..."
"Chloe?"
"Mmm?"
"Shut up and kiss me."
"But, what does this mean..."
"Now who's overthinking?"
Chloe giggled helplessly as she leaned in again. "Right," she murmured against the softest lips she'd ever kissed.
