Chapter 7!
New chapter! I also updated Time, Slice of Light, and The First Steps Upwards so check that out too! I mentioned it in a couple places but I needed to take a break for unexpected health reasons and I'm still taking things slowly though it wasn't anything to serious thankfully. Thank you to everyone who wished me well and for being patient with me! I'll cover the usual extra stuff in the end notes.
User/Reviewer Cyde: The whole body aspect has caused and will continue to cause hell for all the other characters going forward. Izumi's already crazy strong enough with how she uses her ice but tack on pseudo-invincibility then she's cruising.
User/Reviewer LongNightDragon: Shouko definitely views Izumi partially as a rival/goal. Regardless of Izumi being ahead of her, having a similar quirk really helped catch her initial interest.
User/Reviewer Logical-Tadkins: Glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun writing out the exams and bit between All Might and Izumi, both the 'fight' and the dialogue, so I'm glad it was received well. Seeing the scope of her abilities really makes the characters think, "How do I fight this?" cause for the One Piece abilities that I bring over and don't balance they really just make Izumi feel untouchable. I'll eventually be able to get to the anticipated Izumi POV after a certain point and then we'll be able to dissect her thought process on things. Thanks as always for your reviews!
User/Reviewer EndlessChains: Thanks as always for the reviews! I'm looking forward to the Izumi POV and I even think I'll go back through events that have already happened in this fic but instead from Izumi's POV so we get what she was thinking at the time. After a certain point, I feel like the fic will shift heavily into Izumi's POV. If and how she gets answers will be interesting going forward as well as how Shouko follows her own way while also taking note of Izumi's.
To everyone who faved, followed, or reviewed thank you so much!
Disclaimer: I don't own BNHA or the referenced power
Enjoy, more notes at the end!
Chapter 7: Tundra
*All For One POV*
It was a disappointing fact but the growth of both his student as well as the League was far below what he had hoped.
Nothing truly useful had been gained from Stain due to the Hero Killer's swift and quiet capture and all their recruitment was still limited to stragglers pulled off the street by brokers. There were a few impressive individuals with potential but none were garnered through an actual encompassing ideal. Each was either here for their own personal reasons ranging from individual goals or simple circumstance and impulse. While the man was thinking of the current state of their plans and goals, his student addressed him through the hideout monitors.
"Sensei, gimme some more nomus," Tomura demanded without hesitation with a gleam in his eye, "I'm gonna attack them again."
"I will have the Doctor spare a few by his choice," the man compromised and the younger villain seemed to settle for it, "Kurogiri," All For One called out to the mist villain in the background across the connection after Tomura left, "accompany them and save whatever pieces you deem useful to Tomura."
The warper answered in affirmation and the old villain patiently thought from his seat. Tomura still needed his guidance but how was he to learn without a few mistakes? As long as it was short of his own capture and using all of their resources then he would allow him to try a few more times without great success. That being said, the child was still quite immature and it would be a while before he reached where the man had planned for him.
Amongst those that they had managed to loosely bring under their banner, there were a few bonafide and heinous villains as well as a number of upstarts with more power than average. Despite that, Tomura's little group as a whole had no purpose and his impulsive attack had no real meaning or goal behind it but the older villain would still allow the young man to make the attempt. Poking and prodding had its own place in the grand scheme of things and at the very least it would set the later stage. Of course the reality of the situation was that this little planned 'confrontation' wouldn't provide much of anything within the public other than the usual tidbit of noise.
However, he had recently learned of quite the spectacular elemental quirk through the doctor. Ice quirks were not the most unique of ability and there were a number that had ones to great extent but there was someone now with a freezing ability that outshined all others. Even then, the limitations of her quirk were still unknown and the prospect made it all the more interesting. Perhaps it could be seen as a lack of faith but backup plans were made regardless of if they would be implemented or not because that was simply smart planning.
There would be plenty of opportunities going forward to get his hands on the ability but there was always the chance that another party took notice first too. They were not the only influential group around and other organizations, on all sides, could very well have their eyes and designs on the same prey but what mattered was being the first to obtain it.
"Doctor," the aged villain called out, "I believe it would be within our best interest to prepare to move facilities."
"I will make preparations immediately," the man complied, already on the same page as him, and All For One tapped one of his fingers in thought.
Now was the time to observe and see who wanted to make their move first.

*All Might POV*
"I see the principal finally came to a verdict," the blonde noted as he entered the staff room and saw Aizawa scribbling plans.
"He decided on a more proactive approach with you in mind," the black haired man replied, eyes never leaving his papers.
"Me in mind?" the One For All user repeated back with curiosity and the Erasing Hero grunted in affirmation.
"By the time these kids graduate, no even before then, you'll have likely retired," Aizawa reminded him, "even if the spot is filled relatively soon there will still be a spike in crime and villains following that time."
Toshinori didn't like the thought but he couldn't ignore that it was the truth, "it is inevitable and it will be better if the now students go into the time better prepared."
"Exactly," the 1-A teacher agreed, "so with that, the students will be going through an intense quirk training camp with the help of outside heroes."
"It is about time for them to train their quirks to greater limits," the blonde thought aloud as he brought a hand to his chin and leaned back.
"Though I can't say that it's the same case for all of them," Aizawa grumbled and Toshinori immediately caught on to who he was referring to.
"Midoriya eh?" the blonde teacher remarked and Aizawa nodded.
"Midoriya," he repeated matter of factly, "if anything, training her quirk would be a waste of time at this point."
"Have you decided on anything in particular?" the newbie teacher inquired but his fellow teacher just folded his arms with a sigh.
"Mostly a test of her physical capabilities without her quirk and then some minor tests on what else she can accomplish with her quirk," the black haired hero brainstormed but he clearly wasn't satisfied with the limited choices, "other than that there's not much we can do."
"True," Toshinori agreed, remembering her display during the end of terms battle exams, "there's no way to stress her quirk without interfering with the other students," he added on considering how her large scale attacks didn't even make her sweat or breath heavily.
"While I did watch the footage from the test, I had been meaning to ask if you found anything strange about Midoriya while you faced each other," the black haired hero mentioned as he turned to him suddenly, "anything you can think of?"
The blonde leaned back and thought for a moment, "she did pose me some strange questions out of the blue," he remembered but Aizawa shook his head.
"I already managed to hear them from going over the video," he told the blonde teacher who grinned sheepishly, "anything else?"
Toshinori wasn't really sure what the Erasure Hero was aiming for here but the mystery that was Midoriya wasn't one that weighed only on his mind and the blonde suddenly was reminded of something out of the ordinary. Perhaps it was presumptuous, or maybe pretentious, of him to say but it was the only other thing that stood out.
"She wasn't scared, or even unnerved, about fighting me," the hero noted, "Even young Bakugo was initially startled about being placed against me but young Midoriya..." he trailed off as the other teacher listened quietly, "it was like she knew and believed that I couldn't beat her." Toshinori stared up blankly as he pictured her expression from that time, "like she could do anything at all."
It was silent between the two of them for a moment but Aizawa spoke up quietly, "I see."
"I'm not sure if that's any help though," the blonde chuckled but the erasing man's eyes returned to his papers with a new look.
"It's enough."

*Shouko POV*
Thankfully things had been quiet and U.A wasn't involved in anymore incidents between the time of their internships ending and the summer training camp.
It had been decided that they would be using a different than usual location but they would be able to train up their quirks to a greater extent and after a noisy bus ride, the 1-A students filed out for a quick break. Midoriya, the greenette having slept the whole time somehow, yawned as she followed Shouko out and stood a little behind her as the class bunched up for their teacher to introduce the heroes that would be assisting them. The dual quirked girl could hear Midoriya trying to shake off her sleepiness and Shouko shifted her gaze over in time to see the greenette's eyes narrow at the two rescue heroines. The class had now caught on to their teacher's and the two heroines' intentions but Shouko couldn't even be surprised when Midoriya broke into shards of ice beside her.
The greenette had made a clone of ice and hadn't actually left the bus when she realized that this wasn't their destination. The dual quirk user whirled around and saw the greenette actually still on the bus and peering at the scenery lazily so Shouko charged the vehicle and froze herself to it as Pixiebob launched the rest of their class. While the rescue hero was still using her quirk, Shouko melted her ice and made a dash into the bus and headed straight to the back where Midoriya was. No one else had seen her had they?
Shouko took the seat across from her and Midoriya signaled for her to lower herself down on the seat so they couldn't be seen. The pair were now lying back and facing one another across the way and the greenette put a finger up to her lips in a hushing manner. The green haired ice girl then fished her phone out of her clothes and tossed it over to Shouko who caught it and threw it back over once she'd exchanged her contact info. They waited for a short while before Shouko decided to start up the conversation.
'Do you think sensei knows?' the white and red haired girl messaged over and Midoriya began typing over a reply.
'It wouldn't surprise me but he can't do anything about it,' the greenette shot back and Shouko perked an eye and shot her gaze from behind her screen and over to the other ice girl.
'How do you figure?' she asked simply.
'We're already moving,' Midoriya pointed out.
After the message, Shouko noted that they were indeed slowly moving on their way so she didn't press farther on that point.
'I suppose it's fine then,' the dual quirk user accepted and Midoriya smiled a touch in amusement from across the way.
'If he doesn't complain until after we've arrived then he has no reason to complain at all,' the greenette added on and Shouko nodded to herself.
She didn't really know what else to talk about casually but since it was just the two of them then wasn't this a good time to prod a little bit? They had similar enough quirks so Shouko could benefit from some of Midoriya's ideas and practices and at the same time she could try and pull from whatever else the greenette had to say. Truthfully it was also a means to pry into Midoriya's range of abilities from her quirk.
'How do you make such detailed and complicated ice sculptures?' the white and red haired girl asked, hoping that there could be some advice she could use from the green haired girl.
Midoriya didn't seem to find it too troublesome and she took a moment of thought before replying back, 'I would imagine a shape I wanted then treat it like I was filling it with bits of ice,' she explained and Shouko sort of got the idea but she'd have to try it before saying that she really understood it.
'What about when the ice on you disappears?' Shouko went for next since she still didn't understand how Midoriya was doing that.
'I'm both made of ice and capable of manipulating it so taking any existing ice and reshaping it or absorbing it into myself isn't anything hard for me,' the greenette typed back and Shouko thought of how the other ice girl would transform her limbs but they still went back to normal if she wanted.
That ability was one that Shouko, and surely a number of others, had overlooked but hearing about it from Midoriya made her realize how useful it actually was. Alongside that, because Midoriya was able to become and control ice then wouldn't it also be extremely difficult to ever hit her? The greenette actually hadn't been hurt a single time from what the red and white haired girl had seen and that included fighting a Nomu and All Might. Now that she thought about it, how were you even supposed to fight Midoriya if she could reshape and reform herself without getting injured? Shouko was only going to keep delving further into more possibilities and questions but her brief question from back in Hosu came to mind again.
'So theoretically,' the dual quirked girl messaged over, 'you can erase any evidence of ice being used?' she inquired but there was no hesitation in Midoriya's answer.
'Probably,' the greenette answered back, 'but it's a hassle.'
'Because you're too lazy?' the white and red haired girl pressed and Midoriya gave a sheepish expression.
'It sounds bad when you put it that way,' the ice girl reasoned but Shouko didn't want to let her escape by just being ambiguous.
'What if you weren't?' she added on and Midoriya didn't look at her this time before replying.
'Then I wouldn't make that much ice,' the greenette answered back and Shouko knew she'd been outplayed.
The answer was just reasonable enough and Shouko didn't have anything else to go off of since none of the students in 1-A actually knew where Midoriya spent her internship. Sure the white and red haired girl now knew that Midoriya could erase ice if she wanted to but she didn't know or understand the greenette enough to figure out if she was just covering up that she captured the Hero Killer or if she actually had nothing to do with it. She'd make a huge amount of ice but wouldn't clean it up, that was plausible for the greenette and it also wasn't as if other people wouldn't notice if she did. Was there something else she could ask to get more information? Shouko looked up and the answer seemed to be no. She had taken too long and Midoriya had fallen asleep.
One day Shouko would corner her.
-break-
While Shouko was still working extremely hard, her mind did wander here and there.
Aizawa-sensei had seemed a bit exasperated with the two of them when they made themselves known but as Midoriya predicted, he couldn't complain and instead put them straight to work on their training and helping around the lodge since there wasn't anything else planned that they could do. The rest of the class eventually made it over hours later and after dinner and settling in, they woke up early for the next day and went head on into quirk training. They were all working on strengthening their quirks but unsurprisingly there was one student who was instead forced to train without their ability.
Midoriya was mostly just being made to do physical exercises since she was probably one of the last people in the country that needed to work on her quirk. Then again, if Shouko's understanding was correct, it wasn't a simply matter of separating Midoriya's quirk and her physical abilities. She likely could pad her own physical capabilities through manipulation of her ice body so in a sense her quirk was nearly always in use at some level.
Of course, the greenette showed no signs of exertion and if anything she performed as perfect as ever, or at least from what you could expect from her, and by now the rest of the class had caught on to her being the only one not training her quirk. Most of them had accepted that Midoriya hadn't needed to train with her quirk but others seemed curious about not refining it further or how Midoriya was still so capable without it since she only ever used her quirk from what they saw.
The Erasure Hero had told them to remember their origin, why they aimed to be heroes, but just what was Midoriya's goal? She was so much further ahead of anyone else but no one knew just what she was hoping to achieve and the greenette almost appeared disinterested most of the time.
What did she want?
-break-
If anything, Shouko learned that any villain that crossed Midoriya was beyond foolish.
Mandalay had notified them of a sudden villain attack and as Shouko made her way with some other students through the forest she'd met up with Midoriya just after their Sensei allowed them to defend themselves. The greenette was already being followed by two large blocks of ice that she explained continued captured villains and as they were nearing the lodge they had been intercepted by a young man who used blue flames.
The villain wasted no time in launching his quirk at them but the green haired ice girl erected a thick wall of ice that solidly took the fire.
"How long do you think ice will stand up to fire?" the patched up villain wondered, a smugness underlying in his voice but Midoriya was unperturbed.
"Will you beat me by talking?" she questioned back and another wave of heat was sent to engulf them.
The blue flames were eating their way through Midoriya's ice and Shouko was about to provide assistance as the other students looked on in worry but the greenette simply turned her right arm into ice.
"If the ice melts," Midoriya spoke lazily while she raised her frozen hand, perhaps even disappointed in how everyone was reacting, "just make more."
An immediate chill exploded through the forest and everything within sight was shimmering with ice. All of it, over in the blink of an eye. The fire wielding villain had been swallowed up by black mist at the same time and the greenette shook her head.
"My, my," Midoriya commented before addressing the others, "the fire's gone and all the other villains are captured," the greenette informed while exhaling an icy breath, "they aren't dead but it'd be best to pick them up soon."
The greenette continued to transport the villains she had already captured and Shouko marveled at how there was even ice covering the far away mountains and cliffs and she realized that Midoriya had frozen everything within a few miles of herself. The greenette as always wasn't tired out one bit but even by Midoriya's standards wasn't this overkill? How did she even know if everything was over and that her attack hadn't accidentally caught her fellow students?
"How long until I finally catch their attention?" Midoriya muttered quietly to herself as she walked off but Shouko just barely managed to hear her.
Whose attention was the greenette talking about and was this why she made such a display of her quirk? The white and red haired girl pondered the words for a while because she couldn't see someone like Midoriya trying to purposefully standout or appeal to any group. Her questions wouldn't end if she just continued theorizing in her own head but Midoriya always managed to deflect when Shouko prodded so maybe it was time for a different, more direct, approach.
"Midoriya," the white and red haired girl called, jogging up beside her while the greenette peered over, "Let's talk some time later."
"I might not have answers," the ice girl shrugged but Shouko would stick to it.
"I want to know some things," Shouko spoke confidentially, directing right at Midoriya who just returned her straightforward gaze.
"I'll keep that in mind."
Notes and Stuff
I had initially thought to make the encounter longer and way more detailed and then thought, "That's dumb and doesn't make sense with this Izumi." I couldn't justify her not taking care of things immediately but of course some villains didn't join the League or escaped here. Since the Stain speech never happened, almost no one of the important League members have been pulled together save Dabi since Stain's will wasn't really his actual purpose and he was introduced through Giran. They still managed to get villains like Muscular, Moonfish, and Mustard but no one else at the moment and only Dabi was pulled out by Kurogiri. Also no mall scene cause Izumi would have captured Tomura frame one.
Eventually I'll be able to write longer action scenes for Izumi as well as get to the much looked forward to Izumi POV but it'll come after a certain point that I'm already set on which should kick things in a different direction. Seriously, I've made this Izumi and Slice of Light Izumi so incredibly OP and I kinda love it regardless. There were some things I let this Izumi do with her abilities that haven't actually been shown as possible by Aokiji but I've speculated can be done by him. In One Piece, Doflamingo, a paramecia DF eater, was able to make a clone thing of himself with strings so why not do that with Aokiji's ice logia power? Also I don't doubt that Aokiji could absorb ice into himself. It's kinda shown but not explicitly confirmed but I think it works and makes sense.
Reminder, I updated Time, Slice of Light, and The First Steps Upwards as well so give them a look and I think I'll post of few things I'm working on but only have general thoughts on. It's always good to receive feedback for those ideas that's not just in the idea dumping ground.
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed and look forward to more updates from me!
